Jdeveloper tips for the day
Is Oracle starting a new product JBaker? The following shows up as a tip of the day in Jdeveloper

Hi all,
We have an odd happening in one of our video labs here at work. When launching AE CS3 (ver 8 i believe?) the tip of the day window pops up after the program launches, but it's blank. This happens on all but one of the machines in the lab. Nothing had been installed lately - and oddly was working up until late last night. I have been googling - searching this forum and only found one entry that was on the windows side and it was deemed an OS problem - i.e. no help
Some info before I launch into my troubleshooting actions:
all machines are the same
Mac OS 10.6.8 ( we can't upgrade any further as the instructor doesn't wan't to teach the latest version of Final Cut)
MacPro (4.1)
Quad Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz
6 GB ram
OS Drive 500 GB drive
Here's what I've done
Re-installed the App hoping for a quick fix - no go
Unistalled (deleting all prefs) and re-installed - no go
Located an update and installed (8.02) - no go
located user prefs and deleted - no go
I'm at my wit's end and no relief seems to be in sight. I know I can't be the only one that's experiencing this - Basically we can't use the program at all once that blank tip screen pops up - all menus are greyed out and even AE's help is greyed out as well. We're forced to force quit the program to gain access to the machine again.
Help!
Thanks
JoeWell, I work at a university - we don't have the budget to do the upgrade treadmil on all the software we try to support - we've got to work with what we have - I can see that I'm going to get no where with that type of attitude - no wonder why most universities are going to find alternatives to Adobe - just my 2 cents. I asked a question - I didn't need to be berated by a company that we've pumped tens of thousands of dollars over the years just to say well, screw you

Scripting a "Tip of the day" Text Box, Requesting Help!!
Hi there folks,
I need the help of an experienced scripter, I'm in the
process of creating a website and I need help with the Flash SWF
that will be on the Title Page.
When someone arrives on my site I want a small Text Box to show
a "Tip of the Day" or a Random Phrase in the swf on the homepage of
the website.
Unfortunately I can't figure out how to do this and I cannot
find anything to help me in the Flash Support File either. Ideally
I'm looking for someone to post a sample script on this thread so I
can have a look at it and learn from it.
Any Help would be much appreciated!!A quick and dirty way:
- In a new Flash document, make a Dynamic Text box (Text Tool
-> Properties -> Dynamic Text) on your stage
- Name it something you'll remember (example: 'my_text')
- Add the following actionscript (preferably in a new layer):
And that's it. This isn't the prettiest code, and hardly the
best. Your SWF will be slightly bloated because of the use of a
Button Component . Also, putting all your quotes inside the Flash
movie makes it difficult to add new ones (you'll have to recompile
every time you do) and will increase the movie's size. But it's a
start. -
SQL Developer 1.5: Tip of the Day Request
<p>If you have found a hidden gem or have a keystroke or short cut that you use all the time, and you can describe it in a few sentences or small paragraph, let us know and we'll add it into the SQL Developer 1.5 Tip of the Day.
<p>You can send your tips to us in 2 ways: using this thread or by adding it to the Exchange. The useful thing about the Exchange is that you can see and vote on each others tips, but adding to this thread might be easier. (Please don't use this thread for bugs.)
<p>This should be fun and useful too. The developer team can add things that we think you might need to know about, but you can add things you really use.
<p>Thanks!

Hello,
I've been looking for an answer to this for some time, but I
can't find one: Is there some way to have a "Tip of the day"
display in its own window when a CHM (or any HTML) help file is
called?
Thanks,
AndyHi Andy
Often a Tip of the Day is presented using a special help file
that contains only tips. And your developer creates code that
manages it. But there are a few JavaScript solutions out there.
Perhaps check out the links below.

Having a stressful day I was pleased to see the Tip of the Day on Microwave Safety. Duly noted.
Cheers to the Development Team for a sense of humor and management for allowing it to be expressed.

Tip of the Day : Search within the log window
hi
Recently my JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.0.1) showed me a Tip of the Day about "Search within the log window", as shown in tip-of-the-day-search-log-window.png.
It read : "You can search within any of the contents of log windows. Click within the text of the window and click Ctrl+F. A search window appears so that you can enter your search criteria."
The tip also shows an image of a "Messages - Log" panel with a transparent "Search Messages Log" dialog on top.
If I try this on the "Messages - Log" panel, I get the transparent dialog. But if I try this on the "Running: DefaultServer - Log", I don't get the transparent dialog (although search seams to be possible if I just start typing after pressing Ctrl+F).
Not very consistent, or what exactly is the intended behaviour here?
many thanks
Jan Verveckenfyi
This seems to have improved in JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 (see also log-search2-select.png in the context of forum thread "11.1.1.2.0 : log search : no match found").

Removing "Tip of the Day" Pop-up
Any info on how to remove and prevent these annoying pop-ups like "tip of the day?"
Good to know. Thanks Tom...

Hi folks. I have some good news, and some bad news. Bad news: Nothing you do on the Set Top Box will affect the "tip of the day"That's my software that is making that pop up. Good news: It was accidently turned on in a recent release, and we have gonethrough and turned it back off. I know it's anoying, and we are very sorry wemade it. It was designed to help a user for the first time figure out how to use theXR11. It seemed like a good idea then. If you see it again, please post to this thread and I'll make sure we turn it offquickly. Apologies for that, Tom -
I have downloaded several books into ibooks. Started reading one and closed it when I was done reading for the day. Now I want to access other books and when I open ibooks it goes directly to that first book. It does not give me the shelf to choose what book I want to read - goes directly to the first book. What can I do? Help please.
There should be a Library button on the top left. If not ap the middle of the screen to get it to appear.

I want to accumulate rain for the day, month and year; What formula can I use?
I want to accumulate rain for the day, month and year; What formula or expression can I use.
I am using a Rain Wise product that converts pulses to an analog value. The Rain Wise device can be
set to measure up to 1", 5", or 10". I will be setting the unit to 10 inches in increments of 0.01 inches.
What I would like to do is everytime the signal increments I would like to count it as 0.01 then after reaching
a period of time whether it be a day or a month reset back to zero.
Need some advise on this problem.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hello Ryan,
Lookout gets a Modbus over Ethernet signal which originates as a 4-20mA input to a Moxa Ethernet I/O Module (E1240) in the field. In Lookout I created a ModbusEthernet Driver and a tag which scales 0 - 65534 RAW to 0-10 Eng. [0 - 10 is inches of rain] Also, another piece of information is that after the rain gauge maxes out at 10 inches it will zero out and start over.
I though the accumulator was time based and took a sample over a specific time period, for instance, one sample every 30 seconds then accumulate. If this is so then if I have 5 inches of rain and then it stopped raining, then 30 seconds latter it would sample, it would see 5 inches and add that to be 10 inches when actually it had only rained 5 inches.
I really need some help with this process,

I would like to add content that changes on a calendar basis, such as 'thought for the day". It can then display a different text or image on a nominated day. Can this be done? Robert.
OK Thanks Brad.
I could use Tockify of course, but wanted to create the same things on an existing site.
I do not know how to copy the code and get it onto Muse, but that’s OK for now. I will work something else out.

Range Partitioning for the day of the week
I have a logging table which i want to partition into 7 partition, each one for the day of the week, eg MON,TUE, WED. I am aware and I can do a list partition by creating a parition key which stores 'DY' of the week and this means that I need to add another column to the existing table.
I wanted to explore the option of creating a range parition based on the timestamp column that already exists. Can anyone let me know if this option is possible?
Example
create table test_partition
( log_id number,
log_date TIMESTAMP(6),
log_value varchar2(100)
PARTITION BY RANGE (log_date)
PARTITION p1_mon VALUES LESS THAN (), ---- Not sure what can be used here to create this parition.
PARTITION p2_tue VALUES LESS THAN (),
PARTITION p3_wed VALUES LESS THAN (),
PARTITION p4_thu VALUES LESS THAN (),
PARTITION p5_fri VALUES LESS THAN (),
PARTITION p6_sat VALUES LESS THAN (),
PARTITION p7_sun VALUES LESS THAN ()
Any oracle guru with some suggestion for this would be highly appreciated..
Cheers,
VJVJ,
Here is an example of daily partitioning , let me know if this is what you want or you can modify this even to weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly partitions.
CREATE TABLE YY_EVENT
PART_KEY DATE NOT NULL,
SUBPART_VALUE NUMBER NULL,
EVENT_NAME VARCHAR2(30 BYTE) NULL,
EVENT_VALUE NUMBER NULL
TABLESPACE TEST_DATA
PARTITION BY RANGE (PART_KEY)
PARTITION Y_EVENT_20090310 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE(' 2009-03-11 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
LOGGING
NOCOMPRESS
TABLESPACE TEST_DATA,
PARTITION Y_EVENT_20090311 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE(' 2009-03-12 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))

Query to get the details of Blocking and deadlock occurred for the Day
Hi,
I need a query to get the details of blocking and deadlock occurred for the day.You havent specified which version of SQL you are using which makes it difficult to give a solution. Assuming its latest versions , by default SQL Server (in any versions) doesnt track blocking information.
You need to run some kind of queries/traces to capture blocking. The same goes with Deadlocks where majority of the DBA's enable trace flag 1222/1205 when they suspect deadlocks happening.
Check this link -
http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/10644/deadlock-error-isnt-returning-the-deadlock-sql/10646#10646
This link gives code to get historic deadlock information. I havent used it , I just googled to get that.
That being said if you are looking for something to capture for the future check the below links.
Check these links on how to setup extended events to capture deadlock and blocking.

When I change the "split-days" interval time, under Options > Settings, to
15, or every 15 minutes, the week and comparison views don't show the correct
time range for the day.
<P>
For example, if I click View to display the calendar and then click Week to get
a weekly view, the time range displayed is from 6:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. If I click Comparison to get a
comparison view, the time range displayed is from 12 p.m.
to 6:45 p.m.
<P>
In this example, should both of these views show the same time range, from
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.?
No, the two views will not necessarily show the same time range. The time
range for the comparison view will start at the beginning prefs time only
if you have something scheduled (on any day of the week) starting at that
time. For example, on one of the days during your week of comparison, if you
create an event that starts at 9:00 a.m. and then open the comparison view, the
time range displayed will start with 9:00 a.m.
<P>
Additionally, view times will expand past the configured settings if events
span past the time range. That is, if you have an event that spans from
5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the event will be reflected in the view, even though
your time range may be set to go only to 6:00 p.m.Umm yes.
The settings are stored in ''prefs.js'', so you could swap various copies of this file in and out.
However, the system will load ''prefs.js'', then, if present, ''user.js'' , so you can set up just your changes in ''user.js'' .
The sort of line you need to look for is like this:
<code>user_pref("mail.server.server14.check_time", 10);</code>
You'll need to do some research to identify which of your accounts is which.
Search for the account's email address:
<code>user_pref("mail.identity.id10.useremail", "xenos@example.com");</code>
Use the id number to locate the account number:
<code>user_pref("mail.account.account29.identities", "id10");</code>
Use the account number to find the server number:
<code>user_pref("mail.account.account29.server", "server14");</code>
Finally, you can then use the server number find the account's time setting:
<code>user_pref("mail.server.server14.check_time", 10);</code>
This last entry may not exist, if you have never changed the setting from the default 10 minutes.
Do be careful with your typing and copy/pasting; if the file fails the syntax parser it will silently fail.
And make sure Thunderbird is shut down when you do the swap. If it's open, it may overwrite changes, and in any case, it only reads the settings file when it starts up. -
