ITunes no longer starts automatically whwn I connect my devices
Hi there,
This is a small problem, but an annoying one. Before updating to iTunes 10.5 (and my devices to iOS5), iTunes used to start up when I connected any one of my apple devices (iPod Classic/iPod nano/iPad/2 x iPhones) and start syncing automatically. Now I have to start iTunes manually, and although my iPhone/iPod/iWhatever is listed under 'Devices' in the sidebar on the left, I have to click the sync button myself.
I know, I know – small potatoes compared with the problems of others, but a little bit annoying. I used to love it when I connected my device and iTunes did exactly what I wanted without me doing anything.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Michael
Thanks for the link to the tip!
In that link Nick Holmes said that the iTunesHelper app was to be fount in the contents of the iTunes app, in the folder Contents>Resouces. As it turns out it was in 'Contents>MacOS'
I wonder if there was a change in the location of the iTunesHelper when it switched from iTunes 10.4.x to 10.5, because although iTunesHelper was in my Login items, it wasn't working.
To cut a long story short, I removed iTunesHelper from my loginitems, re-added it using the instruction in your link and rebooted - hey presto, it worked!!!
So thanks to you, and well done for crediting Nick Holmes. I'll send some positive vibes his way...

ITunes no longer starting automatically with iPhone
I have an iPhone 4S. Running iTunes 11.0.4.4 on Windows 7.
iTunes used to start automatically when I plugged in my phone as it was set to do.
have not changed the settings, and that box is still checked but now iTunes no longer starts automatically.
When I manually start iTunes, it detects my phone as normal.
When I first plug in the phone, the PC detects it and gives me the Windows dialog box asking what I want to do with the device.
I've unchecked the box, saved that, and rechecked with no changes.Hello mysticsinger,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Itunes no longer opening automatically when iphone connected
iTunes sees the iphone if I launch iTunesbut it no longer opens automatically.
could it be a preferences file problem?Hmm if click the Apple >> system preferences >> users and groups >> login items, do you have itunes helper listed?
You can also try this:
Open in Image Capture in /Applications with your iphone connected. In the lower left, you'll see "connecting this iphone opens with" (if you don't see it, click the triangle/box icon to show it). Click the menu >> select "Other" and navigate to itunes and choose that. Quit Image Capture.

ITunes does not start automatically when iPod is connected
iTunes used to start automatically when I connected iTunes. It no longer does. Can I fix that?
DaveConnect your iPod and open iTunes. Towards the bottom of the iPod screen, there are four check boxes. The top one says "Open iTunes when iPod is connected." Check that box and click apply. If it is checked, uncheck it and click apply, eject and reconnect your iPod, then recheck it and click apply.

ITunes no longer opens automatically
iTunes no longer opens automatically when I connect any of my devices (iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPod Nano 5th Gen) to my 64-Bit Windows 7 PC.
In each case the option to open iTunes when the device is connected has been checked in the iTunes Device Summary. However, I iTunes will only open manually. Admittedly, this is not a big deal, but it makes me wonder why iTunes has stopped responding properly.First, try reinstalling the latest version of iTunes. If that doesn't work, try restarting AMDS:

Since installing 10.5, Itunes will no longer open automatically when I connect my Iphone or insert a CD. Nor will it, when I insert a CD, recognize the CD unless I close Itunes and open it again. Any ideas?
Purchase the Snow Leopard install DVD from Apple to install 10.6

Why does iTunes no longer open automatically when iPad is connected?
Why does iTunes no longer open automatically when iPad is connected? and iPhone as well? Setting to "auto open" is selected, but iTunes will not open automatically. Problem seems to have begun with upgrade to Lion.
Good luck getting an answer...I posted the same question a day ago. I can only assume it's a glitch in iTunes 10.5.

Itunes does not start automatically when I plug in my iPhone. When I start it manually, it never recognizes the phone although it does ask if I want to download pictures etc. Many albums have no art work that use to. iTunes completely unresponsive to the mouse.
