Itunes recently updated on my PC and now it will not recognize my iPhone.  How do I get it to recognize so I can sync?

I updated iTunes this morning and afterwards I went to sync my iPhone and iTunes will not recognize the iPhone.  The computer will, but iTunes will not.  How do I get iTunes to recognize the iPhone so I can sync.  I do have the phone connected to the computer with the cable.
