Like everybody here, iWeb '08 is getting on my nerves because all of my photo-pages are ruined. Happily, my backup is untouched and is ready to be updated when a new iWeb will be realesed...
please be quick to update this non working software....

I had a problem with photos missing from Photo pages. I just talked to Apple support and we were able to fix the problem for my domain!
The Apple support person said that some domain files are not being properly updated to 2.0. In those cases, peoples are experiencing missing pictures and text as navigation on photo pages.
One indicator if your domain was properly updated to 2.0 is to look at the filename in User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/. In my case the file was Domain.sites and not Domain.sites2 so the initial conversion did not complete properly.
The solution was to replace incorrectly updated Domain.sites file above with the original backup that I made before installing iWeb 2.0. (NOTE - The readme clearly states to backup this file before installing and luckily I did.)
After copying the file to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb, make sure that iWeb is closed (not running). I then double clicked the Domain.sites folder and patiently wait for the Progress bar to complete. (Thank you to another poster on another thread for this suggestion.) You will not receive any success message other than the file will be renamed Domain.Sites2.
After multiple saves and publishes, it appears that everyone now works correctly. The Apple support person was very interested in user feedback and wants more people to report issues via phone. He took my original domain file (via his iDisc account) so he could submit it to engineering for them to study. It sounds like they could still use a few more examples of Domains that fail the initial upgrade to 2.0.
Hope this helps.

  • IWeb doesn't "see" Home Page

I have a Home Page on my iDisk that is visible and works fine from my .mac account home.
However, its icon and name do NOT appear in the left-hand panel list of iWeb 08.
    Any help much appreciated.

I have a Home Page on my iDisk that is visible and works fine from my .mac account home.
Is it perhaps a page with a url like http://homepage.mac.com/username? If so, it was not made with iWeb and there is no way to import it.

  • Drag and Drop to photo page creates links, doesn't replace placeholders

I searched the discussions for quite a while and didn't find much similar to this topic. Basically, drag and drop is no longer working on my iWeb and my photo grids will not accept pictures to replace the placeholder (sample) photos. I will try to explain the whole problem in detail.
I am a new iWeb user, and I set up a page without any problems at first. Yet when I returned in iWeb to add another photo page today, I have had a lot of trouble. I used the template Photo Page and opened the Inspector and the Media Viewer to drag photos onto the placeholder photos, as the Help pages and tutorials show. Yet when I drag the picture file from the Media Viewer into the photo grid, only a small text box appears that sets up a hyperlink to the photo file on my computer. I've tried messing with the inspector, seeing what the difference is between the placeholder photos' settings and the files I'm trying to add.
The only differences I can see are: in the Link Inspector's pane I can tell the program is at first making a hyperlink to the file instead of displaying the photo (yet disabling the hyperlink doesn't change anything); also,
In the Graphic Inspector pane that appears when I have selected a general area in the photo grid, at the top the "Style" , "Layout" and "Caption" options appear, along with a display of a sample photo style. When I click on one of the rectangles that appears with the file I am trying to drag and drop, I have only the "fill" option, which has "none" selected. Fiddling with the options does not get the photo to appear.
I can see the blue grid surrounding the placeholder photos, so the photo grid exists. I have also tried using different templates' photo pages, but they all have the same problem. I also tried creating an album in iPhoto and importing it to iWeb, but only two photos appeared out of 12.
So the main part of my problem is not that photos don't appear at all (if I try and insert them they appear on their own, completely independant of the template's style and the photo grid)., it is that they do not work with the photo grid and that drag-and-drop no longer works.
Any information that could help is greatly appreciated.

    Susan,
Try out the following things. These suggestions are
sort of the starting point for non-specific strange
    behavior in iWeb.
    1. Delete iWeb preference file at:
    YourHardDrive/Users/yourname/Users/Library/Preferences
    /"com.apple.iWeb.plist"
    2. Delete iLife Media Browser preference file at:
    YourHardDrive/Library/Preferences/"com.apple.iLifeMedi
    aBrowser.plist"
    3. Repair startup disk permissions using Disk
    Utility
    4. Reboot machine
    5. Delete iWeb application (but keep a backup of the
Domain file!) and reinstall iWeb 1.0 from original
iLife'06 DVD or Recovery Disks and then update
directly to 1.1.1 via Software Update.
These are the top 5 things that seem to garner some
kind of positive results from people having similar
    problems.
I am having the same problem Susan described. I've tried #1 and #2 from the above recommendations and still have the same problem of photos not opening in the photo page after dragging them from iphoto. I, too, published a site (not on .Mac, but I don't know if that matters) and now want to add a photo page. Also, the template shows six placeholders, but when I select the photo page only three appear.
Hope you can help. Thank you.

  • Photo Pages: TIFF Format Doesn't Work?

I just published an iWeb site with 3 photo pages in it. All of the photos were in TIFF format. I found that when the site was viewed via Safari (or IE in Windows) the photos looked horrible...pixellated...slideshows didn't work, etc.).
I then tried re-publishing the site and got the same results.
My next step was to convert all of the TIFF photos into JPEG format and republish the site again. This seemed to do the trick, as now all of the photos look good, and the slideshows now work.
If, as I'm guessing, iWeb doesn't play well with TIFF images, why are we allowed to use them...shouldn't iWeb warn against this?
Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi Mike ...
I think this byte order thing is probably the same for most (all?) multi-platform raw converters. I've checked this with Bibble and ACR. If I drag a converted tiff into iWeb the displays messed up. If I then load into PS and do a "save as" you get the dialogue which lets you choose pc/mac byte order and checking the mac option fixes things. Similarly doing a "save as" out of Preview saves in mac order.
Hopefully they'll fix it in an update.

  • Trying to figure how photos "travel" from iPhoto to my iWeb photo pages

    Greetings,
I have I believe gotten t understand just about all I need for now about building web sites with iWeb and its templates (for now). Works well. I am publishing to my .Mac account (for now).
Now, I want to fully understand how photos albums/pages are kept up/coordinated, on my computer, on .Mac Gallery and on the actual .Web site (on .Mac)
Here what I have done so far in regard to posting and upkeeping photos (works well!):
Selected pics from iPhoto >>> Made albums on my MBP
    Published Albums on Web Gallery
    Built website with iWeb
Built photo pages/my album page (indexing)
Inserted my Web Gallery albums into my website
Published the whole thing on .Mac.
    My questions:
*1. Somewhere in Tutorials, it says that: "with .Mac Web Gallery, you can get the shots you wish you had by allowing friends to contribute photos (from their browsers, email). And, whenever new photos are added, they are automatically sinced to your iPhoto08 library".* I am assuming same should/would happen when my iWeb site viewers upload theirs pics (which I am encouraging!) to my Web galleries via my iWeb site. I do not see that happen however. Web gallery gets of course updated by such uploads, +but NOT iPhoto library.+
    2. Some other iWeb Tutorial states *"If you are a .Mac member, you can publish photos/movies from iPhoto and iMovie directly to your Web Gallery. When a Gallery photo album is updated, your website is updated automatically with the new content."*. In the case of my site viewers' uploads to my gallery, works OK, but +my site's pages do not show the new photos.+. Any way to better coordinate my .Mac Web galleries with my (also) .Mac Web Pages?
I hope this is clear enough. I have LOOKED for some more info/tutorial about iWeb/Web Galleries/Viewer photo uploads from my Web site, but have not founded anything specific.
    Thanks for any advice!
    - Roger Y

_*Thanks a lot, Wyodor for your detailed reply.*_
It just happens that I have gotten quite fond of the way iLife as a suite - along with its online (.Mac in my case) components) seem to keep a good, purposeful flow of things going.
So, indeed, as I am currently looking at the stuff on my .Mac site, Web GAllery and My Pages respective materials are not actually linked in terms, especially, of allowing Web Gallery albums' updates to "flow" into My Pages areas.
Too bad in a way! Unless I decide to use the Widget feature in iWeb to link my website photo pages specifically to Web Gallery albums - as suggested by Roddy. Currently I use iWeb template system - with Photo Pages and MyAlbums index.
    You stated:
+"Your iWeb page shows the tiny player with your dotMac Webgallery.+
+Click on the tiny player, and the full Web gallery opens."+
    Where is that button actually?
"Your iPhoto library will be update updated vice versa."
I'll have to check that out then!
    Thanks again!

  • Making a Photo Hyperlinkable in the main "Photos" page

In this shot, I want to make the Sunset picture hyperlinkable. That is, you click on it and it takes you to this page below, which shows all my photos under "Sunset".
I know about making the text "Sunset" hyperlinkable. But I want to make the photo linkable, not the text. I've tried dragging the sunset album to the Sunset photo to make it hyperlink but that didn't work. It just sat on top of the photo.
I tried pasting a picture over the sunset pic and then making that picture a link (this works), but that's time-consuming and the edges don't line up exactly.
If I make a new "Photos" page, and remove all photos plus the "containers" that hold them. Then add my photos. This would allow me to link the main page to another page.
Only thing is that I want to put those nice picture frames with shadows (which iWeb offers on the "Photos" page) around my photos and doing the above step doesn't allow me to do that.

You can't make a thumbnail on a Photo page into a hyperlink. What you want to do has been covered many times already in this forum (searching for 'nesting', for instance gives 24 results). Basically, the top page, from which you want to link to several category pages, should not itself be a Photo page, and the actual Photo pages you link to should have 'Include page in navigation menu' unchecked in the Page Inspector. Start with a Welcome or About Me page, for instance. Drag representative images for each category onto this page, arrange them as you like, and make each image a hyperlink to the appropriate Photo page. That's it in a nutshell.
Have a look at this page in my iWeb blog about iWeb to see the technique in action:

  • Rebuilding Photo Pages from Lost iWeb Site

I mistakenly deleted my backed up iWeb domain file after doing a fresh install of OSX. I know there is no way to import the published HTML files into iWeb, so I am in the process of making a copy of my website manually. I am looking for a way to rebuild my photo pages that doesn't require me to look at the published site, identify which photo is on the site, find it in iPhoto, and drag it to my new iWeb site. Instead, what I'd like to do is grab the photo files from iDisk for each photo page, and then drop them into my new iWeb site. However, I can't seem to find on my iDisk where the actual photo files are stored. I suspect I am looking in the wrong place. The files in the iDisk/Web/Sites/Site Name/My Albums/Pages/Album Name/Media/Photo Name are too small and low quality. When I click the download link from the published site, it's the full size file. Where is this stored?

  • "flicker" in iweb photo page

I have just installed iLife '08 ad am curretly updating my website with photos using web gallery. The biggest problem I have found is that the photos constantly flicker on my iweb application, but they publish just fine. I also woul like to know if I can get rid of the album that comes up as a place holder on the photos page because it doesn't publish anyway.
    Thanks

    Jeff:
You need to find the icons for Firefox and Safari on the internet and download them. Try at the sites I list below. Then use the following URLs in a text link (I also linked the Safari and FF icons).
    For FireFox 3 : http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    For FireFox 2: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • How to get iPhoto '08 to export comments as part of iWeb photo page?

I've got an event in iPhoto '08, and want to export it as a photo page (darkroom template). It exports all the photos and titles, but not the comments from iPhoto. I cannot figure out how to make it export the comment. Where is the setting for this?
It's very easy in iPhoto to export as a regular html with the comments, but somehow not to iWeb.

    Marguerite:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There's an Applescript that will take your comments and put them in the title field in iPhoto. Then when you create the photo page in iWeb the comments will be in the title field and will be displayed. Once the iWeb page is created you can go back in iWeb and use the Photos->Batch Change->Title to File Name menu option and get the old title back.
Here's where you get the Applescript. Be sure to read the comments to see where the one error, regarding the Å character that is in the script: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070822121100394&query=applescript %2Btitle
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Iweb 08 removing photos from photo page upon save

I am running into a peculiar bug in iweb. I have a working iweb site with mostly photo or movie pages. Was in updating the iweb site on my new MBP late 2008 adding in a new photo page.
    1) added new photo page and renamed
    2) dragged ~8 photos from iphoto to populate the page
    3) dragged additional groups of photos (~10 at a time)
    4) edited some text at the top of the page
    5) clicked save
All but the first set of photos dragged onto the page from iphoto were deleted from the page.
Thought this to be very strange as something like this happened two weeks ago and I thought it was an errant mouse click or something I did.
But again - why? I went back and added more photos to the page to fix. Moved over 3 groups and then clicked save. Again the photos disappeared. Getting frustrated at this time.
Again added photos to the page in groups and saved the file after each addition. Page eventually was created with all photos saving after each group was added.
Has anyone else had this issue?
    Thank you,
    Keith

After you ran the updates to iWeb on your new Mac, did you do a restart? Although you are not instructed to do this, do it anyway!
Most problems in iWeb can be fixed by deleting the preferences file - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist, restarting your Mac and running Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Don't forget to reset your preferences after deleting the .plist.

  • Web gallery use vs iWeb photo page

I really like the quick layout of the gallery. Would I be saving more iDisk space by using the Aperture Web gallery vs iWeb photo pages?? My guess is yes because I can control the size in page/detail and more when I save to my .mac. The only feature I would lose is the flow of navigation with the other iWeb pages.
My thought was to create a main photo page with iWeb and have a small snapshot to hyperlink to the homepage.mac gallery created with Aperture. This allows flexibility in adding/removing the galleries if space becomes an issue. I dont have much in iWeb so far and it takes a really long time to load as it is. I'd hate to bog down more with photo galleries.

    hello, me100finn
quote: "The only feature I would lose is the flow of navigation with the other iWeb pages."
You can always manually make a link to the other web pages which is what I do.
Just a few more added features to Aperture Web Gallery and Web Journal like an advance option feature to view & change the CSS or source code (without going to GoLive or Dreamweaver) or something along the lines of "would you like to add a link to another url?" would be tasty.
quote: "My thought was to create a main photo page with iWeb and have a small snapshot to hyperlink to the homepage.mac gallery created with Aperture."
Yup, my thoughts too. Maybe version 2 (i hope). I'm making the site first in Aperture (the heavy lifting) and then making minor additions and tweaks in GoLive.
To do this add the image, select it after the export in a wysiwyg html editor and point it to the proper linked url.

  • Photo pages don't show photos after iWeb upgrade

I loaded the upgrad yesterday for my 08 iWeb and now the photos that I published prior to upgrade don't show up on my site. Strangely, the Album page shows the photos in each album, but when I click into the photo page itself, no photos are visible and also the "index, play slideshow, subscribe" don't work either. Any new photo page I created after the upgrade looks fine. Everything looks clean in iWeb software itself. Photos don't show up on the site. What's up with this? Thanks for the answers.

Mine is doing the exact same thing - thought the update would solve the issue. The drop down menu says there are missing fonts, then it tells me to put the photos on the page again, which is ridiculous. iWeb '06 to '08 is the problem as anything added to it since upgrading to the latter works fine. Apple won't seem to acknowledge that they've introduced incompatible software, which is more like the doings of Microsoft.
