Just a heads up on verizon scam

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that there is yet another verizon scam going around. Just got a call from (800) 888 9617 saying I have won the verizon price or whatever said I won $123 off my bill,  then to log into vzw123.com. This is not real, someone just trying to rip people off.

I just received the same type of phishing scam call.  It was showing in the caller ID as 800-888-9620 and upon answer an automated recording indicated that Verizon was calling about a pending $123 refund check.  They indicated that I needed to visit vzw123.com and enter my account information to claim the check.  The recording played twice and the call disconnected.  Seems like there are a few variations of this scam floating around using a variety of spoofed caller id numbers (CSID) and a variety of websites addresses.

  • Consistent packet loss just a few hops into Verizon's network

I have had consistent packet loss just a few hops into Verizon's network for some time. I have tried the normal things like rebooting routers and releasing my ip address but none of that helps. Most routes do not have an issue, but there is one particular service in Verizon's network which I have issues with, and it happens to be the server that Verizon routes me through when I am gaming online.
The server is : G0-3-3-6.RCMDVA-LCR-22.verizon-gni.net (130.81.191.80) and I average around 50% packet loss each night. It is just the second hop into my route:
    1) My Router Internal IP
    2) L100.RCMDVA-VFTTP-16.verizon-gni.net (98.117.88.1) with a ping of 9 and 0 packet loss
    3) G0-3-3-6.RCMDVA-LCR-22.verizon-gni.net (130.81.191.80)  with a ping of 15 and 50-80% packet loss.
How can I get Verizon to stop routing me through this troublesome server? If I look at the route to goggle.com for example, I don't go through that server and there is no packet loss at all.

Since it's a congested link, you also should be aware that ICMP (what ping and traceroute use) become nearly useless for determining packet loss.  A router backplane assigns a grade to every packet that wants to cross from one network connection to another, and ICMP typically is assigned low grade/value.  So when a router is congested and needing to drop packets, ICMP is one of the first ones to get dropped.  Less than 1% of your TCP traffic may be having problems, but ICMP failure might be greater than 50%.  Find a traceroute program that can use TCP to do the traceroute for more accurate results.  I'm not a Windows guy, so I have no clue what programs you have which can do this.
On my Linux/Unix computer, I use tcptraceroute
On a Windows computer, you need to download and install tracetcp.

  • "74 verizon" scam alert

Beware! I had a call to my cell phone saying that I had won $74.00 and I needed to go to "74verizon.com" to claim it. The web address exists, and it looks just like Verizon -- it even has all the links to other parts of Verizon's website -- but the login screen is on 74verizon.com which is NOT Verizon. It's a scam site phishing for your login credentials.
The phone number that called was 800-922-5534, if it helps.

I got the same call today -  from the main Tech Support number programmed into my contacts: 800-922-0204.  I thought it was hard to spoof a phone number, so I went to the site (37verizon.com).  I saw all legitimate links to Verizon's website, which I thought may be easy to recreate.  I almost put in my credentials, but then I wondered why Verizon wouldn't just put something like this on their "verizonwireless.com" site.  That's when I thought I should check again.  There doesn't seem to be many search results for this scam yet.  Be careful! Don't submit your creds unless you're 110% sure it's legitimate!

  • I just renewed my plan with verizon and am just not happy

Cliff notes Been with fios for roughly five years dating back to the free 19 inch HD TV promotion After my first two year contract expired I called to renew and was given a even better price. Then the first bill comes and it's not even close to what we agreed on. Called and called because I was not going to accept being completely lied to. At this time period many, many people were here claiming the same thing happened (approx2 yrs ago). All was settled with a 40 dollar "valued customer discount" which lasted one year and dropped to a 20 dollar " valued customer discount". I was happy, didn't mind paying more and loved FIOS.Mind you it took many, many hourson the phone to resolve. Fast forward to about a month ago and being leary about calling in, being told one thing and getting charged another I went online. Was basically bullied into choosing a inferior package from extreme to prime, said I would not lose nfln and MLB network. All he kept asking me was if I had checked out yet, like he was in some hurry, over and over again which was odd. Having two young ones at home and money being tight I was trying to save a buck. Shame on me, I lost many off my favorite channels which I could probably live with however the internet speeds are painfully slow. I can hardly watch videos now it's so bad. Did the chat rep put a gun to my head? No, but being at work and him being rather pushy clouded my judgement on just waiting like I should have. So here I sit, a long time happy customer wearing FIOS underpants left holding the bag with sub par service that I really didn't want. The wife is fuming wanting to switch to xfinity as I tell her I will try and come to some common ground with the big red V. If there are any suggestions or help on what I can do it would be truly appreciated. Mike (certified Verizon kool aid drinker)

  • Verizon Scamming "New Phone" Buyers

A month ago I bought what i thought was a new iPhone 5. It was supposed to be new, and they told me it was brand new. But I immediately had problems with it. The phone has never been dropped, had a drop split on it, or been out of the case for that matter. So I took it in to my local Verizon store, and the representative said i had two options: either trade it in for a refurbished phone, or pay a $150 dollar deductible and get a new one. I said i refuse to trade my "new" phone for somebody's hand-me-down, and I'm not paying a cent for them screwing up and selling me a faulty phone FOR FULL PRICE!!! She basically said that I am **** out of luck. So I took it to the apple store to see if they can fix it, and they figured out the problem: THE PHONE WAS USED AND WAS MISSING HARDWARE INSIDE IT WITH BENT WIRES! I have that documented and that it would have never left the apple facility in that condition, it would have failed inspection. So I brought it back to the Verizon store, and after going back and forth with the manager, he agreed to send me a "certified pre-owned" one in the mail.... NO!!!! I just want the new phone I was "sold". He said he couldn't get me a new one because it wasn't in stock, the 5s was the only one in stock... So I said than give that to me, because you owe me a new phone! And he said he couldn't do that, but I could get another phone for full price I would have to pay. No, what you can't do is sell someone an aftermarket, faulty phone and claim its BRAND NEW!!! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD!!! And the worst part is my family has been loyal customers for years! All I wanted was to get a truly NEW phone. To get what I had originally paid for. And it would have all been OK. VERIZON IS SCAMMING YOU... DON'T EVER BUY A "NEW" PHONE FROM THEM... I will be filing a lawsuit in Arvada, Colorado's Small Slaims Court, and get 7NEWS Investigates to do a segment on the evening news, if this isn't resolved.

Was the store you purchased the device from a corporate store or a premium retailer? What does your receipt say you purchased?

  • $600+ Directory Assistance charges - Verizon scam?

Background: I got the Verizon service as an internet provider, but was forced to sign on for the landline service, because they came as a package. I haven't used a landline phone in 10 years and don't expect to, I don't own landline telephones.
Issue: In January, I've noticed that instead of getting charged $60 for my internet service, I was being charged $250 in November '13 and another $250 in December '13. I didn't notice before because my payments were set on autopay.
In January I called to terminate my account, as I was quite angry that Verizon was scamming me by all of a sudden raising my monthly payments from $60 to $250. During my conversation with a customer support agent, I was told that these were "Directory Assistance" calls. I told the agent to send me a full refund, she gave me some other phone number to call. I couldn't make the call for a few weeks, because they're 10 AM to 6 PM - surprisingly the hours when I work.
I had a day off today and called the "finance" department, or something like that, to request the refund, plus I got another bill for January which was for $160. Is Verizon just charging me random sums of money?
After I called, I got transferred 3 times, and my final agent told me that no refund is going to be issues, they're legit charges and I'll be getting a $30 refund and that a supervisor is going to call me back.
    Facts:
    - I DO NOT HAVE A LANDLINE PHONE IN MY APARTMENT, NEVER HAD ONE. MY MOBILE PHONE SERVICE IS NOT VERIZON.
Not to mention that a person would need to make thousands of Directory Assistance calls for them to cost $600.
Dear Verizon, I will fight this, I will contact consumer affairs, I will use social media to inform the public of your "Directory Assitance" scams.

If you have Verizon FIOS for your internet and they told you you had to have landline service in order to get internet they lied to you. I just dumped my landline service and kept my FIOS Internet with no problem. I got sick and tired of getting nickle and dimed to death with all the taxes and fees - seriously Verizon - $4.50/month to keep my number unlisted - yeah right.

  • Just a heads up - calendar/alarm conflict

If you add an entry to your calendar and set a reminder/alert for that entry, no alarms will go off while that alert is displayed.
I set myself an alert for 5:30 this morning, and also had my alarm set to go off at that time. The alert went off but I didn't hear my alarm until I woke up several hours later and closed the alert! A simple workaround would be to set your alarm one minute before the alert, but for those of you that like to hit the snooze button this could still cause problems.

  • MMS not working with O2 - Just a heads-up to any L...

    Thought I'd give a heads-up to any Lumia 800 users on O2 out there/here.
It has now become something of an official 'issue' in o2 tech support that sending and receiving mms messages is 'troubled' for lack of a better word on the lumia 800.
I myself can only receive mms messages but not send. Others may APPEAR to have mms working but will find that the occassional (maybe every other) mms sent to them will not get through.
O2 are apparently working on this issue now but thought I'd spread the word just in case there's anyone on here who either cant get mms to work, are having mms only work every now and again, or also for o2 users who may not even know about this yet.
    Pads.

In relation to Potatowned's comment, yeah mate I have the latest firmware and os. It's makes no difference, at least where O2 is concerned. Yeah the network settings app was fairly useless for me. O2 themselves also said that the diagnostic section won't help
They seem pretty confident on the phone (they could just be good liars ) That this is going to be resolved fairly soon, at their end rather than a software update.
It IS a bit depressing calling a technical support line just to hear some moron on the other end reading through a script of questions - such gems of course including : "Make sure the o in o2 is typed as a letter, and not the number zero'.
    Thanks tech support.

  • Just hooked up mifi with Verizon and cannot go online with my firefox

firefox is my home page and i just hooked up with a mifi with verizon

If you purchased the TV through them then rightfully so
This has to do with a defective device purchased through VZW. If it was purchased directly from HTC then yes of course file a complaint against HTC.
Mobile customers are in the mindset that if they purchase their device through the carrier it's the carrier's responsibility to handle defective devices.  VZW could have easily said to the OP that not our problem contact HTC and washed their hands of it.  Instead they decided to send another defective device to the OP.

  • Just a little upset w/ Verizon

I just want to shout out on a topic...I ordered the new Galaxy S5 on Monday and was told by customer service that everything was complete and that I would have the phone by Friday (this is after I paid for overnight shipping).  After coming home from work and realizing my phone was not here, I began calling Verizon.  After three hours of arguing back and forth, I was told that our original order had been cancelled on Monday.   So now I had to go through the entire process again to place order, confirm order and hopefully get a phone by tomorrow.
I logged into my Verizon account and tried to confirm order and received a "black screen" and then a message stating that I had no pending orders.
Tried calling the number on my email to confirm order only to find out that the confirmation number and order location number was not recognized by their computer system.
Tried calling customer service and can't get any assistance from them....I am NOW being told that my order has already been confirmed (same thing I was told on Monday) and that I will receive my phone tomorrow  (except, they don't ship this late at night--it's 9:30 PM here).  So how am I to get my new phone????
Been waiting a week....nearest Verizon store is out of stock.  This is SO frustrating!!!
I was a HUGE fan of Verizon until this week....love the phone service with this company compared to other wireless companies but their customer service recently sucks!!!

    FordFocus1,
Look no further help is here! I definitely understand how frustrating this has been for you and your girlfriend.
You mentioned you added insurance to the phone before going on your trip. Where was the insurance added. Please keep in mind that you are only able to add insurance within 30 days of the phone being purchased.
When was her phone originally purchased? If you were passed the 30 days we would not be able to add the insurance.

  • After 8 years I just wanted to say goodbye verizon

I'm off to T Mobile.  I don't see how we can make this work anymore.  I've tried and I've tried.  You just keep taking more and more and giving less and less.  And you make life so freaking complicated.  I talked to you.  Several times.  But you just wouldn't listen.  personally, I think you didn't believe me when I said I would leave and counted on my sticking around because of the pain factor of change.
Eventually the pain factor is just too much.  Oh make no mistake, I can afford you easily.  But you just don't give value for what I pay.
To the point... T Mobile is getting better.  Giving better service.  Cheaper.  Without all the >>removed<< games you guys play.  Their network is starting to get rave reviews in the press.  And I calculated it up...
GOING TO T MOBILE WILL SAVE ME OVER 1000 DOLLARS OVER 2 YEARS!   That is a a ridiculous amount of money.  An INSANE amount of money.
In a 2 year period you would cost me almost 3500 dollars!  For that kind of money you guys should be coming to my house, tucking me in bed and reading me a bed time story every night!  But you don't.  You are a phone.  That is all.  And honestly, I think hubris has gotten in your way.
So this is where it ends.  I'm getting a new Note 3, unlimited non-throttled 4G service with 2.5 gigs of hotspot for less than my current service not including the cost of a new phone with you guys.  Add in a new phone... and that's 150 a month!  That is half of a car payment!
So to all of the verizon customers out there... I recommend you rethink verizon  I did.
    >>Edited to comply with the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service<<

I agree with everything you said.
I've already gotten my bill amount.  Including taxes and phone (amortized over 2 years  although I pay full retail) it will be 106 per month.
My phone bill with verizon is 120.  I have the unlimited plan so tethering which I now need is another 20 per month.  That's 140.  And then I have to pay full retail for a phone which is 700/24=29.  So if I stay with Verizon that's 169/mo.
    That's a 63 dollar a month difference = 756.  756*2= over 1500 for 2 years.
I've already checked out the T Mobile coverage map and all of the places I go have at least good coverage and most are very good or exceptional.  So I should be fine there.  And honestly... T Mobile doesn't have coverage everywhere... but I'm not everywhere.  If I can't get 3 or 4 G coverage in the middle of no where Montana, that doesn't effect me because I don't live in Montana.
There is a way to go on the T Mobile web site and disable the authorization of third parties to put charges on your phone bill... so I can control the apps and other stuff.
I'm ok with having lowest speed in other countries as my verizon phone wouldn't even operate in other countries.
I am aware that others look at T Mobile as a buy out opportunity.  AT&T tried that a couple years ago.  It could happen.  But if it does then I will re-evaluate the landscape at that time.  T Mobile is doing well now... that doesn't mean it will be doing well in 3 years.
At this point I view verizon like the cable companies.  They were saying that cord-cutters were a small percentage of users and insignificant.  And then more users said to themselves "This just isn't worth it" and it became a significant percentage.  And the cable companies still kept telling themselves that "nothing is wrong".  It was like the emporer's new clothes.  Now cable company growth has stagnated and lots of people are cutting the cord.  I think the same thing is happening with verizon.  I know lots of people who are tired of the games and have said they are leaving.  I didn't hear that 4 years ago.

  • Footer starts just below header in Firefox and Opera

    Hi all,
I have created a page: http://www.colombiareiser.no/ and finally the page looks like I would like it to look in Internet Explorer. But...the page look totally different  in Opera and Firefox. In those browsers the footer (grey area) seems to start just below my header, thus "ignoring" my main content.
    Anybody have any clue?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Ivan

    Hi,
If I understood you proposed solution correct it didn't solve my problem. I think adding another </div> would make 1 too much on my page.
Looking further into this I have kind of identified the problem:
    1. My page consists of 2 sets of divs; 1 is floated to the left while the other is floated to the right.
    2. They are not filling all the space so there is like 10 px between them.
    3. The footer seems to sneak up between the 2 floated div sets even though they are wrapped with another div.
Anybody know how I can solve this?
    Best regards,
    Ivan
    http://www.colombiareiser.no
PS: My "unsexy" solution for this is to create a new div at the bottom of the page and then fill it with "*********************************" (and then maybe set colour to the same as the background). That keeps the footer in place.

  • Verizon Scam Sales

    Had just about enough.
Some time back, notified Verizon to keep their neighborhood sales people away from my door.
What do I see this evening? Two  Verizon FIOS hucksters.
Why don't I want them here?
About a year ago, they showed up here with a story that DSL was being dropped and we needed to get signed
up for FIOS. We thought it might be a good deal, and signed up.
Only come to find out when I called in to get some more info, the whole story was bull**bleep**.
DSL wasn't going anywhere. We didn't "need" FIOS. So I cancelled it, told them not to install anything.
That went real well. They  cameout anyway and laid the fiber in my yard. When I told them to get lost
and take the **bleep** fiber with them, they left the coil hanging at the interface box.
And what do I hear tonight? DSL is going away and we need to get hooked up on FIOS.
Hey Verizon reps. If your reading this, guaranteed the FCC is getting an ear-full as well.

Hate to say it but eventually those door-to-door salesmen will be right. See:
    http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Verizon-Pushing-Troublesome-DSL-Users-Toward-FiOS-118689
Articles like the above have been appearing for the last few years on many renowned technical sites. Areas where the copper is old and beat up are going to see DSL services no longer offered. Areas where FiOS is installed are going to see the DSL network struggle to provide bandwidth at night as seen in many threads throughout the Internet once FiOS shows up, and anyone who calls in reporting chronic DSL trouble are most likely going to be pushed to FiOS. Can't blame Verizon for doing so since copper's getting real expensive to maintain (plus it likes to get stolen!), on top of biting billions of dollars of investment being rejected by many. Any area not getting FiOS with chronic DSL troubles will most likely see a worse off wireless product.
Bearer of bad news, but if they eventually do force you to Fiber, see if they'll let you have their super secret package that is priced exactly the same as DSL but delivers more speed. If they can give you that, get it, but don't let them remove the copper connection from the pole to your home. That's still mandated to be there. Been waiting for years to get rid of my DSL yet FiOS has not shown up yet.
    ========
The first to bring me 1Gbps Fiber for $30/m wins!

  • Verizon Scams the Mentally Handicapped

I've had cell phone service with  Verizon for years.  I got a cell phone for my son who is mentally handicapped so that if he went outside to play I could call him, or if he got lost, use the GPS to find him.
Back in October '11 I found out that he had been downloading games so I went into the local Verizon store where I set up my account to get them to block this feature.  They didn't do it.  I thought I was paying off his charges and paid the balance off last month, only to get another bill this month well over the normal service charges.  Verizon customer service, in the person of Melissa 1275, basicly told me that they didn't care about the fact that they had not followed through on my request and were billing me anyway.  The local store is going to try to take care of this month's charges but have told me that neither they nor Verizon are going to reimurse me back to October when I wanted this to stop.
Verizon evidently bills its clients for downloads from other services and gets a fee.
They took advantage of a mentally handicapped child and billd me for it.
So when my contract is over I'm giving up Verizon.  If this is how they treat handicapped people and long-term customers I want no part of it.
There are enough other services out there, which are cheaper each month, to use.

I understand your frustration but one thing I have to point out, from your report the whole issue is how they handle the situation with you but I really do not see how they are scamming anyone because of their mental state of mind....  Your name is the one on the account and you would be the only user that they would come in contact with so they would not know anything about your son being mentally disable.
I mean no disrespect but I can guarantee that Verizon wasn't intentionally trying to take advantage or a mentally handicap user.
Also you do know that you could have blocked your son from being able to download any apps or music by logging in and going to https://nbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/accountholder/uc/UCServiceBlocks.action , there is a option to block a downloads for that account for free...

  • Just bought an IPhone4S at Verizon replacing the Droid phone I previously had.  When I go to hook up to ITunes to get all the apps from my iPhone 4 (an AT

My contract at Verizon was up so I decided to renew and replace my Droid with an IPhone 4S.  I had them transfer the contact information at the Verizon store from my currently active IPhone 4 (an AT&T account) to the new IPHone 4S - this they did and its fine.
Now I want to duplicate whats on my iPhone 4 to the new IPhone S - so I went to ITunes and backed up my Iphone 4.  When that was done I hooked up my new IPHone 4S to ITunes in order to restore the apps, photoos and all to the new IPhone 4S.
However ITUnes said the phone will not pair with iTunes??
    Whta must I do ?
