You connect the iPad to the computer and use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes to put them on the Mac's internal drive. They can't actually be run on a Mac.

The flag at the top refers to what keyboard set you're using. If you cross the pond, you'll find that the keyboard layout is slightly different, but in fact the only difference between your keyboard and the overseas counterpart is that keys have been painted differently. The keyboards are otherwise identical, and the computer itself has no idea what's painted on each key. So, you have to tell it.
The flag tells the computer which keyboard layout you'd like to use. In your case, the standard US layout.
If you plan to switch keyboard layouts often, then that menu will allow you to do so quickly. If switching keyboard layouts won't be a common activity (or used at all), you can disable the menu by going to the Apple Menu->System Preferences->International (top row). In the International pane, click on "Input Menu" and then deselect the checkbox at the bottom that reads "Show input menu in menu bar." The flag should disappear. -
I have a MBPro mid 2013 with 1 Thunderbolt port. Just bought a Mac monitor and want to daisy chain a PC monitor to it. Use a Mini DVI to VGA adapter from MBP to PC monitor. How do I daisy chain the 2 monitors?

if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro. -

It's the button (key) that is labelled Control.
Each of the modifier keys and similar keys has its own symbol; this makes listing command keys easier to do. The Command key is usually the only key which has its symbol printed on the key. If you open Keyboard Viewer (in the Input menu, the one which displays the flag in the main menu bar), you can see what symbol refers to which key. -
I just bought a new desktop and will be taking my old one to the apple store tomorrow to have the data transferred. Does the transfer include the transfer of programs or just data?
They will simply use Migration Assistant to transfer your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences. This is something you could do yourself. You would need a Firewire cable to connect between your old computer and your new one. Migration Assistant is installed in the Utilities folder of your new computer.

just bought a mac notebook and loaded photos in iphoto and cant open because it says locled out
Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that? -

You are right, Adobe does not support CS5 because it is no longer sold.
Simply download the trial version of CS5 from this Adobe web site and input your serial number.

I need to change the home folder name. I just bought this mac today and my cousin put his name in because he had to back up his phone while we were still at the store so he could get a new phone and now my brand new imac says his name in the home folder. This is very frustrating. I would not have let him put his name in there if I didn't think you could change it. Someone please help!
Delete his user account and create your own, using your name.

I just bought an iPhone 5, and tried to sync it to my iTunes account but when connected it says: “...cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later.” However when I try to get iTunes to update it says: “This version of iTunes (10.6.3) is the current version.” Can anyone help?

Be careful - there's a difference between update and upgrade. Your machine is saying there are no updates available, meaning no later versions of OS X 10.5 (Leopard). However, you can very likely upgrade - at least to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and possibly then to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
Updates are free, but upgrades cost a bit. That's the dirference. -
Just bought an ipod touch and it wont sync with itunes. Tried resetting sync history but doesnt work, plus when i try to access itunes preferences it freezes for ages and creates loads of distnoted.exe files?????

I just bought a macbookpro. And trying to sync my iCloud music to my iTunes. I've already "authorized" this computer to my iCloud account but It still won't play my music that I've previously purchased. I know this isn't a matter of having tI many devices on one account because I only have my phone and now this laptop on it. What do I do?

just bought my mac mini. loggin into my game center, and after accepting the user agreement, it then saves my options. After trying serveral times, my screen just shows my options are saving and does nothing past this point. even after waiting a very long time.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Or...
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem & the Startup right after that for clues. -

I have seen a web page for US residents, but not for overseas residents. does the discount only apply to US buyers?

Because iOS and Mac OS X software isn't cross-compatible. If you're going to the iTunes App Store and not the Mac App Store, none of your purchases on other devices will be listed there unless you put them onto the new computer.
