ITunes Producer insisting I need an ISBN

I'm trying to deliver a new book and I can't get past an error in iTunes Producer saying "Missing required field: ISBN"
It's my understanding that ISBNs aren't required anymore. It is successfully assigning the book a Vendor ID.
I've tried deleting iTunes Producer and all it's preferences and reinstalling with the same result. Any ideas?

Might be time to contact Apple...

  • ITunes Producer does not accept my ISBN

I am ready to submit my book and got my ISBN number today.
Everythink is already filled out in iTunes Producer, so i only wanted to enter my 13 digit ISBN number and submit.
The problem now is, that iTunes Producer tells me that my ISBN is not a valid ISBN number???
I bought this at the legal austrian ISBN authority, the number is: 978-3-200-03398-6
I checked the number online on several sites, every site says the numer is ok.
What is the problem with my number, i want to submit my book now.
    Thank you,
    Peter

    Thanks for your answer Tom.
I found out in the meantime, that i had to remove the "-" from the ISBN number, so that it only was numbers.
    Then it worked.
    Thank you.

  • Updated iTunes wrongly insists shuffle needs re-formatting

Hi, I've done a quick search through the forums to try and find if this has been reported before.
My iPod shuffle (2nd gen) has stopped working since I updated iTunes. When plugged in, it gives an error message. It says it needs to be re-formatted and offers to restore it to factory settings. I have one home installation of iTunes, and one at work. My home one has the majority of my music collection, and I haven't updated this iTunes to the latest version. On this iTunes version, the shuffle behaves normally.
I figured that the newer iTunes version wasn't backwards compatible, so I reformatted my iTunes with the newer version. No change. It still says that the shuffle is not formatted properly, even after a reformat done by itself. I then downloaded the iPod reset utility and reset my shuffle with that. It was still unrecognised by iTunes. I tried a complete reinstall of iTunes on my work computer, and then repeated the reformat and the reset again, which made no difference.
This can only be a compatibility problem with the last two released versions of iTunes. Something has changed such that it can no longer format or use my ipod properly. Using the same equipment (dock, iPod) with the older version at home shows there is no technical impediment to my iPod working. Changing USB didn't have any effect. Other USB ports are not in use.
I have tried what guides are available in the support forum such as the 5 "r"'s, but I am now at a loss. Ipod software version is 1.0.4. iTunes is 8.0.1.11 at work (faulty) and still I think iTunes 7 at home (need to check later). I don't want to have to track down and install an old iTunes version, simply because your updates have made my hardware obsolete.
Is this a known issue, and is there any other solution available?

Thanks for the response. I was aware that my shuffle would only sync with a single computer. It is a nuisance, but I could live with it. What the problem seems to be is that now the shuffle will not sync with my work computer at all. I can charge the shuffle fine, but I cannot sync any podcasts or CDs in my work computers library to this shuffle, irrespective of whether it's being used with the home library or not.
Perhaps, because of my habit of occassionally reformatting and syncing to a new library, it has in some way shortened the lifespan of the shuffle? But then why is it only a problem with the new iTunes versions?
I'd really like to get to the bottom of this.

  • ITunes producer will not upload its own files?

I have tried to publish through the publish process from within IBooks as well as outside of it through Itunes producer. Both stop me at the final upload process. The file that Itunes producer made of my ibook, early in the publish process, is grayed out as well as my ibooks file. I get no message of error, just gray out files that cannot be uploaded.
Appreciate any help I can get!  I just downloaded the updated Itunes producer I'm running OS X 10.9.
    Thanks!

Rather than remark on your issues, because you mention files etc but not if they are iba .ibooks or .itmps,  perhaps some process tips may help.
When the book is finished, save it and export it ... if you are using one, same applies to your sample/ preview.
I find its better to have all the screen shots, cover page image and the the "mybook".ibooks exported book files on one folder
You can either use "Publish" in iBooksAuthor or open iTunesProducer to start tbe delivery process.
Some have made the mistake of trying to deliver the .iba file..which is wrong, it has to be the .ibooks file.
You say your are stopped at the final upload process... what error message?
Did you fill in everything required in iTunes Producer. You need to fill in all form fields, author, publisher, categories etc.
Your screenshots and cover need to comply with the assets guide. ie either, 1024 x 768 or 2048 x 1536 and the cover image needs to be 1400 on the width.
You need a preview/ sample book or elect to state a chapter of at least 15 pages or allow the delivery process to select a preview.
You should also stay with the same .itmps  ( iTunes Producer) file. using two with the same info will cause you problems.

  • Need help need help exporting epub to iTunes Producer

  • Need a copy of iTunes Producer 2.5.1

    Help !!!!
I can no longer find iTunes Producer 2.5.1 anywhere.  This version supported Mac OS X 10.5.8, and I just went out and bought a Macintosh eMac G4 which was on the list of supported hardware for this version of iTunes Producer 2.5.1.   Lo and behold, I just received my G4, and now iTunes Producer 2.6 is only available, and it doesn't support the eMac G4.   Where can I get a copy of iTunesProducer 2.5.1 so that I can run it on this eMac G4 machine ????

Yes, I was able to resolve this by myself.  First, if you have an Intel-based Mac, running OSX 10.6 or higher, you can download iTunesProducer 2.6 (the latest and greatest), and it should work.
This is how I was able to obtain V2.5.1 of iTunesProducer, which just went out of circulation a week ago:
    - I use FireFox Browser
    - Login to iTunes Connect
    - Go to "Deliver Your Content" page
    - Hover Mouse over iTunesProducer 2.6 link
    - Right-mouse click and select "Copy Link Location"
    - Open Up New Tab in Firefox
    - In this new tab, Paste (i.e., CTRL-V) the link into your URL text area
    - Replace the part of the link that has "2.6" with "2.5.1"
    - Press Enter to go to this newly edited link
    - You will be prompted to Download the 2.5.1 version of iTunesProducer.....voila !
By the way, I installed V.2.5.1 on my eMac G4 that is running OS X V10.5.8.  It installed and ran, and I was
able to upload my book without any issues.   Now I'm just waiting for it to get sanctioned in the iBookStore.
    I hope this helps.

  • ITunes Producer - can't upload iba file

    Hi there,
I've created a book bundle with all my details via iTunes Producer, and the last step is uploading the publication and cover art. Cover art file uploaded fine into iTunes Producer, but the IBA files are all greyed out. It will not allow me to upload any IBA files whatever.
The below screenshot shows my iTunes Producer window, which won't let me click on the iBA file in the window directly below it. All greyed out. The window to the right is my actual IBA file that I want to upload. I don't know if it matters that the iTunes Producer file name is the name of the cover art file and not my IBA file (designforwriters-lm).
I set up my book in iTunes Producer separately from the PUBLISH button at the top of iBooks Author, because every time I tried to PUBLISH from there, the iTunes Producer box to bundle all my book details would not allow me to type in any information -- ISBN, publication date, next button -- I just got the bump sound from my computer that something was wrong and I could not do anything.
    Thanks for your help.

    1. Yes... you need to export your book when finished, do they same with your preview ( a separate book with a minimum of 15 pages.) unless you are using a chapter of the book or allowing iTunesProducer to create your preview.  Then using  Publish should work out OK, because during the delivery process you need to select both the iBooks file of your book ( and preview if its a mini bbok you intended).   Mant people  try to upload their working  file ..which is xxxxxx.iba. The .iba file opens your book in iBooks Author  and is NOT  used in the iBooks store.
    2. Preview:  you do not have to minimise the the file size by removing video.  The idea of a preview is to allow the rerader and oppportunity to examine a sample of teh books contents which may help to decide a purchase of the full book. The Preview should be  15 pages minimum. If you have - say 5 chapters, you could leave in the video and delete  everything except 3 pages in each chapter. The content is your choice- but needs to promote your book in a positive way.
Preview:  Chapter - you  indicate when asked and select the  chapter you prefer to use.
Preview: Let iTunesProducer auto create - if you select this option - you do not have to upload any file.. iTunesProducer will auto select a suitable sample to use.
    3.  If you cretae a folder  for each book you  make, and  move the books working  file..ie xxxxxx.iba file type
if/when you export a book it will be placed in that folder also.
When you reach the section to select your book and preview, if you have created one,  when you select, you  need to navigate to the folder and select the iBooks file. I don't see how you can have two files with identical names... also if you create a preview, it needs to  have a different name. I  rename to PREVIEWmybook.ibook- but anything will be OK- as long as you understand your changed name.
This way your files should not create any problems.
    4.  If you need to ..come back if it occurs again. ( which it may if you need to update the book later ).
A useful item on your  desk, is a notebook and pen!  Use it to make notes on errors or create a checklist of everything needed  in the delivery process and annotate  their individual requirements.
In truth, you seem to have done everything correctly and apart from file names..it possible previous issues create anxiety when uploading a new book.
I always  suggest having everything needed per book to be in its own folder:-
    1. book.iba file ( plus any  test version and backups ie mybookBU1.iba  PLUS  1 preview book file (xxx.ibook)  if  using one.
    2. 4 screen shots and 1 cover image at the correct size.
    3.  I use a plain txt  file with my "description "   I  write it up and change  as needed and  simply copy and past when I start a deliver process.
I appreciate you may already do this, but I include  for any newbies who  may see this later.
    Good luck with your books.....

  • ITMS-9012 Error uploading package in iTunes Producer

    Hi Everyone,
I have searched everywhere for this error number but can't seem to find anything about it.
We finally completed our book, and filled out all of the required info for our paid iBook (we have an ISBN, tax and operational iTunes Connect account) but when I try and upload the package via iTunes Producer I get several errors. All of them are ITMS-9012 and it follows with this: "No NCX Extension found for NavPoint" and will reference different pages. When I check some of the pages it references there are no superfluous items on the page (and not even any 'links' for the page, some of them are strictly text content).
I am baffled. It took over 4 hours to upload the file and now it seems I need to re-upload but I don't know how to fix the issue before I do. I tried using the Book Proofer app but that seems to only work with non iBA books.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I don't know if this is an issue after all. After checking my iTunes Connect account, I can see that the book is in my account so it appears to have uploaded successfully even though I got that strange error message.

  • Need an ISBN Number for my first ibook (epub)

I just finished my fixed layout book (epub) and its ready to go. I know I need to get an ISBN number before I can even submit the book to Apple to be aproved for the ibook store. But I am brand new to selling anything like this. So is there anyone out their who can tell me what the process is and if there are any tips you can give me?

    Jake,
I can assure you that I don't, haven't and won't be working for epubbud. (You can see more about me and the book at carpeaudience.com) My first experience with epubbud was in purchasing an ISBN number last week that was accepted by Apple. Since it was formatted in iBook Author the only place that eBook appears is on Apple's bookstore (Per contract.)
Recognize that distributing through Apple carries a 30% "Commission" going to Apple on every sale. My take is that is a fair price for the store exposure, digital delivery, reporting and payment processing.
I found a free eBook from O'Reilly Media called "Publishing with iBooks Author" that answered some of my questions. It may still be free at oreilly.com. But your first step is to create an account and decide if you want to abide by the Apple contracts. That can be all done online.
Managing books looks pretty cool. There's a simple dashboard that allows you to control your pricing and distribution. And provides you with feedback during the acceptance process. You'll also need to get iTunes Producer and Application Loader for uploading your books to the Apple store.
All that said, I'm still brand new to the process. Having heard that it takes weeks to go through the acceptance process, I was delighted that it only took a weekend. Wow. Seeing the software and reporting options that are available for iTunes Connect was also exciting. (And an iPad app for iTunes Connect). Getting Promo Codes so I can get promotional copies out is cool too. So it really is with wide-eyed wonder that I am walking down this path.
PS: One more thing on ISBN numbers. It really feels like domain names. You can spend hundreds to register a domain or you can do it for under $10. I was willing to risk a low cost ISBN and it was accepted by Apple. If it proves problematic, I can change.
    Good luck.

I did this already and after that I geet the screen with an option to download ITP ( I already have)
    any help here?
    R

If you're just trying to merge multiple iTunes libraries, you can use Apple's Homeshare feature. You will need at least two computers and just sign in to the account you want to keep on your newest Mac. Then sign in to one of the other accounts on another laptop and turn Homeshare on on both computers. You should be able to drag over the music files you want onto your new iTunes library. Then just rotate through the accoutns on the second computer or just rotate through the computers that the accounts are on.
Not sure if this is what you're trying to do. But I do agree with varjak paw that you can't merge accounts, but you could try to move everything into one library.

  • ITunes Producer upload error

I've got a 41.2MB iBook I'm trying to upload using iTunes Producer.  I've got a book, sample book, cover art and 5 screenshots.  At the delivery screen, I get text at the top that says Validation Completed.  I hit the deliver button, the barber pole starts and I get text saying validating metadata with the iTunes Store, validating assets with the iTunes Store, negotiating, validating assets with the iTunes Store, validating metadata with the iTunes Store, then I get an error, and when I send it to Apple I get this summary:

Thank you for contacting iBookstore Publisher Support.
We appreciate your report of this error in iTunes Producer. Our team is aware of this issue and is currently working towards a resolution. You will be notified by email once it is resolved.
    Thank you for your patience.
Then today, I got this from Apple:
The attached list of items did not upload successfully to the iTunes Store. If you still want to make these items available to customers, you will need to retry the uploads.
    Regards,
    The iTunes Store Team
I've read some stuff in the forums and I see a lot of problems with video but my book has none of that.  It's text and a lot of aviaiton historical photos and artwork, with two gallery widgets.  Nothing fancy.
Anybody have any advice?  I'd change the book if I need to but I don't have a clue as to what's causing the problem...
    Rocketman

I got a reply from iBookstore support that fixed me right up.  My issue was not a JAVA issue.  Here's what they sent:
You can make an update to your settings in iTunes Producer to avoid this issue.
    1. Open iTunes Producer
    2. From the iTunes Producer menu, open Preferences.
    3. Click on the icon for Advanced settings at the right side of the screen.
    4. Uncheck the box next to Signiant.
    5. Close settings and reattempt your delivery.
You will be notified by email once Signiant is available again.
Once I did that, my book delivered on the first try.  I'm fixed and thanks to Apple.

  • Ibooks author file not accepted by itunes producer

I have completed a book with an Ibooks author file size of 830MB; it is not being accepted by itunes Producer for upload. Do I need to export it to IBooks format? I did this export but the resulting file is just 77MB. I did not try to upload it via Itunes Producer as it seems to small to be correct. ????????

Thanks this helped but not enough. I was trying to feed the I books author file directly. So, i went to File/publish and created a file labeled ITMSP. Then went back to the Publisher wizard. I was unable to load the ITMSP file but the Publication window in ITUNES Producer has the Ibook file I exported from IBA in it. I continued through the wizzard but chose not enter a target audience. When I got to the end and clicked on the button to send to Apple it went through a verification process and flagged the lack of target audience. So I went back and entered 13 and up. But the same error keeps occuring and I can not proceed. Any ideas on the following
    1. How I clear the error message now that I have entered the right data
2.Is the Ibooks export the file that should show in the produce window, or should it be the ITMSP file that wont load there?

  • Can't load my iBooks Author package into iTunes Producer

Hi I've written my book in iBooks Author.
I've used iTunes Producer to load
all the Meta Data about the book. (ISBN, author, number of pages, categories, pricing etc)
The Cover art, the screen shots
Had approved my banking and tax stuff
All that is remaining is loading the actual book
On the iTunes Producer Asset screen it says
"Click choose to select or drag your publication file, or just drag and drop it in the box. For books the file must be in EPUB or iBooks format."
When I locate the iBooks file of my book (it is an iBooks Author file) it is greyed out and I can't select it or when I drag it, it doesn't go into the box.
    I'm using
    ver 2.0 of iBooks Author
    Ver 2.8 of iTunes Producer
Should I be converting it somehow?
When I tried using the Preview/ Publish button in iBooks Author it created a whole new file that was asking me to redo all the work I have previously done loading the meta data. Perhaps this is the only way, but then i can't work out how to add the Preview copy. It only loads the book.

I have had the same problem, and from the responses I have had to the question it seems it is universal with no way of getting publishing support. Very unhappy situation
