Iwork apps won't open any files on new iMac

just got my new imac. my original iwork purchase was from a CD, so i reinstalled it on the new mac from the original disc, did all the updates, and now can only create new documents. none of the apps will open existing iwork or microsoft documents. it still works on my old computer.
in numbers, i get the error message "The document - - - could not be opened."
in pages and keynote, i get the error message "An unexpected error has occurred. Please quit and reopen Keynote."
since i didn't purchase via the app store, i can't update from there, so i went to apple's site for the latest updates. i believe i'm up to date:
numbers '09, v 2.3
pages v 4.3
keynote v 5.3
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
susan

update :
after numerous calls and efforts with apple care, i decided to try purchasing the app directly from the app store (which i was reluctant to do since i already owned the iworks '09 disk). and it worked. so i'm out $40 (didn't buy keynote yet). but at least i have something that works. and i didn't need to reinstall the  OS like the apple care people wanted to try...
hope this helps others in the same boat.

  • IWork suite won't open any file or template

Hey guys, I just installed iWork 09 and when ever I open it and choose to start from a template or blank document the circle keeps spinning on that document forever and then just freezes. I can't do anything past this point. I reinstalled it, did my permissions check, updated but nothing seems to work. Anyone help?

Previous person who had this problem had a corrupt downloaded version of iWork, which is not hard as it is a large and long DL.
I have noticed lately a tendency for Safari to DL some files and mark them as complete even though they are actually short.
DL it again or buy the boxed version.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 won't open any files, not even create new ones

I have a freshly installed version of Photoshop CC 2014 and it just won't open any single file no matter what I do.  I also have Illustrator CC 2014 installed for the past week, and it is behaving fine, and even opening up the files that Photoshop won't open (jpg, psd, png, etc.).
I've tried uninstalling completely, and reinstalling it, and it still won't open any files.  Basically, nothing happens after I click the "Open" button from the Open File dialog window.
I've also try resetting my user preferences using this video tutorial, and it also didn't resolve the problem: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html
Has anyone else experienced this or can give information on how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

Well, I finally got it to work through trial and error.  Here were the steps that I used to get it to work:
    1) Make sure that you are not behind any firewall/VPN/etc, just a direct connection to the internet (if possible).  I use Adobe for my work laptop, and I was informed that this could potentially be an issue during installation processes.
    2) Uninstall Photoshop via the Creative Cloud application interface.
    3) Right-click on the Creative Cloud icon from the system tray and "Quit" (it was automatically started for me from a previous bootup)
    4) Right-click on the Creative Cloud desktop icon and choose "Run As Administrator"
    5) Re-install Photoshop
After performing the above steps, I can now open any png/jpg/gif/etc file, as well as start a new file.  I have no clue why it works or if my steps played any role in fixing it, but I thought it was worth sharing for others to try if they encounter a similar issue.  It could be either the firewall I was behind, or the permissions (I don't think Creative Cloud boots up running as administrator).  But I am in no position to say I know the exact resolution.  Hope this helps!

  • Dreamweaver CS5 won't open any files from a project

    Hi,
I'm working on a simple website. I work on it from 2 different locations (home and work), and the files are stored on a removable USB disk. The problem is that for some reason Dreamweaver won't open any files made on the other computer. It shows the sitemap, eveything. But when I click on a file, nothing happens.
I've tried a couple of things:
    1. recreate the site in the site manager - still the same problem
    2. remove the preference folder - still the same problem
The only solution is that I have to copy the files to my desktop, recreate the website in the sitemanager and then it works. But only if I copy the files to my desktop, any other location on my HD (not the removable USB disk) simply doesn't work.
Does anybody know why this happens? Or even better, does anybody have a tip of how to workaround this problem?
    thanks!

The D600 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and later - not CS5 unfortunately.

    FREE
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all D600 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS5

  • Why has my Preview stopped responding and won't open any files?

Why has my Preview stopped responding and won't open any files?
Each time I try to open Preview it just hangs and I have to close the Prog by "Force Quit"

    nerbyad,
Sorry to hear you are having this issue today.
Does this happen on all files or a specific file?
If this is happening on a specific file, it is most likely that file.
If this is happening on all files, I would check to see if this is happening in other users accounts as well.  If you dont have other users, create one and see if preview works inside that new user account.
    Let me know...

  • Photoshop CC won't open any files

I just installed PS CC on a clean machine, did nothing else, no moving of files or plugins.  No Adobe products on the PC before this install.  And I am unable to open any files in PS, that include opening a new untitled document.  Nothing ever opens.  What is going ON!?  Fresh installation from Creative Cloud app tool.
System is Windows 8.1, no previous Adobe products on this box.  Not impressed with Creative Cloud if this is how the tools work right out of the gate.  Staff, any suggestions?

PS CS6 had the same problems initially.  I did a restart of the system and now it seems to be working.  So I'd make sure you tell people if they install or reinstall, try a system reboot before suggesting they start killing apps.  I think that's a red herring.
The symptoms and sequence of work-around's I had were the following, which might help in understanding what was going wrong.  Note, only PS seems to be affected as all other CC apps I tried successfully opened and created their file types.
Install several apps via Creative Cloud app (PS, AI, etc)
Launch PS CC (and PS CC64)
Would get an error dialog during launch about a defective existing monitor color profile (choosing 'Ignore' or 'Use' made no difference).
Try to create new file (File\New).
On first attempt you get the New Dialog UI.  Select any choices, doesn't seem to matter, none resulted in a successful New Untitled windows opening.
On second attempt of File\New you get no New Dialog UI.
Try to open any existing image file on my system (any format), via File menu, or drag drop.  Result is nothing, no document window opens.  No errors reported by app.  Just silent failure.
Uninstall PS CC. NOTE Creative Cloud app doesn't provide an uninstall option, must be done by system Control Panel.
Attempt to reinstall PS CC via Creative Cloud app, but could not because it didn't update as 'uninstalled'.  Still listed PS CC as an installed app. ??
Went to Adobe site to CC Download center to initiate new install from there, but that didn't help either because it launches Creative Cloud app which still thought PS CC was already installed.
Chose PS CS6 instead so I could at least install something PS.
Test new install of PS CS6, all the same bug behavior as with PS CC.  Identical to experience with PS CC.
Restart PC.  PS CS6 works fine now.
Not going to try to reinstall PS CC because I just don't trust this stuff now.  Will stay with PS CS6 because its now working.
Hope this helps you guys.  I see a lot of people in the forums complaining about various similar issues with opening files.  Something you really should address.

  • Preview app fails to open any file, console log shows errors messages

    Hi,
I backed up my old mac using TimeMachine and restored the TimeMachine image to my newly purchased iMac running 10.9.4.  There were no errors during restoration, however when I try to open a file with the Preview app (such as a jpeg file), Preview app doesn't open the file and emits a variety of errors to the console log as below.
Is there a way to clear the state of the Preview app so I can fix this issue and use the Preview app to open images again?  These image files open fine in Chrome, but I can't seem to use Preview to open any files.
Not sure if this is a bug with system restore or a bug in the new OS.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi,
I tried both suggestions, but they didn't resolve the issue.   Thank you both for trying to help.
The font tool was crashing when I tried to validate my font files.  I looked and I didn't see the font in question listed in that tool.  Crash stack is below.
I reinstalled the OS per Linc's instructions, but Preview still is crashing when opening a jpeg file.  Crash stack is below.
Weirdly, most everything else seems to work okay: mail, safari, chrome, etc, all seem to function with no issue.  The font tool isn't something I care about, but Preview app is something I use to review my pictures, etc.
Any other suggestions?  Is there a good alternative app I should use in the meantime to replace Preview while I get to the bottom of the problem and resolve it?
    Thanks,
    Norm

  • Photoshop won't open any files!

application opens fine, but won't open any pics(jpg, tiff, psd, etc.) It won't even open a new file image. Please help!!!! This is a school emergency

If you go to up to the top menus and look under the Window menu, do you see your file listed at the bottom of the Window drop down? If so, it's open but not visible. Did you ever have a second monitor hooked up to the computer? It could be that Photoshop thinks the monitor you are looking at is the second one instead of the main. You may have to go into your display settings to make sure you don't have a second monitor that you're not using, or have your main monitor set up as your secondary. If all else fails, try to delete the Photoshop settings file. Hold cmd-alt-shift (for Mac, or the PC equivalent in windows) while Photoshop is opening and confirm to delete the settings file when prompted. That usually clears up most problems.

  • Color & RAM use: Won't open any files

I'm using Color on an Intel iMac running 1gig of RAM. It won't open any quickimte movie clip, exported xml version 4 files and if i export a clip from my FCP timeline, the program will launch, but nothing happens. all the screens appear but the video never appears. Is this a RAM issue or a faulty install? I have an identical machine with the exact same specs and it runs perfectly.

COLOR doesn't care much about those things. Well, a little, but the most important deal-breaking item is the video card/display. There are some GPU's that COLOR will NOT run on, and some that it will boot in a crippled configuration. Check in your About this Mac to make sure that you don't have an incompatible video display device. There are more of those than there are compatible ones, which is pretty narrow. It is not for nothing that a PCIe device is recommended.

  • PS CS5 Won't open any files

When I try and open any file I get the error 'Could not complete your request because of a program error' I have reinstalled PS CS5
and upgraded to OS 10.7.5 and still the same error.

  • Macbook Pro won't open any files, safari or app store

Hi, last night my macbook (15-inch, Late 2008) froze completely and wouldn't let me turn off or restart, so I had to wait until the battery ran out to reboot. When i rebooted it seemed the macbook had completely reset , all my files are all grouped under "all my files" instead of their designated folder, and the image of each file (e.g. usually a note if a song) had gone.
When trying to open a file it does not let me, the same goes for a few applications including Safari, App Store and programs i had bought previously.

This is what your problem is.  You have received a MBP that has all of the App store applications registered under the sellers name.
You should have received the MBP with the original OSX disks so that you could set it up in your name and with your ID.  Ask the seller if he has the original disks and a Snow Leopard retail disk.  (10.6.8 is needed to install Lion, Mt. Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite)
If not, you will have to at the very least purchase a Snow Leopard disk from the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You will have to install Snow Leopard and then run software update to upgrade it to 10.6.8.
If you connect a HDD to your MBP via USB, with this disk, you can install Snow Leopard on the external HDD.
    Ciao.

  • Pages won't open ANY file, old or new

Pages '09 won't open previously saved documents (.pages or .doc), or open a new document from template. When attempting to open a previously saved document, I get the error message "The document "document-name.pages" couldn't be opened." Pages, as a program, however, stays open. When attempting to open a new document from a template, the progress indicator simply spins forever and does not open a document.
Keynote and Numbers work just fine, both being able to open old and new documents.
When opening an old document, Pages creates these Console messages:
    5/25/09 7:10:01 PM Pages[211] Assertion failure: Method: markerOfType:forRulerView:atLocation:listLevelActive:
    Object: <SFWPRulerMarker 0x2d10800>
    File: /SourceCache/iWorkShared/iWorkShared-408/sfwordprocessing/SFWPRulerMarker.mm
    Line #: 202
we should have had an image or an image resource name
5/25/09 7:10:01 PM Pages[211] Exception opening document: * -[SFWPRulerMarker initWithRulerView:markerLocation:image:imageOrigin:]: no image given. NSRulerMarkers must have an image.
5/25/09 7:10:01 PM Pages[211] Failed to open document, but no unrecoverable error
I have tried deleting user, system, and font caches, deleting iWork preference files, and reinstalling iWork, but none of this has worked.

Well I finally got it to work. I uninstalled and AppTrap grabbed a few preference files that belonged to Pages and I allowed it to delete them all. I rebooted and installed iWork again, but I got the same issue, again. I was attempting to select a blank document style from the Template Chooser, but it wouldn't open any, just spinning the wheel in the template preview in the Template Chooser window. I went into preferences and told it to create new files using the Blank template, and that worked. However, it wouldn't let me use the Template Chooser to open a new document.
I saved the new document, created from the Blank template in Template Chooser, to the desktop. I double-clicked on this document and it said it couldn't be opened? However, I could open it from inside Pages, just not by opening the document and having it use the default application (Pages) to open it with.
Lots of odd stuff going on here. I came to the idea that something residual was sitting on my HD, and decided to try a better cleaning. I opened Clean My Mac and dropped Pages on the Applications window. Clean My Mac did a scan and identified a ton of items pertaining to uninstalling Pages, nearly 900MB of misc documents, caches, and other stuff. At this point I wasn't too worried about deleting the wrong thing, as I am nearly ready to wipe and reinstall, whatever it takes to straighten it out.
After removing everything, I did a reboot just to be safe. Then in reinstalled iWork 09, and attempted to open documents using Template Chooser. SUCCESS! However, I remembered that it worked just fine until I applied the 9.0.2 update to iWork, so I was cautiously doubtful that I would be able to work this time once I applied the update. Well, it seems CleanMyMac pulled something off that was complicating things, possibly from the old iWork '08 version, or the Trial Version? I'm not really sure.
Anyhow, thanks for the help and suggestions. I've got a bunch of errors showing-up in the Console, and slowly, little-by-little, I'm working on trying to research and solve them all. I wish I could find a good source for referencing all of the errors that are showing-up, as this seems like it'll take a long time.
    Thanks again!
    Pete
