J4550

Black will not print.  Cartridge is using up ink and used 1/4 now.  The color prints.  Printed OK on May 24th.  Scanned letter, printed in "blue".  Will not print any e-mails (they are in black).  Reinstalled printer, reinstalled black cartridge, checked all settings, cleaned print heads using computer setting.  Have spent appx 8 hours on this problem. 

A teacher at our computer club had the answer.  She said the original black cartridge did not have much ink in it.  I only printed 3 or 4 pages besides the messing around trying to get it to print.  Put in 901X and it works.  At least for now.

    I'd like to help.  For now, I would hold off on the uninstall and reinstall.  Can you answer some questions?
    Is the printer connected by USB, Ethernet or wireless?
    Do you get any error messages?
    Does a blank page come out or do no pages come out when you try to print from the computer?
    If you put a document face down on the scanner glass, are you able to make a photocopy?
    Can you estimate the ink levels, in percent full for each cartridge, by looking at the printer ink gauge?  Click Here 
    If you print a  Self Test Report,  do all of the colors print?

  • Solution Center problem with HP Office Jet J4550 and windows 7 (64bit)

    Hello All,
    I have a problem. I have the Solution Center and a HP Office Jet J4550 and windows 7 (64bit). When ever I open the solution center, the solution center says " HP office jet J4550 series disconnected" When I open HP document manager, I can access the printer.  Additionally, when I run the HP Print Diagnostic Utility 4.0, it sees the printer, no issues. I can print test pages. No issues. I downloaded the latest driver from the HP site (OJJ4500_Full_13, 299,359KB) Your insight is appreciated.

    I have a similar problem with the J4580 and my new Windows 7 64-bit laptop.  HP Solution Center says that the printer is disconnected.  Furthermore, it can print some documents (short ones), but it was unable to print a 1-page 5MB pdf file.  The printer truncated the page after printing just the top 10%.   The printer is OK with my wife's Windows 7 32-bit laptop.
    I've seen many other people complain about similar problems in this and other forums.  Apparently the driver for J4500 printers is not compatible with Windows 7 64-bit.  Can HP please provide an updated driver or patch?

  • HP all in one J4550-won't print blue

    I have a 5 month old printer, HP all in one J4550.  Last month we put in a new color cartridge (from Rapid Refill, a very reputable place for re-manufactured ink cartridges) & now we are totally missing one color, blue. I have gotten a replacement thinking it was the cartridge and am having the same problem. I have done all of the cleanings and I've even swabbed the contacts with alcohol.  Any other suggestions?  Is it possible that the remanufactered cartridge ruined something?  Help!!

  • J4550 All In One Two Sided Printing Option Lost after re-installation!?!?!?

    Was wondering what I am doing wrong.
    My computer crashed over the weekend and I had to restore to factory defaults.
    I re-installed the printer from the installation disk that came with my All in One J4550.
    I opened up a powerpoint of some menus I had made and printed before.
    When I went to print out these menus there was no option available for 2 sided manual printing in the printing options/preferences page.
    Before the reinstallation I had been able to print up menus using the 2-sided printing. Now it's nowhere to be found. Was this option maybe made available through an update or something?? I have downloaded several to no avail. Thanks for your help!

    if you goto the HP Officjet J4550 Printing Preferences > Printing Shortcuts tab, do you see "Manually" available in the  "Print On Both Sides" option?
    if you goto the HP Officjet J4550 Printing Preferences > features tab, do you see the "Manual" avilable in the "two sided printing options"? if you couldnt' see the "two sided printing optios" at all it might be due to you have unchecked the "enabled advanced printing features" in the print driver. to enable this you can
    1. right click on the HP Officejet J4500 printer icon
    2. click on the advanced tab
    3. check "enabled advanced printing features"
    4. now if you go back to printing preference again you should see the "two sided printing options "available in the feature tab

  • Setting Up HP Officejet J4550

    Hello,
    I have downloaded the drivers for my brand new HP Officejet J4550 printer from hp.com. When I go to set up my printer, my computer is unable to find my new printer and I'm instructed to go to the hp.com website to download the appropriate drivers. Of course, I've already performed this step, not once, not twice but three times.
    All to no avail.
    I would love to be able to use all the functions such as scanning and faxing, that are available on this printer.
    Does anybody know how to get around this glitch on my brand new "All-in-One" printer, so that I don't (AGAIN!) get stuck with a machine that can only print and copy?

    Yes, I have installed the downloaded software and checked for updates. I get stuck at the setup phase. That's when the computer can't seem to find my new printer and I'm then instructed to go onto HP's website and download the necessary drivers - which of course, I've already done.

    I inherited an older Mac with an OSX 10.5.8 operating sytem. I am trying to connect my Officejet J4550 All-in-One printer to it but the HP drivers on the MAC do not reference my pinter. Is there a similar driver I could use to activate my printer?

    My personal opinion is that it is a problem from some books that have been published via Smashwords. That has been my experience for one or two books I've downloaded. I contacted the author in one case and he replied:
    "Just to let you know I've had some feedback from Smashwords about the odd display issue. It's relates to the line spacing in the original document, apparently. I'll be uploading a fixed version to them in the near future, though it might take a while for the new version to trickle down to the iBookstore."
    So I dunno if your book is published by Smashwords, but if it is it may be worth contacting author?

    WIA is Windows Image Acquisition, it is a proprietary Microsoft driver model and application programming interface (API) for Microsoft Windows Me and later Windows operating systems that enables graphics software to communicate with imaging hardware such as scanners, digital cameras and Digital Video-equipment. - Source
     Please follow the instructions below.
    Please hold down the windows flag key and the R to open the Run box.
    Type services.msc and press Enter
    Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    Right click and open Properties
    Stop the service from the General tab and then Start it again
    Verify that the Startup type is set to Automatic rather then manual
    Also, look for 'Shell Hardware Detection' in the list of services. If it is not enabled/started, make sure to enable/start the service, and make sure the Startup Type set as Automatically from its properties.
    Locate the 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)' in the list of services. If it is not enabled/started, make sure to enable/start the service, and make sure the Startup Type set as Automatically as well.
    If the issue persist, the HP Print and Scan Dr might help, otherwise I suggest contacting Microsoft.

  • J4550 error message "Alignmnet page not detected" -alignment page prints ok

    j4550 Printer will not align. Alignment page prints correctly (per HP website), but scanning page gives an error message "Alignment page not found". Printer copies fine. Default alignment results in blurred printing.

    Hello , Welcome to the thread!  I understand that your HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One A909a Printer is experiencing Printhead and Alignment failures. Because you have already replaced both the Cyan and Magenta Printhead (twice) and Black and Yellow Printhead in the past and the issues continue to occur over time I believe that the Printhead sensor or print system within the actual printer is going. Should this occur then print system issues, such as Alignment, Printhead, cartridge, quality, etc issues will occur and will usually become worse over time. Therefore, rather then replacing the Printheads it may be time to replace the actual printer. With that being said, there are a few troubleshooting steps that I would like you to complete to resolve this issue.   To start, please click here . Once the support document opens please review all of the listed Solutions and sub-steps to ensure that all steps have been completed. Should the issue persist, then a Firmware Update may be needed on your printer. However, I do need to know what Operating System you're using on your computer in order to provide you with the correct Firmware Update. The Firmware is the internal programming within your printer. It controls what your printer does and how your printer does it. If there is a corruption within the internal programming in your machine, your HP Officejet may not respond correctly.   Please respond to this post with the result of your Alignment Failed troubleshooting.     I had this problem before and was able to talk to a technician and found I had no default printer when he told me how to do that it fixed my problem.  The printer functions like it will print takes paper in but when it comes out it is blank Ink levels are fine ran through all the checks with power and if computer is working ok everything checks out fine.  It just won't print anything on paper.

    I have a HP Pavillion Slimline 400 and my will not scan or copy, and only prints from certain sites.  I have uninstalled and installed the software driver numerous times and still get a "scanner not working" message.  I have also unplugged and turned off and replugged in the USB and the power cords several times.  Currently, I have uninstalled the printer software, so I have no recognizable printer on my PC.  Help!!

    Welcome to the HP Forums.
    I see that you are having an issue with scanning and printing from a select few sites.
    I have a few steps that we can try to troubleshoot this issue.
    First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
    As for printing from web pages, please make sure that you have your firewall or anti virus settings turned down as well as the Pop-up blocker disabled.  If this does not resolve the issue, maybe try another web browser such as Mozilla fire fox or Google Chrome.
    As for the scanning issue,  so I can better assist you, please respond with which Operating System you are running:
