Iweb hyperlink opacity frustration!

Hi there,
I'm using iWeb to put together a website for my assessment and I'm currently having problems with my text hyperlinks.
I've made its 'normal' setting 0% opaque with a black rollover. This works fine in the program but once I publish it to my browser (tried Safari and Google Crome - to a local folder) it doesn't respond to the rollover change.
I've tried everything to my knowledge...is this a known glitch?
Please help...my assessment is on Friday Thank you!

Bonjour,
You need to turn your link into image

  • IWeb Hyperlink

I managed to set up an image on iWeb to work as a hyperlink to an external web site I have. While I am in the iWeb application, I can click on the picture and it takes me to the webpage I want it to link to.
However, when I go to the published iWeb page the little blue arrow in the corner of the picture is now gone, and the picture no longer functions as a hyperlink.
Can someone please help me understand, why the link doesn't work when the iWeb page goes online?
    Thanks in advance,
    ~ john

Thanks, Gang. I am pleased to report that the image on my iWeb is now a hyperlink to my other site - a HomePage that is using my own domain name as the URL.
I trashed the image that was causing me all the grief, and re-imported it from iPhoto using the Inspector. I made certain there were no interfering "thin lines" behind the spot where I was placing the image, ie misplaced text boxes, etc, in the background.
Following that, I cleared the caches, and put in to place the excellent strategy outlined by Mark. His post is so bang on, that I am reposting it here, as others will be save a lot of frustration.
In iWeb, open your photos page in which you want to create your hyperlinked photos.
From the menu options at the bottom of the iWeb window, click on the green Shapes box, and select the square. Position the square over the photo you wish to hyperlink, and expand it to cover the photo. Now open Inspector.
Click on Graphic Inspector, (third from the right in the Inspector menu options), and define the square as follows:
    Fill: None
    Stroke: None
    Opacity: 1%
Open your TextEdit.app and type in the urls you wish to use for your links. This isn't exactly necessary, but it will save a little aggravation when it comes to setting your links in Inspector. Highlight and Command+C the specified url for the hyperlink. Now, back in iWeb, highlight the box you just set up and in Inspector, check the box next to Enable as a Hyperlink. The copied url will automatically be placed in the hyperlink field. Click on the iWeb page and the link will be set.
You have now hyperlinked an invisible shape, placed over the photo, to your target url, making it appear as if the photo itself is the hyperlink.

  • Iweb Hyperlink Format not working!

    Hello,
I am using version 3.0.3 of iWeb. I think this must be the latest version.
No matter what I do, I cannot get the FORMAT tab to do anything within the hyperlinks section of the inspector.
Let's I want to change the color of how a button behaves (rollover, click etc), I click on that element (text, box, anything), I select Inspector, I go to hyperlink tab, and the FORMAT subtab is not working.
Has anyone else had this issue?
What do i need to do??
    I'm totally frustrated.
    Thanks

    Hello Old Toad,
Thanks for your response, but believe me, i've tried EVERYTHING.
I've selected Text, I've highlighted the text, I've gone to the INSPECTOR window, selected the hyperlink tab, and the FORMAT TAB always remains INACTIVE: i.e. all the buttons are dark grey and do nothing when I press them.
I paid for this software upgrade also (iLife 11).
I really like iWeb actually, it produces what I want, except this formatting of URLs (and perhaps sub-menus).
Im getting really desperate to find why my FORMAT of hyperlinks is not working.
    Thanks

  • IWeb hyperlink "ghosted" for images

Why is it that iWeb will not allow me to add a hyperlink to ANY images on my site? When I select an image, then "Insert > Hyperlink", the "Webpage", "Email message", and "File..." options are ghosted, not active, not enabled, dead. Why is that? How can this problem be remedied? I am becoming very frustrated with iWeb '08 now because features that should easily function, such as adding a hyperlink to an image and using Google AdSense without crashing iWeb are totally messed up!
Does anyone have any helpful information about the adding a hyperlink to an image problem? Obviously, any and all helpful info will be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards and many blessings,
    Stoneman

Inspector. Hmmm... go figure. I am just stupid enough to have tried to enable an image as a hyperlink from the menu "Insert>Hyperlink" DOH!
Thanks so much, Robert. I appreciate your help very much! It works great now!
    Blessings!

  • IWeb hyperlink color change: have already tried posted suggestions

I am beyond frustrated right now. Please help me get my program to do what it was clearly designed to do! I will be thrilled if I am just making a simple error.
I have tried the following to change hyperlink text color:
    a. disabled hyperlinks, selected the hyperlink (both by clicking in and by clicking near--both get blue box around it), then highlighting text, clicking on "T" in inspector, changing font color there, re-enabling hyperlinks. NO COLOR CHANGE.
    b. downloading a program that is supposed to do it for you. NO COLOR CHANGE.
    c. with navigation bar (not my main concern), tried creating my own text box, with own links. When it was just text, I changed the color with font change at bottom of iWeb. As soon as I created hyperlinks, they turned to black and wouldn't change. NO COLOR CHANGE>

Yes delete it and redo it using the new way. It is sometimes a lot faster and easier to get rid of a difficulty than trying to find out where it goes wrong.
I think it is part of the way it was formatted initially but I can't say for sure why it is not right. You can copy paste the style from another page or if this link is on another page you can copy paste it.

  • Problem with iWeb Hyperlinks After Upgrade

We just upgraded to Snow Leopard and iLife version 9.0.3. We have a website which we created in iWeb. After upgrading all our software, we updated our website and now some of the hyperlinks don't work, but only those on one page in the website. The hyperlinks worked in the old version and in fact they work in the iWeb application. However when on the actual website, they hyperlinks don't work. They are links to other pages on our site. Any thoughts as to what we should do to fix this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you use the "One of my pages" option when assigning the hyperlinks in the Inspector/Link pane? I've had those break on me at time. What I've done is go to the published page, copy the URL and add it to the Hyperlink pane as an external page. I've found that this is more reliable than the other method.

  • IWeb hyperlinks working on only one page

    Hi,
    I'm building a website with iWeb - www.dariusenakim.nl
It's in Dutch so the words won't mean anything to you but it's a fairly simply product with just four pages in total:
    Home, Work, About Us, Contact
When you go to the site you arrive at Home (I did not make it so, this was default. I guess it recognized the Home.html? - another question) and all the hyperlinks at the top work. However whenever you click on one you go to the directed page but there the exact same hyperlinks are not recognized as hyperlinks any more. It's the exact same lay-out for all pages but only one of four is working!
Can anyone help me solve this problem? I've already tried moving the images up or down (the whole header-layer discussion) but it doesn't make any difference and the lay-out as it is seems to be working flawlessly on the first page (home), so why not on the others? I've also tried not using links to internal pages but external links to the actual website address but no difference: only the first page is working.
The really strange thing is that I have an alternative Home page set up: www.dariusenakim.nl/Home_Alt.html
This was just a test to see if we wanted another lay-out but we didn't go for it. However on this page the hyperlinks are also working!!
    Please advice. Thanks in advance.
    ps. iWeb 3.0.4 (304) developped in 2011

    Hi Wyodor,
If that was the case why would the exact same lay-out work on the first 2 pages but not on the others? Does the body layer alter its size randomly so that sometimes the images are in the wrong layer and sometimes not? Even with duplicating the exact same page?
Will try later tonight anyway but like I said: it doesn't make any sense it's 4 times the same page with just different content beneath it...

  • IWeb hyperlinks not coming out right when published

    Hiya,
Has anyone got any idea why hyperlinks (to other of my pages) on some of my web pages come out as a blue square with a question mark in the middle, rather than the name of the link? If you click on it, it takes you to the right page, but you can't read what the link says. It means I can navigate around the site but no one else can!
Many thanks for any replies on how to fix...
    Rose

I see what you mean. When that page is viewed in the Activity window there are a number of items that are using the following URL for their location:
    archive:%20artsfiles/shapeimage_1_link0.png
with the resulting error message: Unsupported URL.
Those items that are correct have the following URL:
    http://web.me.com/roseskelton/iWeb/Site/Archive%3A%20artsfiles/navbar_1normal.png
Are you using a text based hyperlink for those or an image? If an image how are you adding it to iWeb?
You may have to delete those items and create them again from the beginning.

  • IWeb? I Frustrated!

I am a new Mac user (I have an iMac) but a very long time PC user - transitioning over is NOT easy and iWeb appears to be no exception.
I am in the process of trying to use iWeb to construct a relatively basic webpage and am finding the templates to be ridiculously rigid.
For instance, I am using the 'Black' template ... it has the navigation bar positioned at the top of the page where it would be above the logo. I don't want the navigation bar there, but I can't seem to customize or move it.
I am going to need to link pages that will not be 'on' my actual webpage - for instance, I have a related PHBPP forum that I want to be included in the navigation bar - normally I would have hyperlinked it with either a 'button' or 'text prompt' - but the Mac template doesn't seem to allow this either.
I think I'd like a little less 'help' and a little more flexability/customizability. Can I design with a blank page 'template'and a wysiwyg editor? What are my iWeb options?
The other BIG problem right now, is that I am temporarily using a dial up connection, which is very slow and means all those jazzy video tutorials .... are virtually useless to me. If I were to be pointed in the direction of help, its going to need to take my connection into account :/
Would appreciate any suggestions or help - I don't know any other Mac users and am really feeling isolated; one Mac in a sea of PC's.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

For instance, I am using the 'Black' template ... it
has the navigation bar positioned at the top of the
page where it would be above the logo. I don't want
the navigation bar there, but I can't seem to
    customize or move it.
You can increase the header size in the page tab of Inspector and put your logo above the nav bar. OR use a different template.
You can also remove the nav bar completely in the same tab of inspector.
I am going to need to link pages that will not be
'on' my actual webpage - for instance, I have a
related PHBPP forum that I want to be included in the
navigation bar - normally I would have hyperlinked
it with either a 'button' or 'text prompt' - but the
Mac template doesn't seem to allow this either.
You can do this, but it requires some post publish editing.
    1. Create a "dummy page" in iWeb called "Forum" (or whatever) and make sure it is included in the nav bar via the Page tab of inspector.
Put something like "If you have reached this page, then I am in the process of updating the site. Normally, clicking Forum in the navigation bar would take you to my Forum. CLICK HERE to visit my Forum." (CLICK HERE = a text link to http://addressofforumgoeshere)
    Publish your site.
(Question: Are you publishing to .Mac or to a folder?)
    2. Find your html files.
    Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
(If you publish to a folder, look in the folder you selected or try looking in your Sites folder of your home folder. )
There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
    Method 1:
Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
    Method 2:
Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
    I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!
    3. Make the html changes.
You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the .html file (as described in step 2) and click Open.
You will need to make this change in every .html page that contains the nav bar, EXCEPT Forum.html. That comes later.
    Find
    href="Forum.html"
    Replace with
    href="http://addressofforumgoeshere"
    Now in Forum.html,
    Find
    </head>
    Replace with
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0;URL=”http://addressofforumgoeshere">
and don't forget to save your changes (not Save As, just Save)!!!
    4. Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Set up a Find/Replace command in MassReplaceIt and you can do this very quickly. You can save your queries so you can make all of your changes with one click the next time you save.

  • Iweb Hyperlink can't be set up.

Just posted this on the '09 site and realized I'm '08...
I have designed my own web page. When I select a particular text word(s) (by highlight it/them) and then go to inspector:hyperlink and click "enable Hyperlink" everything below it remains grayed out, so I cannot choose a "link to" nor enter a URL.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

    Try deleting your <com.apple.iWeb.plist> file.
First make sure your domain file is in the user/library/application support/i/Web folder.
Duplicate that file and store it safely off the hard drive. (external drive, flash drive, CD, etc)
With iWeb not running, navigate to your user/library/preferences/folder and delete the <com.apple.iWeb.plist> file.
Then restart iWeb and see if that helps, if not you may have to reload iWeb.
Just make sure you have your domain file safely backed up.

  • IWeb hyperlinks not working

On the website I've created I've followed the instructions to create my hyperlinks which are supposed to link to some of my document files. The little arrows are present on the icons I'm using for each item. But when I click "make hyperlinks active" to test them as the instructions say, nothing happens. I have the documents on my computer and also "in the cloud" at my MobileMe acct. The file names appear in each selection box, but... no luck viewing them. What haven't I done? Thanks!

Hi all... I'm new at Iweb... learning as I go, scanning for similar posts, asking lots of questions... and here's a probably extremely simple one. I haven't yet published my first website - almost there. I added a word to the names of two different pages, and those changes in the nav bar were reflected on all website pages, but now I'm trying to figure out how to get the entire new page name to act as a hyperlnk, instead of just the original name. To be more specific, the original name was "project presentations", and on the nav bar I added "Film" to the page name text, which shows upon all pages, but only "project presentations" functions as a hyperlink. I imagine it's exceedingly easy - if you already know how or can simply stumble on the answer. I've played with different variations in the inspector/hyperlink menu, to no avail. If anybody has a moment to shoot me the clearly obvious answer I would most appreciate it! Thanks!

  • Can I create iWeb hyperlinks from individual slides in slideshow?

I have made a slideshow in iPhoto and dragged it onto my iWeb homepage.   I now want to make links between each individual slide and one of my pages.  Is this possible.  When I click the link icon in the inspector the slides on the slideshow will not highlight to allow links to be made.  Is there another way to do this? Thanks.

I don't know about the iWeb slideshow as I don't use it but there are lots of choices for a banner/slideshow that will do what you want...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Banner-Slideshow/Action-Banner.html
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Banner-Slideshow/Conveyor-Belt.html
The JQuery Anything slider will do a lot more than most. You can add text, links and movies as slides...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Banner-Slideshow/Anything-JQuery-Slider.html
I haven't seen anybody do that with the iWeb slideshow - yet!
Wow, Nivo and Galleria, shown on subsequent pages, can all be adapted to use hyperlinks.

  • Iweb hyperlinks

I'm new to iweb. I'm re-doing my web site that I manually entered HTML coding for. In iweb, I can't figure out to have hyperlinks appear as a different color from the main text, nor can I get it underlined. The links do work, but they are not obvious in the text. Any suggestions?

Each template has its own color scheme for links. Try a different template and find one you like

  • IWeb Hyperlinks coming up wrong

Really weird thing happening. When i hyperlink to one of my iweb pages it comes up wrong. I paste the link (whihc I have checked to be correct) but when i then click on the hyperlink it comes up as a missing page because is adds a "25" before the number "20" owards the end of the web site address. I've checked numerous times and it's not that way in the hyperlink box but for some reasons that's the web page that it tries to go to. Anyone heard of this before?

Yes, if I’ve understood it correctly, this problem has been reported here before:

  • New iWeb hyperlinks text in Safari

    I've been adding new hyperlinks (and website addresses) to my website;
    http://web.mac.com/rimmerpaula/
    - just to link to a hidden page (About Paula) and to link to lots of other external web pages (e.g Llandeilo, Winchester School of Art) but when viewed in Safari the colour of the text hasn't changed to indicate the hyperlink. (This is true of most of my new hyperlinks but not exclusively as there is the odd one that has changed colour.) This is especially bad on my new welcome page (for all my friends who have limited internet knowledge!)
When viewed in iWeb and Camino all the hyperlinks are the dark gold colour. When viewed in Safari they are the same colour as the main text.
Although this is a very minor detail, a lot of my friends have a very basic knowledge of the internet and would miss these links.
Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

varkgirl's right... the color of the link changes depending on whether the link has been visited or not. There is also a color change when you hover over the link. So in all there are three states... normal, rollover, and visited.
You can change the colors of these different states by using this pretty cool piece of software... Hyperlink Shader...maybe you would like all three states to be gold. It's very easy to use...
