ITunes Medium Error note When Attempting to Burn Cds.

Ive had no trouble with iTunes till now.
I keep getting an error message saying the burn could not be completed because of medium write error.
is this just my cds. even tho ive tried several types? or something worse like my drive is dead?
it still rips and plays cds. It just wont burn them onto blanks....

...in my experience, anytime it says media or medium, they are referring to the blanks or the disk drive itself; so, yeah, I'd say that it might be your blanks or your burner's inability to use those specific blanks properly... imho, that is...

  • Please help: strange error message when trying to burn cds

I have been trying to burn an itunes playlist onto cds and I have never had trouble doing this before, but just this afternoon I have started getting an error message and the disc will automatically eject itself immediately following the initializing stage.
The error message I receive is this: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power for this media."
What does this mean? What can I do to fix the problem? Thank you in advance!!
(Additional information in case this is helpful: The discs are Maxwell CD-R audio cds with 700mb/80min capacity, and my itunes is version 7.3.1. The playlist is long -- spanning multiple cd lengths -- but I have never encountered a problem with that before, so I don't think that is causing the error.)

Same here.Although i've had this problem since febuary of this year.
Just upgraded to 7.4 and it still does'nt work. Its not an uncommon problem, there has been hundreds of threads about this and thousands of users with the same problem, apple don't seem to want to recognise or solve the problem.Disgraceful behaviour on their part.
I've simply had enough now so i've contacted these...
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tvand_radio/watchdog/contactindex.shtml
...people.Hopefully they can make apple sit up and take notice of this problem, although i have my doubts.I suggest you do the same if you to have had enough of apple's simply dreadful customer service and faulty software.
Sorry i could'nt be of any help to you but i can assure you that are not alone in this.

  • Error Code when trying to burn cds

    Hi
i have tried to burn cds using my iMac but for the last while i have been getting the same error , "burning of the disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed. Error code 0x80020022"
this error appears if i try to burn music cds or data cds ( documents/photos etc. ) . i searched through all the forums but i can't find a solution. i have tried using disk utility to repair permissions etc. but it says there all fine. i have tried changing cd brands but it doesn't make a difference. i can't use the hardware test on my installation cd because it just spins in the cd and then spits the cd out and just starts as normal yet when i put in a cd it reads it and asks if i want to import it into iTunes. i downloaded Onyx and let it do its thing but that didn't fix it. i also went looking but i can't find a firmware update for the cd drive on my mac. the cd drive in my mac is a "MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8124" . I was wondering if this was a common problem and how do i go about fixing it. one person told me that the cd burner would probably need to be replaced in order to fix this problem is that correct and is that costly . i'm at a loss to what else i can try so i would be very thankful for any help or information you could give to help me get this back working again. Thanks a million
    Paul

    Hi there,
I am writing here as an "end-user" and not as a professional computer advisor, and because I've had some problems alike with my older iMac. I've written about my case in here:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1832474&tstart=0
I would also like to know if there are some procedures to do in OS X (I have 10.3.9) regularly to make sure that the internal cd-rw-drive burns without "having it's own opinion" and giving all kind's of stuped error-signals or even throwing-out the cd-rw's when ordered to burn them.
I haven't figured out if there is a straight way to do this in OS X with the original Apple-applications. However, I've found a 3rd party freeware application called Burn X Free (1.5 (v1.5)) which at the moment seems to work and do the job of burning cd-rw's. Earlier I was able to burn them in Finder, after going from OS X 10.2.8 to 10.3.9 I begun to have burnig-problems, but might be that the origin of the problems is not the X 10.3.9. Anyway, with my user short experience of Burn X Free (1.5 (v1.5))-application I can recommend it if nothing else after all maintenance procedures works...
However, I would like to know how you solved the problem after all.

  • Receiving "Fatal Error" message when attempting to burn BluRay

I have completed a BluRay project and am trying to burn to a BluRay.  The process goes fine until it starts the burn process.  The project is about 19g and I am ttrying to burn to a 25g bluray BD-R.  It takes about 6 hours to go through the process.  When the progress meter shows 100%, it goes into the burn process and after only a few minutes, I receive a "Fatal Error" message and that's it, no further messages and nothing written to the bluray.  I end up clicking on the "cancel" button which takes me back to the project.
Running Elements 7.0 on Windows 7 with plenty of horsepower.  Can give specifics if someone thinks that could be the problem.  Is there a way to burn the HD project to the computer and then use other software to burn to my Bluray internal burner??

    Hi All,
I have a similar error with the config details below.
The work-around that I found was to end all processes that have nothing to do with PrE - especially McAfee and GoogleDeskTop stuff (sorry if I am getting close to the line citing names - but it does seem to be related) and to put PrE in high priority using the Windows Task Manager / Processes facility.
This solution does work even with chapters although I have not yet been able to burn a BD with menus yet - this may be due to the version 4.0 of PrE that I am using.
My issue was all the more frustrating in that my project lasting approx 90mins in realtime was taking approx 25hrs (> 1 day) to render to AVCHD, And after rendering, the Fatal Error msg appeared but PrE was locked and the only way to get out was to end process PrE and restart Windows - no intermediary AVCHD file was saved so I had repeated this process several times over a week before finding this solution after reading this website,
What a shame; I had bought a new powerful laptop with PrE 4.0 and a BD writer pre-installed and yet it seems to hard to get a basic BD !!
In case it can be of interest, I compared burning BDs using AVCHD and MPEG-2 (1920X1020) and, on my 40"LCD I cannot really see any difference in quality. As the MPEG-2 renders and burns in approx 1/10th time of AVCHD, I think that I'll be sticking to this compression.
Here are the details of the system:
    Intel Pentium CoreDuo 2.26GHz
    Windows Vista
    4Gb DDR2
500Gb internal drive with over 50% free
Source HDV footage stored on external 320Gb HDD via USB2.
    PrE4.0
    I hope that this helps.

  • Unknown error 4251 when attempting to burn a CD

Since I've upgraded to itunes 6, I can't burn a CD. Any attempt results in an unknown error 4251. My firmware's up to date; nothing else has changed. So, how do I burn a CD now?!

    hi Ilkka!
no particularly focussed advice I'm afraid. but there's still a few other things apart from the CD-drive firmware mentioned here that are worth checking up on:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93360
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93286
... and these resources might be helpful:

toonz, "Where to find firmware for your CD/DVD drive", 05:55pm Apr 15, 2005 CDT
... and if no joy with those, head here to check for other documentation and to submit your CD diagnostics to Apple:

... and periodically refresh your thread here with another post, so passers-by will be able to update you on any developments.

  • ITunes crashes / errors out when attempting to get Outlook 2003 contacts

    OS: XP Pro SP2
    APPS: Office Pro 2003 SP2, iTunes v.6.0.4.2
    Hardware: iPod Nano 2GB
Problem: When I sync my ipod nano, iTunes opens, the music syncs and then I get an error:
“iTunes cannot copy contacts to the iPod ‘my name’”
Probable Cause: I installed from MSN Premium something called “Outlook Connector” I was going to use to synch my MSN Hotmail & my Outlook contacts. I believe it was after this install when I began having trouble with synching my contacts between my iPod Nano and Outlook 2003 SP2 for windows.
    Solutions I have tried:
    - Repaired Outlook using “Detect & Repair” as well as scanpst.exe
    - Cleaned the registry
    - Restored an older backup PST Outlook file
    - Talked with MSN support who referred my to iTunes support
    - Purchased Apple Care program (or something)
    - Update iPod (wasn’t needed)
    - Uninstalled/Reinstalled iTunes
    - Scoured google, these forums, newsbin, ms kb, etc…
    - The last thing I will do is to restore my whole hard drive to an time when my ipod did synch fine
Please help if you can. I really think this has to do with that MSN Outlook Connector, but I have removed all known traces of it. I wanted to make sure I to get an answer and posted this in both the nano as well as itunes for Windows forums, my apologies if that’s taboo.
Thank you in advance for any assistance, even if someone can point me to more resources.
    Paul

    I fixed this, YES!
For those who it may help, I went into:
    Outlook 2003 > Tools > Address Book
From there I saw theat Outlook Connector (or soemething) created a new address book for my MSN/Hotmail and made that address book the default one.
I simly made my old one the default and ipod now synchs with the Outlook contacts.

  • Error message when attempting to burn idvd project

please help. I have recently created several movies from vhs with no problems in idvd, the latest one is giving me problems though.
i created the movie in imovie and shared it with idvd (no problems) used the same exact theme as the other two movies (made sure there were no error messages in any of the menus) and clicked burn. Everything appears to encode properly, but i get an error message in the burn stage and need to force quit to exit idvd. after three attempts i now also get a "multiplexor" error.
I tried to make a burn disc with a small file to see if the superdrive is functioning properly and it seemed to take forever (never happened before)
Any ideas? I'm trying to get this done before Christmas.

alright, i added new ram, so i am running 2 gigs now, tried again...failed. i get all the way to burn and a popup comes up saying burning finished errors found during the burning process, i click ok and the burning wheel is still turning and i need to force quit to get out of idvd. i might go crazy, so any help is appreciated.

  • Itunes authorization error when attempting to burn idvd file

The software updates should take care of it, but I got this help from the ilife team at Apple. If you encounter "your computer is not authorized to play this song" error messages when trying to burn an idvd movie, it may be because the file contains music you downloaded from itunes. This fixed everything: Go to the apple.com and go to the apple store. Go to "Account." Go to "Change 1-click settings." Make sure 1-click setting is turned on. Then go to the itunes store though the itunes page, and authorize 1-click ordering and ensure that all of your account information is correct in the itunes store.
That fixed all of my issues.
    Good luck!

  • When attempting to burn a 1.2GB video using Magic DVD I get Burning Prep error. Not enough free disk space...... I have tried all I know to no avail. This have just started!!

When attempting to burn a 1.2 GB video using iDVD I get a "Burning Preparation Error.. Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaing assetts" This has only justed started to happen.  I have used this programme many times before in the past. Can any one help as I have tried all I know?

Yes, 44GB is sufficient. I don't think space is the problem.  I don't know about iMovie but iDVD can only use the boot drive for its scratch disk.
You might be getting that error due to some damage file in the project.
Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
Also run Disk Utility and verify the disk.  If errors are indicated you will need to boot iknto your system install disk and repair the disk with Disk Utility (see the Utilities menu in the first window after the language selection window).
