Jerky bluray picture + no audio

Hi all, I have a hp pv6 laptop 3143sa which has i5 processor and bluray player. I also have a lg 50pcd1(50 inch plasma) tv that is about 5 years old, when I connect my laptop to the tv via hdmi I get no audio, I have gone into sound devices and made sure that hdmi is the default out put but this still does not solve the issue, i then put my laptop into a different tv ( toshiba, that is newer) and i do get audio... could the tv not be compatible because its old? or maybe it has old hdmi 1 and that is causing a problem? or are lg tv's bad for compatability? any suggestions please.
also the other problem is... When I play bluray discs through the laptop to my tv, the picture is really jerky on both the laptop and tv, when i unplug the hdmi cable from the laptop, the film plays perfectly fine on the laptop.... but my friend has the exact same laptop but with amd turion processor (and 2 x 2gig of ram instead of 1 x 4 gig like mine) and his bluray films play perfectly fine on my tv with no jerkiness ( with out sound). to my understanding the i5 is a better processor than the amd turion, and that seems to be the only difference between the two, i have also updated the drivers to the latest version too. Any suggestions as to why my films are not playing right?
I would appreciate any help because this is driving me crazy, spent 2 days trying to solve this issue

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.

You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

If the picture is in iPhoto, then all you need to do is to find the photo in your library from the link on the side bar in the Libraries list. Once you found it, then drag it it to the timeline. Once that is done, look at the side bar again and you should see a tab for music. Find the song and drag it under the picture and it should fill in the amount of time the picture will play for. Take a look at the articles below for those steps with more detail if you need them. Let me know if this works or if you need further assistance.

Timing of pictures and audio

Help me PLEASES! I'm trying to make a slideshow for my friend's wedding. I successfully added pictures and audio. However, I want certain pictures to show during a certain song. How do I make certain pictures go with a certain song without having to mathematically calculate how many pictures should go to each song?

My experience with slideshows and iDVD tells me they play for slightly different durations whilst previewing to when one has actually burnt the disc, so the mathematical solution may be a little frustrating. To compensate for this I sometimes use black slides to space the images and generally end the project with two as I find the audio invariably finishes before the visuals. You may try importing each image as a still into a new iMovie project, thus being able to compose your project in the timeline viewer, showing precisely where each image is in relation to your various audio files, adjusting the duration of each still image manually (or its transition) to fit the audio. Your only limit here of course is you won't have the same transitions as iDVD (I do love droplet) but this may be compensated by the fact you can add the Ken Burns effect. Import this then to iDVD. Audio shifts out of sync. cannot match up picture to audio

i have a video that i downloaded from a stream. however, in fcp 6 the audio is out of sync with the picture. when i reallign the picture to audio, the audio gradually becomes more and more out of sync the further you go down the timeline. ive tried resampling, changing bit rate, and dropping frames. am i doing something wrong? i would appreciate any and all help. Interesting you asked that "side question". Recently, I was ripping CD tracks that I know are 44.1 sample rate and I needed to re-sample them to 48k for the FC project. I knew what the 48k should sound like as it was recorded on the cameras. After I re-sampled the audio, it was still off and I have done this at least 100 times. If I remember correctly, I had to export the audio track, selecting 16 bit, 48k before it matched up. Just changing the sample rate of the audio project did not re-sample correctly even though a dialog box popped up asking to resample to the new rate. I use Cubase for mu audio work so I can't explain the process in STP but I think you get the idea. Yes, the duration should change if re-sampled correctly.

Jerky movement with some audio

I have an iMovie that I imported a song into. Thee are other songs in there. When it gets to this song all transitions and Ken Burns effect pictures become very jerky. I tried the same section with different music and it was smooth. I have tried different variations but it is always jerky with this song. Any ideas?

What is the source of this song, where did it originate from?
One quick and dirty fix (without going thru the troubleshooting list and investigating this & that)
Just create an Audio CD with the song, after the CD has been burned you can import the song track into your iMovie project from the CD. Whole process should take about 5 - 10 mins.
Post back and let us know if this resolved the jerky playback.

Picture and audio not matching in Photo Booth

Hi, can anyone tell me why when I record a video using Photo Booth the audio doesn't match up to the picture? I recently recorded a video and when I went back to watch it I noticed that the video starts and then like 30 seconds later the sound starts. I tried to make another one and it was better but still off, the second one was only off by a few seconds. Is there a reason why this is happening and is there a way to fix it? Thanks for your time.

I have the same issue. Seems if the video is short, like 10-20 seconds the sound and video sync. But, if it's longer than that, then the sound is off and gets worse the longer the video. This is imbarrising since I have no other means and need to send a video to my professor.

Let's change the topic a little. The reason I'm using this impossible-to-navigate Win 8 computer is that my own Win 7 computer went belly up in terms of playing anything at all. a couple of weeks ago. Before that, no problem. It was a sudden change, and I don't visit questionable web sites. HP fiddled with the Dr Beats because I was trying to get stereo separation (a MUST have) which they were not ableto do, but I typed in some IP somewhere they told me to. Or it might be one of the Windows/HP automatic downloads that install whether I want them to or not. Facebook will not load in any reasonable time (many minutes to register that I clicked on something.) I got it to play these same videos by uninstalling Flash and downloading Chrome, but it literally takes ten minutes to load a two minute video, and after a few in a row it also displays a black screen requiring a reboot. It appears to be a DNS problem but I have zero idea on how to fix that. The computer is still in warrenty but I have found little help from HP, who with every problem I've had want me to send it back and do without it for three weeks, which is impossible. That computer is also a Pavilion, dv6, windows 7 home premium (which at least is useable, unlike W8,) product number B6S13UA#ABA. If I can fix that problem I won't have to go buy a Mac tomorrow.

How long are the clips that are out of sync? In my experience there is a bug that appears from time to time that throws DVCPRO 50 footage out of sync if you capture it in chunks longer than 10 minutes. The only solution I have found is to go back in a break up the capture so that clips are no longer than 10 minutes a piece. Look in the browser under the audio column and instead of seeing 48khz you will probably see something like 47.982345 khz or similar. If that's the case then you have to re-digitize. Make sure you are using log and capture instead of capture now, and try not to run any other programs on the mac while you capture.

Great picture, no audio!!

Trying to play audio from a Pro to a Samsung TV that has every connection known to mankind. Get a great picture (Pro to HDMI terminal) but can't get sound to work with separate audio cable no matter what I do. Gone into sound panel on preferences, chose external source, turned everything on/off, etc. (wife's windows laptop plugs right in to tv and plays sound without a problem). And Pro plays fine through normal headphones and built-in speakers. Any ideas?

Mac Pro DVD player not showing picture, only audio

When playing a DVD, my DVD player on Mac Book Pro does not show the picture, you only hear the audio. Any ideas?

Export to BluRay mixes up audio tracks

I've put together a video which is basically a bunch of still shots (imported as jpg's) with transitions, titles, and music) in 1080p 23.98 fps. The music was imported from my iTunes library. It plays fine in preview. When I export to BluRay (I actually create an .img file then burn it to bluray on my PC) the resulting movie loads and plays fine, but the sound is coming out of the rear channels on my surround sound system and not the front speakers as it should. The options for BluRay export are very limited. I don't see any way to change what is being done with audio. I would appreciate your suggestions on how to fix this.

Highlight the audio track in your Timeline. Open the Inspector, go to the Audio tab. For "Pan Mode" in the Volume And Pan section, set it to Default. You'll get a suround sound panner there. Adjust as needed.

Slideshow with 99 pictures has audio stutter

I have burned a DVD using iDVD that has 2 movies and 4 slideshows on it. I converted the songs I wanted to use to AIFF format in iTunes. The slideshows play and sound fine in preview. The burned disc plays and sounds fine in my MBP. But when I play them on something else the slideshow audio skips every time the picture changes. Each slideshow has less than 99 pictures. I'm using Verbatim DVD-R discs and burning at the slowest speed and highest quality.
I'm at a loss on how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated!

What transitions did you use? I've always used the simple dissolve transition and haven't had a problem with the audio.
If that's the transition you used then ignore this post as it will self delete in 10, 9, 8, .......

I have downloaded a video in mp4 format which I get each week. When playing the video I'm getting audio play back but no picture! I'm running os x 10.6.3 with latest version of ituens. Have tried re-downloading the file but no joy my friend has tried downloading the file & it plays ok so I'm guessing it's not a file issue.
Any help would be awesome!

I recently discovered this very annoying issue after buying a new computer that came with 7.6.6. To my dismay a number of .mp4 clips of mine don't playback video in QT7 so I can't edit them any more.
What worked for me was to download the 7.6.4 version of Quicktime for Leopard here:

Right-click the package, open package contents. Look for archive.pax.gz and copy it out to the desktop and double-click. It will unarchive a bunch of folders. You need the H264 component from the system/library folder and you need the Quicktime 7.6.4 application and if you want pro features, the system/library/preferencepanes file.
Right-click the broken 7.6.6 player and compress it then delete it - it crashes trying to use the working H264 component. In case Apple get round to fixing it, you can just unzip it.
Drop the 7.6.4 Quicktime app in your utilities folder or if you prefer, in the applications folder where it deserves to be.
Then drop the H264 component into /Library/Quicktime. Don't put it in your /System/Library/Quicktime. The /Library folder will override the system one and should you need to revert back to the broken H264 component, you just remove the one from /Library. You may need the mpeg4 component too.
Drop the prefpane into /Library/PreferencePanes to let you register QTPro.
Now my .mp4s playback fine with video and audio. Honestly, it's bad enough that Apple neutered QT Pro and tried moving people to QTX but to break such an important aspect of the playback on shipped machines is very poor.
Others have noted the issue as far back as 5 months ago and no fix from Apple:

It seems they regard Quicktime Pro as a legacy app and I wouldn't mind it if they added the same features in QTX but they haven't. We just have to hope they don't drop the app altogether like they did with a certain other pro application they nuked in favour of a less functional app.

I have a picture of an audio cassette (or square smiley face) on the screen of my Netgear Skype phone. Also the green busy light keeps on flashing. Could someone please tell me what it means, and how I can get rid of it.

I totally agree on the Audacity comment. Unless Vnur made a typo and meant to type Audition (I've done that many times myself). I used Audacity before I got my Creative Cloud subscription and HOLY BANANAS what a difference! Audacity is free...but you get what you pay for. Nice for the temporary solution if cash is tight, but comparitively you CANNOT beat the quality of Audition. Nuff said.

I just got Audition 1 month ago and am learning as I try to produce this podcast. What do you mean by, "sucking out about 6dB at 1.5kHz with a Q factor about 1, using the parametric EQ"? Could you provide a snapshot of the settings, please? I would be forever grateful!
As for the Spectrum Analyzer, I still haven't learned how to use it other than taking out annoying sounds, like a beep, buzz or whistle. Now that you've mentioned it here as a way to help me correct the audio, I'll go to YouTube and see if I can find some videos that could give me a crash course on this tool. Any favorite links would be welcomed and appreciated, though! I just see pretty colors! LOL...I know...I'm a dork.
Once I learn the language, I'm sure much of what you've said here will make complete sense. I will most definitely be referring to this post often until I understand what I'm doing.
