ITunes Library cannot find my music nor movie.

I have spend long nights now, but cannot figure out what is happening:
I have a brand new iMAC PC and am switching from Windows to MAC so everything is new. Actually I though I could connect my iPod just like that, but no...after different kind of problems I managed to move all music files to iTunes Music (incl folders with PODCASTs and MOVIES), using an external HHD, so far so good. But there is no way I can import the music and movie to the library. Podcasts rolled over without any problems and now I have only some fotos & podcast on my iTouch!
Importing from a CD works fine! And when I click on Music & movies under the library it is filled with 'old' files which cannot be found and I am also unable to delete these.
Another thing which I find strange, when looking up a song in FINDER and clicking on it, it opens and plays, but not in iTunes.
Can anyone help???Much appreciated, because I so dissapointed....THX

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't normally lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Would you mind telling me which anti-virus package you use? It may be that it is disturbing iTunes when it tries to write out the fresh database, as it does after almost any activity with your library. I'm noticing more of this type of problem than usual and trying to see if there is any pattern. It may help to prevent a repeat of the problem if you look at the advanced options for your AV package and see if you can find a way to exclude the main iTunes library folder (and subfolders if possible) from any real-time scanning process.

  • Itunes Library cannot find almost a 1/3 of my music

My itunes library cannot find 1/3 of my music because i cleaned up 'my music" on the start menu on the computer. I thought since I had all the music on the itunes library why do i need a duplicate list of the same songs on "my music " on the start menu of the pc, since the two librarys doubbled the space on the computer. I cleaned up the start menu 'my music" and now itunes shows a "!" on about 1/3 of my library. and cannot play those songs. Can any one answer why ? Thanks.

It sounds as though you deleted the actual music files from your PC. The "My Music" choice on your start menu links to the actual directory where your music is stored (they are not duplicates or shortcuts). When you deleted the files from "My Music", you deleted the files your iTunes library was pointing to.
You might be able to recover the music by checking your recycle bin. If you find the files there, highlight them all, right click, then choose to restore the files.

  • I need to uninstall and reinstall itunes but cannot find my music anywhere so will i lose what is on my ipod when i re connect it later

Since having a virus on my laptop I am unable to access my itunes.  It is asking that I uninstall and reinstall.  I am worried that as I cannot find my music already in the itunes library that if i do this reinstalling then connect my ipod that I will loose all the music on there already.  I am not necessarily worried about it not being in the library.  ANy ideas.

    Hello Jenney Watts,
It sounds like you are wanting to re install iTunes but want to be sure of the location of your files before you do so. The following article will walk you through checking where the library is being stored:
Where are my iTunes files located?

I would also recommend using the following article to consolidate your media to the iTunes library to keep them all in the same place.

Then you can use this article to uninstall and then re install iTunes:

  • ITunes library cannot find 'original file'

  • Copied iTunes Library, cannot find files

I recently formatted my hard drive, and before doing so I consolidated my library and copied the whole iTunes folder to an external hard drive. Now I have copied the files back to their place, and the library comes up fine but none of the files can be found
I've checked that the media folder is correct. If I locate the file manually it works fine.
I moved one song to my desktop, added it new to the library, and did Consolidate Library. It went to the exact place where it was before the move, with the exact same name.
Does anyone know how to get it to recognize where the other songs are without manually locating all of them?

Did you use the "Copy Folder" command in iTunes?

  • I have my new music which i downloaded in my itunes library but when i go to move it to my iphone music folder it wont move and a red circle appears?

i have my new music which i downloaded in my itunes library but when i go to move it to my iphone music folder it wont move and a red circle appears? i have tried all different copy and paste but it still doesnt work

Drag and drop only works if "Manually manage music" is selected on the summary tab in iTunes.
Instead, use the Music tab and playlists to manage what content is on the device as described in the User's Guide.

Hi, I`d like to connect my Ipad wirelessly to a stereo to listen to my music from the iTunes library on streaming, but also to movies online, games, Goear…) and so on.  I guess I can do that using an Airport express connected to the stereo and via airplay to my Ipad. My question is, can I listen to all the audio that come out from the ipad (movies online, games, Goear…) or only to the music from iTunes library? I`d appreciate any help. Alex.

On the iPad you can stream videos, photos, or music from the Video, Photos, Music, and YouTube apps to an Apple TV OR just stream music to an AirPort Express Base Station.

  • I used Migration Assistant to transfer my iTunes from pc to mac.  Everything seemed to work fine and it took 15 hours and said that it was successful, but I cannot find my music on my mac?

    Any advice would be apprecitated.
    Thanks

System Preferences/Users & Groups shows you the various user accounts you have.
Look at your hard drive in the Finder sidebar. You should see Applications, Library, System, and Users. If you look in Users you will see a Shared folder. From the user Migration Assistant created, find the iTunes folder and drag it to Shared. Log out and log in using your normal user account, go to the same place and copy it to Music in your normal user account. Another option is to leave it in shared so any user can access it. You will have to tell iTunes where to find the music by going to iTunes/Preferences/Advanced.
