JDBC Driver 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.3 Upgrade Exception: Socket is not connected

Environment -
Oracle TopLink 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.3.0) (Build 070620)
Oracle 10g Release 3 (10.1.3) Application Server
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
JDBC Driver: 10.2.0.3
Problem -
I am trying a simple upgrade of my JDBC driver from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.3. I have tried via creation of a shared library according to the OC4J Configuration and Administration Gude, and I even tried a direct replacement of jar files located under <OC4J_HOME>/jdbc/lib. After many deploy/undeploys and server restarts I continually receive the same error when TopLink attemps a datasource login:
oracle.toplink.exceptions.DatabaseException

Has anyone seen or experienced this before? Thanks!

I guess the point is, should I use IMPDP using Network link?
the doc seems to suggest this will work better

    JDBC drivers set NLS parameters based on your locale settings. There are three based parameters: language, territory and character set. Maybe in your case JDBC driver 10.2.0.3.0 sets one of them with value that is not supported in Oracle Database 8.1.7.4. Character set is the first candidate for this. JDBC drivers use only Unicode character sets - there are a few new of them in Oracle Database 10g. 8 and 9 versions of JDBC drivers use UTF8 which is Unicode version 3.0 but in 10g is added Al32UTF8 which is Unicode version 4.0.

    Embedded OC4J startup time: 29125 ms.

    I did what Manu suggested with no success. Alternatively, I registered the driver jar with embedded OC4J preferences > global > libraries. Still does not work. Please, note, that when I run JUnit tests against my BC4J application modules with JDBC URL as connection type, everything works just fine. The problem comes while running the JSF application when the application module is using JDBC DataSource as connection type.

  • Selection of jdbc driver for oracle 8i

    Which jdbc driver should be used for connecting with oracle 8i?

    8i is not supported with the 11g driver. (Node ID:401934.1)
    But not supported does not mean not working .
    Since your database is out of support anyway you may not be looking for a supported solution, right?
    So I'd give the 11g JDBC driver a try...
    Nevertheless you should consider upgrading the database you run.

  • Gor The result set is closed after switch to latest microsoft JDBC driver

    The same code works fine with the previous version of the microsoft JDBC driver, but throws
    com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The result set is closed.
    for the JDBC driver 4.
    Please Help!
    Thanks.

    I found the same exception when dealing with ResultSetMetaData.
    Using the old driver (1.2.2828.100) it was possible to do something like:
    Statement s = con.createStatement();
    ResultSet r = s.executeQuery("select * from <table>");
    ResultSetMetaData m = r.getMetaData();
    r.close();
    s.close();
    int numCols = m.getColumnCount();
    But using the new driver (2.0.1803.100) it complains that the result set is closed.
    The solution was to keep the ResultSet and Statement open until after the ResultSetMetaData is no longer needed. It is somewhat inconvenient because before it was possible to have a utility method that would return a ResultSetMetaData object and not have to worry about keeping the Statement and ResultSet objects around.
    I was hoping for a speed increase for batch inserts by having the latest driver, sadly there is no performance gain.

  • Load the JDBC driver

    hi every one,
    Iam trying to make a connection to Oracle9i using java, i know that first i have to load the JDBC driver and then establish a connection to the database but if faced 2 problems
    1- I don't know the name of the jdbc driver. if any body can show me how can i know it.
    2- when connecting to the database i have to provide the server name and the port number unfortunatly i don't know both.
    so if any one can help to find them.
    Thanks alot

    Iam trying to make a connection to Oracle9i using
    java, i know that first i have to load the JDBC
    driver and then establish a connection to the
    database but if faced 2 problems
    1- I don't know the name of the jdbc driver. if any
    body can show me how can i know it.
    It depends on what driver you are using. Look it up and search the Oracle site. Or look through the gazillion examples in the JDBC forum.
    2- when connecting to the database i have to provide
    the server name and the port number unfortunatly i
    don't know both.
    Talk to your DBA. There is no way we could or should be able to help you on this one.

  • Oralce 10G2 JDBC Driver - Error Loading oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver

    When attemping to use the 10G2 jdbc driver the following NoClassDefFoundError is encountered:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: while resolving class: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    <<No stacktrace available>>
    Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.security.pki.OracleWallet not found in [file:./, file:ojdbc1410g2.jar, file:/usr/share/java/libgcj-3.4.4.jar, file:./, core:/]
    <<No stacktrace available>>
    The error does not occur when reverting back to the 9 jdbc driver. Does anyone know what is causing this behavior?
    Regards,
    Paul

    Paul,
    Actually, class "oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver" extends class "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver".
    So check the JAR files in the list displayed by your error message and see if any of them contain the [missing] class, for example:
    jar tvf ojdbc1410g2.jar oracle/jdbc/driver/OracleDriver.classGood Luck,
    Avi.

    > 1. Where I will find Oracle JDBC driver and how and where will I deploy ?. Pls help
    If am not wrong then you can find it on Oracle DVD's, better to check this..
    Where can i download the util.jar and base.jar File?
    > 2. What I will give in JDBC driver in JDBC Adapter ?
    Just search on SDN for file to JDBC and you will lots of blogs, there you will find all information regaarding  adapter configuration.
    > 3. In Connection  jdbc:oracle:thin:@62.234.221.193:1521:BBB   -- is this corrcet?
    the string "jdbc:oracle:thin:" can vary with oracle version. So this may be correct or may be incorrect.

  • JDBC Driver 9.2.0.1

    Hello,
    iam connecting a Oracle 8.1.7 with the new JDBC Driver 9.2.0.1.
    I do this with the dbcache Implementation.
    In the new JDBC Driver 9.2.. the are methods which allow to set Timeouts
    for the Pooled Connections and the cache.
    But it seems to me that this things didn't work on Ora. 8.1.X Databases.
    Did anyone know more about ? Or can help me ?
    Greetings

    I'll use exactly the same setup for our next application. So,
    if timeouts don't work -> "Houston, we have a problem".
    So, can anyone confirm that connection timeouts do work?
    Cheers,
    HKRedwood Shores:
    " using the 9.2 jdbc driver and OracleConnectionCacheImpl
    class, all the supported timeout properties will work regardless of the
    database server version (8.1.7 and up)"

  • MSSQL JDBC driver missing for installation of NW '04 SR1

    Hi all,
    during the installation of NW '04 SR1/EP6 on a system running MSSQL Server 2000 SP4 SAPinst crashes with the following error:
    ERROR 2007-03-06 22:33:34
    MDB-05800  <html>Cannot find jdbc driver for MS SQL Server</html>
    I searched this forum, the notes and asked Dr. Google but to no avail. Can anybody give me a hint what's the problem, please?
    Best regards,
    Bernd

    Thanks a lot for your help Dan! Your suggestion has shown me the right direction. As I wrote the directory you mentioned was indeed missing. I copied it from another installation and it worked.
    At least it seemed to work, but I've got another problem concerning the database connection during the installation. While performing the step "Load Java Database content" SAPinst crashes again with the following output:
    com.sap.inst.jload.Jload main
    SEVERE: couldn't connect to DB
    com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Could not load class com.ddtek.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver.
    The strange thing is that I found two different SQL driver on the machine with the working installation! One was located in the installation media directory, the files WebAS is working with are obviously another version, because they have significantly different files sizes!
    Does someone have a hint which versions of SQL Server and driver files do work together?

  • OpenSQLException: JDBC driver not supported?

    Hi @ all,
    I need to connect to a DataSource with the WebAS 7 via SQLJ. As I try to connect to it with the SQL Engine set to "Vendor SQL" I get:
    "The given connection "com.sap.engine.services.dbpool.cci.ConnectionHandle" is not an Open SQL connection"
    As I try to get a connection to the dataSource via SQLJ with SQL Engine set to "Open SQL" or "Native SQL", I get the following Exception:
    ResourceException in method ConnectionFactoryImpl.getConnection(): com.sap.engine.services.dbpool.exceptions.BaseResourceException: SQLException thrown by the physical connection: com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: JDBC driver not supported for MS_SQL_SERVER database.
    How can I get the SQLJ- Support?
    Kind regards,
    Uwe

    Hi Uwe, all,
    for using Native SQL/JDBC or Open SQL/JDBC, the database itself and the JDBC driver must be recognized as being in the supported set. The answer to that depends on what you mean in detail by "Web AS 7". Roughly speaking, it should be the JDBC driver released by Microsoft.
    Open SQL/SQLJ is only available with a Open SQL/JDBC data source. Hence, there is no way around using Open SQL/JDBC.
    Now, Open SQL/JDBC and Open SQL/SQLJ both requires tables (and other database objects) to be deployed via the Open SQL for Java Dictionary. Up to and including WebAS Java 7.1, the Open SQL/Dictionary supports deployment to the system database, i.e. the database (and schema) used by the installed server itself.
    Given the above, the JDBC driver for a Open SQL/JDBC data source must already be present, because it must be the driver used by the server itself. When defining data sources, it is referred to as "system driver".
    This leaves us with a Open SQL/JDBC data source to the system schema. You can then also consider to establish a data source alias to the server's system datasource.
    Hope this helps. Best Regards, Dietamr

  • Adding a JDBC driver in Sun Java System Web Server 7

    I'm trying to configure JDBC database connection pooling for a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition though the Sun Java System Web Server 7 administration console. I don't want to use the MSSQL JDBC driver that comes bundled with the SJSWS 7. So I've downloaded the lastest MSSQL JDBC driver from the Microsoft website and put in the "lib" subdirectory of the SJSWS installation directory. So when I go to add a new JDBC resource through the administration console, the newly added MSSQL database driver doesn't appear in the "Driver Vendor" drop-down box.
    How do I add the downloaded JDBC driver to the server so that it appears in the "Driver Vendor" drop-down under "Create JDBC resource".

    Check this documentation from MS on using the JDBC driver with DataSource
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms379052.aspx
    SJS Web Server 7.0 should work with any driver that has support for javax.sql.DataSource. The great majority of drivers do.
    So instead of using the driver name, use the DataSource class name:
    com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDataSource
    The properties to add should be:
    user=username
    password=password
    servername=sql_server_hostname
    portnumber=sql_server_port
    databasename=databasename
    In general, all the setters required to get the datasource configured can be set as properties.

  • Problem with Java 5 and Oracle 10g JDBC driver

    Hi All,
    Currently we upgrade our web application to Java 5 and Oracle 10.2 JDBC driver. And we encountered a bug, when the user entered the information through UI and data didn't store into database (Oracle 9i). The problem is that this bug is not happend so often maybe once a day and this did not happen before we upgraded to Java 5 and Oracle 10.2 JDBC driver. Does anyone encounter the same problem ? Is this Java 5 problem or Oracle JDBC driver problem ?
    Thanks,

    sounds like a database problem...
    Are you using a driver version that's supported for your database engine?
    What else did you change? We once ran into a major bug in our application that had for 5 years been masked by performance problems in our hardware and infrastructure.
    Once those were resolved the bug showed itself and caused tens of thousands of records to be erroneously inserted into our database every day.
    It's certainly NOT a problem with your JVM (if it's a decent one, like the Sun implementation).
    So it's either your database, your driver, your network (dropping packets???), or your application.
    The upgrade may just have exposed something that was already there.
