  • IWeb not updating web site.

iWeb started out working okay. I kept a blog and updated it. Then I went on a trip. Even though I had wireless internet the whole time, updating kept failing. No error message, but the update clock would stop after being about one-quarter filled. When I came home, there was no difference.
Although this started months ago (before the whole .Mac to MobileMe changeover), I do believe my recent inability to update my web site is related to it. The reason is that although I can access the last updated version of my web site at "web.me.com/myaccountname", when I go to my current iDisk and open the "sites" folder, it's empty!
Is it possible that my account has not yet been changed over to MobileMe yet? I have already installed all OS updates, including the MobileMe update. My account logs in fine.
    Any ideas?????

Hey maybe you need to replace only the page that was updated, do not change all the published site, try I just did it and it work I have change a page and a file to be downloaded from the web site, now I can see the changes live on the web. this is what I wrote to others.
Hey I have found not a solution but a way to publish without iWeb, Just did it and I have seen the changes on the web site. If you guys want to try:
I have published my updated web site to a folder on my desktop. then open iDisk from the web (where my web sites files are stored for everyone else to see) then open both windows side by side and only replace the files of the updated pages from the desktop folder to the iDisk folder, there is always a file and a folder with the same name. I just replace them, I then checked on the web and Woalah! changes were made. Well... it did work for now without iWeb, not sure if is the right thing to do but if you are brave enough to follow this go ahead and go to bed as I will until the bug is fixed (hopefully tomorrow) then we can go back to normal. Hope is clear and it help! Rog

  • Cant update web site

i added a new podcast for today. went to upload and i get a unknown error.
not sure what is going on. help.

    No, I am a Mike
By the way. Iweb publishes on the the old G4 1.67 powerbook, but won't on the MacBook. I am copying over the Domain file again to see if that makes any difference.

  • I am running 10.6.8 and using iweb for my web site. After several SEO analysis they all indicate I need H1-6 header tags. After looking at the source code I see there are none in iweb. Is it necessary to add? If so, how do I add H Tags to iweb.

I am running 10.6.8 and using iweb for my web site. After several SEO analysis they all indicate I need H1-6 header tags. After looking at the source code I see there are none in iweb. Are they necessary to add?  Why would one add these tags and how do I add H Tags to iweb? And are there examples to look at? I am slowly learning about simple web design and assumed that iweb was stand alone without having to write code. Is this one of the reasons iweb is no longer supported? Thanks for looking at this!

A simple text page like this:
    Heading
        sub heading
              text paragraph ....
Is traditionally represented by html tags like:
    <h1>Heading</h1>
         <h2>sub heading</h2>
              <p>text paragraph ... </p>
I would guess that the use of h1-h6 tags helps search engines to understand the structure of a page as the tags imply a certain structure.
This can be compared to more generic tags like <div> that could represent any kind of content - and may be what iWeb uses (you'll have to check yourself).
I would generally recommend that you use some kind of up to date blog/site building tool, perhaps Wordpress or Squarespace (I haven't used either one myself) that support current web technologies - this should reduce your SEO issues and make it easier to properly support mobile/tablet users.

  • Iweb,fetch,existing web site

Hi and thanks in advance! I currently have a web site dianabeads.com, which I edit and update through parallel desk top and windows xp and front page. I am trying to figure out how to do it with iweb and fetch so I can get windows off of my mac, I have played with setting up a page in iweb, so easy have opened fetch and viewed my current web site, but when I go to "put" on fetch i cant find where the file (new page) is that I want to transfer. I can be reached at [email protected] thanks again. Tom Bunten

The main reason for not publishing direct from iWeb would be that a lot of people want to optimize and/or add tags.
The three applications that I use for this - WSM, WebCrusher and iWeb SEO tool will all upload to an iDisk with one click to save you the extra steps for drag and drop.
However, if you want to optimize and retain the iWeb features like hit counter, comments etc, you have to publish to MobileMe first anyway. If this is the case, I would agree that there is every good reason for publish direct from iWeb.
If you follow this thread ...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1743049&start=15&tstart=0
.... you will see how Old Toad's brilliant and perceptive mind has opened the door to successfully achieving the seemingly impossible task of optimizing and retaining these features.

  • Using iWeb '09 when web site was built in iWeb'08

I built my web site on iWeb '08 and made frequent changes using Yummy. Last month I upgraded to iWeb '09 and attempted to change the Newsletter page (one of the five pages). The content of the Newsletter page upgraded but I lost my navigation ability at the top of the page. All the other pages have the ability to navigate between each other, but all I have on the Newsletter page is a black dot in the left corner.
    The site is www.windsorseniormensgc.com
I'm afraid to upgrade the rest of the pages for fear of losing the navigation ability for the whole site. Can anyone assist me here?

This usually means you haven't uploaded the feed.xml file. In your case it's probably because the one on the server needs to be updated.
To reassure yourself that everything will be OK, publish your entire site to a local folder and launch it in the browser direct from your hard disk by double clicking the index.html file.
If all is well, republish the whole site and the new feed.xml should sort out the navigation issue.

  • IWeb 09 and web site on MobileMe...

    Hi !
I hope that somebody will be able to tell me how to resolve this issue...
I did reinstall from scratch my MacBookPro and install iLife '11. I didn't use Time Machine to restore backups but choose to reinstall all the softwares that I have. All my documents backup are on my iDisk on MobileMe.
    I did publish a web site with iWeb' 09 at www.marcmartineau.com .
Now, it's time to update this site. There is NO WAy I can open this site with iWeb'11 as it asks me all the time to create a new site or a new page.
Do you know how I can open my old published site with iWeb'11 ?
I just hope that I'm clear with my question... As english is not my native language...
THanks everybody for your help !
    Marc

Firstly, it is still iWeb 09 that you are using - it is iLife 11, but iWeb was not updated so it is still 09 that you are using.
You did make a backup of your site if you have a published site. iWeb will not be able to open a site that has already been published as it has no import facility for html.
If you don't have a backup of your domain.sites files found under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites, then there is nothing you can do except re-build your site from scratch.
Remember the importance of backing up your domain.sites file next time.

  • IWeb not updating blog site

I am trying to update my blog but even tho iWeb on my computer shows the change, the archive on the web site also shows the change, the home page does not. Does anyone have any ideas for why this doesn't work? My blog page is:
    http://web.mac.com/glennsan/iWeb/San%20Diego%20Petersons/Blog/Blog.html
if you want to take a look at it and see exactly what I am talking about.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I see it all fine. You must have fixed it or....
Maybe what you had was a cache problem. Since your pages weren't cached in my browser I saw it fine. But the old pages were most likely cached in your browser. After you update....clear the cache in Safari. Another method is to add a question mark at the end of the url address. That forces it to clear. Also over time it will natually update......so after awhile you will see the changes w/o clearing the cache.

  • Update web site with changes

I just made changes to our menu (created in fireworks) How do
I update my web site with the new menu? (please do not flame me for
    stupidity :-) )

Your .png has the same buttons at the Web site, what is it
    you changed?
I looked at the code and...I'm sorry to tell you this, but
it's a mess. From line 7 through line 787, comment tags are opened
but not closed. 780 lines of improperly coded nothing? Some
standard Dreamweaver code is commented out from 788 to 847, and
again at 1747 after a few more hundred lines of open-but-not-closed
comment tags and blank lines, and again at 3579.... After each
block of commented out code is some kind of menu stuff, but
probably only the last block is functional. Looks like there's some
external JavaScript code for your menus from 2002.
For divs, ids should be defined only once, but id LAYER2 is
defined twice (lines 3787 and 4021), id LAYER4 is defined 3 times
(lines 3803, 4032, and 4035), and id LAYER6 is defined twice (lines
    4019 and 4030).
Have you tried viewing the site in Firefox? In 2.0, I get the
buttons and the footer and that's it. No header, no Flash elements,
and no background behind the buttons. Hmm. I wonder if it's because
the flash is in an embed tag rather than an object tag? I don't use
Flash, so someone else will have to help you with that. In IE7,
even though I know there are some other menu links somewhere
(Admissions, Curriculum, Student Activities, Faculty and Staff,
Counseling, Cafeteria, Safety Pledge, Directions) I can't get them
to display. Perhaps that 5-year-old JavaScript code is not
    compatible with current browsers.
If I were you, I'd take this step-by-step, dissect what this
    page is
supposed to do, and rebuild it from scratch in a way that
will work with current browsers. This one doesn't. I know that
sounds like a lot of work, but I think it would be
    more work to straighten out
    this page.
    Good luck!

  • Iweb on a Web site?

I was wondering, can iweb templates web site?

I am sorry, somtimes my sentences get randomly chopped. My question was, "Can templates i create from i web, be used for a real website?" If so is there a tutorial that can show me how? I am trying to help build a website for a school organization. The school has given us a Url "space", but i am "fairly" new to this app. To be more specific how do i get my finished product onto the site?

  • Wifi connected but cant open web sites

I use my Ipad for email and surfing whilst traveling at air ports and hotesl.
Now some wifi sites ok but others sites I get connected but cant open web pages
WHY any ideas to fix problem

If you gave some examples of which locations caused problems and details on what happened it would help to give advice. There are many different types of "free" WiFi at these sorts of places. The mechanisms used to allow you to access the wifi are varied, i.e., agreement web pages, credentials, userid/password, etc.
In some cases, the Safari Autofill feature has interfered with the sign on mechanism used. If this is the case this feature can be turned Off by going to Settings > Safari > Autofill and turning it Off.

  • Conection not encrypted and i cant aces web site help

I am trying to access my church site and it says the web site does not supply ownership info It seems like I have trouble with anything that has html

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • IWeb and Club web site...access restricted to club members

I have just volunteered to 'think about' doing our local harley owners group website since the last webmaster has jacked it in.
The old site has gone and I will have to start from fresh. It will be hosted on a commercial local server with server space and domain name already registered.
I have seen reference to password protected areas of websites created using iWeb, and although possible it does not seem that iWeb is actually designed for the job. Also the threads i have seen do not seem to be referring to multiple usernames and pwds, stored in a database, but rather a single username/pwd
What the proposed new site needs is a public area, plus a private area with each member having access using there own Username and password. The Private area would need a Classified 'For sale ' area with members being to add and upload their own ads.
is this sort of thing possible from within iWeb or is it way outside its capabilities?
I thought it best to ask now...before I build the basic public site, and make a start on the private section...only to then find it is not possible
    Thanks
    Neil

Something exactly like that....fancy an unpaid job?
Guess I'll have to get to grips with the thing (iWeb) and see what I can do.
Before I ask any more questions, I'll have to have a play with it before asking such things as ....how did you do......
I made this one up using it a week or so ago...
    http://www.paisnel.co.uk/hog
My old ones from years back were done in ....who knows...some freeware Windows WYSIWYG editors
    http://old.paisnel.co.uk
and the later one just using the built in gallery software offered by the hosting site
    http://paisnel.co.uk
I never really did learn this 'black art' of html design. and have been trying to avoid doing so.

  • Poblem with mathing iWeb appearance to web site

I use a test box to list a series of events in our community. Each event is placed on a separte line, using the "Return" key. I then place a blue horizontal line between each event. In iWeb, all the lines are perfectly placed. But when I go to the site, the lines drift so that they run right though the text. How can I make the site perfectly match iWeb?

One way round this is to put each event in a separate text box and each horizontal line in a separate text box, then align all the textboxes next to each other.
