thx for replyg Chris. Do u mean even if the "thief" tries to send it in to an Apple store to "restore as new", it cant be done and the device is rendered useless to the "thief"?

The only thing you might do is enable Lost Mode, which will allow you to set a passcode on it (as well as a message and phone number where you can be reached) so it will be locked when and if it does go online. You can also receive an email informing you if it goes online so you can track it on icloud.com. See http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f0165.
In the meantime, you may want to change your passwords. -

Apple (and no one else) can not assist (with serial number or iCloud) in finding a lost or stolen iPad.
Report to police along with serial number. Change all your passwords.

Having the app is irrelevant.
The ONLY thing that matters is whether "Find My iPhone" was enabled on the missing device before it was lost/stolen. If it was not enabled, there is nothing that can be done. -

No, you can only potentially track it if you have Find My iPhone enabled on it, you can't do it via the serial number.
If this isn't hypothetical, then if your iPad has been stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc. and contact your carrier. -

I did this on my boyfriends iphone so now that we found my phone he keeps getting text messages sent to him notifying him none stop where my phone is at?? How do i let stop the text messages to stop?? It sends the location and long. lat. where its at....??
My wife is having the same problems as a reciever. She works in a school as a teaching assistant and her teacher sends messages that are mixed with previous texts from ages ago.

i had my iphone 4 stolen today, and i have called the network people they blocked my sim and phone. What i want to know is will the person who stole my phone be able to access my stuff, such as my contacts, texts, photos etc??
I really don't think that they have any interest in your data. They most likely plan on wiping the phone in order to sell it.
If they do restore from a backup, they would have to restore in Recovery Mode because it has a passcode on it. But that can't happen anyway because if they synced to a different iTunes library it would not have any of your backups. -

I need help . My find my iPhone app has a different name under it. I have and iPad
Touch or tap the field that you want to use/select and it should get a box around it ; then double-tap that field to activate/type it. Once you've entered your password you can do the same (i.e. touch to select, double-tap to activate) to gradually get into Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver and turn it off.
So to enter your passcode you first need to tap the 'slide to unlock' button to hightlight it (it should get a box around it), then double-tap it to unlock it. Then for your passcode tap the digit that you want and it should get a box around it; then double-tap that digit to type it; and similar for the other three digits in your passcode.
The manual (http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad) also that you should be able to switch voice-over off by connecting to your computer's iTunes :

So select Configure Universal Access at the bottom of the Summary tab and set Seeing to Neither -
