Jumpy Apple TV

I have MacBook Air and have been using Apple TV with i with no problem until a recent update for Apple TV. Now the picture and sound jump every few seconds and its not a streaming issue. can anyone help? I have tried restarting.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Jumpy playback from image sequences rendered in Apple Prores and then exported to h264

I will start by saying I have been using FCP since 1.0 and am in no way new to this software, but this issue has me going crazy.
    First the Specs:
MacPro 2 x 2.66 Quad cor Intel Xeon
    16 gig Ram
    OS 10.9.2
FCP 7.0.3 (sorry but I am not a fan of FCP10 at all)
In other words, a beast of a system that has played back everything I have ever built on it for years until now. So now for the issue: I work with an amazing 3D Max builder and we have created a building animation exported from that program into and image sequence ( we have tried JPG, TGA and PNG still all with the same effect). I open Quicktime 7 Pro, build the image sequence, save as .mov, import into FCP and drop it into my 1080p30 Apple Prores (HQ ... we also tried SQ) timelines. The timeline renders perfectly and I can play the video perfectly through my system out of Firewire 800 to my Motu V4HD device which then converts the signal to HDMI to my 55" LED TV. The video and playback is perfect.... until:
If I try to play back the same exact time line into an exported video file, the file will play back with random jumpyness in it. I say random since you can play it back 10 times and it will hiccup during playback at different spots in the video. If you review every frame in the file though using Quicktime 10, 7 or VLC viewer, every frame is perfect. So, it must be the data rate right? Wrong. I have exported now to H264 MP4, M4V, MOV , ect, etc at different data rates from 4mb to 40 mb per second. They all have the same randow jumpyness to it. So it must be my computer right? Nope. I have a Macbook pro that is more powerful than this machine and I rebuild the file using the same method (something I have done a thousand times before) and the exported file does the same thing on that machine. I had my friend do it on his machine... same thing. ERRRR....
We have even tried using After Effects and Premier to the same result. Rendered it straight from Quicktime Pro, same. Rendered it to 720p30, same. Render it to 24fps, same. I had another editor render it using whatever methods he wanted to use... same. Tried Compressor, SAME.  Tried Adobe Media Encoder, SAME......We even, god forbid, used a PC running Premier and built the image sequence and rendered to h264 at 30fps, 5mbs.... @#$@#$ SAME!
We just remade the 3D Studio Max export into a 60fps animation since I thought that the individual frames we appearing too far apart and thus causing the jumpyness. That was causing the playback of the upclose objects flying across the screen fast to appear jittery, but not the random playback jumps. The 60fps did smooth out the animation greatly during fast flybys, but the playback jumps are still there in all players, QT, VLC, the web, etc.
I was starting to think this issue is realted to Mavericks, but since the PC did the same thing that is not it either. I have linked a sample of the clip below exported to 720p30, 25mbs... something that is much smaller than the original and should playback smooth very easily on any of my systems.
FYI: I have now opened numerous projects I have edited over the last few years and noticed that all of them are now jumpy, so this isn't just an image sequence issue. While the other projects don't use image sequences and instead are shot footage edited together, there is still the random jump (far less than the image sequence as you will see) but they are now there... ***? I have cleared preferences in FCP which helps for a short period of time, but once exported I get the same glitch.
As I said... I am stumped... ANYONE have ideas for me to try?
Here is a sample file for you all to see and please tell me if anyone does not see the issue after playing it several times in a row.
    www.media3lv.com/switch/NORTH-sample-720p30_25mb-sec.zip
One last thing to note... my main goal for these videos is YouTube or Vimeo playback via our company website. I have a few other animations online right now using YouTube and the problem is also showing there. At first I thought it was just my videos, but I have looked at numerous YouTube videos now showing 3D animation and alot of them are jumpy.
    www.supernap.com/supernap-building-design.html
    www.supernap.com/supernap-tscif-exchange.html
These don't show the issue as bad since the camera fly is much slower, but why is this occuring and is it coming from my source, or is this a known youtube issue? I can program this using out own modules, but YouTube and Vimeo allow for multiple resolutions and a checker script which makes it easier to share over all devices at all quality up to 1080p.
    Advice is welcome and appreciated?

I have tried at actual, full screen, using 1080p30 size from the original compressed to 4mbs (something my system can handle without blinking), 720p30, etc. etc. etc.  Nothing stops the jumps. Even the activity monitor shows only 5%-15% processing being used by QT and/or FCP.
I plan to pull my old G5 out of the closet, it runs 10.6.8 and is still rock solid for video editing in FCP7.  If it plays smooth on that 8 year old system then I know it's Mavericks. I'll try that tonight. It floors me though why the original 1080p30 will playback perfect via FCP and Motu, but once I turn of external monitoring and just try to play it via the preview monitor it is jumpy as **** and then the exported file does the same thing.  So strange.  I even deleted prefences of FCP and that does help with screen playback initially, but it always gets jumps in it after playing for a while.
I knew I should not have started using Mavericks and I HATE FCP10.

  • Jumpy wired Apple Mouse issue solved

I just want to share this with you whom has the same issue I had.
A few weeks ago I got myself a new Mac Mini and I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything (including Applications) from late 2009 Mac Mini to my new mid 2011 Mac Mini. Both Macs use Lion OS. It was a successful migration accept the mouse is acting funny on my new Mac. The mouse behaves jumpy.
The jumpy mouse happens when QuickTime 7 Pro, QuickTime X or/and iTunes are launched. When I quit them, the mouse goes back to normal behavior. I also notice that when any of these applications are launched, CPU usage reaches between 100% and 230% certainly and then drop back to 45% inconsistently. I believed what causes the CPU spike is totally QuickTime related. I realized it’s either its extension, preference or somethings else that needed to be taken care of.
Since I just purchased my new Mac Mini, I was entitled to free Mountain Lion upgrade. So I upgraded and hoping it will resolve my jumpy mouse issue. Somehow, it didn't but I love the new features from Mountain Lion though.
Finally, I decided to delete QuickTime 7 Pro completely. I also deleted com.apple.quicktime.plist in the Preferenc folder. Restarted my Mac. Voilà! Jump mouse stops completely. I launched QuickTime X and also iTunes, it doesn't cause any jumpy mouse issue anymore.
    I hope this will help.

I have a Mac Pro 2007 (2,1) at work. Recently I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion (10.7.5) which is the last supported OSX for this model. After updating is finished, jumpy mouse symptom appears. I tried deleted all the preference filies but it did not work. To make long story short, it's the video board that caused the problem.
About a year ago I upgraded my video card to ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphic Card. It works fine on Snow Leopard but not on Lion. On Lion, not only it causes jumpy mouse but also screen flickering on second monitor every few minutes or so.
So I uninstalled the card and put back the original OEM video card that came with it. The jumpy mouse stops and everything is back to normal.

  • Jumpy playback from my apple tv

I have had my apple tv for about a month, can watch movies downloaded from i tunes with no bother. Downloaded a tv show and now watched it through the apple tv and it was really jumpy and jittery playback. i then checked another tv show and that was the same, however tried a movie and playback was perfect. can someone help me as i'm at a loss. I was streaming it from my macbook pro.... any help would be excellent

it sounds like an issue with your network. Also is b/g/ or N standard router.
Try restarting your router and ATV2.
Are you doing anything else on the network while your watching the downloads

  • TS2972 Music played through Apple TV the streaming is really slow & jumpy

I have just installed a new Apple TV & have my music library loaded in iTunes library on a new MacBook Pro. However, when I try to play music track through Apple TV the streaming is frustratingly slow and track often jams after a few seconds and/or become really jumpy etc. The wireless connection appears to be strong enough - showing full bars in the wireless icon on laptop. But the apple TV signal only shows 2/3 bars out of 5.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix? Do I need to compress the music files (from downloaded CD's) into a smaller file size or different format? I notice that music that I've downloaded from iTunes store seem to stream & play without any problem.
Meanwhile the photo library loading is also painfully slow through Apple TV - assume this is due the same problem?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You need to get your network working better than it is.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

  • Trackpad jumpy. Not able to use MacBook.  Has anyone heard from Apple on this pervasive issue?

My late 2008 13" MacBook (Snow Leopard) has become so erratic that it is almost impossible to use.  (Using another MacBook now).
Hard to believe it is not an OS or update issue since it appears to be very pervasive.  Anyone heard from Apple??
Any fix other than 3-prong plugs and dusty corners?  (Wipe the trackpad many time and the apple power cord is already 3-prong).

Some users have reported issues with battery expansion causing problems with their trackpads. Try removing the battery and testing the MacBook while using just the power cord. If this works, replace the battery.
    Best of luck.

  • Jumpy video playback from iPhone 5 to Mac Book Pro

    Hi
I recently took some footage on my iPhone 5 and downloaded onto my 2007 Mac Book Pro via iPhoto. Unfortunately, mid download iPhoto became unresponsive and I had to Force quit.
After restarting iPhoto I saw that the videos had not been downloaded so I started the process again. It was a seemingly successful download so I deleted the videos from my iPhone.
Upon playback all the video's are jumpy. Other older video's all ready in the library are fine.
It seems all the info is in there as each time I play a video back I see different parts of the video ie: the jumps are not all in the same place each time.
    Is it a playback 780 v 1080 issue?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

  • IOS 8.1, Airplay on iPad Mini and Apple TV

Just to add to all the 8.1 issues on my iPad, has anyone tried using Airplay to screen share to Apple TV?  It doesn't works at all.  Its completely jumpy, it stalls and you simply can't use it.  It worked fine on IOS 7.x with no problems.
Shut the iPad off and try the Macbook, great it works well even on Yosemite.
Something else to add the Apple's list.

    Hi lesliefromstockton-on-tees,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having a performance issue with Airplay from an iOS device. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Problem streaming HD Movies to Apple TV through home network

Got my new Apple TV yesterday but has some quirks. The biggest one is I'm in the middle of watching an iTunes HD movie I own -- streaming it to my Apple TV on my home network -- and the video starts stuttering halfway through the movie. It was playing with no sound, the video was jumpy, etc.
I stopped the movie, unplugged the Apple TV, tried playing the movie again -- I did this a couple of times -- and same result. This issue didn't happen until about an hour into the movie -- for the first hour of the show it played perfectly. Just before the movie, I'd watched an HD TV show I downloaded from iTunes earlier in the day, and was streaming this to my new Apple TV over the home network, and it played fine.
The other issue I'm seeing is it takes a looooooooooong time to load my iTunes Library from my computer. I selected my shared library, and then it takes about five times (or more) as long to load the list of movies compared to my older Apple TV (the previous generation 160GB hard drive model).
Is anyone else seeing these issues, and is there a fix?

I am having the same problem streaming HD anything, Movies or TV shows. It seems to try to buffer more of the video than when using SD video anything. When playing SD anything, it seems to start playing very soon after pressing play.
My content is on a spring 2009 iMac

    4GB RAM

  • Acrobat X Pro video playback is jumpy

I have created an interactive PDF from InDesign, placing an FLV file which will play back in the PDF. When I preview this on my new iMac 27" it works fine. However when viewing on a Mac Mini (bit old) it is very jumpy if it works at all.
Is this a machine capability thing? If so, does anyone have any idea why doing the same thing with other videos was not an issue? Also why the movie plays fine if opened directly in Adobe Media Player?
Is there anything I can do about it?
    Thanks in advance

I'm having the same problem. TV shows played great on itunes 6, but they are unwatchable on itunes 7.
My computer is only an AMD Sempron 2500 with 512mb of Ram. However, x264 plays great full screen.
The problem is itunes and its new DRM.
My solution for now is to stop buying TV shows from itunes until apple fixes this problems.
Since my computer plays x264 video without problems, I'm not going to upgrade my computer to compensate for apple's bad software programming.

  • Jumpy ken burns effect

I have been very happy using the ken burns effect when exporting slide shows from iphoto to idvd. however, i am working on an iMovie project now (i have to use iMovie due to video clips) and I find the Ken Burns effect has a jumpy quality from one photo to the next. i never had this problem with iphoto slideshows, the transitions from one photo to the next were always smooth. it almost feels like the effect speeds up as it pans over the photo, then jumps to the next one and speeds up again. i am a novice at this and hope their is a simple solution. i have been working on this project for months now and would hate to start over. any suggestions?

it almost feels like the effect speeds up as it pans over the photo, then jumps to the next one and speeds up again. i
Yes, that's a known problem. Unfortunately, there is no ideal workaround.
It helps to use slow zooms/pans. It also helps to add a transition between the clips, which covers the first second or so and helps eliminate the sense of acceleration. Another solution is to set the clip duration a second or two longer than you really need, then trim off the end.
There are third-party products such as Still Life and Photo to Movie that let you create Ken Burns-style clips you import to iMovie. Some users prefer those to Ken Burns.
Please tell Apple you don't like this "feature". Maybe it will be fixed. Unfortunately, while the iPhoto programmers got Ken Burns right the first time, iMovie programmers keep dropping new bugs into the Ken Burns Effect with each new version of iMovie. It's really quite astonishing.

  • Trying to watch Stevenote from MWSF, QT is jumpy and there is no sound!

    Hi Folks!
I've trying to watch the Stevenote from MacWorld San Francisco
2006 (from the link on the Apple page). Basically I can watch the first 15 seconds of video with sound, then the sound cuts out and as Steve walks on stage the video goes pixelly, jumpy cutty and slow.
Previously, I managed to watch the first 20 minutes of it fine, then the video did all of the above.
I have Quicktime 7.0.2, on a Compaq Presario S3060AN from 2003 runnin Windows XP Home Edition. The video I am trying to watch is linked to from the Apple site.
I would appreciate it if someone could help me here, as I didn't get to attend MacWorld and I would reallly like to watch the Stevenote.
    Thanks!
    Anthony

THe soundbar is showing as headphones instead of external speakers.  I think that may be the problem, but have not found a way to change.

  • Imported AVCHD footage jumpy

I've shot some AVCHD footage with a Panasonic HMC-150, imported into FCP 7 via Log & Transfer, and when I go to edit, it is extremely jumpy in the viewer. More specifically, the picture freezes while the audio continues to be heard. Then the video catches up to the audio. Then it starts all over again.
As per the instructions I received with the camera, I've set my Sequence Preset to Apple ProRess 422 (LT) 1920 X 1080 60i 48kHz.
Capture Preset: DVCPRO HD - 1080i60 48 kHz
    Device Control Preset: Non-Controllable Device
In Preferences within Log & Transfer, I chose AVCHD under the AVCHD Plugin.
I've read some places where disabling or getting rid of Perian helps the problem.
I tried that, and it didn't work.
If anyone can help, I'd certainly appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kevin

Where is this media stored? What sort of hard drive?
In Preferences within Log & Transfer, I chose AVCHD under the AVCHD Plugin.
That option does not exist. Under the AVCHD plugin you will see AVCHD on the left, then a drop down menu on the right that lists the codec it will be converted to. It defaults to ProRes 422. Playback of ProRes 422 takes at least a FW800 connection.
Once you import the media, put one clip on the timeline and FCP will ask "do you want me to change the settings to match the clip?" Click yes. Then the settings will match. If that is what happened, then your footage imported as ProRes LT, which is a fine codec.
The issue might be where the media is stored.

Sorry to ressurect a semi-dead thread, but I'm having issues with this as well.  Using my bluetooth headset and bluetooth mouse causes pandora to speed up and slow down all the time (really weird sounding) and then intermittant drops.  I'm on a 2011 macbook pro with 16gb of ram and a 500gb ssd, 2.3ghz i7 etc etc.  I don't really think I'm doing something that outside of the box, i mean I get that there are limits to how much data can be pushed through bluetooth, but you'd think that would be within reach...  Can you prioritize the data such that the sound quality is never affected?  I'd rather my mouse be a bit jumpy than the sound be all funky...

  • Jumpy timeline, dropped frames - please help!

I am experiencing a persistent problem with a jumpy timeline that surges forward - (it looks like dropped frames). I have all of my media on an external hardrive with 160 GB to spare, I have formatted that HD as Mac OS extended "Journaled". I have made RT as "Safe" and video quality as "dynamic", frame rate as "dynamic". It seems to be unnoticable when I reduce the size of the canvas to below 50% but at that point I am going cross-eyed in trying to decipher the picture on the screen.
    Question 1:
Do I need to reformat my HD without " Journalled" or is this not a problem?
Any other ideas how to resolve?
    Question 2:
What is Pulldown Pattern and what setting is best for my project (720 x 480 DV/DVCPRO - NTSC 29.97 fps)?
Any help in these matters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Thanks for your suggestions.
All in all, I tried everything but to no avail. i suspect that in my trying to figure out solutions, i may have made some illogical formatting/preferences for my media and project on the hole. I ended up just starting from scratch with a new project, rudimentary preferences, imported my media - and it has been perfect ever since.
