ITunes uses almost 100% of CPU and slows PC down

Recently I decided to start using my iPod touch 4G again and downloaded the latest version of iTunes.
Upon launch, iTunes acts normally until about 4-5 minutes of being open (just in idle). It then happily proceeds to use up 100% of my CPU load and slows my entire PC down to a halt, even once I've closed it (iTunes).
I've tried re-installing it, downloading a different version, disconnecting from the internet, practically everything and yet the problem persists.
My PC specs are as follows:
Amd FX Piledriver 8-Core FX-8350 @ 4.0GHz
Powercolour HD7990 Devil 13
G-Skill 1866Mhz 16Gb memory
OCZ Vector 128Gb HDD / WD Caviar Green 3TB
So I can assure you, this is NOT hardware related.
I've tried the following method with no results.
1) Click Start and type "cmd" (without the quotes) DO NOT press enter or Ok yet.
2) Right click "cmd" in the search results at the top of the start menu and select "Run as Administrator".
3) In the command window, type "netsh" and press enter. (Without the quotes)
4) In the next prompt, type "winsock" and press enter. (Without the quotes)
5) In the next prompt, type "reset" and press enter. (Without the quotes)
6) Reboot the PC. (Do not skip this step)
I've also been through the list of conflicting software and have none of the mentioned.
I'm running Windows 7 with the latest updates.
I'm getting extremely frustrated now. ANY help would be appreciated.

Sorry. I did a search, and a lot of threads came up. The one I chose, I thought, explained WHY it happened.
Maybe you'd get answers more helpful to you, if you went throught the search results.
Sorry I wasn't of any assistance.

  • ITunes Using Up 100% of CPU

For some reason iTunes was using 100% of my CPU, for some reason I thought the iTunes library may have been corrupt, making iTuunes use 100% of my CPU when I started it. So I deleted my .itl file and imported all of my music again, so now all my songs are in iTunes and it seemed to work. Then, as part of my settings, I turned on the souncd check, now iTunes uses 100% of my CPU and doesn't respond when I open it, how can I fix this?

  • Quicktime desktop recording use almost 100% of cpu!

When the video recording of the desktop is on, my Macbook pro (2.4 GHz, 8 Go ram, mid-2010) become really slow. Quicktime then use near 100% of the CPU. So I can't do the task I whant to record (someting like a tutorial).
Is there a solution for this? I tried Voila app and IT WORK PERFECTLY. So, what's the deal with quicktime?
    Thanks,
    SL

    Thanks for the reply,
Turned flash off but it made no difference, Facebook home page still shoots Firefox cpu up to 100%.

  • "Installer" using up all my memory and slowing macbook down

"Installer" seems to take up all my memory and slow my macbook right down, anyone know a solution?
Also the "18.68MB" is from the memory clean app showing how much ram is free, Installer seems to just eat it up

There is some adware called Genieo that often comes packaged in installers named "Installer." If you have installed that, you need to force the installer to quit, delete the installer and then follow the Genieo removal instructions here:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/
I would also note that I see µTorrent in your Activity Monitor. Be aware that downloading illegal material through torrents (or other means) is very dangerous behavior, and there has been a significant upsurge recently in adware infections coming through such files. Even a few malware infections as well. Do not download such things.

  • Plugin-container.exe maxes out cpu and slow everything down, how to remove?

all goes to 100 % cpu antivirus not always running at same time,it does not matter,i turned antivirus off and it still did it..can i get rid of this and delete it or why do i need it

    look this one
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
in firefox 6 the preference dom.ipc.plugins.enabled is already set to "true", by default, change it to "false". Read the above article about crash protection.

  • Firefox using almost 100% CPU - hogging resources - hanging

After several hours of operating Firefox starts using almost 100% CPU - with peaks of 100% occurring in rapid succession - FF hangs until CPU useage drops below 100%
Followed recommended troubleshooting as recommended on this site:
    * Started in Safe mode - no problems occurred.
    * Disabled all extensions; Plug-ins left operating.
    * No replication of problems.
    * Enable 1/2 of extensions up to Flashblock - restarted - seems ok
    * Enable most remaining extensions
    * (There are 3 Java extesnions - only enabling one) - again seems ok
    * Some hours later - problem reoccurred. Each time CPU useage peaked at 100% (according to Task Manager) the Firefox Window flickered & was unresponsive.
    * Deleted cache - no change
    * Disabled recently added programs - no change
FF opens and closes normally & completely. '''Problem only seems to occur after FF has been operating for some time'''
This has occurred intermittantly before but has become chronic over the last few days. Apologies if I've been repetitive or explained poorly - FF has hung several times while typing this.

No issue for me, after 4 loops my CPU load was around 18%.

  • Process: "kernel_task" taking up almost 100% of CPU

A few hours ago, I noticed my MBP start hanging and generally processing very slow. Apps would freeze at random times, and generally a lot of odd behavior.
I checked the activity monitor to see what might be causing this. It turns out, the process "kernel_task" is using almost 100% of my CPU. It has stayed within the 70-100% range, and has yet to go down. I tried many things, including restarting my Mac many times, but it remains the same.
Does anyone know why "kernel_task" is taking up so much of my CPU? Is there a way to somehow "reset" the process to get it back to normal? Any help would be much appreciated, since my Mac is, for just about all purposes, useless right now. It took me about an hour just to get to this page and type this message.
    Thanks in advance!
P.S. I attached a screenshot of the process in the Activity Monitor. You can view it here: http://images12.fotki.com/v203/filejMEm/9ae47/8/1659168/8691947/kernel_task.png

I just want to add that I think the "kernel_task" might have started eating CPU when I stopped a RAR program in the middle of extracting an archive. I'm not 100% sure though that this is when the problem started.

  • I created an Apple ID for iTunes using a work email address and left that company before I had an opportunity to change the email and password for that account.  How do I change the email address to a new one that I can access?

I created an Apple ID for iTunes using a work email address and left that company before I had an opportunity to change the email and password for that same account.  Now I can't seem to login to that account and I can't choose the option for forgot password because it will send email to the old workplace.  How do I change the email address to a new one that I can access?

If you remeber the password to that Apple ID then follow these steps
1 - Make sure you have an email address that is NOT an Apple ID
    2 - Go to AppleID.Apple.com
3 - Where it reads Manage Apple ID - Sign in
Once you are signed in want to make sure the email address you are wanting to use is NOT set up as a "Recovery/Rescue" email for this account.
[To check this - Main page where you see Primary ID - below do you see the email address you want to use listed towards the bottom? Yes - Delete / No - Good ./. If made any adjustments "Save" Next on the left select "Password & Security" - Answer your security questions you set up "if you have any" then scroll towards the bottom and check to see if you see the email address you want to use. Yes - Delete / No - Good] <-> Also you can change your password on this page as well. Any adjustments made "Save"
Once this is done go back to the main page where you should read "Primary ID" and change the email address that is showing to the new email address youo want. "Save" Done
I learned this not to long ago and worked for me. Hope this helps you!

I recently got an Ipad 2 as well as an ipod touch.  I have 2 laptops at home that I have synced the devices with, one is running vista and the other XP.  Both of the computers are now running really slow and when I checked my CPU usage it is showing that mobile dvice manager is using around 50% of my CPU and it is constantly running in the background.  I am wondering of anyone has any suggestions on how to keep dvive manager from running when my Ipad is not even connected to the computer.

  • Skype using 100% of CPU and hard disk resources, c...

So, lately, I switched the hard drives in my computer to migrate from Windows XP and install Windows Vista to my machine, everything was going alright with my machine, until I decided to install Skype, as it's the main communications line with me and the internet, and I noticed it now takes up pretty much all of my CPU and hard disk resources when loading all of my contacts and messages after installation, but it finished loading them, and it still uses a high amount of my resources. Skype uses approximately 250MB of memory (Which is kind of high on a system like mine..), it maxes out the processor at around 95-100% utilization, and the hard drive light is on full, as I hear the read head spazzing out on the thing anyways. I was wondering, is this an issue with the latest version of Skype? I can't use older versions since Skype/Microsoft decommissioned them, and it won't even let me log in to them. Could someone possibly help me with this?
My machine specifications are as of follows if it has anything to do with the issue.:
    MSI MS-6741 K8MM-ILSR MicroATX Socket 754 Motherboard

  • Firefox is using up all my CPU thus slowing my computer: add-on? or malware?

My computer has slowed way down mostly because of Firefox. I suspect an add-on, malware, or corrupt file in Firefox. CPU usage is 90-100%.

I am experiencing the same issue when ever I add a Genera iTune Pinwheels and starts using up all of my system memory. I took my computer to the apple store and they found that I had a bad Ram module. I will see if the issue persist after the new ram module come in. I hope it will fix the issue if not I will have to try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. What software are you using to copy the DVD I wonder if it is the software we are using to get the DVD to the Mac.

  • AUDIODG.EXE hogging 80-100% of CPU and sound not working in Vista . . .

I posted this on a Microsoft Answers Forum but none of the techs or people reading have been able to help so far.  I'm dying to get to the bottom of this:
    Here is my computer:
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    2GB RAM
    XFX GEFORCE 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 DUAL DVI & TV OUT (PCI-E)
    200GB WD SATA HDD
500GB WD HDD in external enclosure via USB2
NEC ND-3520A 16X DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD Burner
    LG CD Burner
I've been using Vista Home Premium successfully for some time.  Recently, not too long after I did a clean wipe of my OS, my audio would stop working.  The way it would happen is that everything would work fine until I started iTunes or another audio application and when I would hit play, things would lock up.
Upon inspection of my system resources, I'm noticing that the audio platform for Vista, via the audiodg.exe, is using close to 100% of my CPU resources, even when the computer is making no sound at all.
I've had a Sound Blaster Live! card in my computer for some time but I was not using it; I use the Realtek AC'97 audio drivers that are on my motherboard instead.  I thought that the conflict may be the computer wanting to recognize my Sound Blaster, so I took it out of my computer but the problem seems to be worse.
Are there any BIOS setting that need to be adjusted for my sound to start working again?
I'm very reliant on the audio processing power of my computer (I'm in the radio industry, part-time) and this is a huge drag on my productivity.
Any tips would be much appreciated.
    REPLY #1:
Thank you for using Microsoft Answers forum.  I suggest going to the manufacture of your sound card and download the latest drivers and install them.
    MY RESPONSE:
Good suggestion.  The problem is this:
I am running on-board audio.  I have an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard which runs "Realtek ALC Series AC97 Audio Driver" and there is no version for Vista. They have a version for Windows 2K/XP and one for Windows XP 64bit.
Should I use on of those and if not, then what?
    UPDATE (from me):
I took a chance and found a Realtek AC'97 driver for Vista.
    http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Realtek-AC-97-Audio-Codec-Driver-Vista-6183-Beta-Download-18114.html
I went to install it and the install hung.  So, I closed one of the install windows and then the InstallShield app continued like it was working.  So, I hit "Restart my computer".  Well, the reboot hung too.  So, I reset the PC manually.
When the computer came back up, the sound worked.  Hard to tell if this will fix it for good but it's promising.  Chaotic.  Unpredictable.  Annoying.
    REPLY #2:
Before you tried updating drivers, did you try rebooting 1st?
I'm just trying to determine if rebooting your system is what resolved the issue - thank you
    UPDATE II (from me):
My computer is behaving the same way it was before.  AUDIODG.EXE taking up 80-100% of my CPU and the sound not working.
    Any other ideas?

Small update: Despite my intelligence, good looks and vast experience I use Google sometimes. To my surprise this file turns out to be a Windows one. Here is someone who is much happier, and since it is some way in my line of thinking I'll quote it, but you might take my previous advice as well:
    http://forums.techarena.in/windows-vista-performance/1012315.htm
"- Open up msconfig.exe > Manage startup programs.
    - Disable ALL Realtek entries
    - Close msconfig.exe
    - Right-click on the speaker icon > Audio devices > Speakers (properties)
    - Go to the enhancements tab
    - Check the box to disable all audio enhancements
    - Close the menu
    - Right-click on the speaker icon > Recording devices
    - Disable all your microphones (yeah..., the actual problem seems to come
    from voice inputs rendering..)
    - Close the menu
    - Restart your computer"

  • ITunes is hogging 100% of CPU. Tried "netsh winsock reset" fix already

I recently upgraded to 10.5 and iOS5. I had a similar problem to many in the community related to the sync getting stuck in the "back up" portion, so I tried the solution proposed by a bunch of people re: "netsh winsock reset" and I can now sync, but I still have the issue of iTunes and APSDaemon hogging nearly 100% of CPU. Anyone else having the same problem? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm having similar problems after the 10.5 upgrade on Vista. Tried the repair option in Control Panel, then uninstalled and did a fresh installation thinking it might have been due to the Apple upgrade installer but I'm still having the same problems. I've got 3gb of RAM but I can't even do something like writing an email at the same time as using iTunes without it beeping at me.

  • Firefox using most of my CPU and Memory on my Vista notebook

I have been working on this for almost a month now. I have changed settings in FF found in the settings using ""about commands used on this Forum. I did correct a memory leak with a patch from Microsoft that was accuring with SVSHOST.exe that was doing the same thing on a smaller scale. This is what happens, Before starting FF this is what the memory has in use 18%, and the 2.4 ghz CPU is using between 0 and 3% in short bursts. Next Exe FF and open up just one page at first. you will see that the CPU will jump up to 75% at first then settle back to about 18%. The memory is a different story however as it will start to climb higher and higher till about 10 minutes in the memory used by FF will keeps climbing until it stops at around 898,000 and the Page file starts to be accessed. This is 96% of the memory of this Notebook. I realize that my computer is older with its RAM being Maxed at only 1.26GB but FF's 898,724 of RAM is excessive.
I have been running FF on this computer for over 10 years now and this issue seems to get worse year by year. There seems to be a memory leak somewhere that causes this as there are no themes or addons installed. I have done a fresh install of Vista and reset FF several times and no change. I remember when I first switched to FF years ago, It was because IE was using too many resources and slowing down the computer. FF at that time was much leaner and more responsive at that time but now it seems like FF has become bloated as well.
After 15 minutes the top 3 memory users are FF @ 898,724. Next will be SVCHOST with 32,656 and then the Malware Engine at 8,920. I have tried the new FF beta version with the same results.
Oh, one more thing, when FF memory get to the top the screen will Grey out and a message appears an states Fire Fox is not responding and the HD never stops. It must be trying to access the page file I guess.
    I'm open to any suggestions.

Yes you are correct there is no noticeable change. There must be a simple reason for this. I have read many complaints on the web with the same issues and no remedy. I think my next step would be to replace FF with Chrome.
    Thanks for trying.
