ITunes screen automatically scrolls to show current song - how to disable?

Whenever a song starts playing in iTunes the screen instantly scrolls to show the song details. This is very annoying when browsing the library while listening to music as you have to scroll back to the spot you were at each time a new song starts.
Is there a way to disable this pointless 'feature'?

Here is an update. Actually what is happening, is the view of the album (in the top with the pictures of the albums) switches to what is playing after a few seconds of inactivity, and the list of songs below that stays where I left off. But when the song is over, the list also switches to the new song that is playing. How do you keep this from happening?

Will not shut off, will not charge... pretty frustrated, I updated it recently (within the last 10 days....Has anyone had similar experience? If so was it fixed? Please post any help for me... thank you... I am pretty frustrated right now.

its fixed!!  After posting my problem with the FROZEN ipod classic (2007) 80 gb a screen popped up with similar subjects that I did not find in my original search.  'Rich Fleming' in the community posted a suggestion to someone with a similar frozen issue and it WORKED when I tried it.
hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working.  Hope this helps others.

  • Can you automatically "Show Current Song"?

I know that you can select the song that is playing by choosing File>Show Current Song...
but is there a way to do this automatically? So that the current song is automatically selected thereby showing the artwork of the current song?

At the top of the Artwork box, click the arrow and it will change between Selected Track and Now Playing.

  • Shortcut Remapping: Show Current Song

I've been able to navigate to the currently paying song just fine. But one of my FAVORITE shortcuts in iTunes is Cmd-L, Show Current Song. It shows me the song that is playing, in whatever venue it is playing it in, be it playlist or album or whatever. As the current Mac shortcut for Focus on the search bar has 2 Keymappings, would it be possible to remap Cmd-L to Show Current Song?

  • [Desktop][Playlists] Automatically scroll as you seek songs

I suggest that Spotify implement an "autoscroll" feature that, as you "seek" forward or backward songs, it will automatically scroll the find that song on the screen. For example, if you're in a long playlist about halfway down but don't know exactly where that song is in the playlist, if you advance to the next song or go back to the previous song, your client will snap to where that song is located in the playlist. This will make finding where you're at, and finding songs, in playlists (or artists pages) much easier.

Updated: 2015-07-23Hello and thanks for the feedback!
A similar idea has also been suggested here:

  • How do you turn off show current song?

hi does anyone here know how to turn off "show current song" in the Edit menu?
    its driving me crazy!!
    thanks

drat ... i should have checked over there anyway.
hmmmm. i've played with that a bit (now that i've found it), and i'm not sure precisely how to do that, or if it's possible. (other people feel free to leap in at this point.)
if you're doing a serious information-editing run while you're playing music in the background, you could try this workaround. create a temporary ordinary playlist, and drag in to that the songs that you want to edit info on. do the editing in that playlist. a song change going on in a different playlist (or the main library) won't adjust your view in the playlist that you're working in.
once you've finished the editing, you could just delete the playlist (or empty the contents of the playlist).

  • HT204498 I have 2 apple store accounts and this has resulted in 2 iTunes accounts with different TV show purchases. How can I get both on my AppleTV?

I have 2 apple store accounts and this has resulted in 2 iTunes accounts with different TV show purchases. How can I get both on my AppleTV? It was suggested I sign out of the current active AppleTV account and sign in with the other. I can find no way to do this. Also, I have been advised by Apple that I cannot consolidate the two accounts.

I am certain you are doing backups of your TV shows on your computer in iTunes?!  If not, do so.  You should also make sure that you backup both accounts.  Now, for your problem, you could combine the backups to one location then use your computer function on your Apple TV to watch all of your TV shows in one place.  The only other way to watch both accounts is to actually go into account settings on your Apple TV and change the account info to the account you want to watch the TV shows in that account.  Sounds awful, probably is.

  • How do you get iTunes to AUTOMATICALLY change to the LATEST SONG (Ctrl   L) ??

When itunes changes song it does not automatically take me to the location of the current song as it would if you press Ctrl + L on itunes but i do not want to have to do that every time
    >> Any help would be nice thanks

You can get a taskbar toolbar by right clicking anywhere on your taskbar. Select toolbars and put a check mark next to iTunes. Then, in iTunes Preferences: iTunes > Edit > Preferences > Advanced Make sure the box Minimize iTunes to the System Tray is UNCHECKED.
Now when you minimize iTunes you'll get the toolbar.

  • Sync 622 songs from Itunes to Iphone but Iphone shows 986 songs.  What am I doing wrong?

I want to sync 622 songs from my Itunes on iMAC to my Iphone but everytime I sync my Iphone shows 986 songs.
Where are the extra songs coming from?
The extra songs listed under "music on my device" are grayed out with a dashed circle on the Itunes program.
Yes, I clicked on "sync only clicked on music and videos" and "sync selected music, artists"
Is there a simple fix so that when I sync my song from mac to iphone, it is a WYSIWYG process?
    I have the Iphone 5 iOS 8.1.3, Mac mid 2007 OSX 10.7.5, Itunes 12.1.0.50
    Thanks!

    Try the following:
Attach your iPhone to iTunes on your computer and sync as usual.
When the iPhone's summary page is open in iTunes, click on the "Music" tab under "Settings" on the left side (2 rows below "Summary").
Uncheck the "Sync Music" box.  Accept the "Are You Sure ...".  That will remove all synced music from your iPhone once you click "Apply" in the lower right.  (Of course, that music remains in iTunes).
Once that is complete, your iPhone should contain only the extra 364 songs.  Do what you like with them.
Then recheck the "Sync Music" box and apply.  That will restore the 622 songs to your iPhone.

  • Reinstalling iTunes to new computer; Concerned for current songs on iPod

Alright, so my last computer just died November 29th un-expectantly. (It suddenly shut down while in the middle of a conversation with a friend and wouldn't turn back on since). At first I hopped that it was possible overheating because of that week, it had been on from morning to night none stop.
Yet, it soon showed that it was completely fried.
I hadn't backed up any of my music and so everything that wasn't lost on the computer is still on my ipod. Today, my grandmother gave us one of her good computers and I am prepared to reinstall itunes to it and start over.
But I am concerned on what will happen to the 700+ songs still on my ipod when I sync it. Will I lose them when I sync my ipod and if so, is there a way to save them??

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How can I get iTunes to automatically find the file for songs marked with ! without manually doing each one?

Ok, we've had a problem with our external hard drive which holds all of our music files (our H drive).  It's the 2nd time going down and we're just chalking it up as a failure.  Fortunately, we had it all backed up onto another external hard drive (our G drive).  We re-did iTunes back in February (bringing all the files in, sorting, playlists, etc) after fixing it the first time.  So I have that exact files from then (on the G drive) minus a new CD or two, nothing major.  But when I open that iTunes library, it doesn't find the music that is connected to it - even though all the music is in the folder connected to the library (all in G drive).  I'm not sure if this file is still trying to look for my H drive folder.
I found a previous question asked on here about the ! songs.  I brought in all the music from the iTunes/Music folder.  So of course, I have double now.  I would just go delete all the rest - except for this.  What about my playlists??   I don't really want to recreate each one manually.  I have also adjusted a ton of info in iTunes over the years to make things easier (fixed spelling when it brings it from a CD wrong, etc).  That brings me back to wondering if I could have iTunes automatically search for its own file instead of me doing it for 7,500+ songs.
Any ideas??   Or am I just stuck doing a lot of work?
    Thanks!

If what is on the G: drive is a mirror of what was on the H: drive, then get Windows to change the drive letter of G: to H:
If a simple fix isn't forthcoming then my FindTracks script should be able to reconnect the missing tracks to iTunes. FindTracks uses some fuzzy matching routines and searches for multiple potential locations. For more details see this thread.

  • Itunes screen freezes when trying to load songs in new ipod shuffle

I just bought an ipod shuffle for my mother but when I try to load songs from itunes, the screen just seems to freeze until I disconnect shuffle.
I tried to restore it but it doesn't work ("error 1418" is all I can get).
I don't understand why since I have no problem with my ipod nano on the same computer.

Be sure to use a rear port on your Shuffle, it needs full power to work.

  • Captivate 7 Screen Captures (scrolling) not showing when published in HTML5

I am using Captivate 7 and when I publish in HTML5 my screen captures (of the screen scrolling) do not show -- I get a blank screen for a couple of seconds --, even though they show when I preview for the Web in HTML5. They also show when I play them locally, but not from my server. Here is a link to a short video that has this problem -- click the fast forward button seven times after clicking play to get to a screen scroll.  http://streaming.missioncollege.org/library/media/Tutorials/Title/index.html

I was using Internet Explorer 9. This morning I tried 10 & 11 with the same results. It works fine in Chrome and on a Mac with Safari. I do not have my iPad with me today, but I tried it this weekend and had the same problem, though I just updated my OS, so I will try again. If it does not work well on an iPad then I might as well output as FLASH. I will try my iPad again tonight and report back tomorrow. Thanks.
