Itunes won't update or restore my iPod

I'm trying to get my ipod to update to iOS 4.3.5 but for some reason it won't let me because it says my network connection is messed up even though I have a full connection.  Can I just download it off the website?

ali, if you reset the warnings on the ipod and try another restore/update, do you get some kind of error message?

if so, what does the message say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.

  • Nano won't update or restore in iPod Updater

-My nano when connected to my PowerBook does not show up in iTunes
-When iTunes is opened, it askes if I want to do a software update for the iPod
-In the updater, it says that it is formated in Windows, and will not allow me to restore it (saying that I need to hook up with a Firewire), nor will it let me update it (saying that only macintosh formatted ipods can be updated).
-I know that i need to restore it in OSX but it will not let me, and using the disk utility to restore it has not seemed to help.
-I tried using a windows computer to restore it, which i was able to do, but it would not let me update it on my mac.
    Any suggestions?

Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Plug your iPod with your Mac, open the iPod updater and hope it will allow you to click RESTORE.
    If still doesn't then
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

I am having problems updating and restoring my ipod in itunes 7. It simply disconeects Ipod when asked to do so.
    Thanks a lot !!

    hmmmmmm.
it might be worth quickly checking on the issue from this document:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes 7 doesn't recognize iPod
(my diffidence here is because it's a fairly new issue, and i don't have a good feel for the "symptom sets" associated with it ... still, it does no harm to check.)

I've been trying all day to update or restore my ipod but it won't go through without running into a last minute "error".

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes won't update my iPod

I plug in my iPod with or without iTunes open. A dialog box opens and asks me if I'd like to update or restore my iPod. I've tried both options.
When I click restore I get an error that says "The iPod "jackemstackem" (my iPod's name) could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-50).
When I click update I get an error that says "The iPod "jackemstackem" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1417).
I don't know what these numbers mean and I can't seem to figure out how to use all the technical support. I just downloaded the iTunes software, if that helps at all. Somebody please tell me what to do! I'm desperate!

it's wise to rewind to an older version of iTunes, so you can start to use your iPod again

  • Itunes won't update, ipod unusable without it

I have an ipod touch. I have been really good about keeping my itunes up to date. The last version I updated to was early this year. It keeps telling me I need to update but that it failed to update after download and that I need to manually install.
I plugged my ipod in and it asked me to update the ipod software so I did. Then it tells me that the ipod won't work unless I have the 10.0.1. But when I go to itunes and download itunes 10.0.1 it downloads but won't install and tells me I have an invalid drive F:/. I don't even have a drive F. I can't use my ipod now, I turn it on and I have the picture of the ipod being plugged into itunes. But itunes won't update. Nothing online or in any thread I have found has given me a solution. I am very frustrated. Is there anything I can do? Or do I need to uninstall itunes and lose all my music and apps?

I just put a flash drive into a USB port and then it started the install and when it asked where I wanted to put it I changed it from drive F to C.

  • My iPod Shuffle won't update or restore.

My iPod Shuffle won't update or restore when I put my iPod in it says iPod Service Error or Can't Mount iPod. Can someone please help me?

The same thing happened to me, I called Apple (Is your Ipod still have the free 90 days free phone call?) they told me it was my battery. They said they think I should buy a new one. I did not. I didn't think it is really my battery. Are you connections clean? Have you tried different USB hubs? I've heard the USB's in the back tend to give off more power.
    Hope this helps.
