IWEB Folder Problems

Okay.. So I published one of my websites to a folder and have been looking at them in internet explorer. Nothing is clickable and some things are overlapping-however when I published to the web it was clickable and nothing over lapped. Why is it doing this?
Someone I work with is putting the files into dreamweaver to fuss with the HTML code and he keeps asking me why he can't click anything or see the navigation bar etc in the folders previews. (or whatever they are called)
thanks

Have you tried using a different browser to view the site locally and what platform are you on when trying IE? Macs have software built in so they can be viewed locally while PCs, well need I say more.

  • Iweb folder

    Hi there
Last night I set up two separate site folders in iweb, one for me and one for my boyfriend. I saved his site to a folder on my computer for an external site & domain but want to adjust his pages on my computer for him. The problem came when I published-I thought I could publish only one of the sites and it did both! So in my haste I deleted it from iweb and republished as instructed on the help pages, so that his website was not on two different sites. I then thought I could open the folder that I had saved with his site in it, back into iweb so I could do some more work on his site. Problem is, I can't seem to do that, even though the pages were created with iweb software. Any ideas on how I can do it without having to start again? I now know that I should have published the files and locked his with a password! Gah, why is it you know these things when it goes wrong?

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). http://iweb.aardvarkland.com
If you are wanting to have separate sites - try domain splitting:

  • Folder problems on external drive, not showing correct file size

I've run across a strange problem. I'm media managing for a tv show, meaning I'm offloading video from CF cards onto 2 external drives, one is a Drobo Raid (set up for backup) and another is a Lacie rugged drive. After copying the media to both drives, the folder I copy will match, but sometimes as I drill upward in my folder structure, suddenly the file sizes will not match. To be more clear: 2 folders will show differing file sizes, but inside that folder is only another folder, nothing else, which matches across the drives. I've shown all files in finder and there's no hidden files, though sometimes I see the ds_store files are different sizes (8k vs 16k), but that's not always the case. Sometimes if I simply create a new folder and move it's contents into it I can get the folders to match, but sometimes that doesn't work. It's part of my workflow to show that these copies match exactly via screenshots, and although the most important folder (the direct folder holding the footage) always matches, these folder problems are super frustrating as it's not constant, and any workarounds also work inconsistantly.
I had an accidental disconnect of the Drobo one time, and although none of the data seems to have any problem, I fear it's done something to the directory. The rugged drive is swapped out every few days and the problem seems to be on the Drobo. Because the nature of the data is pretty important, I'm afraid to just try messing around with repairing or other software solutions unless I know it's super safe and won't harm the data.
I'm at a loss as to what's causing it and at the very least how to avoid it cropping up. Any help or insight would be appreciated!

I had the same problem with my iMac, first I repaired the disk, then I ejected the disk, restarted, and then reinserted the USB in a different port.  All of my files magically showed up.  I don't know what caused the error but it has been working fine since.

  • Can't locate iweb folder in application support

I cant locate the iweb folder inapplication support, I’m trying to find the domain file but I’ve haven't succeed.

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Mobile me to iweb import problems.

A year ago I created a family history album on iweb and published it. Now I cannot edit it or see the pages in iweb. They are only viewable in mobile me. How can I import the pages to iweb so I can edit them. The site contains a lot of family images which are obviously very important for me to keep.
If I go to the site via firefox the I am asked for a username and password.
I can view all ok in mobile me.

Welcome to the discussions. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
By the way, for searching purposes it may be useful to know that an iWeb '06 Domain file is called "Domain.sites" and iWeb '08 & '09 Domain files are called "Domain.sites2" — although the “.sites” extension is usually invisible.
If you don't have a backup of your Domain file (e.g. via Time Machine), paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • I can't find where iweb saves files. i have no iweb folder in my library applications. any ideas?

i can't find where iweb saves files. i have no iweb folder in my library applications. any ideas?

Yes you do - it is found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
It is the domain.sites folder that you want and the iWeb folder is NOT in your System Library, but rather your User Library - that's the one with the house.
Depending on what OS you are using - from Lion upwards, your User Library is invisible, so to make it visible, go to the Go menu and hold down the 'alt' key at the same time and your Library will show - then go to Application Support and the iWeb folder is there with your domain.sites file in it.  Double click on this file to open it and iWeb will.

  • I can't find iweb folder in application support

    Hi
I formatted my macbook. Before format I back up domain.sites2.
Now I want to import domain.sites2 to new macbook (I mean formatted macbook)
I read forums and I saw that I have to copy+ paste this file to  library/application support/iweb
But there is no iweb folder in application support.
I double clicked domain.sites2 while located in desktop; İweb opened but I can't see my older pages.
    Please help me

Leave the old domain file in the iWeb folder and use the following app to see if it will let you open that particular domain file.
To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script"/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"
    delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
Due to Sandboxing by the operating system you may get a message that the app can't be opened because it's from an unregistered developer. In that case you can Control (right) - click on the app and select Open from the contextual menu OR create your own app from the code above using Applescript Editor.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9 ,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
You only need to run the app once or if you want to open a different domain file.

  • Any Update on the "Ghost Folder" Problem

Just wondering if there has been any furhter insight into the "Ghost Folder" problem created after editing in PS CS3 (from LR2)?
Is there any manual way to get the image from the ghost folder to appear back in the proper folder?
    Thanks
    Ken

    Hi Guy,
    Thanks for the reply.
When I edited the image in PS CS3 I saved it to a folder as a .tif (so I could send it to a print lab). When I went back to LR2 the saved tif did not show up in my tif folder so I synchronized that folder and that's when it showed up in the "ghost folder" in LR2. When I look at the original folder of tifs this particualr image doesn't show up. I then tried to move (drag and drop) from the ghost folder into the original tif folder but LR tells me there is already an image there by that name.
So if I manually remove the ghost folder (via LR or in windows) what will happen to the saved tif?
Right now I have PS CS3 set up as the first editor in the preferences, with tif as thw working format. Are you suggesting that PS be set up as the additional editor as well? WHat do I put in the preference for the primary editor?
BTW, I am also working in Win XP Pro.
    Thanks
    Ken

  • Iweb ftp problem - adding a folder where I don't want one

    Hi,
I'd like to use iweb to upload directly to a web site.
I have put in the same ftp details as work in dreamweaver but it creates a file that appears to be the site name. I've named the site the same as my URL, so the 'welcome' page becomes something like:
www.  myurl.  co.  uk  /myurl/  welcome.html
(ive added the spaces to the example to stop it becoming a hyperlink, but you get the idea)
Am I doing something daft? Is there any way to not add this extra folder? My URL is already quite long.
At present I'm creating the site in Iweb, piublishing to a folder on my mac, opening dreamweaver and loading from there. I'm sure it should be easier that that!
    Cheers.

It is perfectly normal for iWeb to do this and no, you are doing nothing wrong.
Re-name your site and don't use your url for the name of your site - change it to something shorter.
If you want to upload your site without the site folder, then download Cyberduck and upload ONLY the contents of your site folder and not the whole folder itself.
You can do this using Cyberduck or continue to use Dreamweaver.  There is no other way to avoid this really except using either of these two to upload.  That's it.  You can't do this using iWeb ftp.

  • Iweb formating problem with photo album

    Hi,
Im quite new to iweb but was developing a simple website to advertise a friends photography business.
I've made three pages, one of which is photo gallery using iweb's photo album page structure which seems to work fine apart from one problem.
I adapted one of the themes to have a simple gradient colour fill for the page background and a single colour for the browser background. The problem occurs when i want to view a larger image of the one of the photos - the colour gradient does not extent upwards into the header area and down into the footer area.
Please see http://www.swanmoreweddingcars.com/test/MartinKingPhotography.co.uk/Gallery/Page s/Album_Two.html and click on a photo to enlarge. This problem does not appear when in iweb, only after I've published it to a folder.
If any one has any suggestions about what is going wrong please let me know, as i think i've tried everything.
    Many thanks

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I've tried playing around with all of those settings but with no luck. It appears exactly how i want it to look in iWeb but as soon as i publish it to a folder to upload it to my web server the problem arises.

  • Multipul iweb sites   problem with own domain name

    hello all
i have currently 2 iweb sites (my own personal one with my own personal domain) and another site which has a podcast for my self and flat mates
    the problem comes in this.
if i want to subscribe the podcast to itunes it trys to send it as www.garethmob.co.uk/flat6_band ect where the actuall band website does not sit on my own personal website
is there any way i can fix this by having the origional web.me.com/garethmob ect for one of the websites and the garethmob.co.uk for the other?
both are on my mobile me account
thanks for any help in advance
    Gareth

If you have more than on site on your iDisk and go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites, you will see that you have two website folders but only one index.html file.
If the domain name www.garethmob.co.uk (Site 1) is directed at that index.html file then that's the one that must exist in the Web/Sites folder.
When you upload another site (Site 2), its index.html file overwrites the existing one and the URL is then directed to the wrong site.
When you upload changes to the site with the MobileMe URL (Site 2), you must then upload a copy of the index.html file for the other site (Site 1) after doing this.
You can do this by publishing your Site 1 to a local folder and then put the index.html file inside a folder and trash the rest.
After you have uploaded changes to Site 2, go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and upload a copy of the index.html file for Site 1 by drag and drop.

  • Were is the correct place for web content public_html or iWeb Folder?

Apologise but this is a bit of a long problem description.
I have been using iWeb for about 9 months to create web sites, i have no html training so the iweb approach suits me fine, when you create an iweb site it automatically creates a folder, using the Site name, in public_html all web content is placed inside this folder. and as i understand it the index_html file in public_html redirects access to the home page within the site name folder.
This has been working fine for me for some time until about 2 days ago, when my Google Webmaster tools account showed totally wrong set of Keywords for the site. I have been using iWebSEO Tools to manage the keywords etc.....
The new set of key words have come from the index_html page at public_html and according to feedback from the Google Webmaster Forum they say placing web content inside a folder in public_html is not a good idea.
If this is correct how do i force iWeb not to create the Site name folder?
    Thanks
    John

If this is correct how do i force iWeb not to create the Site name folder?
You don't force iWeb. To command iWeb you have to obey it. The Ancients already knew that.
Here's my solution : [Avoiding the iWeb Sitename in the URL|http://www.wyodor.net/blog/archives/2010/01/entry_299.html]
The pages are relocated but the concept still works.
