  • Itunes will not close, it just pops right back up!

Win 7 64 bit, new install and updated. Installed Itunes but it will not close down.

Do you have Logitech Gaming Software installed?  If so, uninstall it and see if this resolves the issue.

  • Itunes will not close down,

My i tunes will not close down even using force quit, anybody got any ideas please.

Go to Activity Monitor, search for "itunes," and quit every process related to iTunes.

  • ITUNES WILL NOT CLOSE, WILL NOT CONNECT SONGS, why, god, why

It just won't close. every time i exit it pops itself open a few seconds later. i told it to get rid of the icon in the system tray, that won't help either. why will it not just exit?
in related news, my ipod won't connect anymore. the computer gets as far as recognizing that there's hardware attached, but itunes will then freeze and not do anything and i have to unplug the ipod to get my computer working again.
    somebody help!

If anyone else can't play songs from their device in iTunes, try steps below which solved my problem:
Be sure your device is selected.
Right Click anywhere on Contents screen.
Select "Reset Plays" your selected song(s) should begin playing.
The "Pause, Play etc" buttons are no longer greyed out.

  • ITunes will not close!  possible scripting issue

i'm coming across this situation almost daily, iTunes will refuse to close when i hit the close button or go File -> Exit. sometimes i will get a prompt that iTunes is scripting but usually it just doesn't respond to either methods of closing. obviously i can just go into Task Manager and force it to quit, but i shouldn't have to do that.
any reason why this is happening?

Some script is using the itunes COM interface.
There are any number of things you could have DL'ed from the internet that would do this. You'd have to tell us!

  • My iTunes will not close, in order for it to close i must shut down or restart my computer, what is wrong with it? and my other question is my iTunes will back-up for one second and then freeze, and even when i disconnect my iPod from my computer it conti

it continues to say it is backign up, even though their is nothing to back up! I even downloaded and updated my ipod and itunes, and even restored my ipod, it wont let me add any music since it wont allow me to sync it. PLEASE! I NEED HELP!

Do you have Logitech gaming software installed on the PC? If so, perhaps try the suggestion from the following post:
Re: Everytime I close Itunes it loads back up

  • ITunes Will Not Close When I Click The Red "X".

I then have to go to "Task Manager" and then "Processes" then manually end the process of iTunes. This is a very frequent problem, please fix soon. I have had many versions of iTunes and they had the same problem, right now I am on the latest update of 10.4.0.80.

Hmm, log isn't much help is it
Can you confirm what you mean by a factory reset?
Some other users have had corrupt apps, that were fixed by re-installing the OS over the top.
I was planning on getting you to reinstall the OS, it can be done without overwriting the files you have installed, it will work like an 'upgrade'.
The default installer option is 'reinstall OS X' this means your user data & 3rd party application data should remain in place. However if you have nothing of interest on the Mac a clean install would be OK too.
I wouldn't attempt a re-install without backing up in case anything goes wrong, obviously a clean install removes all your data.
It is worth getting connected via a wired connection (ethernet) if at all possible. If the installer needs to be downloaded it can take a long time on wifi & can fail if the wifi is poor. An alternative is to create a bootable USB installer, ask if you want to do that, it's fairly simple.
To 'clean install' you boot into recovery mode (hold 'cmd+R' at boot)
Select Disk Utility from the options
Select your main 'volume' in the list on the left, below the disk icon. It will be called Macintosh HD (or whatever the disk is named).
Select the erase tab & erase it.
    Quit Disk Utility
Open the 're-install Mac OS X' item & install onto the volume you just erased.

  • Itunes will not open- "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"

My iTunes will not open anymore, giving me the error message: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times, and with different versions. Nothing I do seems to work. I have even copied the program files from a friend whose iTunes does work, hoping that would fix it, but to no avail. Has anyone discovered a way to fix this problem. I have a friend who has the same problem, but hasn't been able to fix it either.

What happens when you go into control panel, click on the Quick Tunes config icon, and then select the audio tab? If you get an error, Quick Time is corrupted. Also double check your sound card drivers. Can you play any sound at all? Does Windows Media Player function? What is you anti virus software?

  • Itunes volume frozen at zero and will not close

hello, the volume slider in itunes intermittently gets frozen at zero. i can drag it to the right but as soon as i release the slider it snaps back to zero [all the way down]. when this happens itunes will not shut down, it closes and then reopens immeadiately, even if i chose to 'force close' it reopens. if i try to restart my mac itunes cancels the process. the only way to resolve, so far is to do a hard shutdown by hand. itunes will work for awile but eventually returns to this condition.
    thanks for any ideas,
    js

I copied this from https://discussions.apple.com/message/23501949#23501949.   It fixed my problem.
    Couple of things ...
While the iPhone is actually syncing, you see something like this:
       (note the spinning "syncing" wheel)
You'll notice when it's done, it seems to be hanging and you get something like this - indefinitely:
But, if you look again, you'll see the "eject" button has replaced the "syncing wheel":
So, at this point, just eject it and you're fine -- really.
And, if you don't trust that, then do this:
Go to the Music tab of iTunes and add or remove just one song or one artist or one playlist.
Then, click the Apply button in the lower right corner.
You will notice that THIS way the Sync Process finishes cleanly.
    Hope this helps!!

  • ITunes will uses 100% cpu and will not close in OSX Lion

When I start up iTunes, after a few minutes, the fan kicks on and Activity Monitor shows that it is using 100% CPU. The fan kicks up and the MBP gets warm. I have to force close to get it to shut down. iTunes match is constantly running, so maybe that has something to do with it?
I'm not running it in Mini Player mode or anything like that, so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. Any thoughts on how to diagnose it?

I also have this problem which has been getting worse with recent successive updates of Firefox. As a long-time user and advocate, I am about ready to look for an alternative browser. Firefox will not close and exit properly, requiring direct cancellation through Task Manager; starts up very slowly (often 1 to 2 minutes); and frequently locks up the CPU with 100% of cycles while doing NOTHING; offers to restart crashed sessions, but cannot recover and reload those sessions; will not operate correctly while any other application accesses the internet, like uTorrent. Firefox is set to delete cookies, etc. whenever the session closes, sqlite database is vacuumed regularly, CCleaner regularly wipes remaining accretions, and disk is defragged. Currently running 3.5.5 but will NOT upgrade until this problem is solved since later builds report the same problems. I know several other users who have experienced the same problem and I can no longer automatically recommend Firefox to users and clients. Is anybody paying any attention to this problem? What is being done to address this fault? Why is there no response to the original poster? Is this really a support forum or just a way to preoccupy and distract the users who suffer this malfunction? Wireless 54Mbps connection. No Adobe Flash, QuickTime, MS Silverlight, etc. installed on this machine. Firefox 3.5.5 with the following add-ons:
    Aardvark 3.0
    Adblock Plus 1.2.1
Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper 1.0.6
    Free Download Manager plugin 1.3.4
    Highlighter 0.1.4
    MR Tech Toolkit 6.0.4
    repagination 2006.4.5.1
    Save Complete 1.0.1
    Session Manager 0.6.8.3
    Tab Mix Plus 0.3.8.4
    Unhide Passwords 1.2.5.1
    User Agent Switcher 0.7.2
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  • Itunes library will not close down all the way

My iTunes library will not close down all the way.  When I close the library I am unable to log back in or turn my computer off because itunes is still running although I x'd it out.

You're right, you shouldn't have to do that.
Well, you didn't say whether you've tried uninstalling & reinstalling itunes. Make sure it's installed with an admin user account. Then go into the WIndows Event Viewer and see if there are any error messages about any of the itunes processes in the installation package. That could give us a clue of what's going wrong.
Another thing that could be causing the problem is the "apple push" part of itunes, APSDaemon.exe. Read wiclee's post here about it.

  • ITunes will not shut off. Since I upgraded the software, itunes opens no matter what program I am using and when I close it , it will just reopen over whatever I am using.  this is very annoying!!!!

iTunes will not shut off.  Since I upgraded my software, itunes opens no matter what program I am trying to use.  If I close it it automatically opens moments later and interferes with what I am working on. This is so annoying

This is probably occuring because your Mac is attempting to wirelessly sync with a device. Try unchecking the checkbox that reads "Open iTunes when device is connected" (this option can be found under the general page of iTunes when you have a device connected).

  • After doing a widows update itunes will not work at all

after doing a widows update itunes will not work at all

    hiya!
I get the itunes has encounterd a problem and needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience error, no specific error number. I do not have QT installed,
not having QT installed is what will be causing your itunes error message at the moment. let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 install.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
    love, b

  • Itunes will not launch at all

For a few weeks I've been having a problem with iTunes taking a long time to open, and sometimes not opening when I plug in the phone.  Last week I realized  just stopped opening at all - even by double clicking on the itunes exe file in Control Panel.   When I plug in my iPhone 4S to the USB, iTunes also does not open, but I can see the phone in Windows Explorer.  I'm running Windows 7 32-bit on a Dell laptop, and iTunes is 10.6.3.25.  I do not use wifi to synch the phone.
I searched online and at first thought it was due to a Google Chrome flash plug-in problem because Chrome had started failing to load some pages and sometimes iTunes would eventually open if Chrome was restarted.   I reinstalled Chrome, and finally just uninstalled Google Chrome, but that's made no difference.  I uninstalled Bonjour as some folks had problems from that.
I have already tried to identify if some service is trying to run by looking at the msconfig and trying to turn off things on the Startup and turn off Services, but even with everything but Windows services turned off, iTunes still will not ever open.
I've uninstalled and re-installed iTunes and Quicktime at least 5 times over the last few days.  I used revouninstaller to do the last two un-installs as a friend said it cleans more thoroughly.   I just read here to try renaming the APSDaemon so it won't run, and just did that change, but after rebooting still no luck.  Quicktime will run, but it takes about 1-2 minutes before it opens after double-clicking on it.
At this point I don't know what else to try.  All suggestions greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks.  I read that link before posting here but I wasn't able to do the first part because iTunes will not ever open for me to start it in Safe mode.
Since I posted yesterday, "something" I did must have worked (but I don't know what exactly because I think I didn't do anything).  But iTunes just randomly appeared on the system tray yesterday afternoon.  It wouldn't open by clicking on it, so I tried to Ctl-Alt-Del to close it, thinking I'd at least get some errors to view in the log, but then about a half hour after  I had tried to close it through Ctl-Alt-Del, it actually opened.  It still doesn't recognize my iPhone 4S though.  If I get that to start working I'll update again.

  • My Itunes will not stay open, I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it still won't stay open

My Itunes will not stay open. Everytime I open it it just gives me a wait signal and then closes down on it's own. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it still won't stay open.... what should I do now?

Try removing the Genius database.  In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
