Itunes won't start & Freezes Windows Vista - Please Please Help!!

Hey Guys,
Ever since I've upgraded to Itunes 10.1.2, my itunes won't even open. I click the icon on my desktop, I get the swirly circle for a bit, and then it stops. In the task manager, itunes.exe is listed as one of the processes, but doesn't seem to be running. I've tried EVERY solution I could find in these forums. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes about 6 times now, and I've even tried older versions. But nothing works. I've ran malware software, disabled my antivirus, and even tried to get the guys at the genius bar to help me (unfortunately they're not as well versed in PCs).
If you have any clues as to what may be going on - PLEASE Please Help me!! I'm a huge music buff, and it's been a MONTH since I last used itunes, and I would really love to have it back!
I will say this - occasionally after I reinstall itunes, a window that shows "checking music library" will pop up, but I'll wait for 45 minutes, and nothing will happen. I thought it might have to do with the fact that I have a good 100 GB of music on my external hd, but everything worked fine before.
Thank you all so SO much for your help, any input is greatly appreciated!

Really? Can no one help me?!

  • ITunes won't start in Windows

I've used ITunes for many years. Just upgraded to 8 and suddenly ITunes won't open. It throws the error message "the Itunes Library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location is in the ITUNES folder in the My Music folder.
The Library file was there, but it was "changed". I tried to delete that file and replace it with a backup library file in the same directory but that didn't work. I've tried to "repair" the installation and that didn't work. I've tried to remove the app and reinstall. All produce the same error message.

  • ITunes won't play in Windows Vista

I'm helping a friend with the iTunes on her Windows Vista computer and her problem is that whenever she tries to play ANY song in iTunes, it will not play (the time in the song stays at 0:00, and most of the time iTunes freezes. I have tried:
    Running iTunes as an Administrator
Running iTunes in Windows XP SP2 mode
Upgrading to latest verion of iTunes
Uninstalling iTunes, restarting, and installing the latest version of iTunes
None of these troubleshooting steps have worked, what should I try next?
    Thanks!
I'm glad stuff like this doesn't happen on my Mac

tried that...comes up telling me it needs to sync and that there isn't enough room.

  • ITunes Won't Install On Windows Vista

    Hi,
About a year ago, I had iTunes on my Windows Vista 32-bit SP2 computer and then I switched to Mac, so I uninstalled iTunes on my Windows Vista computer thinking I wouldn't need it anymore.
Now I want to install iTunes again on it but, I keep getting this error message: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
At this point I really don't know what to do.
    Thanks.

  • ITunes won't start on Windows 7 after update

Last night I had the misfortune of succumbing to iTunes' suggestion to update. Afterwards it failed to start without a single error message. A forum here suggested to update the quicktime player as well, did that. QT player works fine but iTunes still won't start. The exe appears in the processes list but does nothing. HELP!!!!

Did you try and update through itunes or download the installer from the apple website?
I've read some where its better to just download the stand alone installer from apple and
    do it that way.

  • ITunes won't install on Windows Vista? 32 bit

I have Windows Vista (the 32 bit) and after I got an iPhone I tried to sync it to my iTunes. But it said I needed a later version of iTunes (I had version 9.something). So after I downloaded iTunes 10.2.22 or whatever, whenever I tried to open iTunes I got a message that said, "ITunes did not install correctly". I uninstalled and did it again, only to get the same message. Help?

  • Thunderbird won't start in Windows Vista

I have used Thunderbird for some years now. Recently when trying to start Thunderbird in Windows Vista I get MS windows msge Thunderbird has stopped working. I get same msge if i try to start in Thunderbird safemode. Programme will only start in Windows safemode

Just had a thought, do you only have one instance, the current version of Thunderbird in your Control Panel > Program and Features? Make sure there is only the current version.
On one occassion I had Norton set to allow, but it seemed to be allowing the version prior to an update. So I had to reallow it by unsetting and resetting after making sure I only had one installation of TB.
Then check to see if there is a virus or malware that is causing the issue.
download malwarebytes - there is a free version.
    * https://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4/02_r/?gclid=COfA_Zi39cICFYLnwgodioIA9A
Start computer in SAfe mode and then run AVG Anti-virus.
    then run malwarebytes.
    Restart computer as normal.
Test to see if Thunderbird will run.

  • ITunes 10 won't start in Windows Vista, but QuickTime Player will.

I recently had iTunes updated to iTunes 10 using Apple Software Update.
After the update was done, iTunes 10 worked well.
Then just earlier, I tried to start iTunes, but it won't.
No system message appears meaning there is no error.
I tried rebooting my computer and running iTunes again, but still no effect.
Anybody found a solution to this?

Good gracious. Okay, I've seen reports that uninstalling the utility resolves the BonJour Service issues. But it might be possible to configure it so it doesn't interfere with BonJour. (I haven't tried that with anyone else yet, so this is going to be experimental.)
I see from IOBit's description of the utility that it has some security functions:
    http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscarepro.html
Are you able to switch the security functions off? If so, with the security functions switched off, are you able to launch iTunes when the BonJour Service has been enabled?

  • Itunes won't start in windows 7 with the 10.5 loaded

Hi I just got a HP with WIndows 7 and load the new 10.5 Itunes. The program starts to load until it gets to the going on line and then gives error message and closes. I have tried un-installing and doing it again. It did load the iphone software and imported the contents. Then it tried to go on line again and shut down.

The program starts to load until it gets to the going on line and then gives error message and closes.
What does the error message (or error messages) say, dawn? (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes won't start after Windows 7 Repair install

    Hi there
I recently had to repair my Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium edition installation. It warned me before reinstalling that there could be some problems with iTunes following the repair but I followed the instructions to counter this and repair Windows 7. i.e. I uninstalled all iTunes software as outlined on Apples pages.
On opening Windows 7 again I ended up with a Blue Screen of Death - this pointed me to a faulty iTunes installation - I checked control panel and sure enough it was not listed as uninstalled. I therefore followed online instructions to completely remove iTunes and used Revo Uninstaller Pro to catch anything I missed. All looked good, I rebooted my machine and then went to install iTunes again. I chose the 64bit installer from the site and installed as normal. I have now tried to open iTunes (to sync my iPhone) and it thinks about it for a second and then never opens. On opening task manager I can see iTunes.exe*32 (does this mean 32 bit and if so why when I've DEFINITELY got the 64 bit installation), iTunesHelper.exe*32 and AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe*32 all in Processes - they are not in open programs.
Even stopping these processes does not help. iTunes was working fine before my Windows 7 problems on this machine and all other software seems ok too following my repair. Can someone please assist me in getting iTunes to work again with my computer as this is very frustrating. This is not the first time it has happened to me - on my old Vista machine (different machine totally) this happened once or twice intermittently but then seemed to resolve itself. I have defrag, disk doctor and run just about every utility I have installed to get my system working ok and the only problem seems to be iTunes. I'd therefore appreciate help in resolving this.
    Many thanks
