ITunes (upgrade) 10.1.0.64(x64) fails and now can't install iTunes
Hi...need a bit of help here please.
I've been running iTunes fine now for years and due to the 'always seems to work' I even bought an iPhone and iPad, however I'm now stuck.
Last Thursday, the iTunes updater service told me a new version was available, without even thinking about it (as it always seems to work) I said yes...oh dear.
At the end of the installation it wanted to reboot, so I said yes, however after the reboot the iTunes icon wouldn't startup iTunes and complained about a lack permissions. I checked the folder structure and it was true, my account didn't have permissions...in fact no account did other than something called msiserver. So I took over the permission but still nothing.
I then set about uninstalling iTunes (control panel etc) and downloaded the iTunes64 package from Apple. This time it complained about the "Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be found".
So...pop over to the iTunes forum and seems like I'm not alone. Advice was to uninstall and download 'Revo Uninstaller' and make sure everything is removed. I did this and rebooted. Tried the installation again and received the same message about the Installer Package.
Another '****-up' is that when the installation fails, it doesn't remove everything as it's trying to back out. The Mobile Device, Bonjour and Apple Updater remain.
Any ideas?

I finally got it to work! Whew! Sorry. lol Ok, I went to the support page for iTunes (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/) and went to the Installing and Removing iTunes bar and clicked on the Uninstalling iTunes sub category. Then, I clicked on this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923. You can choose which article to use depending on your operating system. I followed all the steps then downloaded the newest version of iTunes, and it worked. All of my stuff is back.

They just add some circuits and a USB (or other) interface. I would just get the cheapest drive that you can get that is for laptops and looks simple to take apart. The "old internal" drive should still be able to allow you to install ML on the "new" drive as long as you tell it to. It sounds complicated, but it's really not once you get in there and start doing it. It was actually quite easy. -
Upgraded Mini from 10.3 to Leopard 10.6.3 and now my dvd drive does not work properly.

Opened up itunes this morning and it said there was an update. So I hit the Install new version button. Gets just about all the way through and says there was an error.
I tried opening itunes from the shortcut on my desktop and says that it's pointing to nothing.
Downloaded the latest version of itunes and it installs all the way untill it gives me the finger .. I mean ... this screen shot:
Nice one Apple. "All your music. All in one place" .. but you can't access it. HAHAHAHA
Any one else finding this problem and a way around it?

Mountain Lion install failed and now can't access HD
Currently on a Early 2011 high-end Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard.
I downloaded and then went to install Mountain Lion, everything was fine and it began to restart for the install after the initial loading thing. However, when it came to install it gave me an error that roughly said the drive is damaged and can't be repaired, telling me to click restart and try installing again. I did this, (taking slightly longer and the colour of the background became more yellow at one point) but instead of the logon pane it went to OSX Utilities.
On Disk Utility, it said Macintosh HD was unmounted. Below that, under 'disk1' Mac OS X Install ESD appears and then below that under 'disk2' Mac OS X Base System is shown. I tried to mount the HD but it didn't work, and when I tried to repair the disk it said it couldn't be repaired and that I should back up my files. I do think my files are still present, I was able to access them on the Burn pane through the finder window. I then tried to reboot using the Macintosh HD startup disk but that then said it didn't have enough information to do so.
This person's problem (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3192437) seemed almost identical to mine, however I have files I need and cannot afford to lose them. What do you suggest I do to retrieve my files? That is what I am solely concerned for right now. Upgraded to MAC OS 10.8.3 and now can't change desktop photo (not responding).
I installed the update, rebooted and now can't change my desktop in System Preferrences (spinning wheel of death/ not responding when I try to search for pictures). Anybody else have this issue?

Try deleting the Desktop settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart, so you should be able to change the desktop -
Installing IOS 5.1.1 on my iphone failed and now the phone will not show up on itunes and is not recognized by my PC. I tried all troubleshooting Apple says to do minus uninstalling itunes. My wifes iphone still works fine with the same cable and itunes on my PC. ----- Help!
Hello. I was like this yesterday after upgrading 5.1.1. The proccess failed and the iphone only showed the USB cable with the iTunes logo.
What I did was connect the iphone to my wife's PC, and there, with a clean itunes installation, install a clean 5.1.1. Then, went back to my iMac and connect it again, and now it works.
But now, with my iphone working as new, it still cannot be showed up in itunes. I am still working on it.

Tried to upgrade my iPhone 4 to 5.1 and now it is stuck in "plug into itunes mode" but will not recover when I plug it in. It is coming up as "unkown error (1)". Is there anything I can do?
Also, is there any way to recover pictures I have not yet backed up? They should be on iTunes, but do not show up when I plug the phone in or otherwise.

Try changing the USB port (the back one of chassis is better) and restart computer.
The installed version of iTunes may also be too old. Update iTunes.
Also put your iPhone in DFU mode when doing the above and restore. It's a software error. -
How do I re-download podcasts? My external hard drive failed and I can't figure out how to download them again in the updated iTunes.
The Time Capsule drive is a network drive. You have to mount it on the desktop before you will be able to drag/drop files onto the disk. More tips are in this thread:

The Time Capsule was designed for your backups.
If you move a file to the Time Capsule drive and delete the file from your Mac.....you have no backup.
Your only copy of the file will be on the Time Capsule drive. I would only do this with files that I could afford to lose.
All drives fail. When.....not if....the Time Capsule drive has a problem, you will lose your data. -
I upgraded my iphone 5 to iOS 8 and now i get an itunes error message when I try to sync "this iphone cannot be synced. Unknown error. (-50). my icloud drive was stuck in an upgrade cycle, but i've stopped that and still get the error message.
I restarted itunes and tried again (based on a similar question/solution from 2012).
I don't get the error message anymore, but it's really sort of odd that after step one of sync, it looks as if sync stopped, and then all of a sudden you see step 4 of sync.
Also before the upgrade I had 7+ gigs of space free and after the upgrade I have 10 gigs free. seems like something is amiss, but it's not like I have anyway of determining that. -

I just upgraded my ipad 2 on apple's advice now can't do the back-up on my now-empty ipad! itunes won't recognise my password! help help
Just for information in case helps anyone else, I have now accessed the back-up, I tried a different password from memory but it is not the normal iTunes password I use - which is what you'd expect them to be after. Now I don't know how to get the app collection back onto the screen, they aren't opening. Wish I never had upgraded...

I currently have an I5 and as with the previous I4, both buttons have failed and now my battery lasts almost six hours if I don't use it. I cannot upgrade my phone until March, 2015 even though I recently upgraded my phone to the More Everything Plan. Am I destined to be a nonuser for three months until I can upgrade. This is very unacceptable as I've been a Verizon Wireless customer for probably 20 yrs!
As a 20 year customer of ours, we certainly appreciate your loyalty Richey_Rich. I know the importance of ensuring you have a properly operating phone. Can you please clarify which button on the device is not working? Is there any physical or water damage to your phone? Any applications that stay running?

Hi, Can anyone help. Updating my iPod via iTunes failed and now shows a permanently lit screeen witrh a white apple logo above what appears to be an empty download bar indicator.
Neither iTunes or my PC will recognise or detect it wehen commected to the USB port.
All iPod buttons are responsive, including diagnostics mode (Menu+Sleep buttons).

I don't think I actually managed to get it into DFU mode, although not too sure what that is, but following Karthik's advice and although not quite getting the response from my iPod, as it suggested, it eventually came up with the USB piccy and iTunes icon. From there on everything fell into place and it is currently Synching with iTunes after having done a restore.
