IWork 08 documents

As a long-term user of Pages, I have many old pages documents in my archives that were created in iWork 08 which seem, now, to be incomprehensible to 6.0
The only way I can find to get around the problems is to launch Pages 5, re-save the the file, then open open it again using Pages 6.0 which will then convert it to the latest file format.
Am I missing something? Do I really have to go through every document in my archives and convert them in Pages 5 now (before it stops functioning through lack of support) so that it is not lost forever to the current and future versions of Pages?

There isn't any Pages 6. The latest is Pages 5.
You have to convert Pages 08 (vers 3) to Pages 09 (vers 4) so you can open them in Pages 5 (some say Pages 13).
My advise is to not get Pages 5 if you don't need it for moving documents over the iCloud to iOs devices and back.
You can use Pages 08 on MacOs 10.9 Mavericks.
Wait a year and keep your ear to the ground to hear if Pages 5 have gotten back features that was lost.

Hi,
I was wondering if I can choose which iWork documents to store on iCloud? I have a lot of iWork files on my work Mac but I don't want them all on iCloud, just a couple that I'm currently working on, so that I can easily access and edit them when I'm at home or on the road.

You are free, if you want to store your iWorks documents in the cloud or locally on your mac. The file choser dialog, when you are saving the document, will let you save it either in iCloud or in a folder on your mac. If you later change your mind, you can move the document between your local storage oand the cloud.

The file choser when saving a document. iCloud is the default, but you can select any of your favorites.

Can't Delete iWork Documents

Whenever I try to empty the trash with an iWork document inside, it says they're in use, but I didn't open them at all.

When they've been in the trash for a while, they can be emptied. I think it's answered.

Download iWork documents from iCloud to Mac in Pages 5.0 and Numbers 3.0

Does anyone know how to download iWork documents from iCloud to Mac, most specifically from Pages 5.0 and Numbers 3.0. It seems that Apple have taken away the ability to do so, as in the past I believe there was a download button... All I am trying to do is download the document to attach and send via Gmail.
Extremely frustrating as I can't find any discussion surrounding this problem.

Have you tried right-clicking the document to get an option to download it.

IWork documents will not open in Preview or display with Quicklook

I have recently upgraded to OSX Mavericks and updated to the latest version of iWork (including the fresh installation of Numbers and Pages). However new iWork documents are not are not displaying in Finder with a preview thumbnail, or opening with either Quicklook or Preview. I only see the Pages, Keynote, and Numbers document icons.
The issue is isolated to new iWork documents, as iWork 09 documents still work, as well as most other standard file formats.
I have checked the Quicklook folder my Library, and have the latest 3.0 version of iWork.qlgenerator.
I have tried restarting Finder and Quicklook (in Terminal), as well as restarting the machine. However this has not solved the problem.
It’s not the end of the world, but it is inconvenient.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone suggest a solution?

I don't have any Appleworks files but Numbers & Pages users manuals say they will import Appleworks 6 files. I can't say why yours will not if they are Appleworks 6 documents.
I also don't have MacLinkPlus but it might be doing one of two things: saving in a pre-'97 format of Excel or saving with non-standard header information in the file that Numbers does not understand.
I'm not being of much help so far. I've been looking all over and haven't found a solution for you. Sorry.

Is there a way to use Automator or AppleScript to convert iWork documents to Office Documents?

I use iWork for my documents, but I sometimes need to convert a folder of iWork files to Microsoft Office files. It's one thing to convert one iWork document, but it's very tedious when I need to convert multiple documents. I'm hoping to be able to automate this process. By the way, I'm using the latest versions of the iWork applications, which I know have a lot less or no Automator support.

Interestingly, the only Pages specific command in the AppleScript dictionary for Pages 5.1 is Export, and Word is one of the available formats. I have no idea how well it works (and no interest in producing Word docs) but it might be possible to do this for Pages documents.
Numbers 3.1 has just added AppleScript support, but it does not have an Export command.
I don't have Keynote to check.

Missing fonts in iWork documents

My iWork apps keep giving me missing font document warnings when I launch Pages, Keynote and Numbers documents. This is a problem already reported by many other iWork users but I haven't found a satisfactory solution and I'm hoping someone here can help.
When launching an existing Pages document, I get this document warning:
Here's what I see in the Font Chooser. Helvetica has got some new variants like '.Light Oblique'. What the??
But if I quit Pages and then create a new document, I don't get any warnings. The Font Chooser also behaves as usual:
I've validated my fonts, deleted the font cache, repaired permissions in an attempt to fix the problem with no success. What should I do?

I'd like to add perhaps a slightly different perspective to this problem. I'm a graphic designer and use Insider Software's FontAgent Pro to manage all of the fonts on my machine. I use Font Book only to manage the few system fonts that are necessary to run the OS.
I keep the number of activated fonts to a minimum and regularly clean out the font caches to prevent any problems with all of the design apps that I use. I've done this for years and haven't experienced any font-related problems for a long, long time.
When I want to use Helvetica/Neue Helvetica (which is rarely), I use PostScript Type 1 versions of those fonts. I don't want to reinstall the dfont version of Helvetica, because that will create conflicts with the fonts in my commercial work.
Whenever I open or create an iWork document I get the Missing Font error mentioned in this thread. The new version of iWork lets me select a substitute font, but my choice never seems to "stick." Once I close the document and reopen it, the same message reappears. iWork seems to assume that every document must use the dfont version of Helvetica/Helvetica Neue, regardless of what I want.
Why can't I specify what font I'd like to use, and have it become the default for all of the iWork apps? Until Apple fixes this problem the whole suite will have to remain shelfware and I'll keep using Office. I'd prefer to use iWork, but at least Office doesn't insist on nagging me about my font choices.

IWork-documents in the cloud

Anyone else having trouble with iWork-documents in the cloud today? I cannot connect to the thru my iOS-devices, neither upload new from my mac.

I have the same problem:
I can only see "Get iWork for iOS" on my iCloud page. Yes, everything is up to date and Documents & Data is set to on both in the iCloud pane and the iWork apps panes.

How do i sync my iWork documents to iCloud from my Mac?

I can't seem to sync my documents with iCloud from my mac. I've installed the latest update for Lion and there are no updates avaiable from any of the iWork applications. The Douments I create on my iPad are there but I can't seem to sync them with my mac.
This is a really important for me as i am a part time student and i work too, so i have to squeeze whatever time i can whenever i can to produce work. I can't always carry my macbook pro so i need to work from my iPad too and i dont have time to keep copying all my files across. I have used dropbox and google documents until now.

It would appear that there's no direct way to synchronize iWork document between a Mac and iCloud the way there was with iDisk, or at least I haven't found mention of it anywhere, and I've been searching for it as I juggle between my iPhone and my Mac all the time. The iDisk sync wasn't automatic on iPhone, whereas iCloud is, which is great, but if you want the files on your Mac, you need to log on to iCloud from a browser, download the files you want, work on them and reupload them. Not exactly what I call seemless.
Hopefully Apple will make iCloud more easily accessible from Finder soon.

IPad doesn't see iWork documents in iCloud

I bought a new 4th generation iPad yesterday and immediately installed Pages & Numbers, thinking I would be able to access all the iWork documents I have in in iCloud. Thus far I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. I have iCloud turned on (on the iPad) and when I opened Pages and Number I got the dialog box saying iCloud was available...did I want to use it. I clicked YES for both apps, but still I don't see any way to view the iWork documents I currently have in iCloud. I don't have any such issues between iClouds and my desktop Mac. Any suggestions? Disregard. It apparently took about 15 minutes for the sync to occur and now I'm seeing my iCloud documents on my iPad.

In Finder preferences > General, I changed New Finder windows show: from All My Files to my short login name. This reduces the confusion in presented files.
You can control where you retrieve or save iWork documents via the open and Save.../Save As... dialogs -- or with drag & drop -- be that local or iCloud. I have Pages documents in iCloud that do not reside on my local disk. I can always retrieve them from iCloud to local storage as needed. You certainly can remove a local copy of a document that you already have saved in iCloud.
The act of saving a document to iCloud does not create a duplicate (backup) copy on your local storage.

IWork Documents on my iPhone

I have a lot of iWork documents on my iDisk.
I realize iDisk is not part of iCloud and that it will en in June.
I have set up my iCloud on my MacBook Pro and iPhone 4 (Documents turned On on both). How do I get these two syincing the new documents I create on either one?

However, since I asked the question my documents have started to sync. No idea why, nothing has changed in my settings apart from a restart of all devices...but it's working so issue solved!

If you want to create folders in iCloud to organize your documents, it's much easier if you are using OS X Mountain Lion and iWork '09. Just open Pages and you will see the iCloud window. Drag one file to another one to create a folder in iCloud.
If you aren't using OS X Mountain Lion, open http://www.icloud.com, log in with your Apple ID and choose iWork. Then, if your documents aren't in iCloud, drag them to your Internet browser. If they are there, just drag one file to another one to create a folder in iCloud

Is it possible to add an extension/add-on/plugin to iWork document that gets called at the time of opening a document and saving a document? This add on will basically see the file type being opened and for specific file types,this add-on will convert the file being opened to iWork format when opening and convert to the custom format when saving.

Numbers has not built-in facility for plugins. It does support Applescript and can, therefore invoke Applescripts from a menu or be included in performing task in an Applescript.

Can I open documents created in iWorks on my windows machine at work?

No, you can't open iWork documents with anything on Windows.
If you export to something that can be opened by Windows applications like .doc and .ppt, then, yes, you can open and print them.
If printing is the most important thing, print to a .pdf and, if you have Acrobat on the Windows PC, you should be able to print it successfully.
