Jabber on iphone connects no audio with VPN

I recently upgraded my Cisco call manager so I could leverage the Cisco jabber client. Once installed and configured on my LAN it was flawless. We are just using the soft phone feature on iPhone . After installing the Cisco any connect mobile VPN client I was able to connect The jabber client to my call manager. I can place a call when the other party picks up the line goes silent. I hear a ring and then nothing.
Call manger is 7.1.5 ( the last 7 versions not 100% sure)

Hi Kurt,
Is the ASA allowing the RTP packets to go through? Can you check if the RTP ports are open?

  • Jabber for iPhone 9.6 Integration with OpenLDAP

Hi everyone! i just found an issue when try to integrated jabber for iphone version 9.6 with OpenLDAP that seem like not working and want to describe my environment as below.
    Using BE6K 9.1 includes,
         - CUCM 9.1.2
         - IM&Presense 9.1
         - Jabber for Window 9.6 integrate with OpenLDAP using EDI on jabber-config.xml is working properly.
         - Jabber for iPhone 9.6 integrate with OpenLDAP using BDI on jabber-config.xml not working(cannot lookup)
         - Jabber Voice for iPhone and Android can integrate with OpenLDAP which configure in phone configuration
         - Both of Jabber can't access the photo in OpenLDAP with "jpegPhoto" attribute.
By the way im also included jabber-config.xml files for further troubleshooting. Another question, is it possible to include EDI and BDI for working together in one jabber-config.xml file
One another file is jabber for iphone log when im trying to search "anu" word in searching box

    Hi noom_ekkalak ,
    Thanks for your answer!
I have specific LDAP parameter in TCT phone configuration as you say, then try to connect the "Directory" setting in Jabber Voice, but it didn't work . i just get the error “Unable to verify account” all the time.   :(
Besides this ,is there anything i need to specific? How did you specific Jabber Voice "Directory" parameter?
    Thank you!

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and just did the update to IOS 5. Now I can't connect to my Netgear wifi router. My iPhone connects fine along with all of my other laptops etc. I have the router set with WPA-PSK [TKIP] security and an access list. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

  • I cannot print to my photosmart 7510 when connected to work with VPN

When I try to print to my printer while connected to VPN, I get an error that the software could not communicate with my printer. The IT department where I work has configured the VPN so that traffic to my local LAN is allowed (does not go through the tunnel). I had no problem printing to my old printer when connected with VPN (old printer was a photosmart 2510 connected via wireless network).
These symptoms lead me to believe that the printer software is attempting to connect to the internet when I send a print job to my local printer. Why is it doing that? What settings do I need to change to make it stop so that I can print while connected with VPN?

But I don't understand why the internet connection that my printer has comes into play when I'm sending a print job from my PC to my printer over my local network. I am not using the web services at all for that particular function.
At least I shouldn't be - I don't know what the HP print software installed on my PC is doing under the hood. The software shouldn't have to access the internet to send a print job locally. Nor should my printer have to access the internet in order to receive the print job from my PC.
What exactly is the printer or the print software accessing the internet for when I send a print job from my PC to my printer over my local network?

  • Remotely connect to network with VPN

I'd like to remotely connect to our local network using VPN. I've tried vnc://external_IP.., but it fails with a message that screen sharing is not engaged.
How can I access this local network and specifically, individual Macs on the network?

First, you need to establish which VPN protocols can be used to connect to your network - your IT people should be able to give you this information. If it's a Cisco or L2TP/PPTP VPN connection, you should be able to use the Network Preferences to create a new VPN connection and use the appropriate login information to connect.
If you have an IPSec VPN system, you can use the free IPSecuritas to connect.
Either way, you need to get the detailed connection parameters from your network admin before you can connect from the outside world. Once you're connected, you should be able to connect to any local services (screen sharing, file sharing, etc) using local addresses instead of external IP addresses.
    hope that helps
    Matt

    The equipment:
Iphone 4S 16gb VZW with personal hotspot
    Ipad 3 32gb wi-fi only
    The issue:
I turn on the personal hotspot on the phone, connect to the ipad over wi-fi or bluetooth and surf the web flawlessly. I turn on the VPN on the ipad and cannot access my work network. I check the IP address of the phone prior to the connection of the VPN and it registers a VZW IP that the phone is supposed to broadcast. I turn the VPN in and the ipad reflects the VPN IP address that I'm trying to connect to back to the phone and THAT is what the phone tries to project. My RMS vendor and our network provider have both been identified as not being the culprit. I've spent about 8 hours on the phone with an IOS Senior Advisor and we are both perplexed by this. He has been gracious enough to maintain daily contact with me and he's forwarded it up to those higher than him.
This worked back in April of this year and quit working in May or June. That means it worked on IOS5 and quit working IOS 5.
    Anyone else having these issues?

This is a user to user help forum only. You are not addressing Apple here.
My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3.

  • Jabber Phone Client iPhone 5 no audio

    Here is the scenario:
I am working with an iPhone 5 with the Jabber Phone client installed on it
I am running CUCM 8.5 and the latest Jabber Phone client
I have the corporate wireless network configured on the phone and the phone is able to successfully connect to the wireless
I am able to successfully initiate a call from the Jabber Phone client to a phone within the corporation
I am able to successfully receive a call from a phone within the corporation to the Jabber Phone client installed on the iPhone
When trying to talk on the iPhone 5 using the Jabber client there is no audio from the iPhone. I have a similar setup on an Android phone using the same wireless network with no audio issues at all.
Does anyone know of any problems running the Jabber Phone client on the iPhone 5 with no audio coming from the iPhone?

I know its a old post, But did you find the solution. ?
I`m having a similar issue with an Iphone 4 running IOS 7.0.4. The iphone connects correctly and i`m able to make calls and receive calls , but there`s no audio. Only when i put the Iphone on Speaker i`m able to hear the call. I checked if there were restictions in place regarding the use of the microphone/audio for the application but there are none in place. The internal Phone its working correctly so i did rule out any Hardware issue, i also tested the profile on another Iphone 4 and it works correctly. This sounds like an IOS issue but i dont seem to find any information searching on the internet.
The current version installed is Jabber 9.2(5).

  • Jabber for IPhone/IPad and Anyconnect VPN

I have just setup Jabber for iPhone and iPad in a CUCM 8.6/Presence 8.6 enviornment.  Works great when on my wireless network at work.
The problem I have is that it doesn't work with Anyconnect VPN.  Running 8.4 code and can access the CUPS website from the iPhone/iPad when on vpn.  It just will not connect the Jabber clients.  I have attached the logs for review.
There is only one difference in our wireless connectivity and VPN connectivity that I can think of at this point.  Could it be my DHCP configuration not offering option 150 for tftp on the VPN?  I am using a local pool on the ASA but it doesn't offer option 150 for tftp.

It's been a while so I don't recall exactly what I did.  That said: I want to say that I connected it via the wireless network to let it pull down it's configuration and after it pulled down the initial configuration I was good to go on VPN.

  • Jabber call to voice mail fails with fast busy over VPN

I have an issue that I ran into with CIPC phones over a VPN.  If a CIPC phone called over a VPN and started ringing a phone the call would fail with fast busy at the time the call would be forwarded to voicemail.  I found the issue was when remote the CIPC phone would negotiate the g.729 codec, when forwarded to a voicemail pilot over a SIP trunk set to g.711 the call would fail due to codec missmatch when no transcoders are present.
So now I am running into what I believe to be the same issue with Jabber, when on premise the calls to voice mail work just fine, but when remote they fail.  I can directly call the voicemail pilot without error, but if calling a phone the call gets fast busy at the point we are forwarded to voicemail.  Even though all my regions are set to talk to all other regions on G.711 and the voicemail SIP trunk is set to G.711, I believe with the new features in CUCM9 that a lower speed codec has been negotiated since the we are going over the VPN, or Jabber has done this as it knows it's over VPN (not sure).  WIth CIPC I could go into the settings and turn off the Optimize for Bandwidth check box and the call would negotiate G.711.  With Jabber I can't find anything that would tell my Jabber client to stay on G.711 and I can only imagine this is a codec missmatch as the following are true.
    1. CIPC and Jabber share the same line
    2. VPN established and CIPC optimised for low bandwidth un-checked
    3. Over the same VPN the CIPC phone can leave a voicemail
    4. Over the same VPN the Jabber client gets fast busy once forwarded to voicemail
    5. Voicemail environment is Exchange-UM over SIP trunk
    6. SIP trunk is assigned a Device Pool, that is assigned to a region that all other regions communicate G.711 to
    7. On CIPC if optimised for low bandwidth is checked I get the exact same issue as I get with the Jabber client (fast busy when forwarded to voicemail)
Would anyone know what I can do in CUCM 9 to fix this issue, as said no issue when all devices are on premise.  Wondering if there is a service parameter or a way to change the codec selection so the Jabber client attempts to always negotiate G.711.  The correct answer would be to get some PVDM DSP resources and kick up a transcoder in my resource group, and that may be what I talk them into doing if I have no other options.

We have been getting the exact same thing for almost a year now... since switching to FiOS Digital Voice in May of last year!  Every time I call in to report it they 'escalate' the issue but it never gets resolved.  The problem seems to be in the initial connection.  Most of the time it works fine but, several times a month, after I call to get messages and it starts to play the new message it goes dead and I get the busy signal.  I get the same message when I call back:  “I’m sorry – that account is in use at this time.  Please try again later!”  I have even called in with my cell phone and get the same message!  I HAVE EVEN used the Internet to see if I could get my messages and, when I hit Play, I get a pop-up saying: “Your Voice Mail box is currently in being accessed; please try again later.  If the problem continues, please contact our Customer Support Center at 1-888-553-1555. We apologize for any inconvenience.”  This is obviously a software bug that Verizon has no clue on how to troubleshoot OR fix!!!  I wonder how many people have the problem and just don’t bother reporting it because of the hassle?  When it first started happening they destroyed my entire mailbox and I had to re-enter the complete mailbox setup again – 3 times!!!  NEVER let them talk you into that!!!  It’s their problem and they need to fix it!!!!!!!  I wish I could go back to the ‘normal’ voicemail we originally had… they want hundred$ to switch back because I’d be breaking my #$@%^&* contract!  Good luck if you have Verizon………

  • Jabber for iPhone & iPad too long to connect to "Phone Services"

    Hello,
Has anybody ever experienced delay issues with Jabber for iPhone and/or iPad to connect to "Phone Services"?
In my case, the service does connect but it can take about 1 minute. Some times it can be faster but some others it can take a while to make the service available.
    Regards,

You've hit the nail on the head with your last sentence, though to me a month (and then another) to wait for a new line is nothing - I am on my fifth order with BT. They lost the first three, then tried charging me an arm and a leg in excess charges for the fourth. I am trying again, this time with a total package to see if they are a bit more useful when they actually know I'm not going to switch to another provider - fingers crossed.
If they do come back with massive excess charges again though this time I've done my homework. I now know the measurements between my property and the pole as well as the BT price list they use to calculate the charges. I've also worked out a cheaper route than the one they were suggesting - Ofcom say they should offer the cheapest route and the opportunity for the customer to do some of their own work but with me they didn't do either. They also didn't consider that we don't have reliable mobile signal here. They also didn't provide me with any details of how they'd come to that figure and just demanded it. I've had lots of advice from DEFRA, the Department for Business, Innopvation and Skills, Ofcom and ex-Openreach planners and should be able to get a line under the USO. I have a horrible feeling that I've done all this homework now though and they'll just come out and do it without demanding the excess, but if they do I am at least ready this time.

  • Connecting an iPhone/iPad to RV220W's VPN

    Hi
I am looking to purchase the RV220W router. I am interested to know if I can use the iPhone/iPad to create a VPN connection to this router.
I have seen a lot of conflicting information about this so I am looking for a confirmation .
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hello,
Just to people with the same challange:
I can confirm that it´s possible to connect with iOS (iPhone 4S iOS Version 6.0.1) to RV220W (Firmware 1.0.4.17)
    Steps on RV220W:
         1) Enable Remote Mangement (Administration-->Remotemanagement-->Remotemanagment enable
         2) Activate PPTP Server on RV220W (VPN-->IPSec-->VPN Users)
         3) Create User for PPTP Access (VPN-->IPSec-->VPN Users) Protocoll: "PPTP"
    Steps on iPhone
         1) Create new VPN Connection (Setting-->General-->VPN--> Add VPN Configuration
         2) Choose "PPTP"
              as "tekliu" above mentioned:
              RSA SecureID:OFF
              Encryption Level: AUTO
              Send All Traffic: ON
              Proxy: OFF

  • IPhone with VPN

Is there a way to set the mail app on the iphone to automatically use the VPN connection without having to manually turn on VPN everytime you need to check the mail?

Check with your school networking folks.
It's quite possible to substantially lock down a network at the firewall and at the switches used in larger networks, and to monitor what's not locked down for purposes of security, accountability and compliance.   (VPNs can be a means for circumventing established security, so it wouldn't surprise me to see those ports blocked from primary schools, and from various other security-conscious organizations.)
It's also possible that there's a misconfiguration within the network, and that's blocking access.  Multiple layers of NAT can play havoc with various VPN connections, for instance.  (IP networks can be large and complex, and errors happen.)
Ask.  That approach will also reduce the changes of getting in trouble with the school if the blocks are intentional, and can potentially also help the school networking folks sort out any unintentional network misconfigurations.  Why?  In general, intentionally circumventing network blocks can be viewed... dimly... by various organizations.  Sometimes just dimly, sometimes with administrative consequences, and sometimes with legal consequences.
But since you have LTE mode, you can use that, and avoid the school network entirely.
As for your question, the iOS clients provide L2TP, PPTP and Cisco support, and those protocols have fixed port assignments.  You'd likely need both a different client and a different VPN server, or command-line or port-forwarding connections with ssh on if-it-is-open TCP port 22 and related, but — if the port blocks are intentonal — that's just asking for administrative problems if (when?) the traffic gets noticed.
Ask.  If you ask nicely and if the blocks are intentional, they might even open a route for you.  If the blocks are not intentional, you can help test the configuration corrections.

  • Time Capsule firmware upgrade interfering with VPN connection?

I regularly connect to our corporate VPN with my (corporate, non-Apple) laptop through wi-fi through our Time Capsule.  I think that the recent firmware upgrade to the Time Capsule has made it impossible for me to connect to the VPN.  My IT department suggests that the upgrade may have tightened a security setting that is preventing the VPN connection.  Is this something others have experienced?  Is there anything to do about it?  (At the moment, I am connecting to the VPN through my iPhone as a hotspot, but I'll use up my data allowance if I keep doing that.)

Yes, it is common.. Apple only bother to check their software requirements.. not everybody elses.
VPN in particular seems to suffer from being killed off on about every second firmware revision. Woopss forget about that..
Is there anything to do about it?
Absolutely.. take your TC back to the last firmware that worked.. a Gen1 I would strongly recommend 7.5.2 but 7.6.1 is not bad.. avoid the rest.
Downgrade firmware is easy in v6 utiity.
Click on the version number with the option key held down.. lo and behold.. all the old versions will appear .. pick a goodun and it will proceed to downgrade that is an upgrade in functionality.. at least as far as your VPN is concerned.. very little else is going to be affected.
V6 utility does allow you to turn off checking for updates .. I just found it.
On the top menu area open preferences for airport utility..
Uncheck the first two items.. check for updates and check for updates weekly.
Do not even dream that this will stop it complaining about updates.. because it will still manage to complain.. but less often.. and you MUST ignore it.. for your own good.
Are you sure your port forwarding is still functional and is the laptop or whatever you are using getting the right IP. If IP changes the VPN will no longer work.. but I think port forwarding has become more problematic as v6 utility has made it harder.
Sometimes as part of this process you should also factory reset.. old firmware or new firmware and redo the port forwards again.
It is also much easier to simply use a router that understands vpn.
