Jim Simon question??? (Source and Program monitor freeze)

Jim...Did I read correctly that you are NOT having the monitor freeze when your firewire output is set to desktop speakers?  Everybody I know is having the same issue I am.  When desktop speakers are set the source monitor and the program monitor both freeze when playing out through firewire.  If I set it to external device audio everything plays fine.
If you are not having this issue can you tell me what video and audio card you have.  I would like to figure this out if possible...
Thanks!

tClark,
I use two LCD screens PLUS a CRT TV, connected by firewire to a Panasonic DV deck, which is connencted through SCART to the TV.
I can not replicate your problem. Pressing PLAY, even with a HDV project and with playback settings like this:
you can see what it looks like from this picture during playback:
Sorry for the flash, but it is just a quick snapshot to show what it looks like.
BTW I use Vista64 SP2 and the video card is an ATI HD Radeon 4870 with driver 9.05

  • Source and Program monitor are black/blank...Just installed CS5

I drag my first video clip over to CS5 and put it in the timeline. I play the video in the program monitor and all I get is sound and no video. WHen I hit the spacebar/pause, I can then see the video in the program monitor. BUt when I go back to the play mode, it goes black again and I hear the audio.
THe Source and program monitor are giving me the problems.  Any help for a rookie?

  • Source and program monitors in Premiere are Pure Grey, no video, no frame for video

I can load a clip into the source monitor; it has the name on top ("Source: [clipname.MOV"], but there's no video there, not even a frame where video would go.  Let me be clear: this is not a black video frame situation.  The Source monitor is the gray background color edge to edge.  If I play the clip, the position indicator moves and I hear  sound.
The same situation for the program monitor.  Timeline is open, video and audio are there -- and the V1 track is enabled.  Play it and there's sound, the position indicator in the timeline and the program monitor track perfectly, but all there is in the program monitor is the grey background color edge to edge. The timeline that's open holds a amall edited piece that used to show up quite fine in the Program monitor.
When I go into the setting of the source and program monitors, I see that "composite video" is selected...
Ah, now the plot thickens.  If I choose something else, let's say "Vectorscope", when I select "Composite Video" again, it STAYS as a Vecotorscope.  In the dropdown Composite Video is checked (dotted, really), but the Vectorscope remains.  It's almost as if the video is not redrawing itself.
I would think there's some easy solution to this, that this must be a newbie kind of problem, and perhaps I am not phrasing the question right when I search the forums or google the problem, but I've been unable to find the answer on my own, so I appreciate the help in advance.

  • Source and Program Monitor not working after October CC 2014 Update

I updated to the October 2014 Replace of Premiere Pro and since then I have had major issues with the Source and Program monitors.
I can select a clip from the media browser and have it appear in the source monitor - click play.  The clip will play for a bit and the picture will stop, but the audio will keep going. After a few seconds the source monitor will just display a red screen and the audio will keep going.   The same things happens in the program monitor  (different clips that worked before the October 2014 update) will start displaying the yellow media pending screen - and then go to red after a few seconds.  Again - this is a mutli-camera sequence that worked before the October 2014 update.
I am pretty much dead in the water at this point.  And yes, I have rebooted, changed the Mercury play back engine from hardware to software.  Nothing seems to correct the issue.

I have had similar problems. In fact playback is so sluggish it is unworkable.
In addition Audio in nested sequences doesn't play back, and when it does it is intermittent. Totally unworkable!

  • Why are Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 source and program monitors playing each others footage?

Why are Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 source and program monitors playing each others footage? I import my footage into the project like normal. I drag it to the source monitor on the left hand side to set in and out points then I drag it to the time line. The footage drops into the time line with no problem but when I go to play the footage in the time line it plays back on the source monitor and not on the program monitor like it is suppose to. Other times ill drag the clip to the time line and trim it there and it will be fine and show up on the program monitor.  Then ill go try to set a clip to have in and out points (which is suppose to show up in the source monitor) but it shows up in the program monitor. The clip is not even in the time line it should not be on that monitor! I have updated the program to the late update. I have re installed the program numerous times and I have even ran the Adobe Clean up program. Couldn't find much on this problem. Please help thank you! I have a PC. My computer is also way over the recommended minimum specifications to have the program installed on.

Definitive Answer (I believe): It's all about this setting, "Write XMP ID To Files On Import" - which confirms that Adobe Premiere Pro is deliberately modifying the .mov file: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/preferences.html#WSE3BD4A43-7022-4fe6-97F5-95313 935347B
These posts give some background as to why having this setting enabled would be beneficial: one benefit being to be able to skip conforming files by matching the conformed file with the original using the embedded XMP tag :-

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 - end of media indicators different in source and program monitors???

Here are two screen grabs showing the right edges of the source and program monitors in PPCC 2014.1. Does anyone know why the end of media indicators are so different? Left is source monitor, right is program monitor.

Those are actually different indicators. The one on the left is the end of media indicator, which lets you know there are no more frames in the source clip. The one on the right is commonly known as the end of sequence indicator, which can also get to in the Source Monitor if you play a clip to the end and then hit Right Arrow.
Both indicators are controlled by the same option in the Overlay Settings dialog: End of Media/Sequence Indicators.

  • Oversaturated colors in Source and Program Monitor windows

After I updated to Premiere CC 7.1.0 the colors is much more saturated in the Source and Program Monitor windows and also in the Bin thumbnails.
Colors is fine when viewing the video under Export Setting, in the Title window, in the thumbnails on the timeline and also when I open a ProRes export in Quicktime:
I'm on a Macbook Pro bought in January 2013.
I've tried switching the renderer between CUDA, OpenGL and Software Only - no change. I've also tried unchecking "Composite in Linear Color" under Sequence Settings with no luck.
    How can I change this?
    Best regards,
    Kasper

I've been editing in Premiere since 5.1 and this has never been an issue before. So what you're telling me is I can no longer rely on colors when editing on my Macbook without having to plug in an external monitor?
I'm not buying that - it must be possible to view the same colors in both the Source/Program monitor and in the timeline/Title window like always.
What could the problem be associated to?

  • Quality Difference Between Source and Program Monitors

    Hi,
Hopefully somebody might be able to shed some light on my problem... I am working with a QT file in PP CS5 which is an animation created in AE CS5.
    File Details:
    Type: QuickTime Movie
    File Size: 507.4 MB
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 24
    Frame Rate: 25.00
    Total Duration: 00:01:00:00
Average Data Rate: 8.5 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Now when I view the footage in my Source with window (at 100%) it looks nice and crisp, bright and vibrant. When I view it in the Program monitor (at 100%), at both pre and post render stages the footage looks jagged, pixelated and much less vibrant, I've also noticed a slight colour shift as well.
I'm pretty new to PP CS5 - sorry if this is something really obvious or basic that I have overlooked!, but hopefully someone can help me out!
    Many Thanks,
    Neil.

    Neil,
The Source Monitor is a simple player (as is the tiny player window in the Project Panel), and plays directly from the AV file on the HDD, where the Program Monitor is displaying from the Timeline, and takes into consideration any decompression, any Effects, etc.. There are also several settings in the Program Monitor, that can affect the display, such as Quality (try on Highest), and whether one is displaying 1/2, 1/4, etc. Resolution. What are all of the settings in your Program Monitor.
Also, what form of MPE do you have enabled, and what is the make/model of your video card? At the same time, you might want to list your video driver number/date.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Media showing pending in project folder and source and program monitor

I have Premier Pro CC and Premier Pro CC 2014 and I now have an issue with some imported files showing in the project window as pending. If I open them in the source monitor or program monitor I get the same message. Some of the files are green until you hover over them then they go to the gold screen with text showing Media Pending. Any ideas what's going on? I'm on a PC with 32G memory and nvidia GTX680 GPU and I was not experiencing this issues before.

On the slight chance you're using that awful, notoriously bug-laden plug-in Magic Bullet Looks, it's causing this same problem, and you are guaranteed that by disabling it, your problem is solved.  It was a nightmare for me, because my whole project was color-corrected based upon that plug-in, so I had to downgrade to an earlier version from last year since Red Giant are totally stagnant in fixing its bugs.

  • Source and Program Monitor Empty

After installing the trial version of Premeire Pro I've been trying to make a quick test video using an MP4 file on my computer. I've been able to successfully import this file into Premeire however I am unable to see this video in the Source Monitor and the Program Monitor (after having added it to a sequence). I've tried re-encoding the file in AVI and WMV formats however neither of these two worked either. I've also tried just bringing in JPG and PNG images and have be unsuccessfully in viewing these as well. I have however been able to export a still image using the Monitors. So far after about 3 hours of googling the only possible answer to this issue I have been able to find is that Premeire requires 2 seperate harddrives to work; However this seems inaccurate as the program has made no attempt to warn me or even check to see if the computer I am using it on had 2 hard drives during install and start up, nor do I remember seeing it in the listed minimum requirements on the Adobe website. Does anyone have any idea what might be really causing the issue? I am more than happy to view a lower quality preview so long as I can actually see what I am doing before rendering in a higher quality.

  • Source and Program monitors are blank

I am editing in cs5 PP and it was fine up until yesterday when my monitors stopped displaying my footage. Im using it on a BRAND NEW asus laptop so I'm not sure what the issue is or why all of a sudden it decided not to work. I restarting my PC, reinstalled cs5 and its still the same thing. I'm working on a i7 core, 8gb ram with a nvidia geforece card, so I'm lost. Any ideas?
Also when i double click in the program monitor the frame of the clip on the timeline will show up but i won't scrub in real time; the audio will still play on both monitors, just not the video. I have quicktime installed also. Im not having this issue on my desktop either.
    Thanks!

Wow, I did that and it went back to normal! but why would installing quicktime make it do that? i installed it in the first place because after effects wasn't working properly without it, ugh. Thanks for your help.

  • Timeline Slow to Respond in Source and Program Monitors

    Hello all,
I've just upgraded to CS4, and am getting frustrated by the delay between hitting the space bar and the footage starting to play.
The footage is all 720p 25fps, captured by Cineform HD Link. It seems to take three seconds before the footage will start playing, does anyone have any ideas what the problem is?
Assets are all held on a fast (internal) 15k RPM, 300gb SAS drive, Project files on a different 500gb SATA drive.
    Computer Spec;
Windows Vista Business 32bit, Service Pack 1

    8GB FB-DIMM PC2-5300 ECC RAM
    ATI Radeon HD3870 TOP PCI-Express 2.0 512Mb DDR4 256Bit 2 x DVI-I DX10

I think you must upgrade to SP3 in order for CS4 to operate correctly, without the newest SP installed, you don't have the latest drivers etc, that's my understanding. You should have been warned about this when installing CS4 ? ( that you needed to upgrade to SP3 )

  • Source Monitor and Program Monitor not playing back video

The last time I used Premiere Pro CC was Oct 8 and the program worked fine. As of today, I reopened the project file and the source and program monitors are displaying nothing respectively. • Source monitor and program monitor boxes will not display video in full only half

I have adobe premiere pro cs6 and source monitor and program monitor boxes will not display video in full only half.  So the top half of both monitors are black and the bottom half is where the video displays.  But you can see that the video is missing the top part.  Like people's heads are cut off and can only see body.  How can i fix this so premiere pro cs6 will use the full monitors boxes to display my video?
