JSF IDE options options options
Hey guys just a quick question.
I am currently using eclipse with exadel
I am a bit over this IDE it just seems slow not sure if it is eclipse or exadel or WTP but something is slow kinda annoying so thinking to move away.
I just wanted to know what you guys think in oracle JDeveloper vs Suns Java Studio creator?
The thing that is annoying me with JDeveloper (after following their tutorial) they create managed beans which bind all their UI components never really liked this solution find it funny they do this in their tutorial that aside which do you guys think is better?

I use Java Studio Creator. Why?
Because it was the first one I could install and get to run without jumping thru a lot of hoops.
And it was free.
I've used JBuilder since JBuilder 3, but after JBX, I could not get the features I needed for free.
And if anyone was going to stay on top of JSF, it was going to be Sun.
What do I like about it?
It seems to have all of the stuff together. I tried eclipse, but it had no GUI for building JSF components without a 3rd party demo package (mind you, that was several months ago).
What do I hate about it?
1) It can be slower than mole-asses, especially when starting the server.
2) It seems that every other time I try to run a program, I get an error saying it is already in the server - some problem with dropping the reference. Most of the time a clean rebuild fixes that problem. Annoying, but it works.
With regards to performance, I have to mention the system I am using.
I have a Toshiba satellite laptop with a 2.5Gh Intel processor and 1Gb memory. running Windows XP (Dual booting with Linux Fedora 3). I'm using the Windows version of JSC - have not tried the Linux version because when I boot in Linux I only get a 800 x 600 screen) (really ticks me off, but that's another forum). Bscically the screen resolution makes it unusable. You need at least 1280 X 1024.
I also have every database server known to mankind running in the badkground, so I figure that cuts down my effective horsepower by at least 25%.
After a couple of days, I keep getting low virtual memory warnings. Not sure if it is because of JSC or all the other background garbage. JSC itself seem to chew up about 500K of virtual memory (proably twice that when it gets going). Without JSC I'm using about 250K, with JSC in the background I''m using about 600-700K, when running, my virtual memory requirements go up to about 1.3 to 1.5G.
Basically, don't try this on a P3 with 256mb memory. IT IS A RESOURCE HOG, but it does a lot for you. Those CPU ticks and bits are being put to use (otherwise they are lost forever).
In General, I am very pleased with JSC2. I wish it were a bit leaner and meaner, but then I would complain that it does not have all the features.
My biggest complaint is that it was such a PITA to move from the early release to the current version. I used a lot of mastheads in my early programming. When they dropped that, it basically trashed all my forms and I had to rebuild all of them from scratch.
That should give you at least one input data point for evaluation.

BPC75NW - Workbook Options & Refresh Options Issue

We are on SP9 with Client 9. The issue is that in the Workbook Options, Refresh Options section the boxes to indicate refresh preferences are not accessible..instead they are "greyed" out. The box to Allow Changes by Users is OK..white box and checked. Impact on the reports is that cells containing EVCVW formulas for dimension member changes are not refreshed by a double click on the cell to select a new member...instead the old member stays put in the cell. However, the Action Pane CVW is updated with the new member selection. Executing the report results in the right data and updated cells in the body of the report. However, this is not correct behavior or so it seems. Why are the Refresh Option boxes inacessible - "greyed" out? How do we fix this so that the boxes are white and accessible to users once again?

This issue was resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling the client 9 BPC application. I'm still not sure why it occurred in the first place, but it is resolved.

Smart View - Options - Member Options - RadioButton "Top" or "Bottom"

I have installed Essbase 11.1.2 and am using Smart View with Excel 2007.
I would like to see Totals first and then on drill down get the details underneath of my total (instead of above my total, which is the default behaviour).
Under Options -> Member Options -> select Enterprise -> we can set the radio button from "Bottom" to "Top". Has anyone tried this already? Does it work for you?

Thomas, I actually just found out a way to show the Totals first. If you set up a SmartSlice you can choose in your options where you want your Ancestor to show up. You can choose to have it show up at the bottom of your detail or at the top. Hope this helps.

I am just wondering what is the purpose of these codes what are the values we need to enter for these codes.

I was able to erase the disk and reinstall the OS but not to choose the option to overwrite the disk, as the official Apple Support said previously.
I called again them, this time I was said that with an SSD disk the security option (overwrite the disk) is not available, and that is it, no way out; and they added very kindly that if I sell my Mac, the buyer could bring it to a Tech Center and they could eventually recover the data on it, even though this may be expensive
Is there anyone that has any suggestion to protect the data before selling a Mac; the guys at Apple Official Support did not seem very concerned about this

I was unable to access the laptop last night to create a new user; however my client would perfer not to try a second account since that would make it unusable for him while we test the second profile.
Also John Sophos was installed after this started to verify that it was not a virus/malware (I know pointless step but it has happened to me before) so I don't think that is the problem

Jsf IDEs??

hi. I am new to jsf. which JSF IDEs can be used now? I need alternative IDEs because I could not run any web applications on my computer with some IDEs such as java studio creator.
I tried to run some applications and new applications on Sun Java Studio Creator, but the IDE cannot start debug server. NetBeans 5.0 and 5.5 's setups does not even start.

I think you can't find easier IDEs.
I don't know the reason of your problems because you give no detailes.
About Netbeans I can guess that if instalator doesn't start (no window is opening) instalator can't find JVM. Try to execute instalator with option -is:javahome. List of options you can find with -is:help (example from command line: ./netbeans-5_5-linux.bin -is:help or similar in windows).

Reluctantly - moving to another JSF IDE

Hi,
After nearly 8 months of using JSC, I have decided to bite the bullet and move to another JSF IDE. My company has a JSC system in place and working fine, but overall the performance of the IDE is not good enough.
Having recently used 2 other IDE's from IBM and Oracle, whilst not as functionaly GUI rich, they offer more in terms of IDE responsiveness, refactoring and local app server memory size.
I would have thought by this point, the IDE would have been sorted out by now. Right clicking and waiting 30 secs for something to happen is not acceptable in this day and age.
I appreciate what the JSC team have done over the last 2 years in terms of JSF for the masses, but, lets be honest, and I don't think I am alone here, it is so frustrating trying to develop in it!!!
Can anybody in the JSC team let me know if there any updates coming out soon, or will it be bundled with Netbeans? I have 3 fairly big projects coming up and once I move to another tool, I will never use JSC again.

I have always wondered why java IDEs lack the RAD tools they have in VisualStudio.Net where you can drag and drop rich components for web applications, such as a web calendar component or database table with pagination and sorting.
I was pleasantly surprised when I installed and played with Studio creator. I think it still lags in performance and features, compared to VS.Net, but it�s getting there. I run it on IBM ThinkPad T41, with 1.5 GB RAM and it works just fine. I am also running MS SQL server 2005 express on the same box.
I have tried IBM Rational Web Developer, Eclipse 3.x (with all kinds of plug ins), and Java Studio. I think Java Studio is the best, but not as good as VS.NET -- keep in mind there is a free version of VS.NET called Visual Web Developer Express. I would strongly recommend Java Studio team to play with it to learn and copy some of its features, such as lots of rich web components, good performance, and great css/style editing features. As an example, Sun Studio has only a few design themes, but VS.NET has dozens of themes and styles for tables, look and feel, etc.
Java world is ahead of Microsoft on the back-end/server side, but they are clearly behind when it comes to user interfaces. I really wish they can catch up quickly, before JSF becomes another cold fusion. I think part of it is that Microsoft, due to its more than $40 billion cash reserves, can afford to have hundreds of developers working on VS.Net. Where as, it sounds to me, there are 10-15 developers on Sun Studio Team. Just look at tons of documentation, tutorials, examples, sample projects on MSDN related to VS.NET and compare to that on Studio Creator web site.
Nonetheless, I am still impressed with Studio Creator, and I really wish they have 3.0 sooner rather than later. This is the best IDE for java based web apps. Creator team seems very creative and agile. They just need to quickly close the gap with VS.NET by providing additional components (i.e. vertical and horizontal JSF menus/dropdowns), about a dozen more themes, ability to copy and customize themes visually, additional styles (like in VS, you can quickly change a table style from default to one of the dozens, such as professional, contemporary, etc), more and comprehensive examples, tutorial, books, etc. and even a possible certification in Studio Creator/JSF. How about Sun Certified JSF Developer and Sun Certified developer for Studio Creator?

I am using Netbeans 5.5. There is a plugin for faces avaliable if you need more support for the faces configuration.
Unfortunately there is no support for MyFaces.

JSF: dynamic radiogroup with optional inputtext

Hi, I'm trying to create a jsf page for a survey webapp.
The problem is that I need to do a "unique answer" type of question. I have to render some dynamic options and in some cases an inputtext field to allow free text as answer, and, of course, I have to get the user answer to store the info in the DB.
It would be something like this:
Choose your DB:
[ ] Oracle
[ ] DB2: version ______
[ ] MySQL
[ ] other: ______
I have a List of "Options" in my backing bean (each one holds the text of the option and a flag to indicate the need of the inputtextfield). That's why it has to be dynamic.
I haven't found a way to do this with common jsf or tomahawk tags, and all my attempts to solve it using tables have failed. Does anybody have an idea on this?

Yep, I posted a question there. But that thread asks for a slightly different thing. There, the options in the selectOneRadio are fixed so he can build a hardcoded datatable in the jsp. Here I can't do that because I don't know how many options do I have to display or the text of each one. The only thing I know is that I will have to display some options and some of them will have to be associated to an inputtext field.
If I had to do this page without the inputtext feature, I would do something like this:

</h:selectOneRadio>I tried to mix this with the table solution you proposed on that thread, but I couldn't make it work. Could you explain it a little more?

Idea Centre B540 "Optional Features"

I am just about to buy the B540 online but im held back by certain important features being noted as "optional" (ie: HDMI output, 3D Vision, TV Tuner, Blu-ray etc.). I cannot seem to find out how these optional features are added to my cart/spec nor how much these "optional features" cost, or even if they are in fact included in the spec.
Has anyone purchased this model and know the answer to these questions?
NB: Its really annoying that I can't call or chat to anyone at Lenovo outside normal working hours, nor can I find an email address to send my query.....appologies if I am wrong and just not looking in the right place!

MSI P965 Neo-F Sata & IDE presentation (& boot options)

I have purchased a MSI P965 Neo F motherboard.

I have flashed the bios to the lastest 1.18 revision.
If you look at this board, you'll find it has 5 SATA ports.
- 1 SATAII port by JMicron JMB361.
- 4 SATAII ports by ICH8.
Questions:
1.) The machine only appears to be able to boot from the 1 jmicron sata port.
2.) within the bios any disks plugged into the board on the other 4 ports show up as "ide" disks, this could be wording or this could be some cheap bus trick

Why is the "Show my windows and tabs from last time) option in Options- General is grayed out and will not let me restore previous sessions?

After updating to Firefox 6, the option in the Options-> General section to "Show my windows and tabs form last time" is grayed out and will not allow me to set it. If I go to the Firefox homepage, the option does not appear, nor does it appear if I go under the History or Firefox tab.
I tried to follow the directions on this website on the Session Restore page, but that seems out of date or just not helping.
I even went to the about:config (about:session restore does not work) and there was nothing I saw that would work

Firefox 6 seems to change your settings in Tools Options Privacy to "Never remember history". Once you change this to "Remember history" it will restore your previous session, as long as the setting in Tools Options General Startup is set to "Show my windows and tabls from last time"
Bad idea Mozilla - installing 6 should pick up your settings from 5. This problem will confuse many users.

Script combining menu command with options bar option?

Would like to call the Transform:Scale command AND activate the "Maintain aspect ratio" option from the options bar.

This shoud call the transform command with the aspect ratio linked. And you should be able to use it in a Configurator button.

Upgrading from 3.6 to 10, I find that a link opens in the current tab not a new one. I don't see this option in options. How do I enable it?

In the old version of Firefox 3.6.x, clicking on a link automatically opened a new tab in the current window. You could option whether to switch to it immediately or just keep opening tabs from links in the tab being used.
Now, in 10, I need to manually open a new tab before I click on a link or it will open in the tab being used.
No so convenient. I preferred the way it was.

The default behavior of Firefox (all versions) will open a link or bookmark in the current tab when clicking only with the left mouse button.
