"iTunes was not properly installed. if you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes."

I have recieved this messaged after uninstalling and reinstalling itunes 3 times.
I have rebooted my laptop over 100 times playing with all the things i needed to do.
Here is a list of things I have done... NONE solved the problem of me burning CDS.
I had ZERO problems burning cds, I did it regularly, but since i dl the new itunes, it totally messed up everything.
I cannot even burn on Windows Media player however when I check in Admin control panel it states the device is working properly.
I have....
...done this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3299 ALL OF IT! including taking away upper filters, adding GEAR filters, REMOVING ALL Gear documentation and then reinstalling it.
...done every single option that is here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372 ...
( I apologize if I am repeating myself. I've been at this for 5 hours straight)
.....done http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=DRIVERS:_Windows_-_Updating%2C_ removing%2C_64_bit_versions%2C_etc
...done... I cant remember what else but I've probably done it all...

Thank you in advance for your help!!!!!

I had a very similar problem, error 4251.  (look in your log you will see that error)  Since I finally fixed my problem, I thought I would see if I can help someone else.
What I found is that I lost burn ability in both iTunes AND Windows.  Like you did.  I did some digging and found that this wasn't hardware related at all.  In fact, this boils down to a registry key getting messed up.  (sigh) Yeah.  It causes the system to get a bad 'handle'.
OK, here's what to try.  Go to this Microsoft KB article.  Scroll down and find the *manual* instructions for Vista.  Delete the registry key that it specifies.  Reboot. Now verify that you can burn in Windows.  (If you have a RW disc, do a disc erase, or just try and burn from Windows Media Player.)  If that is working now,  you're on the right track.
Now the issue is that iTunes will still be broken.  Go and install the latest Gear driver.  (I know you may have done it, but do it again.)  Now follow the intructions in this Apple KB article to verify the "GEARAspiWDM" info is back there in the registry.  Now reboot.  Try and burn in iTunes.
I hope this helps.

  • TS3299 iTunes was not properly installed.  If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes

I've installed iTunes 10.6 on my Windows 7 machine.  Everytime I start it I get this message:  iTunes was not properly installed.  If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes.
    Reinstalling iTunes made no difference.
So I found this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3299  and updated the registry like it said and it still didn't work but it also had the effect of making my CD drive no longer work for anything, including playing movies.   Before following those instructions I could read and write cds using Windows Media player.  Fortunately, I had backed up my registry leaf and restored it.
So I've been trying to figure out how to burn a cd from iTunes for close to two months now with no luck.  Does anybody know how to get rid of the above error message?
    Thank you!

iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall iTunes.
Can anyone please help me with this issue? I have an iPhone so its annoying that I can't use my DVD or burner when I download iTunes to keep it in sync and updated.

    Hi,
This is actually my 4th time installing and uninstalling iTunes. I had it uninstalled for the past 3 months so I could use my DVD player but I needed to get my iPhone updated so I had to install it back. I searched for similar problems and it looks like it could be something having to do with Vista not aligning with iTunes properly but still haven't found a solution.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

  • ITunes was not installed properly.  If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes

With Windows 7 I have completely deleted anything that was associated with Apple, Help, Support, you name it.  It was verified nothing Apple.  Reboot took place.  I reinstalled iTunes per instructions and once again I got the following:
iTunes was not properlyinstalled.  If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes.
    Oviously something is amiss.

Having finally found a post to the same situation, I ran diagnostics and believe I have the same problem as this post.  Here is the diagnostic report:

I have installed iTunes on my new Windows 8 laptop and I get the "iTunes is not installed properly.  If you wish to Import or burn CDs you need to reinstall  iTunes."
I have worked with Dell technicians and we have re-installed iTunes numerous times.  We modified the Registry by adding the Upper Filters key and we removed the CD player in Device Manager and allowed it to be automatically reinstalled by the computer.  All of this failed.
    Please help!

    Hello ,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand you've already uninstalled iTunes previously to troubleshoot this issue but make sure to follow the steps in the following article to remove iTunes and all of its components in the specific order listed.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Hi, I would be greatly appreciated if anyone could assit me.
I have tried loading ITunes several times, each time I'm getting the same message :Warning iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish too import or burn CD's, you need to reinstall iTunes"
Additionally, the same error message appears despite having made changes to the registry editor.
    Thanks
    Timmzee

    Hey there Timmzee,
I would suggest that you reinstall iTunes as a first step for troubleshooting this issue, keeping in mind that iTunes and related components must be uninstalled in this specific order:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
If you are still having issues with your iTunes installation after uninstalling iTunes in the correct order, use this article for further troubleshooting steps:

if you can't import or burn CDs I am not sure it affects your iPhone syncing but there may be other things missing as well.
To reinstall the itunes download from here and run the installer it should not affect your music. Whenever I see the word should I always think what if? So make a backup copy of your music and content just in case.
