ITunes Setup Assistant runs every time I start iTunes 7.3.1.3

The past 2 iterations of iTunes have had the same problem for me - even though the program is installed already, it doesn't save my settings and runs the setup assistant every time I start the application. I've gone through the assistant twice and put everything as I had it previously but, once I close the program and restart, the assistant pops up again and my settings are gone. I never had this problem until 7.3 or 7.3.1 and it's very frustrating... (>_<)<br>

Well, iTunes appears to finally work correctly. I don't know exactly why this is but it's due to one of three possible things. First, I uninstalled the 2 programs that I had installed to monitor what music I played for their services. These programs were Last.fm for Windows Version 1.3.1.1 iTunes plugin version 2.0.11.0 and Virb.com iTunes Plugin Version 1.0.0.5. Finally, instead of using the Apple Software Update on my computer as I had previously, this time I went directly to Apple's website, downloaded the entire iTunes + Quicktime install package, and reinstalled from that. After doing so, the Setup Assistant ran again but finally remembered my altered settings upon program restart. Now that iTunes was working properly, I have reinstalled both plugins and they now appear to function properly without negatively affecting iTunes. I hope this helps people who have also installed plugins to monitor their music listening patterns and had problems with the latest iTunes update.

  • Setup assistant running every time I open iTunes

    Hi,
I'm having a really annoying problem with iTunes - ever since I installed the latest version, the setup assistant pops up EVERY time I open iTunes. I finally let it run all the way through one day in hopes that would put a stop to it, but to no avail. It actually duplicated many things in my library and made random changes here and there to album artwork and song/artist/album names (that I didn't want changed and had to spend a LOT of time correcting). Once I click cancel, it takes me into iTunes as normal but I don't want the assistant coming up every time I open the program. I haven't been able to find any help topics on this issue. I've tried re-installing, it didn't help. Assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Lori

Hi, I have the exact same problem since my first crash with 9.0 I'm hesitant to go through the set up where it asks me to either let iTunes search my home folder for mp3/ACC or I can chose to do it myself later. Can one of these options delete my current library? When I cancel the set up at this point, iTunes opens up normally with everything intact. I'm scared to screw it all up if I chose one of these options. Any advice?

  • Network Setup Assistant runs every time I turn the computer on.

Everytime I turn on my computer, Network Setup Assistant decides that it wants to help me locate and create a new network - which is awfully nice of it. The problem, however, is that it either a) never fully completes because of some failure, or b)doesn't need to happen in the first place because I can access my Airport network without the setup assistant.
Is there any way to turn the Network Setup Assistant off, or at least make is stop trying to help me when I don't need it to?

First you can just uncheck them if they are checked if there's nothing there that you want to open when you boot up. Usually there are software programs that you have downloaded
that you might have in your menu bar at bootup.
There might be the Mac HD. Check that if you want the HD window opened after bootup.

  • 'iTunes Software Licence Agreement' every time I open iTunes

Since the most recent iTunes update, I'm getting the 'iTunes Software Licence Agreement' window every time I open iTunes (screenshot - http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5265/68707078.png) -- to which I have to select 'agree' to access normally.
Why? And anyway to stop this?
    Thanks in advance.

Though on my own account, its still comming up with the "set up" screens before it starts.. any other ideas i could try?
iTunes setup assistant runs every time you launch, user-account-specific issue ... I think your other set of iTunes preference files (in your normal user account) might be damaged, Gareth. (Have experimented with this on my XP PC ... rebuild one set and the license agreement runs, rebuild the other set and the iTunes Setup assistant runs. So damage to the 'other" set might be causing your relentless-setup-assistant thing.)
So, we'll try swapping out your other set of pref files. Here's Windows 7 instructions. Make a note of any custom preferences you have set up, because this procedure will return everything to default that wasn't returned to default by rebuilding the other set. You might also have to reinstall any third-party iTunes add-ons/plug-ins after doing this one, too.
Here's Windows 7 instructions for rebuilding "the other set" *(Step 10* contains the crucial difference from the license-agreement-problem instructions).
First, quit iTunes if you have it open.
Next, you'll need to make sure you are set up to view hidden files and folders in Vista (or 7).
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    5. Click OK.
Next, you'll remove the iTunes preference folder (and contained file).
    6. In Computer, open Local Disk: C or whichever drive your documents are stored on.
    7. Open the Users folder.
    8. Open the folder with the name of the Vista (or 7) user account in which iTunes always shows the setup assistant in when launching.
    9. Open the AppData folder.
    10. Open the Roaming folder.
    11. Open the Apple Computer folder.
    12. Drag the iTunes folder out onto the Desktop.
Now you'll rebuild the preference folder and file.
    13. Launch iTunes. This will cause iTunes to rebuild that preference folder and file. *The setup assistant will appear for you again.* (That is expected behavior when that particular preference folder and contained file are being rebuilt.)
    14. Now quit iTunes and launch iTunes again. If the preference folder and contained file have been successfully rebuilt, the setup assistant should not appear this time.
    ... any luck with that?

Every time I start iTunes I get the message: "iTunes exec has been set to run in compatability mode for an older version of Windows. Turn off compatability mode for iTunes before you open it." How do I turn off the compatability mode? Particularly when I have to do it before I turn on iTunes.

Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

I rented a movie - it expired a month ago. iTunes still tries to download the movie every time i start iTunes. I get an error that it couldn't download the movie.
    help....

did both as yo usuggested and it goes away while iTunes is up and running which is better than before.
However, when I restart iTunes it just comes back.
there is something else that initiates the need for the download.

Every time I start iTunes from windows, I get a dialog with this error message:

  • Itunes reanalyzes gapless information every time I start it

A month or two ago itunes started reanalyzing gapless playback information every time I start the program.  It started one day with the album I imported, and since then every time I start itunes it re-analyzes the info for every file added since then.  I can't find the option to turn off gapless playback.  Any ideas?  I'd like to be able to actually play music when I start itunes, but I always have to wait for the analysis to finish.

Do a search with Spotlight for ".plist" (without the quotes). In that list (should be very long) there should be a file named com.apple.itunes.plist. Delete that file by dragging it from the Spotlight list to the Trash. Don't worry if you drag the wrong file and delete it, as these are preference files that recreate themselves when you launch an application.

  • My Itunes Match crashes every time I start Itunes

I have the current iTunes.  I have cloud match.  every time i start itunes it goes through the match process and gets to the part where it's going to upload the songs it wasn't able to match (about 325 out of 22.5k) and "itunes has stopped working"  every time.  These are songs I've loaded to itunes from CD's.  Any ideas on what to do?

    Hi,
There may a problem track amongst those tracks that are waiting. Firstly, add iCloud status column to song view - go to menu > view > view options and tick box.
Next is to examine those tracks waiting - is there anything unusual or large? You may need to remove all those tracks waiting from your library. Next hold shift key whilst turning off match. Close iTunes, reopen and turn on match. You will be asked to add this computer, do so. The match process should be quick, match will remember previous matches and uploads.
Once process complete, readd those tracks, a small batch at a time. This will help you find any track that match does not like.

  • ITunes asks for my password every time I start iTunes

I have a MBP tunning Lion 10.7.2. I am running iTunes version 10.5.1. Everytime I start iTunes it asks for my itunes password to make automatic downloads available. So I enter it. But the next time I start iTunes it asks again, and again and again. If I hit cancel it will ask again. If I Sign Out of the store it won't ask anymore, until I sign into the store again. If I stay signed in and I hit cancle when it asks it still lists me as signed in.
This seems to have started since Lion.
    Any suggestions? It's very annoying.

Okay, I think I got the answer. I went to the Apple store and asked a salesman who pointed me in the direction of another salesman who knows his stuff. I've only done this for a few days, but it seems to be working.
Open itunes and sign out and de-authorize. You must do both.
He reccomended going into keychain access and deleteing the itunes entry. I could not find it, which may have been the problem, more later.
I then rebooted and cleared PRAM for good measure.
Now restart itunes and sign in and authorize.
I did this on Monday night and have not been having the problem, I opened itunes several times and rebooted several times, etc.
Today I checked keychain access and now I see an itunes entry.
I think it is okay now!

  • I encounter the "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved.  An unknown error occurred(-50)." every time i start itunes on my dell laptop which is running windows 7. How do i resolve this?

    (-50)

Try signing out of the iTunes Store, closing iTunes, then reopening. Does the error occur?
See also Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows. Not sure it is relevant but can't hurt.
It may help to exclude the iTunes folder from any real-time anti-virus scanner.

  • Lion setup assistant opens every time I log on...

I just upgraded my iMac 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo to Lion. Now, every time I log on, the Lion setup assistant boots up and requires me to "click to continue." Also, the iCloud preference pane opens up. This happens every single time I log on. I have tried to find out how to disable the screens from opening, but with no luck. Can anyone help me turn the buggers off?

rkaufmann87, Thanks again for your reply,
I had done the simple things previous to my last post - following your excellent advice on other threads.  I have tried again the methods you describe, starting in safe mode.  Also starting via the recovery disk and 'Repair Disk Permission' (done this about 6 times).  Unfortunately no change.  What is strange is the same mesage is displayed multiple times.
    "Permissions differ on system/library/coreservices/remoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/contents/support/remo tedesktopapp/contents/resources"
"Repaired system library core services remoteManagement/ARDSmgmt.app"
And running Repair Disk Permissions, the same repair is affected even when this was completed in the past repair scan.  It is as if the repair is not effective or there is a subroutine rewriting this again?
The Repair Disk Option has been run multiple times with no fault found.
I have even done a full install from safe mode, downloading the install file again from the app store but still have the same problem.  Settings not remembered and the set up assistant launches again with the System Preferences pane also displayed.  The MacBook also seems sluggish compared to the mac mini which had its Lion update and works just fine.  Thankfully ios5 devices, ipad and iphone work a treat, its just getting this MacBook sorted.
Can you advise my best course of action?
I get the impression that I will neeed to backup my data and 'start again' with a disk format and clean install?
    Many thanks

  • Setup assistant crashes every time on new MacBook!

    Hello everyone,
I have an unusual problem with a newly purchased Macbook (2GHz).
The first time I turned it on it ran through Setup assistant up until I'm prompted for an Apple ID, at which point it crashed and returns to the Welcome animation - continuing in this loop whatever info is entered. I have tried:
    - Repairing permissions
    - Zapping PRAM
    - Starting in Safe Mode
    - Formatting and restoring from original OS DVDs
    None of these have worked.
Lastly I have used Terminal from a DVD boot to pick up the crash log files stored on the OS partition - two files are:
    Setup Assistant... .crash
    VDCAssistant... .crash
Here is the header from the first file:
    Process: Setup Assistant [419]
    Path: /System/Library/CoreServices/Setup Assistant.app/Contents/MacOS/Setup Assistant

    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Many Thanks!

Just experienced the same problem on a brand new mac mini after applying a Leopard software update. I stumbled upon a few threads that helped me out. Essentially, you need to reboot the mac in safe mode, and then restart. That's what I did and it worked fine (not that I think this is acceptable but it's a solution.)
