"Java and BAPI Technology for SAP" by by Ken Kroes - Is this book useful?

Howdy partners,
I've got a 'book' called "Java and BAPI Technology for SAP" by by Ken Kroes, Anil Thakur, Gareth M. deBruyn, Robert Lyfareff.
Now, does anyone know if the info in this book is still relevant to the modern SAP world? I mean its still talking about ITS and stuff like that?
Any input will be appreciated.

With the blue cover? I have one with the something similar title, but it's quite out of date. There was lot of improvement on the Java side.
So I would prefer something newer from SAP-PRESS. Check the SAP-PRESS site.
BTW I don't consider ITS as an old technology...it was just integrated recently into WAS 640 to make it more powerful. This is the only available technology, which converts classic Dynpro to Webpage dynamically.

    Hi All,
    I need the following information:
    1.       What is the Java Runtime version required for SAP GUI version 6.2 for Windows (Platform Windows XP)?
    2.       And is there any problem if we use Java runtime version 1.6 on PC?
It would be great if anybody can provide the information on the above.

To run SAP GUI for WIndows -- Java isnt a pre-requisite nor is there any dependency for the same.

  • Gathering Technical and Business Requirements for SAP PI

I need to some documents and tools, or interview guide & questionnaire to gather the stakeholders' technical and business requirements for SAP PI

    Thanks for the links,
I am quite new at SAP and currently trying to elaborate should i use SAP PI or not based on my project stakeholder's requirements.
And my biggest problem right now is how to capture technology and business requirements and match them with SAP PI
I plan to use this format while requirements gathering about integration platform:
    1- Draft Requirements
Q- What is the names and status of sending and receiving application and how they will be used
    2- Detailed Requirements
Q- Connectivity, Administrative and Business related questins
3- Administrative and project management information
Q- Which applications are involved, who is the original supplier? Who is technical contact at the supplier
    4- Business requirements
Q- Questions about the information flow which will support some business processes
    5- Connectivity to applications
Q- Questions about connectivity mechanism, file formats (flat file or XML or something else), data access methods and so on
What do you think about the general concept?

  • Issue in Application Module and Enterprise Integration for SAP applications

    Hi,
When I enabled the Application Module and Enterprise Integration for SAP applications Version 2.60 Patch 2 I am getting error in defect entity and Application Module. Does any one face this issue? Please let me know the solution.

I followed the steps given in ALM addin page to install the adapters

    Hi
If you are wanting to know how to configure ESSO to be used to logon to SAP applications then there is a guide in the helpfile of the admin console. Simply do a search for SAP.
In short ESSO-LM comes with a SAP helper object which needs to be selected on install. To enable the ESSO SAP helper to interact with SAP, the SAP server and the SAPGUI client need to be configured. The details for this are in the helpfile. If you have multiple SAP systems launched from the SAPGUI then this is the best method because it means ESSO can distinguish between the different SAP systems through matching screens
If you have only one SAP system and you do not want to configure the SAP server then you could use send keys and not use the SAP helper object at all.
    Hope this helps

If you're really using iTunes 7.0 you are very far behind the current version - maybe it is trying to connect to a decomissioned server.  In fact I am kind of surprised it will run on a Macbook Air.  Are you sure you are running iTunes 7?

My ipad's screen is black. When it  take charge, I can hear sound but still black. I press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds but this doesn't work. Screen still black! PLS HELP ME!

How long did you let it charge? It may take 30 minutes before the iPad responds when the battery is completely drained. Let it charge for at least 30 minute using the wall charger. Then rest the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is 100%.
If the iPad still does not start make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • BUFFER_REFRESH when using "BAPI technology" in SAP event exits

We wrote some custom function modules which are similar to the BAPI technology to maintain custom data tables.
    Let's say we have
    a function Z_DATA_CREATE,
    a function Z_DATA_CHANGE and
    a function Z_DATA_READ.
These function modules are RFC functions which can be called from outside SAP and have to reflect the transactional mechanism. That means that the caller can call any of these functions in an arbitrary sequence and has to control the commit or rollback.
    E.g.
    Step 1 : call function Z_DATA_CREATE
Step 2 : some external logic
    Step 3 : call function Z_DATA_CHANGE
    Step 4 : call function Z_DATA_CREATE
    Step 5 : ...
    Step 6 : call function Z_DATA_READ
    Step X : call function BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT
The data will not be written to the database until the COMMIT statement is called. Therefore all manipulated data are stored in the global memory of the function module in the meanwhile. The functions first check if there is data in the memory (prepared for SAVING) before they check the database tables. Essential for the data integrity in this model is that the memory is being refreshed when the COMMIT or ROLLBACK is fired. With BAPIs this is done by subscribing the delete functions which are called by the BUFFER_REFRESH_ALL function. BUFFER_REFRESH_ALL is called in the BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT or rather BAPI_TRANSACTION_ROLLBACK function. So this works fine.
Now we want to use our function modules (Z_DATA_* ) in user exits of SAP standard processes. For example in event exits (transaction FQEVENTS ). I assume that these SAP programs only fire a COMMIT without calling the BUFFER_REFRESH_ALL .
But we have to ensure that the memory (the global data of the function modules) is being refreshed after a commit.
Do you have any idea how I could do this???
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks Sharad,
your ideas helped me to find a possible solution (at least for the case that  I don't use SET UPDATE TASK LOCAL).
I do the buffer refresh in a form which I call on commit (dialog process). As the update task works in a separate context and doe not access the dialog buffer anymore, it doesn't matter when the refresh is called after the COMMIT has been fired.
I'm not sure if your second suggestion would work as you don't have access to the same context data in the update task. Typically the buffer data are in the dialog context which is separated from the data in update task. So the REFRESH must take place during the dialog process.
Thanks a lot for your contribution!

  • !!!URGENT - Java and BAPI

    Hello,
That's my first post on this forum.
I am good in Java, but completely new with SAP.
I use JCO and BAPI to handle with SAP.
My task is to implement a method responsible for creating a finished product and all necessary semi-finished products which are connected with ready prod and save them in SAP. Furthermore I've got to create a bill of materials.
Let me show you the idea by using the example of car (finished product):
Car is built from a lot of components, for instance:
        - 1 engine
        - 4 tires
        - 2 front lights
    etc.
Since I'm new in SAP, I don't know which business objects from BAPI I'm supposed to use to be able to perform my task.
I'll be very grateful if you suggest me sth (even post some links).
    Looking forward your answers.
    BR,
    Rafal

    Hi,
    Thanks for answer.
I've read a little bit more about my issue.
According to my best knowledge there is no BAPI to create BOM...i tried to find without any result. So the problem is still not solved.
I found out that I have to create material master record for trading goods(type: HAWA in Headdata) and create Semifinished products (type: HALB) by using BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA (hopefully I'm right, otherwise pls correct me), but I still don't know how to connect them with each other and then use to create BOM.
Every help will be warmly appreciated.
If somebody may provide me an example it will be wonderful.
    Looking forward an answer.

    Rafal

  • The Best Java Web Services Technology for Developing Web Services

    Hi,
I am new to Web services world.
I read the java web services page . there are more than 6 technologies.
    JAX-WS,
    JAX-RPC,
    JAXB,
    SAAJ,
    JAXP,
    WSIT,
    XWS-Security
I went through several documents on web services.
I could not get a clear idea of which technolgy to use.
Which Java web service technology will be the best to develop web services independant of language, platform.
or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ? for rapid development of web services.
    Could anyone help me !.
    Thanks in advance.

Which Java web service technology will be the best
to develop web services independant of language,
    platform.
Java by nature is a cross-platform language, so if your focus is on the need for portability, the choisce of WS should not be a problem. However, each WS is best suited for paricular uses.
SAAJ, a low-level level API, offers much simplicity, but is not the first choice for programmers, as SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol)messages need to be constructed piece by piece, making it a quite arduous code to program.
If you are not familiar with XML, your best bet would be to use JAX-RPC (Java API for XML-Remote Procedure Calls), as it hides the underlying detail from the programmer, in terms of SOAP and XML. The shortcoming with RPC-based WS is that it is "restricted to the local programming experience". Another failing is that assumes there is a network path- a reliability concern.
If your program will be contacting other services during downtimes, unlike JAX-RPC, JAXM is quite useful. However, your listing did not mention it, so I wont cover it.
JAXR is a client-side only API that acts as an interface between registries (not referring to JAXP)
I am not famiiar with JAXB, JAXP, WSIT or XWS-Security..
or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ?It depends on what platform you are used to. Assuming you are familiarized with the J2EE platform (now changed to Java EE SDK), the NetBeans IDE (either 5.5, 5.5.1 or the latest editiion) is quite useful. I am using 5.5.1, but have found that it is quite buggy, especially when adding WS operations, a core requirement of a WS. if you will be using to devlop a service for an immediate need, you may find the learning curve to be a bit high, in terms of getting to grips with how to use it. (Download link:
    http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/index.php)
The IBM Autonomic IDE (or AIDE), based on the WSDM standard, includes 3 sub-tools, icluding the IBM Manageability Endpoint Builder which, according to their website, allows individuals to build endpoints to allow manageability interface exposure; Manageable Resource Browser and the IBM Manageability Endpoint Simulator. However, I'm not familiar with this IDE. (Download link: http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/aide/download)
The .NET Framework uses the Visual Studio IDE. For an unbiased comparison of J2EE and the .NET Framework in terms of WS, see http://www.webservicesarchitect.com/content/articles/hanson01.asp.
Apache Axis2, Geronimo and JiBX allows fast development of WS, or so the creators profess.
The PHP environment- you could try NuSPHERE PHPed. According to one website, with it you can develop a web service in under an hour.
I hope this was useful to you.

First i'm download and install J2SE per note Note 941595 - Download J2SE 1.4.2 for the x64 platform
Java SE Development Kit 1.4.2_18 x64 SAP .
On installation stage "Install software units" 32 of 43 -->
    installation hangs with message :
"Begin of SAP J2EE Engine Deployment (J2EE Application)"
no errors no other logs , and in sapinst_instdir no files are changed on 3-4 hours ......
I have formatted system, and try NEW installation, install same version of J2SE -->
on this time , installation stops on stage "start java application" , but jcontrol.exe are shutdown after start, from log i'm find the error comes from J2SE, uninstall 1.4.2_18 and install 1.4.2_13 -->
after this installation has proceeded and has ended without errors.
    Somebody observed same?
    Regards.

    Dear
    Yes
You can find the information in SAP note 716604
Note 716604 - Access to Sun J2SE and recommended J2SE options
    "part of the note:"
    Important note:
With 1.4.2_18 we are currently having massive stack overflow problems on Windows x86 (64bit) with our default parameter set. The issue is still under investigation. Additionally we have a performance regression with Java Systemcopy on 1.4.2_18.
Until further notice please don't use 1.4.2_18.
In the meantime SUN has made available 1.4.2_17 for Windows x86 (64bit) and Solaris x86 (64Bit) for download. Please see note 941595.
    Kind regards
