ITunes video purchases corrupting my ITunes Library

Got a season pass for this season of "Mad Men" - but thus far two of the downloads have corrupted my LIbrary and seem to be lost for good (along with the other episodes that were in the Library).
In both instances, when ITunes crashed, this alert message came up on the screen: +"The file "iTunes Library" does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged)"."+ - but when I look for these supposed files on my computer they are nowhere to be found.
Now - I am pretty new to the ITunes store - I've imported some music from other sources over the years and never had this kind of problem so am wondering: do people just EXPECT Itunes to crash and so back things up a LOT? My computer is pretty old and does not have that much storage space - do I have to back up each one of these TV episodes from ITunes just to be sure I'm not going to have to re-purchase them from the ITunes store?
Do people have any other suggestions about keeping these videos from corrupting my Library files?

Fortunately for me, the folks at ITunes restored the lost episodes to me - but I would still like to know if anyone has any words of wisdom about what I can do to prevent this from happening in the future.

Historically, I have my own laptop and my 8 year old daughter has a laptop as well. I also have an iPad and iPhone. In the past, I have managed all devices with the same apple ID, and used my laptop as the main library, storing all music, apps, video, etc. I then just selectively copied things to the other authorized devices, so my daughter's laptop has a copy of her music under my apple ID. Now she has her own iPod touch, so I would live to move her music and apps to her own iTunes library with a name I create for her on her laptop and iPod.
Is this possible without having to repurchase all of her media?

ITUNES Video purchase

I purchased 3 videos from the Itunes store. 1 will load or sync to my IPOD 5th gen but the other 3 will not. When I click on the file and get information I see it is protected. that is the only difference I see between the files. How can I get these files to sync to my IPOD. I have read the FAQ related to this subject but i only have 3 IPODS so this should not be a issue.
Can some one tell me what is wrong?

Videos purchased from the iTunes Store have FairPlay digital rights management embedded in the files and are in a format that can be readily synced to a video capable iPod. Just like with music you purchase from the iTunes Store, you own the videos you purchase. You can authorize up to five computers to play purchased videos, and you can sync the video to as many iPods as you like. An iPod can contain purchased content from up to five accounts; iTunes will not allow you to add data from a sixth account to iPod.

Take a look here for some tips on how to look for the missing episode.
If you can't find it, iTunes Store Customer Service (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find a button to send e-mail to them) and explaining what happened.

I have somewhat of a similar problem. After iTunes last update, I am missing some of my purchased files of music,ringtones, and TV shows. Possibly movies, but just thought of that and did not look yet. Seems everytime there is an iTunes update, something happens, but usually an easy fix by just deleting music files from CD's that I loaded onto iTunes and no longer recognized after an update and reload from the hard drive. This time I do not have a current back up of all the music, ringtones, and tv shows I have purchased.
So I am also wondering how can I redownload purchases without being charged when there is no file left on the hard drive. It just stays listed in iTunes though.

Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Missing video purchase tab in itunes. Please help

On both my ipad mini and netbook, in itunes i have no video tab in the purchased section. The purchased section only shows the music i have bought and none of my movies (on both devices). On my ipad mini despite having the "show purchased videos" setting being activated in settings, itunes also only shows purchased music and there isnt even a movie tab in the purchased section. Please help.

ITunes Store Purchase Corrupted my iPods!

Help! Last night, I purchased a new album (Ben Folds) from iTunes store and loaded it on my 2G and 5G. Last night, I played my 5G and it kept rebooting in the middle of the album. I thought the iPod was defective until I tried to play my 2G this morning and it did the same thing! At first other albums were not affected but now both iPods have frozen up and won't play. After rebooting my 5G this morning, all songs are gone! I noticed both iPods were very noisy (scratchy) when reading the drives. I have decided not to touch the 2G until I can find out what is going on. Has anyone else seen this issue before? Has anyone downloaded the new Ben Folds album (deluxe edition) with no problems?

Yesterday I purchased Kellie Pickler's new deluxe album and the same thing kept happening. every other song the iPod will freeze and then reboot itself but luckily it didn't damage the iPod. Other albums I tested they all seem to play fine. I e-mailed iTunes waiting for a reply. I purchased many albums off iTunes never a problem. Strange coincidence, I wonder how many others are experiencing any similar situations.

ITunes songs purchased, not on iTunes anymore?

Well after about an hour looking for an iTunes / apple support email I have given up... So about a month ago I purchased the album 'JPN'by Japanese artist group Perfume. I went onto iTunes today an they are nowhere to be found(on the market)the albums are currently still on my iTunes list. Hrd Drive Full- Archive iTunes Videos to DVD?

My daughter has filled up her laptop's hard drive. The big culprits are movies and TV shows purchased from iTunes. Is there a way that these files can be taken off her hard drive and archived to a DVD? She's not watching the files now and is OK if they come off her iPod, but doesn't want to erase something she paid for in case she might want them at some later date.
Is this possible? If so can someone point me to directions on how to archive these to DVD and how to restore to the hard drive at a later date?

Hi L Powow- thanks for responding to my question. That's not quite what I had in mind. I don't want to back up the entire library, I only want to back up select iTunes video purchases for archival purposes.
I would like to remove the iTunes video purchases from the iTunes library on the computer's hard drive, because they take up too much space and they are not being currently used on the iPod.
I want to know how I can back-up only purchased videos to DVD, so that if I remove them from the library on the PC's hard drive and if, at a future date, there is a requirement to load the videos back onto to the iTunes library, I will be able to restore the videos from a DVD to the iTunes library on the PC hard drive.
Any suggestions on a backup and restore procedure to do this? Thanks.

Issues Transferring Video Purchased on iTunes to My Video iPod..Help!

Just bought a new 60 BG Video iPod. I purchased a few videos from iTunes. However, when I connect my iPod to iTunes, only my music is transferred. The videos are not transferred. When I try to transfer the video to my iPod, I get the following messages...
'Update not possible. Error Message -50.'
'The disk could not be read from or written to.'

There is no legal way to play videos purchased from the iTunes Store on an Archos player. They can be played on your computer or on an iPod with video.

How can I get films purchased from the iTunes store to work on my new iPod classic?

I have recently purchased a new iPod classic, everything works accept it will not play films. At first I thought it was a problem with the films I was trying to put on as they were from my computer; but after purchasing some films from iTunes it still keeps saying that they cannot be played on this device. Please help as I have spent money on films I otherwise cannot watch.
Any advice is welcome.

It sounds like you might be trying to sync HD videos to your iPod classic.
HD videos purchased from the iTunes Store are compatible with iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), Apple TV, and computers. You may need to download your purchased video from iTunes in the Cloud in a lower resolution for your device.
You'll want to check out the following article to resolve the issue, specifically the "Download previously purchased content in a lower resolution" section:

Synced new ipod to itunes, now missing all but itunes store purchased music that is already on my phone

Synced our new ipod nano today to itunes. I don't know what happened but now all but itunes store purchases are in the library, my playlist is gone as well as all the music I had downloaded from my CD's. The iphone 5 still has everything on it but not on my computer. Frustrating!! Now I'm scared to sync my phone, thinking I may lose all of my library off there as well. How do I get my library back on to my computer so I can transfer that music to my ipod?

Look into iTunes Match, a service from Apple that uploads your music in itunes to the cloud (not icloud) so you can download it to other devices.
