ITunes Library access via external HDD w/ AirPort Extreme

Ok wizards... I've read a number of posts, but can't seem to pull together the answer to my question and hoping someone's able to push me in the right direction.
I've got a Windows 7 PC with my iTunes library stored on an external HDD due to it's size. My PC is often not at home (i travel for work a lot) and would like to have my library available to my family via my Apple TV when i'm not there. So... I'm contemplating buying an AirPort Extreme and connecting the HDD. I have read that the HDD must be formatted to FAT32 for it to function w/ the AirPort extreme (seemingly an arduous step, but surmountable) but can't seem to find a clear answer to the question:
Will I be able to access my Library via the Apple TV via this method? Obviously any tips / tricks would be greatly appreciated and thanks (in advance) for anyone who can help!

No, at least not directly. You would still need an iTunes "server" to stream the iTunes media to the Apple TV. Typically a iTunes server would be a Mac or PC computer running iTunes.

The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know.
in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.

Using ONE iTunes library on an external HDD with TWO Separate Macs

I have been battling for some time to run one iTunes library on my 160GB Passport between both my 12" iBook G4 and my 15" Macbook Pro.
While I understand the concept of using the SHIFT-key when booting iTunes to Choose the Library it does not appear to work the way I imagine it should.
The Library is managed on the Macbook Pro and merely used on the iBook.
Updates done on the Macbook Pro do not carry across without doing a full consolidation with the Library.
Please Help.

Hello all,
Please excuse my complicated question. I really cannot fathom out how to resolve this technological nightmare. I have a 50gb Itunes Library stored on an External HDD in MAC format (HFS+) I want to share this library with the Windows 7 Laptop, i have enable home sharing on both computers. Sadly the Windows laptop cannot see the itunes library.
I have a Belkin N750 wireless router which has a USB port and LAN connections on the back. I bought this on the understanding i could plug my HDD into the router and it could then be accessed by both Mac and P.C. Annoyingly the HDD cannot be seen by either laptop! I am assuming this is because of the file format??
Does anyone know of any way i can share my HDD to both Mac and P.C so the Itunes library can be shared and playlists can be made by each user?

Any ideas are welcome as it would stop me throwing the whole lot into the garden and going back to Vinyl and tape decks!

P.S: I also have access to my music library via iCloud, i have logged into iCloud on the windows laptop and the Itunes library can be seen but cannot be edited (Playlists added or deleted)
P.P.S: HDD has just died so i have the oppurtunity to buy a new HDD so can format it before adding Itunes Library back to the drive. (Just had to pay to get data back off dead HDD which will come back on DVD's so the assumption is to copy data onto new drive)

The iTunes library is installed and added to my Mac with no issues. I just want to share the whole library with a Windows laptop.
As mentioned the 'Enable home sharing' does not seem to work. I am assuming it is the file format of the HDD which means the home sharing cannot be done on a Mac?

ITunes on an external HDD and Airport Extreme BS

Ok, sorry to be boring, but I can't get this to work as I think it should.
I want to have a central iTunes library based on the USB-connected 1TB HDD, so that I can train all my Macs to reach for the files from the same place. So that I can access the same tunes and movies from my "MBP", "Intelimac" and "Intelimac2". I have copied the iTunes library from Intelimac 2 over onto the HDD, and in iTunes preferences told it to look for the files on my Airport-connected HDD - and it does. Mostly. I have 600 movie files on that HDD, but when I start up iTunes on the Intelimac and the MBP, there are only the 56 or so original movie files showing up in the Movies list. When I click on a random movie in that list, and ctrl click it, then "Show In Finder", it does indeed point to the correct folder way over there on the External HDD. So why doesn't the list in iTunes show ALL 600 movies available in that same folder?
Similarly, there are discrepancies between what shows up in iTunes lists, and what it SHOULD be showing, baring in mind there are hundreds of other media files available to be displayed and therefore played. It's as though iTunes is ignoring many of the tracks/playlists/movies in the same folder that it is indeed recognising and offering up to play...
What am I doing wrong?

Just had the same problem. I found the answer in other message threads. A solution would be to click on the option button immediately when you launch iTunes. A message box will pop up instructing you to select a library. This should allow you to choose the music library from the external drive. See the url below.

ITunes Library: Keep 2 external HDDs in sync with same music files

I am trying to run iTunes with 2 external HDDs, keeping in sync with each other. One large one for my desktop and a second portable one to take away from home when I need to travel. What is the best way to do this?
What I have done so far is changing the location of my media library via iTunes advanced preferences to the other ext HDD and then consolidating my library, but I noticed that it tries to re-copy the entire library or at least part of it so I end up with music files like:
Back in Black.mp3
Back in Black 1.mp3
I'm sure this has been thought of before and an obvious solution should be available, but I've never been able to find one, so I'd be really glad if someone could tell me how to do this!

How do i share a single itunes library from an external hdd

I recently switched from a PC laptop to a MacBook Pro with latest Mac OS X 10.8.2. Instead of moving over 130GB of music from my old laptop, I thought it better/easier to create/maintain a single music source for iTunes to sync with for all my devices...(iPad, iPhone and MBP)...and not have all that space taken up on my MBP.
I transfered my music from the old laptop to a Seagate external hard drive which is connected and available to my home wi-fi via a USB connection to my wireless router (WNDR4500).
I attempted to import music into my MBP iTunes from the mounted share of that Seagate, but only playlists seemed to transfer...nothing in the music library.
What am I doing wrong?

In order to provide useful feedback we need to know exactly how you have things set up currently. If it is any different from the standard iTunes structure where everything is kept in a single iTunes folder this can be critical in how you move items and not have things break.
Look at the links below. They tell you what files and folders go to make up a complete iTunes library and where iTunes expects them to be. If you have things differently then we need to know precisely where they are. If you have things set up differently and move them by hand back together to where a normal library would be that too can break iTunes.

HT1711 I lost all of my iTunes library on my external HDD. All of my music is up on the cloud, how do I get it to my new external HDD?

My partner and I travel a lot in our motor home and don't always have access to the cloud, otherwise I wouldn't really care. However, we have over 200 movies purchased, as well as television shows that we watch while on the road. A note: I do have all of my music on my iPod Classic, is there a way to transfer it from her to my external HDD?
I don't know if it was coincidence, but it all happened when I did the iTunes Match...

External HDD with Airport Extreme gets stuck

Hi guys,
I hope you can help me. I bought an Airport Extreme last december.
The problem is that I can enter my External HDD via Windows 7. After reading and writing at the HDD, Windows Explorer get stuck, and it will say it couldn't find the path Z:\ ..... My Airport Extreme also gets stuck. I lose my signal (still connected to Airport, but not to internet) and I have to unplug it. After it the Airport will start up again and everything works.
I tried several things but it didn't work:
- Hard reset
- Different hard disk (with external power supply)
- Today I went to the Apple Store in Haarlem, and I got a new Airport, but this one has the same problem!
I formatted the hard disk to FAT32.
Please help me!

My problem is slightly different. The hole AirPort is stuck, it won't do anything. Wifi stays connected, but there's no Internet connection. Also my iPad and iPhone don't have internet connection anymore.
The problem arise also when I'm just viewing pictures at the external hard disk, or just browsing through folders. The only way to get all working again is to unplug the AirPort from electricity.
It's kind a weird that Apple uses this feature as unique selling point, but unfortunately it doesn't work for PC!

Backing up iTunes library on USD HD connected to Airport Extreme

I am thinking about moving my iTunes library from my iMac to a USB hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme so that I can access it from my PowerBook without having to have the iMac powered on.
Two questions:
1. If I do this, can I configure Time Machine on my iMac to back up the library that is now located on the shared USB drive?
2. If I share my library in this way, will I be able to add content from both the iMac and the PowerBook?

Unable to connect Seagate External HDDs to Airport Extreme

Worked the first time I connected my 2 Seagate drives (via the Belkin USB hub from the Apple Store). Now claims that the "disk needs repair" when in truth there is nothing wrong with either of them, and they work perfectly connecting directly to any Mac or PC. Any ideas/suggestions?

have you partitioned the hard drives? AEBS cannot
recognize partitioned hard drives attached to its USB
port. Must be single drive.
My experience is that multiple partitions are not a problem. I'm having no trouble with two partitions on an old Maxtor OneTouch. Each partion shows up.

You should be able to log into your account via the Store > Sign In menu option - if the drop-down menus aren't showing the control-B should them to show.
Your balance should be accessible wherever you are signed into the account. My account's balance shows at the top left of the store's page on my computer's iTunes, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option (that option will only show after you've signed in).
