Jumpy video

Having the same jumpy video problem since installing Lion that others report. From what I've read so far, seems to affect a number of differnt system configurations, so I'm wondering if it is a problem related to the Lion OS. Other ideas? Anyone know of a fix in the works? Thanks.

Does it tend to freeze if you bump the laptop?

  • Jumpy Video over imported audio clips on time line.

I have faltering or jumpy video occurring only where I have imported music. this has never happened before. It happens on all music even aiff.
I need help, cant finish last DVD in a sequence of five.

    Hi Lowstone and welcome!
Are any of those audio files imported from iTunes?
That would produce the symptoms you mention if the tracks were copy protected (Get Info in the file menu will tell you).
The workaround is to burn those tracks to a CD, re-import them from that CD into iTunes, save them as AIFF files, and import them into iMovie when they should work fine.

  • Since installing Premiere Pro CC 2014 upgrade, Mac Pro jumpy video and freezes constantly

Since installing Premiere Pro CC 2014 upgrade, Mac Pro jumpy video and freezes constantly. Worked perfectly before. Anyone else finding these issues? I'm running a quad core Mac Pro, so it's definitely not the hardware.

I've maxed out the memory assignment, but this isn't a memory problem per se.
It looks like certain Premiere Pro conditions are associated with a huge increase in kernel_task memory, zeroing out any available free memory.  In my case it seems to be associated with effects applied to titles or jpgs  or imported psd (Photoshop) files.
Program restart pulls kernel memory back to the 1.3gb normal size.
Here's where I am at startup:

  • Elements 3.0.2 jumpy video playback in monitor

i am using premiere elements 3.0.2 and get really bad jumpy video in the monitor window. this is for very short mpeg4 clips that play beautifully in other media players on my laptop e.g. zune software - so this is NOT a computer hardware issue.
i am using an xacti camera that shoots 720p hd at 30fps and i have set all the project settings correctly - i am shooting 720p at a high bit rate.
any clues on what is causing the jumpiness?
    thanks
    andrew

i rendered a section of the timeline using the enter key - that gave me smooth playback. it's disappointing that premiere 3 wont play mpeg4 hd smoothly without this.
next i outputed the whole project to mp2. i am not clear why it wouldn't allow me to output to an mp4 hd format. what i am finding is that this software has tons of limitations with respect to editing hd
    in mp4.
any clues on whether 7.0 is improved in this department?

  • "jumpy" videos

When i try to watch a vieo on youtube or google video, they are jumpy an dont play properly and the sound is the same, anyone know why this is happening? thnxs in advance

It's not so much the processing power of the Cpu.
I have a G4 at 350 MhZ ( in fact the very first G4 ever came out ), and I had that "jumpy" video too.
As soon as I replaced the Ati Rage videocard with a 128MB PCI Geforce FX5200 it all worked as if by magic, also the eyecandy in OSX (like the cube when fast-user switching is turned on / the "ripples" when a new widget appears ) , suddenly worked
By the way - my G4 is in fact the very same machine like the Blue/White "smurf" Towers, except the tower is the grey/acrylic one and instead of a G3 it has a G4 cpu, but the Board is identical.
I have run almost every release of OS X on that baby and it works very well and fast with Tiger.
It was one year later that Apple changed the Motherboard to the AGP based one that would allow the Leopard. On PCI based machines you are stuck with Tiger max.

  • Jumpy video playback from iPhone 5 to Mac Book Pro

    Hi
I recently took some footage on my iPhone 5 and downloaded onto my 2007 Mac Book Pro via iPhoto. Unfortunately, mid download iPhoto became unresponsive and I had to Force quit.
After restarting iPhoto I saw that the videos had not been downloaded so I started the process again. It was a seemingly successful download so I deleted the videos from my iPhone.
Upon playback all the video's are jumpy. Other older video's all ready in the library are fine.
It seems all the info is in there as each time I play a video back I see different parts of the video ie: the jumps are not all in the same place each time.
    Is it a playback 780 v 1080 issue?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Mark

  • Exporting 600MB results in jumpy video

When I export a largish video (7 minutes), I get a jumpy .mov file. The audio is fine. Only the video is jumpy. And I have a high-power system.
I've been using these expert export settings for a while, but up to now all my videos have been under 2 minutes in length. This one is 7 minutes long. Based on the export lengths of previous videos, this should export to a 600MB .mov.
I have a top-of-the-line computer, a new MacBook Pro, 2GB RAM. My DV file is on the internal hard disk, and I'm exporting to an external 500GB 7000RPM LaCie drive via Firewire.
I'm exporting a 7 minute widescreen video to 640x360 using H.264 at 24 key fps. I've tried both 1700 kps and automatic rate (high quality). I'm de-interlacing and allowing re-ordering.
I can export a few clips at a time just fine, but when I try to export the whole thing it seems to quit early, the entire video is represented, just with frames that are shown for much longer than they should be. Ten minutes into the export it'll say "24 minutes remaining," and then a minute later it'll be done.
I do have a still frame in there that I'm playing for 10 seconds, but I was able to export that along with the adjacent clips with no problem. When I go to export to iPod, I get a new dialog screen saying it first needs to render my "still/slow motion/reverse" clips. I don't get that exporting via expert settings.
Any suggestions on how I fix this? (I've rebooted, updated the OS, etc.) Is there a work-around? Maybe multiple exports, but then I'd have to concatenate them together for yet another export and further reduced image quality.
    Thank you!
    ~joe

More information: That still frame was causing the problem! But I don't know why, and I still need it in there.
I tried shrinking the video dimensions down to nothing and reducing image quality, but none of it eliminated the jumpiness of the video.
But when I removed that 10 second clip I made from a still frame, suddenly the export came out clean.
I'm going to close this thread and open a new one asking how I play a still frame. Thanks!

  • Audio out of sync and Jumpy video

I can't seem to get through a project without some sort of critical adobe issue cropping up. Either theres a problem in the editing, or theres a problem in the exporting. Today, its the exporting.
I just did a large project (6 x 30 minute videos) for a client, and it is a roundtable discussion with slides. Inside premiere, everything plays back fine, but when I exported, the audio got out of sync and you'll see all the slides jump around.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/qz0mudqfj224y5g/jumpy%20export.mp4
Anyone have the foggiest idea of whats happening? Its a 2012 rMPB with 8GB RAM and SSD. Exported down to 720p MP4 for review. Nothing else was running on the machine, I just let it render out last night while I was asleep.
    Please help!!

Last night I exported a queue via AME and sent it to the same USB3 drive that the project was on.
Today, I exported only one, straight from Premiere onto my Internal SSD and have the same exact issue.

  • Adobe Elements 7 - Jumpy Video

i'm trying to make a video using an avi file i have on my computer. the file plays perfectly outside of adobe, but as soon as i start editing it in elements the preview and final product are both really jumpy and skips alot. help?
i tried to add a video of what exactly it is doing so you might get a better idea of what i'm talking about

As an aside, both Xvid (open source) and DivX are delivery formats only. They are heavily compressed and not meant for editing.
For SD material, like from a DVD-Video (that is already compressed to MPEG-2), you will want to rip/convert to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/AV Audio.
Now, with 100% DVD-compliant (very important) .VOB's, PrE can usually Import the .MPEG-2 inside the .VOB's and edit them. The way to do this is to copy the full contents of the VIDEO_TS folder to the HDD and then use Get Media to Import the .VOB's. [Note: you can just copy over the .VOB's, leaving the .IFO and .BUP files alone, but for me, it's just easier to grab the VIDEO_TS and getting it all.]
There will still be a quality hit from the original MPEG-2 Transcode and compression, but it will be far superior to Xvid, or similar.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Jumpy video and audio on export

I have a .DV movie created in an old version of IMovie. The file was exported from iMovie using the highest quality setting available. I am trying to export this movie to a larger screen size .MOV. However when doing so, the video on the new file becomes jumpy and the audio stops and starts. The play buttons behave erratically. When I convert the original .DV to a .MOV leaving all of the size and quality parameters as they are, the export occurs with no problem.
Is what I'm trying to do just not possible? I would really like this file to play back bigger by default.

I can understand that, but I also exported the .DV to a .MOV, and then tried the export. Same problem. I assume the same answer, yes?

  • Jumpy video after Exporting Quicktime Movie from PS CS4 Extended

I am trying to produce a short training video for work.  I created my entire movie in iMovie '09, and decided that it desperately needed some arrows and text to clarify some of the more technical aspects.  I exported it as a Quicktime file from iMovie and imported into Ps CS4 extended.
After I finished the editing, I chose to export my video, again as a Quicktime movie.
The export completed, and when I went to review my movie, it was extremely jumpy.  Watching the time line on the bottom of the Quicktime screen, I noticed that it was jumping in multiple second intervals.  The audio portion seemed normal, but the video kept freezing and scrambling.
I attempted re-exporting the video with the Quicktime settings of Animation, and Frames Per Second set at current.
    No difference.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong????

    Marian -
Thank you for your response.  I am only an amateur video editor, and up until now, I hadn't bumped up against the limitations of iMovie too often.  You are definitely correct, it would FAR easier to do these effects in FCE, FCPro, AE, Premiere, etc., except for one thing . . . I don't own any of those programs!    (I've already ordered a copy of Final Cut Express, but it stinks to have to spend $200 to get $7 worth of personal functionality.)
I do, however, own the extended Ps CS4.  And, to paraphrase the guy on Lynda.com, "You already have it, and you know how to use it . . . It should work for you . . ."
This is the information on the file, it was exported this way automatically by iMovie (They don't give you much control over these functions.)
Unfortunately, I trashed my output from PS as well as the .psd in a fit of rage!  It wouldn't take me more than 30 minutes to recreate it . . .
Would it be worth attempting to export it using H.264 instead of the animation Codec?

  • Jumpy video when exporting (sharing) to Quicktime

    Hi all,
I'm doing a simple internet commercial for a conference in Chicago. I am having a new problem with imovie. When I try to make the video into a quicktime movie the transitions and frames are jumpy. Here's a clip
    http://timandalison.com/Transvision2007/Commercial2.html
It worked ok with my first commercial here:
    http://forthefields.com/Transvision2007.html
I don't know why it's acting funny. I've used the same settings and everything. I used expert settings in sharing instead of the auto because I wanted to deiterlace it. This setting has made it worse. The jumpy one is compressed automatically for cd-rom and is better than most of the attempts i've made today.
Is it possibly my computer is having a hard time rendering it? It's been acting slow lately on everything else.
    Any help is much abliged

i guess i figured it out.

  • Jumpy video through airplay

When I stream video through my AppleTV, as soon as the Airplay kicks on, the video and audio quality become jumpy. It basically sounds and looks like everyone has the hiccups. Any thoughts on how to fix this? I've replaced my HDMI cable but it still happens, especially when the AppleTV hasn't been used for a few days.

your not alone I use to do airplay with my Denon avr1913. I would play all the music videos that were on my phone.
now all I get is audio. this is the only reason I bought apple tv. this really dissappointing apple better do something or I want a refund.  I doubt they will respond to this. an they better not say it has to do with my internet speed either. everything still the same.

  • Laptop screen plays back jumpy video, CRT looks fine

    I have a strange problem:
When I play back video from FCP (6.0.6) in either the canvas or the viewer and the window is entirely on my laptop screen, it looks jumpy, sort of like if the playback frame rate was set to dynamic. If the window is even partially (like 10%) on the CRT, the playback is fine. The jumpiness goes away if I set the playback quality to Medium.
I have been editing with this setup for a year or so and only recently noticed this. I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, but FCP is still 6.0.6. Is this a Snow Leopard / FCP version problem? It seems odd that it would only exist on my laptop's LCD screen and not my CRT.
    System Details:
I have a 2.6 Ghz Macbook pro with 2gb of ram. The DVI out is connected to an old LaCie Electron Blue 22" CRT. I typically edit with both screens, usully putting the canvas on the laptop screen and the viewer on the CRT. My playback framerate is set to full and video quality set to high. My capture scratch drive is an OWC Mercury Elite Pro set up as a RAID 0 and connected via Firewire 800. My sequence setting is ProRes 422 1440x1080 and the footage was shot with a Canon XH A1. Some was captured as ProRes and some as HDV, but the problem happens with both kinds of footage.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    - Bruce

I suppose that makes sense. I do wonder, though, why it would have this weird behavior where it only does it if the entire window is on the laptop screen. If just a little sliver of it is on the CRT, then it's fine. Also, why would it prioritize the performance of the second display over its main display?
Is there any way to boost the graphics card performance? Would more RAM take some of the pressure off the graphics card, or are the tasks strictly separate?
