Java version for class file

i have some class files, and i need to know what Java compiler used to compiled that class file (only care for the version number...like 1.4.2, 1.5.0, 1.1.0, etc)
any one know how i can get this info? or any good google keywords?

thanx, since now i know how the class file bytes are set up..i guess i can get the version number by looking at the hex.
tedious (but not that tedious)...thought there be a simplier way...oh well..
thanx again

  • Identify Java version from CLASS file

    Hi,
    I have a .class file. I would like to identify the Java version from that.
    Is there a way to find out?
    Also, is there a way to find out the Java version from JAR file?
    Thanks.

    Is there a way to find out?Sure, there's the major version number (48, 49, 50) included in the class files. Look for the class file specification, shouldn't be too hard to find.

  • Java version from class file

    How to decide from class file that which java version (1.3, 1.4 etc) was used to compile it?

    Sorry I made a mistake,
    its minor, major
    Dont we have some utility given by Sun for this?
    javap -verbose <classname>will print out versions plus more...
    Do I need to use InputStream for reading class file then see the version?
    DataInputStream din = new DataInputStream(new FileInputStream(classFile));
    din.readInt();
    short minor = din.readShort();
    short major = din.readShort();Why do you need to do this?

    Can anyonetell me what I need to do to improve the performance of my plugin in this case. Is a parameter not set?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    If you are using the JDK 1.6 plugin, then you can set the "codebase_lookup" property to false to avoid these calls. Documented in
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/plugin/developer_guide/special_attributes.html#specialattributes
    If you're using JDK 1.5 or below, well, tough luck.

  • WebLogic looking for class file using the wrong case

    During my ant build, I precompile my JSPs using weblogic.jspc. All of the jars and wars are packaged into an ear and deployed to WebLogic 8.1 on Linux. When I access one of our normal screens, everything is good. Things go wrong when I try to access one of our help screens. We have a base help file that includes another file based on the screen code passed to it. The screen code is used in combination with a HashMap to look up the correct JSP to include. This part goes fine. But when the JSP is included, I get the following error. The best I can figure is that the class file is in mixed case (i.e., SampleHelp00.jsp and SampleHelp00.class), but Weblogic is looking for samplehelp00.class.
    I'm not even where I should begin looking to solve this. Anyone have any ideas?

    Ignore the part about precompiled JSPs being ignored on my development server. Turns out I had a stale cache. I cleared that out and now it recognizes the files.
    The problem with that, is now I'm getting an Error 500 when I try to access the page.

    I passed the -keepGenerated flag to the precompile task in my Ant build so I could look at the line it's choking on, but it's not very helpful. I'm stuck. I can set up the build so it doesn't precompile the JSPs, but then the QA team wouldn't like me very much.

  • Can i generate java API from class files

    I have only class files. Is it possible to generate the java API using the javadoc.If yes, pls tell me how can i do??

    Also, Javadoc 1.4.2 will contain an unsupported option -Xclasses
    that should allow you to do this. You must pass in class names
    and use -classpath to find them. For com.package.MyClass
    at /home/classes/com/package/MyClass.class,
    you would run:
    javadoc -Xclasses -classpath /home/classes com.package.MyClass

  • Java versions for OIM install

    Hi,
    Last time when I installed OIM, everything worked fine, but I was unable to open the workflow manager applet. I think maybe I used the wrong JRE/JDK. Please read below the environment I am using and suggest which Jave version should be used.
    OS: Windows 2003 Server
    Browser: IE
    OIM: 9.1
    Application Server: Weblogic (latest version)
    1. Installing Oracle Weblogic, which JRE to use?
    a> 1.6 Sun Java already shipped with Weblogic
    b> 1.6 Oracle JRockit shipped with Weblogic
    c> any other Java version
    2. Installing OIM Server, in the screen where it asks for Application server information, in the field where it asks the JDK used for application server install, which one to use?
    a> The one I choose above in 1
    b> any other Java version (1.4.2_12 or _15 or something else)
    3. Installing OIM client, when it asks for JRE to use with design console, which Java to use?
    a> Install JRE bundled with OIM
    b> JDK 1.4.2_12 or _15 or any other Java version
    4. Now, when I use the OIM, what should be the Java version that my browser should be configured to launch the Workflow Manager applet?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Harmeet

    The release notes for your oim version contains information about what JRE versions are supported.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/idm_certification_101401.html#BABGBGHI
    Sun JDK 1.6.0_10 or higher JRockit 1.6.0_05 or higher seems to be what you are looking for.
    Best regards

  • Java not running .class files

    I rebooted my computer, and now whenever I type
    java <filename> it responds with:
    C:\Development\Java\Projects\Scratch>java T1
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: T1
    However, it compiles fine:
    class foo {
    class T1 {
        public static void main (String [] args) {
            foo [] fooArray = new foo[5];
            if (fooArray[1] instanceof Object)
              System.out.println("fooArray[1] is an object");
            if (fooArray[1] instanceof foo)
              System.out.println("fooArray[1] is a foo");
    }What am I missing to get it to run with java T1?
    (every other class file that used to work behaves the same way)

    Yes, it is the classpath. Strangely . is in my classpath in the environment settings in the control panel. I guess I can survive adding -cp . but it is kind of a pain in the a__ for no reason I can discern

  • JAVA version for NWDS

    Hi ,
      I am planning to install NWDS (2004s) on my local machine , I want to know the JAVA version that i can use , Will the NWDS work with JAVA 1.5 ??
    Regards,
    Tarun.

    Hi Tarun,
    sure, a JDK 5 compiler defaults to source and target level 1.5 and will thus produce classes that are not compatible with a 1.4 runtime ("Unsupported major minor version 49.0"). What's your motivation for wanting JDK1.5? I'd rather go the other way and use a CE IDE for 04s and then use the lower JDK version for the DC build, at least for the Java compiler.
    Regards,
    Marc
