"java -version" fails in Solaris 5.9 with relocation error

Hi all,
Appologies for the Java 'newbie-ness' of this query from the outset... But here goes. My current configuration is ...
SunOS 5.9 Generic_112233-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-i2
and I'm trying to run with Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition Version 1.4.1
As far as I know, local support has fed me with the required patches to get me up and running so as I can use 'jar' to upgrade a jarfile. But if I try to do this (or even just try "java -version"), I just get...
Error: failed /usr/j2se/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so, because ld.so.1: java: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/j2se/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so: symbol __1cG__CrunSregister_exit_code6FpG_v_v_: referenced symbol not found
I can only find this bug (?) referencing Solaris 5.7 at most recent. Am I missing something obvious?
I've got...
setenv JAVA_HOME /usr/j2se
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/sparc/server:$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/sparc
Are the solaris 7 patches not necessarilly in the patch bundle I've had stuffed on here...?

It looks like that the likely cause of this error is some failed library dependancy. You can manually check if all libraries libjvm.so depends on are actually present on the system by running the following commands:
$ cd /usr/j2se/jre/lib/sparc/client/
$ ldd libjvm.so
The output of the ldd command should look something like the following with possible slight deviations:
libCrun.so.1 => /usr/lib/libCrun.so.1
libdl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libdl.so.1
libthread.so.1 => /usr/lib/libthread.so.1
libsocket.so.1 => /usr/lib/libsocket.so.1
libnsl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libnsl.so.1
libm.so.1 => /usr/lib/libm.so.1
libw.so.1 => /usr/lib/libw.so.1
libc.so.1 => /usr/lib/libc.so.1
librt.so.1 => /usr/lib/librt.so.1
libmp.so.2 => /usr/lib/libmp.so.2
libaio.so.1 => /usr/lib/libaio.so.1
libmd5.so.1 => /usr/lib/libmd5.so.1
/usr/platform/SUNW,Ultra-60/lib/libc_psr.so.1
/usr/platform/SUNW,Ultra-60/lib/libmd5_psr.so.1
Check if all library path's are actually present on the system, otherwise you will need to satisfy the missing dependencies.

  • Java -version fails in 1.5.0_02

    Hi,
    I installed the 64 bit java self extracting binary on Solaris 5.8 Generic_117350-11. After setting my path to the new java directory (and bin), I do a
    java -version (after verifying which java) at the shell prompt and I get back
    java -versionError occurred during initialization of VM
    java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
    It seems to be looking for some classpath in 1.5 that wasn't quite needed in 1.4. Any ideas?
    Also, I don't see a javaw anymore in the bin directory. Is this correct?
    Thanks
    rgs_1

    Color me embarrassed. I did install the 32 bit and then the 64 and all is well with the world again.
    The install guide doesn't quite talk about this but I am guessing that we set the path to the $JAVA_HOME/bin/sparcv9/java to use the 64bit? (as opposed to $JAVA_HOME/bin/java which still looks like the 32 bit variant). Any thoughts? Thanks again.

  • Instant client 10.2.0.2 - Solaris 32 bit - sqlplus relocation error

    Did anyone use the sqlplus that comes with Instant Client 10.2.0.2 - Solaris 32 bit to connect to a remote Oracle database?
    I am unable to get it working.
    More info below:
    I unpacked these two packages onto my Solaris 9 box into a directory called /space/OracleClient10g/instantclient_10_2
    a) instantclient-basic-solaris32-10.2.0.2-20060303.zip
    b) instantclient-sqlplus-solaris32-10.2.0.2-20060303.zip
    I have set the following environment variables (csh):
    setenv ORACLIENT /space/OracleClient10g/instantclient_10_2
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH "$ORACLIENT":"$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"
    set path = ($ORACLIENT $path)
    setenv SQLPATH $ORACLIENT
    setenv TNS_ADMIN $ORACLIENT
    setenv NLS_LANG AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8
    The tnsnames.ora file is in the $TNS_ADMIN directory and it has the tns entry that I need.
    When I run sqlplus using the tnsentry, I get a "relocation error" as below:
    $ sqlplus user1/pwd1@tnsentry
    ld.so.1: sqlplus: fatal: relocation error:
    file /space/OracleClient10g/instantclient_10_2/libsqlplus.so: symbol
    lnxqebc_chars: referenced symbol not found
    (The same tns entry is used from a different Solaris 9 machine where I have a full Oracle 9i client installed and sqlplus connects fine using this tns entry - so I do not think there is anything wrong with this tns entry. Besides, the error message that I am getting when I run sqlplus can be reproduced even by simply running 'sqlplus' without any arguments. )
    When I do an 'ldd' on sqlplus, every library needed by sqlplus is loaded correctly.
    $ ldd /space/OracleClient10g/instantclient_10_2/sqlplus
    libsqlplus.so => /space/OracleClient10g/instantclient_10_2/libsqlplus.so
    libclntsh.so.10.1 => /space/OracleClient10g/instantclient_10_2/libclntsh.so.10.1
    libnnz10.so => /space/OracleClient10g/instantclient_10_2/libnnz10.so
    libkstat.so.1 => /usr/lib/libkstat.so.1
    libnsl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libnsl.so.1

    libsched.so.1 => /usr/lib/libsched.so.1
    libc.so.1 => /usr/lib/libc.so.1
    libaio.so.1 => /usr/lib/libaio.so.1
    libm.so.1 => /usr/lib/libm.so.1
    libthread.so.1 => /usr/lib/libthread.so.1
    libmp.so.2 => /usr/lib/libmp.so.2
    librt.so.1 => /usr/lib/librt.so.1
    libmd5.so.1 => /usr/lib/libmd5.so.1
    /usr/platform/SUNW,Ultra-Enterprise/lib/libc_psr.so.1
    /usr/platform/SUNW,Ultra-Enterprise/lib/libmd5_psr.so.1
    Any ideas on the cause of this error?

    I'd say that there is a problem loading the shared library libsqlplus.so.
    Try 'ldd /space/OracleClient10g/instantclient_10_2/libsqlplus.so' and see which libraries are referenced.
    It seems like they are all found, but at least one of them is missing an entry that should be there.
    - Trace sqlplus with 'strace' or 'truss' (I don't know which of the two exists on Solaris) to
    find out which library has the problem.
    - Check the versions and compare them with the versions required by the installation guide for the Oracle client.
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe

    Hi there
    Not sure which jdk you are using but I am guessing you are using native code?
    libkernel32.so
    See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/vm/signal-chaining.html
    Start your application this way, this should solve your problem.
    export LD_PRELOAD=<libjvm.so dir>/libjsig.so; java_application (ksh)
    setenv LD_PRELOAD <libjvm.so dir>/libjsig.so; java_application (csh)
    Also, even if u are using 1.3.1, u can get the libjsig.so from 1.4.2 and do the same.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro fails to receive WSUS patches with 8024500C error

    Hi
    I have just added my first Windows 8.1 Pro to the domain. The WSUS server is running SP2 and has the KB2720211 and kb2734608 patches installed. The WSUS server has sync'ed with microsoft.com several times, SQLCMD has been run and the cleanup wizrd run.
    I have also run the automatic WSUS "fix me" 971058 on the workstation.
    The workstations windowsupdate log is:

  • How can I get iPhoto to work with Lion? It comes up with an error about not working with this version of MAC os.omes up with an error

    Iphoto was working fine until I downloaded and installed LION. Now I get  a problem message to check that iphoto is compatible with this version of MAC OS X.
    I always download software updates.

    Have put iphoto into trash and tried to re-install it from cd, but although it is there on the list when I try to install, it is not in bold and does not permit me to tick it.
    I have been to the app store and it tells me that iphoto is on my computer.

  • ServerStats failing on perfmon monitor discovery with authentication error

    Hello,
    I am having a problem with OLT serverstats. When running Perfmon monitor discovery there is an error message that says:
    "Error while calling discovery. The data collector was unable to establish a conenction to ... due to an authentication failure. Please check your Username and Password."
    I am using admin login credentials for the windows server and I have no problems logging in outside OLT.
    Any ideas on what authentication settings that have to be done?
    It's a virtual windows 2003 server running on vmware, is that a problem?
    (I am using version 9.10 of OATS.)

    Hi
    Are you login to a domain?
    is so you will need to add the domain in front of the username e.g:
    myDomain\myUsername
    ....mmm not sure now if its a forward or back slash, please try both:
    myDomain/myUsername
    Regards

  • Version 9 on PC.  Share with Flickr - error message - "being worked on"

    .  It worked previously for several years. For the last 2 months, I get an error message, that it is unavailable and being worked on.

    Hi,
    If you are still having this problem, I'm afraid that it looks as though not much is happening to fix it. I  raised a bug report on the feedback site only recently. Feel free to log in there and add your name to the count.
    Elements share to Flickr not working
    f you add to that thread, can you make sure you increment the count at the top please. At the top, just at the end of my first entry, there is a count saying "n People have this question" and there is a +1 button next to it - click on that button. The count should then increment and the message should change to "you have this question".
    I think that the more people that add to the count, the better chance of a fix.
    For what its worth, I can share to Flickr using Lightroom so they must know how to do it.

  • Once repository downloaded, and then I deleted .repo folder. Again trying for building the source. Then it is failing to Build the source with .repo error.

    Hi,
    I have downloaded the repository source (1.4) for nexus-4. Trying to build the source after deleting .repo folder.
    If I delete that folder it is not building at all.
    please suggest me to handle this scenario. due to space issue I have removed the .repo folder.
    Thanks in advance.

    Homebrew helps as well : [http://wilsonpage.co.uk/installing-firefoxos-nexus4/]
    Current instructions for nexus 4 [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513228]
    I am not entirely sure, however there is instructions for the nexua7 [https://wiki.mozilla.org/B2G/Nexus7]
    Added later: [http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/december-29-firefoxos-nexus-4-1-1-1-4-t2388237] though as a fair warning, this is a very buggy build and I would not want you to brick your phone as it is an expensive phone.

  • How can you upgrade the Oracle's db java version?

    Hi - Is there away to upgrade the database's java version? We are on UNIX with Oracle 8.1.6. I would like to upgrade it to Java 1.4, if possible. As far as I know, we do not currently use java for anything. We like to use java stored procedures.
    Thanks

    Is it possible (and if so, how) to determine the version of Java used to compile a class file?
    I've recently had to install both JDK 1.5 and JDK 1.4 on my system, and although I've got my paths set, etc.
    I'd like to check my class files after compiling so I can rest assured that they were compiled with the appropriate version.
    Can this be done? How?
    Thanks.The answer is yes and no. You can check the VM compability/compliance version of the compiled class. But e.g a JDK 1.5 compiler can compile classes that are compatible with a 1.4 VM (but that doesn't mean that it is guaranteed to execute on that VM without any errors)
