Jpg recovery after iphoto file movement?

Being a new Mac guy and totally ignorant of iphoto, I moved one of my iphoto files. I moved it back. Now those photos show up in iphotos as thumbnails (small photos) only. When selecting the thumbnails I get a prepetual little spinning wheel icon and the large photos do not appear. I did this blunder after I filled up my camera flash card and have no backup of the photos.
I suspect those photos reside somewhere on my Mac. Any ideas how they can be recovered? I tryed burning to a disk and got only grey squares symbolic of photos.
I will check this forum later. Been up too long working on this issue.
Good Night/Good morning.
John

I'm having a similar problem. I deleted a number of duplicates from the general "library," renamed several photos there, and consolidated a number of photos from two albums to one, suddenly all manner of problems including crashing and loading only the grey square outlines of the photos. I, too, can see only some photos at only certain size thumbnails, and when I select one to view, the "perpetual little spinning wheel." Only under the "Help" menu's "Solving Problems" does it say "Don't tamper with photos in the library." A bit late once you've needed to enter the "Solving Problems" area. Why does the program allow you to change and delete items in the library if that's a recipe for disaster? It shouldn't be an option if it's known to lead to this kind of thing. And what does "Help" recommend you do to solve the problem of having moved them? No recommendation!
Has anyone recovered their entire photo library and brought iPhoto back to normal operation after having done this?
Thanks,
Jordan

  • Lost albums after iPhoto Library move

I recently moved my iPhoto library to an external harddrive and lost all of my albums that I had organized my photos into.  iPhoto had trouble finding the library after I moved it, and the albums seemed to dissapear after that.
It's all backed up with TimeMachine, is there any way to retrieve the organized albums??
    Thanks!

First off tell us exactly waht you did
the correct way to move the library to an EHD
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Photo stream after iPhoto Library Move

OK, so I have moved my iPhoto library to an external hard drive (had to clear up space on my MBP).
I now want to open iPhoto & generate a new library. My intention is to use this going forwards. I will not be regularly attaching the hard drive with the old Library, this will effectively just be archived & used as necessary
My question relates to photo stream. I start iPhoto & set up my new Library, I then choose to turn on photo stream. I am warned that turning on photo stream for this library will turn it off for my old library.
I just need to make sure I don't lose anything on this process. In other words, by turning off photos tram in the old library, I am assuming that it freezes things 'as was'.
If by turning off photo stream to the new library I am going to lose stuff, I would like to now beforehand,
    Can anyone advise?

Only one iPhoto Library or Aperture library can use photo stream at at a time. If you enable Photo Stream for a new library, all automatic imports will go to this new library, and you can only share photos from this new library. But no photos will be deleted from the old library. The transit should be seamless,

  • Email can't find iphoto files after downl new firmware mbp 17"

    Does someone have this problem?
    Can somebody help me?

With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Quicktime 7 installed, but no luck with iPhoto 08 mov files

I have reinstalled QT7 from the SL CD following the instructions in
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678
however my videos still do not play from within iPhoto 08.
I reviewed the link above, only four steps, is there a requirement to reset QT7 as the default player that is not included?
    Thanks,
    Bob

There's no default player setting. Can you play a movie when accessing the file in the Finder?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Missing iPhoto files after time machine restore from Snow Leopard

My Snow Leopard machine HD failed the day after my new MacBook Air (Lion) arrived.  Migration assistant allowed me to use Time Machine to restore my iPhoto files from my external HD.  However, many of the photos are apparently gone, although the thumbnails remain (selecting the thumbnail results in a big exclamation point in a triangle).  I've tried repairing the iPhoto Library and updating the thumbnails, but still many photos can't be found.  I think I may have to fix the old machine, then try to restore that way, but would like to access the photos now.  Any suggestions?

Back up no matter what,  then
either  way with time machine and restore or
Target disc mode. You should be able to move the entire iPhoto Library

  • How do I move my iPhoto files to an external harddrive?

    Hi there
I only recently moved to Apple from Windows and am struggling to move my iPhoto files to an external harddrive, despite there being some quite old discussions on this on these discussion boards.
My late 2013 32GB Macbook Pro Retina is currently at full capacity because I have imported to iPhoto all of my photos from my past few months of travel. I have recently acquired a 1TB external harddrive which I have successfully partitioned, and I have backed up my Macbook Pro's harddrive using Time Machine to one partition.
I want to move my iPhoto library to the other partition to free up space on the local hard drive, but am needing some assistance.
    My questions are:
    1. How can I locate all of my iPhotos that I can see in iPhoto but nowhere else? I thought there would be some place I could find them and drag and drop onto the external hard drive.
    2. How do I go about moving the photos so they are only on the external hard drive? Do I have to move to the hard drive first and then delete?
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Alex

To move your iPhoto Library to an external drive is simple and straightforward:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    1. How can I locate all of my iPhotos that I can see in iPhoto but nowhere else? I thought there would be some place I could find them and drag and drop onto the external hard drive.
The point of iPhoto is that it replaces the File Manager for everything to do with your photos.

  • I am on 10.6.8, after trying Yosemite.  Now I can't access my iPhoto file

i am on 10.6.8, after trying Yosemite. Going back was troublesome.  I had to reload my apps from Snow Leopard disk.   Now I can't access my photos from iPhoto file. (iPhoto won't open.)   It says I must update.  The only available iPhoto is for Yosemite.

a suggestion for the future - do a bootable clone of your system prior to upgrading - then is is as simple as cloning back to your boot drive and you are instantly in business
Since you did not do this your choices are:
1 - restore your backup of the Photo library from before you upgraded (assuming hat you have reloaded the same version of the application that you had
    2 - Use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to downgrade your library - see section 10.4 o the IPLM help page - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/Help/table%20of%20contents.html
3 - start over with a new library and import your original photos from the Masters folder of your upgraded library

  • Import files.mov in After Effects.

    Hi everyone.
I'm coming to you because I have a new problem when I'm importing my files.mov in After Effect cs6.
I use "Toon Boom Studio" to make stickman animation (it's for a project for my school) and when I'm exporting the file, I set 25 fps, 1920x1080 resolution and Apple ProRes 422 compression.
When I'm playing the animation in quicktime, we can see that every parameters are corrects :
But when I import this file in After Effect CS6, a strange thing happened :
The fps of this file is to 26.042 and especially I don't have all the frames of my file. I mean there isn't the last frame of my animation. It seems that my animation was cut at the end. But it isn't when I played it in Quicktime or VLC.
I'm sorry for my english, I hope you will understand me.

    Hello,
You means changes the fps of the file to 26.042 to 25 ? If it's what you are talking about, I already try this, but it still miss the end of my animation.
I create an animation with a stickman of 8 frames, 4 differents :
And when I open it in After Effect, there isn't the last one. And it seems that the first picture last 3 frames in AE instead of 2.

  • Lost iTunes files, iPhoto files after upgrade to mountain lion.

I'm an idiot I didnt back anything up...
I upgraded from lion to mountain lion. At first the set up screen would not accept my apple id password so I created a blank(new) account just to get the computer to work.
It works ok but all my desktop files have disappeared, iPhoto files have gone and iTunes (although the drive has the files) is blank. I'm feeling a bit sick cause all my holiday snaps from my iPhone and all my preferences have just disappeared...
Loads of important stuff on the desktop has gone as well.
When I try to search for "all files" it says they have gone too. But that can't be right...right?
It's a disastor can anyone help?
    IJ

You say if I understand correctly that the files are still on the disk, if so you may be able to reassign them to another account. See this link but read carefully before you try it and backup those files now before you start. Hopefully taking a clone of your disk will backup your old data  but again check that they are one the cloned drive before any changes are made.

After Compressing file with Compressor when somthing move in the picture , it will get a kinda interlaced in the edges of it , the orginal files was Uncompressed DV and I add subtitle on it and then used the 90 min best dvd preset for it .
I really need some help .
    thanks a lot .

I would take  a step back here before going further.  William's suggestion might very well clean up the library but something obviously did not go right and to start mucking about in the library might make things worst.
For starters I'm surprised to see the folder structure you showed in your first post. Aperture stores managed masters (originals) by import date and time. The structure (in all libraries I've ever seen) looks like:
So something seems wrong with your master folder.
Also the three folders you showed the first and third are identical ( the middle one has the (1) added to which is how the OS handles duplicates in a folder) so this shouldn't even be possible, those folders should not be there.
I'm wondering if this is something left over from your using Duplicate Annihlator. Do you have a copy of the library before you ran the merge and used DA on it? Would be interested to see what the master folder looks like.
Finally when you ran the merge which library did you tell Aperture to use as the master, the one that was used to resolve conflicts?
Again William's suggestion might be all you need to do but it would be good to figure out want went wrong before proceeding.
    regards
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - A better first step might be to run the Aperture first aid tools, repairing and possibly rebuilding the library.

  • Time Machine recovery of library6.iphoto file in iPhoto 08?

    Hello everyone,
Is it possible to use Time Machine to recover a previous (uncorrupted) version of the library6.iphoto file? This is located within the iPhoto Library file, and is only viewable (as far as I know) by right clicking on the file to show package contents.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Vincent

A Time Machine back up is not readable from the FInder. It works in increments. So the first runis the whole object being abcked up, thereafter only the changes are recorded. So, to access the back up you need to restore. This produces the original plus all the changes since.
You have put your Library on a Disk Image. You need to restore the disk image and mount it to view the contents of the Library.
