Itunes won't launch on windows xp...why?

Itunes is downloaded on my pc, but when i click on the desktop icon nothing happens. I realized that a lot of people are having the same problem, does anyone know how to correct this problem....my ipod nano is useless unless itunes opens.

I get the error message "itunes.exe has caused errors in windows. Error log created. Windows will now close." I've tried fixing iTunes using the "repair" option in itunes.exe, uninstalling and reinstalling both QuickTime and iTunes, and am now out of options.

    Recently bought a new laptop which came with Windows 8. I cannot get iTunes 11 to launch in Windows 8. Whenever I launch it, I simply get a completely white screen and Windows Task Manager reports it as "Not Responding." I have attempted to "Repair" the installation, uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes multiple times (I've also tried running Apple Software Update as well).
    On a somewhat related note, Quicktime won't launch either. I can double-click the icon on the desktop as much as I want, but the program simply won't launch, at all. Windows Task Manager doesn't even display it as an active process.

    If you are still having this problem, Sony Singh posted this fix in another conversation, and it worked!  I have the same Windows 8.1 and iTunes version you have and had the same problem.  This totally fixed it.
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    Simple, huh?  Just reboot after youo copy and paste the above file.

    itunes used to work fine under Windows 7. Recently it stopped responding. It won't launch. I can see that the processes are running, in Task Manager. But iTunes never opens.
    I have tried a dozen ideas from hardware review forums and I have done all that the Apple site suggests here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717.
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 64 bit  and Quicktime and removed and re-installed the Apple Application Support.
    Nothing so far has changed anything.

    In recent times, the error-message-free iTunes and QuickTime launch failures have been indicating that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
    So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
    First we'll need to change some view settings.
    In your Start menu, open Computer.
    In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
    In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
    Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
    What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

    I just re-booted my PC and now the iTunes app won't launch. It says iTunes was installed incorrectly but it's been working for YEARS. Before I rebooted, the window popped up to update iTunes but I figured I'd do it after the re-boot. I have over 2000 songs plus movies, etc. in iTunes.  And, because it is a PC, there is no Apple Support.  Any suggestions?

    If all your songs and/or movies are saved on your PC, you shouldn't lose anything if you update or uninstall & reinstall iTunes.
    Try to update your iTunes, if you're really worried about losing your songs and/or movies, you can place them on a USB flash drive or External Hard Drive or save them on a Cloud Drive (ei. Google Drive, SkyDrive, etc...)

    Feel like I must be doing something fundamentally wrong. Have downloaded itunes from website (plus de-installed and reinstalled several times), but itunes won't open when icon is clicked. It doesn't open from start menu either. Waiting to load up daughter's new ipod 30Gb with video, but cannot get past first base.

    I have never installed any of the problem codec packs so I don't know what they look like. Usually people install them intentionally and know what the look like.
    Have a good look around in Start>>All Programs to see if you can see anything that looks like them. If you find one ther should be an uninstall facility.

    Anyway if you can't find anything this is how you do the cleanup and reinstall, it's probably worth a go if can't find anything, but if you do have an incompatible codec, it won't work.
    He is the list of known problem codecs again:
    ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter
    You can Google the names to see if that rings any bells.
    Reinstalling Quicktime:
    Download the stand alone Quicktime:

    I have in the last few days downloaded itunes 7.5 for my ipod classic 80 gb. When i click the icon to bring itunes to screen I get an error message 'iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience' the Error signature reads 'AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.5.0.20 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000b7a4.' This message also appear when I click the Quicktime icon aswell.

    I upgraded to an HP Win8 box a few weeks ago. At the time, iTunes10 worked fine. Then it wouldn't launch - error with file dsennh.dll. I tried uninstalling, dowloading clean version of 11, & re-installing, but I am still getting the error message and cannot launch iTunes from anywhere. Please help!

    If Jason's post hasn't helped then for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

    iTunes no longer starts on my Windows 7 box.
    It will start in "safe" mode, ie if I cntrl-shift click on iTunes, it will start.
    Quicktime is not installed.
    The directory:
    C:\Users\username\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins\
    is empty.
    The directory:
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\Plug-ins
    is non existent.
    I've uninstalled iTunes and re-installed iTunes.
    iTunes.exe does show up briefly in task manager.
    I really don't want to use "safe" mode  because it also seems to be running
    as administrator.
    Any clues?

    If I connect my iPod (set to Disk Use, no auto-launch of iTunes), then eject it through the Finder, iTunes won't launch. It hangs with no window until force quit or the iPod is unplugged. I've noticed this through several versions of iTunes.

    Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
    Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
    If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

    Seems like i have the same problem as a lot of people.
    Since last update itunes won't launch
    Just get a white screen and the blue circle going around the pointer.
    Have tried the complete unistalll and reinstall without success
    One thing i noticed is that when it freezes and i open task manager to close it down it says 32 bit next to itunes not 64 bit?
    Is the wrong version being downloaded?

    I just downloaded the new iTunes upgrade onto my Macbook, and now iTunes won't launch. It just bounces once and then does nothing.     Get rid of Norton's, it's far more trouble than it's worth. This is exactly the kind of thing that happens when you run Disk Doctor or the other parts of the suite, and is why they got out of the Utilities market for the Mac.
    1. Try repair Permissions with Disk Utility
    2. Try Trash the com.apple.iTunes.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder
    3. Try Re-install iTunes. Move the app from the Applications Folder to the Trash, then go to HD / Library / Receipts and trash any pkg file there with iTunes in the name.
