ITunes Version 11.0.5 Home Sharing

iTunes version 11.0.5 can't find menu "items not in library" when trying to use home sharing.  Any pointers?

At this point, I think I'm going to skip any future Lion dot releases - since every single time something that was working stops working, and it takes weeks before there is a resolution or answer on how to address it.
Everything worked great until I updated my iMac to 11.0.5 - which was supposed to have bug fixes in it. But hey, new bugs!
restarted appletv
restarted network router
restarted iMac
turned home sharing off the back on on both appletv and iTunes
rebuilt my iTunes library
went through ever single step at "Troubleshooting Home Sharing" - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
still, "could not connect to library".
Infuriating.
And, as my 3 year old 27" iMac now also has a failing LCD - it's enough to make me reconsider all my choices to move to Macs and Appletv.

  • After installing Itunes 10.1.2.17, homes sharing doesn't work no more!

After i installed itunes 10.1.2.17, home sharing isn't working anymore. I checked to make sure it is turned on & the bonjour is enabled. What happened? It was working before with the previous version.

I see exactly the same symptoms; previously Home Sharing worked fine. After installing 10.1.2.17 on the PC that contains the main library, the library appears on my other XP and Windows 7 laptops, but on clicking on the library focus returns to the Music folder after several seconds.
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 running Windows XP Home Edition 5.1 build 2600. It is connected to a Linksys router by cable. The laptops are connected using WiFi. Nothing else has changed in the setup apart from the iTunes upgrade.
    Any ideas?

  • I SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, AND i CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HELP

I just bought my apple tv yesterday and SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, I CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HAPPEN. WHAT'S WRONG? WHAT SHALL I DO NOW?

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • ITunes 10.5.2.11 Home Sharing, 2 issues....

    First off, The Facts:
I am trying to transfer songs between 2 PC laptops, both updated with the latest iTunes version 10.5.2.11.
Both laptops have Home Sharing enabled, both are logged in to the same iTunes account, on the same wireless network, and both are authorized to access that ONE iTunes account.
Issue 1: I logged both computers onto my iTunes account, trying to move all the songs from my iTunes account on my old laptop (Windows Vista) onto the same iTunes account on my new laptop (Windows 7). The songs I have purchased on iTunes do show up on my new laptop, but I have about 400 songs that I imported onto my iTunes account from CD's, so I'm trying to get these songs transfered from the old computer to the new one. I have Home Sharing enabled, and on the new laptop, my full iTunes library from my old computer shows up as "Owner's Library" under the "Shared." tab on the left-hand side. I open "Owner's Library," and all the tracks do show up, I have "Show: Items NOT in my Library" selected, and all songs are check-marked. When I click "Import," however, it only imports ONE SONG at a time. I must click on each song and import it individualy. There HAS to be a way to simply import ALL of them at the same time, since they are all selected with check-marks.
Issue 2: On the iTunes on my new computer, I created "smart playlists" for each artist I have music for, and each is set up to automatically place songs from that artist into that playlist. When I do import songs from my old computer (which were imported onto my iTunes account from CD's I already owned), they already have the track, album and artist info, but they get loaded into the default "Recently Added" playlist, rather than going into the smart playlists I created for them to go into. How can I force the songs I'm transferring from my old laptop to automatically go into my pre-made smart playlists right when I import them onto my new laptop, via the "Home Sharing" feature?

I had the same problem, but with an earlier version of iTunes, but when I upgraded it the problem solved automatically

  • Itunes 11.1.1.11 home sharing doesnt work on Windows 7 - whats the latest work around??

Hi all, i know there is lots of stuff going around about this but the fixes i want to try dont work. I have changed to compatibility mode and restarted the computer and itunes and started home sharing to no avail. We have an ATV2, ATV3, ipad mini, Ipad 2, ipad3, 3 x iphone 4 and 1 x iphone 5 that all worked perfect before the latest round of updates. The ATV's, itunes and all the IOS devices have the latest versions and thats when it all stopped.
I dont want to delete every trace of itunes from the computer like some have suggested.
    Now What??
Thanks for anythin you can suggest.

Doing a bonjour repair using "uninstall program" on windows 7 resolved this for me, the AirPlay icon came back in iTunes and Home sharing showed up on my Apple Tv 3 again. :-)

  • Sync new versions of apps using Home Sharing?

I sync my iPad and iPhone off of my laptop, but keep a backup of my library on another computer using Home Sharing. This works great for almost everything I do, however it will only import an app that isn't in the library, it won't import updated versions of apps already in the library.
Is this a designed feature or a bug within iTunes? I keep my laptop's apps pretty up-to-date and would love to not see 47 apps wanting to be updated in my backup library the day after iOS4 comes out after I've already updated them on my main library.
    Clear as mud?

i have a similar setup and seeing the same thing. updating apps manually on each of my Macs.
have to live with it until further notice ...

  • Itunes 12.1.0.71 home sharing not working AGAIN

I have been using itunes for home sharing for YEARS.  I know my windows firewall is set correctly with ports TCP and UDP port 3689 open and verified that nothing has changed but I still cannot home share to either of my Apple TV boxes. Both version 3 apple TV and previously had no issues.   I can still access netflix and anything else from both Apple TV boxes so they aren't having an network issue.  Some time back I had issues and had to turn off all security on my wireless router as the encryption seemed to cause a problem and that has had the home sharing working for months now but now its back down again.  I love it when it works but it is the pickiest application I have ever seen.   I have of course rebooted the computer hosting the itunes as well as the Apple TV and I have patiently tried everything for the last couple days but the thing is STILL down.  If any Apple Tech knows what is going on let me know.

    Same issues
Apple TV Ver2 with current update, running Win 7 Pro.
    Probably a bug.

  • In ITunes when I'm using home sharing if I play the songs on another computer it cuts the songs off maybe 10 seconds plus from the end why is it doing this?

So I have ITunes Home Sharing on my desktop computer on.  When I go to another computer and play the songs from the Home Share computer the songs get cut off maybe 10 seconds + at the end of the song.  In other words it will not play the last 10 seconds of the song sometimes it's last 5 seconds sometimes its the last 15 seconds it seems to vary.  I can't really find a pattern on the timing but I just don't understand why this is happening please help!

Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

  • Moving iTunes library in preparation for Home Sharing

I have an iMac which currently hosts my iTunes library and am buying a Mac Mini with an external drive which will act as file server.
I want to move my iTunes library from my iMac to the Mac Mini and then share it out via Home Sharing.
What is the best way I go about this?
Do I manually copy my iTunes library over? Or enable Home Sharing first on the Mac Mini and then copy over my library?
    Any advice is appreciated!

    inforr wrote:

    that's what i would do.
    i would:
    1) connect both Macs with a firewire cable and boot the iMac in _*Target Disk Mode*_.
    2) copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from the iMac to the corresponding location on the mini (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there)
when launching iTunes on the mini for the first time, you should be presented with the library you were used to from the iMac.

  • Can I share itunes library with iOS, without Home Sharing?

    Hi All,
I have shared my library with my local network via preferences > sharing on my macbook. However, cannot see the shared library in my iOS device music app. Is it possible to access a shared library without having to set up Home Sharing? Perhaps a third party app can do it?
    Cheers,
    Sam

itunes has two different ways of sharing music
    1) clicking on file , home sharing and turning on home sharing, and entering your apple id. this is required for iphone, ipods and ios devices you are only allowed to share to 5 computers this way. this allows you to import songs to your itunes client  from your itunes server. and each compuer needs to be logged into your itunes account
    2) clicking on itunes, preferences, clicking on share tab, and cicking on "share my library on my local nework " this will not allow itunes libraries to be shared with ipods, iphones or ios devices. itunes cleints will not be alllowed to important songs from your itunes server. however itunes clients do not have to be logged into apple at all. they don't even need to be authorized to play music. they will prompt for your itunes account if you try and play a song that has DRM, but if the music has no DRM they will play fine
your only allowed 5 computers associated with an apple id. upgrading your music collection to itunes plus or using itunes match #2 might be able to save your precious itunes computer slots
i have them both turned on

  • HT4352 problem sharing iTunes with new Apple TV.(model MD199LL/A. I have iTunes and Apple TV set up with same address and passwords, enabled iTunes and Apple TV for home sharing and still nothing? I have latest iTunes and Apple TV update. Any other sugges

Have a problem with Home Sharing with Apple TV and iTunes. Have latest iTunes and Apple TV downloads. Have both items set up for home sharing with same address and passwords. AppleTV running fine for everything else. FYI, my library is about 60gigs. AppleTV model is MD199LL/A if that matters. Really want to hear my entire music library and not just Purchased items. Thanks for any help!!!

I have an older PC with Windows XP Professional on it. I updated to the latest iTunes and I am able to access the photos, etc. on it. However, my Windows 7 PC still does work (since last Apple TV update). Apple TV does not recognize that Home Sharing is turned here. The latter PC has all my current photos on it which I would like share with others on my Apple TV. A fix would be appreciated.

  • WinXP and iTunes 10.5.1.42 Home Sharing problem

    The setup is
    WinXP SP3 patched
    iTunes 10.5.1.42 installed and reinstalled
    2 iPhone 4S firmware 5.0.1
    1 iPhone 4 firmware 5.0
All the devices and ITunes share the same Apple ID, ITunes Edit->Prefs->Sharing->Share My Library turned on, Advanced->Turn On Home Sharing is ON
I tried restarting all the devices, restarting the router, deauthorizing, using a different Apple ID, all to no avail. When I am setting up Home Sharing the SHARING title appears in the left pane, and under it Home Sharing. As soon as I press Done, it dissapears?!
On all 3 iPhones everything is set OK, but when one enters the Music APP, and presses more, there is no SHARING in the list, like there should be?!
And yes, the firewall is off, and everything else works GREAT?!
I am all out of ideas
Thanks for any input - I am a new convert from Android, and I must admit I was expecting more robusness from Apple
    Domi
P.S. I suspect it is the ITunes windows application problem. I am hoping everything will start working if the phones find the actual sharing resource on the local network

More findings, maybe related. Tried to pair my iPhone Remote app both with my WinXP Desktop and Laptop ITunes, and it does not work through Home Sharing not by using the code to connect.
The ITunes windows application says remote paired, it sees my device and accepts the code, but the iPhone Remote app says could not find the library
Isn't this stuff just supposed to work?
