Itunes/QT converts video from sound to no-sound

I have a video that has sound. when i convert it for ipod or when I convert in QT to ipod, it ends up converted with no sound. Any thoughts? Thanks!

iTunes and Quicktime don't much like muxed MPEG files, they lose the sound when you convert them.
Here's a post I made with some ways around this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1171379&#1171379

We'll help figure this out, taney! What type of device are you downloading to? Have you tried downloading to a different device? Have you ever been able to download before and gotten the sound? Please provide some additional details, and we will work to resolve this matter.

  • How do i convert videos from a macbook to a pc once on an external hard drive?

A buddy gave me some videos from his macbook and i've got a PC. I gave him my external and he put them on there when i moved them from the external to my pc's hard drive and tried to play in itunes it wouldn't let me. It gave me this message and took me to download xvid. I tried xvid but it didn't seem to work. I'm trying to scour the internet trying to find a converter to be able to play them. Why is it when i gave him some videos i have it went right through to his macbook? He was able to open with no problem? Can someone please give me a program that will convert and allow me to ultimately place them on my iPhone please.
No i cannot afford or want to buy a mac at this time. Other than that suggestions are welcome.

    Hi geek girl,
The only way you can achieve this is by starting up the MacBook in TD mode, with the relevant disc in the Optical drive. You then have to connect the MacBook to a Tiger capable PPC based Mac, attach the external drive to the PPC based Mac and boot the PPC based Mac holding down the option key to access the Startup Manager. Then choose the OS DVD as the startup disc on the PPC based Mac (much as I mentioned in your thread in the iMac G5 forum)
Of course, if you have a normally operating PPC based mac you can simply use it instead, without the need for the macBook at all! This trick is only useful to re-install an OS if the optical drive in the PPC based mac isn't working, but everything else is for example.
In your case with your imac G5, though, I think you have a more serious issue, and simply getting an external drive with the right PPC OS on it isn't going to help you until it is resolved.

  • HD videos from Sony NEX-3 sound like the Chipmunks

My Sony NEX-3 720p MP4 videos sound like the Chipmunks. Video frame rate appears ok but the sound is way too fast. The files play nicely e.g. in Preview though.
iMovie imports the files nicely, using the internal SD reader in my iMac. However, the sound is out of sync in the imported files. From the sound of it, it seems the audio runs at least at 2x the speed.
Currently I use Handbrake for converting the camera clips into 25 fps m4v and then importing these into iMovie but it is a pain.

Can you tell me how you imported the video from your NEX-3 to iMovie?  When I try, the camera automatically opens iPhoto and imports it there.  If I open iMovie, all of the selctions are grayed-out so I can't import them.  I've tried getting the video straight from the camera but can't seem to do that either. Can you help?

  • Converted videos to iPod format--NO SOUND???

Hi, I just used iTunes to convert three Quick Time videos of mine to work with my iPod. One of them wouldn't convert because it "does not allow for saving or conversion". The other two came out as MPEG-4 files and when played they had no sound. They transfered to the iPod, but didn't have any sound there either. What can I do to preserve the sound when I convert them?
    Thanks for your help.

we had better check to see if it's all videos that aren't converting with sound (when you do the conversion), or just the specific ones you've been converting. this document should be of some help with that:

  • Used ITunes to Convert Video for IPod, But No Go!

I have a video from a vodcast I want to play on my video IPod. I used ITunes to convert the video from the .mov to .mv4 format. The video plays well in ITunes (in both formats). But when I try to sync it to my IPod, I get the warning that it cannot play on this IPod.
The thing is, I'm able to sync other .mv4 or .mp4 files on the IPod.
Anyone with information as to what's going on?

  • N97 - how to convert videos from ".flv" to ".mp4" ...

    Hi!
I loaded a ".flv" video from the Internet to my Desktop computer, then converted it to ".mp4" format - to show it on my N97. Unfortunately, the phone only plays the audio - the video is not displayed.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It seems that you hadn't changed the video frame. Use format factory app to covert the videos to your desired format. You might be having some mp4 videos that play in your device. Check the frame size of those videos and then convert the FLV files to that resolution. Hope this helps.

  • ITunes Rejecting Converted video - Why?

I have a 5G Ipod and am using v7.02 for ITunes. I am trying to copy converted video (Mediafork converted) into Itunes but Itunes does not appear to accept this even when using the 'click and drag', 'add to library',or import methods, or when using third-party software such as Podner. I get a green + icon when I drag to the Itunes Library- but then nothing.
I believe I have converted the video files correctly (MPEG4- fps, bitrate etc), so do not consider this to be the problem. Any idea what the problem is here?
The converted files are presenting as Quicktime - could it be Quicktime over-riding Itudes?
    Thanks in advance

    It's not converted correctly.
Did you manually set the parameters or use the default settings present in media fork for the iPod(under H.264 menu)?

  • Converting Video from Divx format to itunes

How do I import video in a divx format to itunes? I tried the way it says in the online instructions but i can't even import it to convert it over to itunes.

I don't have a "File > Add File to Library" command in my list in my Finder. I have not been able to get iTunes to even acknowledge that I have a .wma file to convert in any way shape or form. I know it's not protected. The demo version of EasyWMA is able to make the first 15 seconds into .mp3, and it only works with unprotected files, too. What am I missing on iTunes?

  • Used to be able to convert video from within iTunes (Right click Convert

Not sure where this went! I got a new MBP and moved my user account over - was this part of Quicktime Pro? I used to have it, still have a license, but not sure why it would have bugged out with the user migration.
I always thought this was just built into iTunes as it's always been there for me, was trying to show my friend how to do it and the feature wasn't there on his PC, I guessed it must have been a mac thing so went to show him on my laptop and it's gone here too.
Is this a QT Pro issue, something they just removed from iTunes or ???
Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

That feature was removed from the contextual menus in the 9.1 update to iTunes. You have to use the comment under the Advanced menu now.
    Regards.

  • Converted video for iphone plays no sound

When I use itunes on my PC to convert regular mpeg4 videos to play them on my iphone, the video plays, but there is no sound. Of course the manual lacks instructions for that, and just about anything else that doesn't have to do with how to buy more music from the apple store... Any ideas on why that is?

his is because the video you converted is muxed which means the audio and video are on the same track, quicktime or iTune can not deal with this kind of videos, you may try to use videora or streamclip to convert them again.

  • Converting Video from 44.1K to 48K

    Hello,
I'm trying to convert a video file from 44.1K to 48K for the audio track. I tried using the "Export" feature, which worked fine in regards to the audio stream itself, but the new movie (which was already compressed to begin with) now looks horrible.
What is the easiest way to simply change the audio track -- Without touching the video part? Thanks!
    Jerome

Open the file in QuickTime Player. Export > Sound to AIFF. Use the Options button to access the 48k setting. Save the file.
Press command and J keys to access QT's Properties window. Click the audio track. click Delete at top left.
Open your newly converted 48k audio. Press command and A (select all). Bring your movie to the front. Choose Edit > Add to Movie from the menu bar. Save the new version of your movie.
    Done.

  • Imported video from iPhone suddenly without sound. Thanks Apple!

Is there any way of recovering the original file from my iphone? Im used to Apple delivering products of high quality therefore I delete all files from my iPhone after importing to my computer. You shouldnt have to save the files just to make sure the import was a success.   But this time I shouldnt have trusted this lousy piece of "equipment".  I, full of anticipation, watched my movies. They have not sound! Why now!? Why these movies?! I have not changed any settings in my iPhone at all since last recording of videos with working sound and I have racorded videos with working sound after these.
The imported videofile have no sound at all. This is not a question about volume. VLC tells me there is no sound stream at all! Videos taken the day after have normal working sound. Presumably worthless iTunes messed up the importing and some great, priceless minutes of video gets destroyed because there is no sound!
Please someone help me recover the original files from my iPhone or get these minutes of video WITH sound. pleaase!
    /Carl

The fact that you never heard of it doesnt change my situation. But thanks for the sympathy.
    The problem still exists.
If it is not iPhotos fault. It must be Apples video-app on my iPhone. Right?! Its still the same company that made this junk. I dont know of any swith muting the sound while recording video.
I am also aware of the problems involved in saving data that has been flagged "OK to delete" by the OS.
Regarding the "try google tip" Im not sure if you are suggesting any other means of data recovery that wouldnt be proper to suggest on this website but still might work. If that is the case please insist on suggesting that method once more, maybe beeing a bit more specific?
If you are just beeing polite and havent got any more answers but still want to help by giving me standard answer. Thank you for your help but it wasnt enough.

  • Record video from camcorder and separate sound source direct to mac?

Hi. I want to make a video of myself playing piano (or whatever) with high quality sound. I bought a nice Panasonic mini-dv camcorder with a mic input, firewire, and USB for the job. Unfortunately the sound is ruined by the camcorder's compression kicking in and spoiling the quiet parts. Apparently the compression can't be turned off.
What would be ideal would be to record straight to the Mac with the video coming from the camcorder and the sound coming from my high quality mics. I could send the sound either as analog or already converted via firewire or lightpipe.
    Help?

I'm running two serious condenser mics into a "board", panning one left and one right and sending them out stereo into the camcorder. Even with external mics the audio compression still kicks in and tries to bring up the quiet parts, which not only destroys the dynamics of the music, it brings the noise floor way up so that it's quite audible.
My camcorder is a Panasonic PV GS65, which in 2005 was the cheapest 3CCD camera they made. The video is quite good but very few cheaper camcorders have mic inputs, let alone manual record levels.
I've never tried making movies before but after messing with Windows Movie Maker for a few minutes I've discovered that all I have to do is plug my camcorder into a firewire port and I'm ready to go.
It turns out that whether I use Mac or PC for video, I won't need the mic input in the camcorder after all. I'll record the audio into Logic Pro 8 as I shoot the video and one way or the other I should be able to sync them up pretty close.
My question still remains however: Is it possible to record the sound straight onto the video file from a separate source while shooting the video? Or is it only possible to record the one firewire source from the camera?

Being an MP4 file alone is not enough.

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.
HandBrake includes a number of Apple default settings for a conversion including Universal, iPod, iPhone & iPod Touch, Apple TV, and a number of other Legacy defaults.
Since I have an Apple TV, I always use the Apple TV default setting which also allows for transferring a video converted with this default setting from my iTunes library to my iPhone.
Which default Apple setting for the conversion did you use?
