Try using VLC Media Player 2.0.6. EasyWMA 3.3.5  or Music Converter 1.5.1 should be able to convert them to .mp3.

  • I have just bought my first mac and have been told that i can get a free upgrade to lion but it seems that this is only an option in the us and canada, not the uk. is this true?

i have just bought my first mac and have been told in pc world that i can get a free upgrade to lion, but it would appear that this is only for those in the u.s. and canada. is this true? also from reading the discussions it seems that lion is not a good thing. i am already regretting my decision to go to a mac.

I have found that both Linux and Mac (unix) are capable of reading "deep" folders while win 32 will have issues, your it people are clearly wrong.  I run a network with both win/mac. And as long as the win servers/pc's that have shares are set to allow apple file sharing in their folder properties.   And the macs are set to allow smb there should absolutely no trouble with you accessing anything across the platforms, heck, from a Mac to a win pc on some occasions you don't even need to include a "domain" name to log on to, and you can create aliases and make your own shortcuts etc... So you don't have to manually connect each time you boot up etc... But that's all personal preferences I suppose.
All I can tell you is that, I do it on a daily basis managing a small business. So your answer is yes you can.

  • I just got my new mac, when i try to import music files or even import a CD, it says "Error, a file was specified instead of a folder". What do I do

I just got my new mac, when i try to import music files or even import a CD, it says "Error, a file was specified instead of a folder". What do I do, It is very frustrating i have all my music from my old PC and a bunch of CD's i cannot import.

I haven't encountered this error, but let's try to figure out a solution.
    CDs. Let's tackle this.
    First, read this:
    http://www.woopid.com/video/626/iTunes-Setup-Assistant
As soon as you insert a CD (assumng you have a drive), iTunes should immediately open and ask if you want to add this to your Library. Say "Yes." (You haven't set the quality levels yet, but we want to set up your library, first.)
Music. If you have individual tracks you want to import, keep iTunes open, and simply drop the tracks in the "Songs" part of the Library on the left side of the screen. The tracks should be added automatically.
If this isn't working for you, please describe the error -- or better yet, provide screenshots. I'm certain you will be able to set up your iTunes library pretty quickly.

  • I got a new computer and some of my music apparently wasn't backed up to the external hard drive.  I have some of the music that didn't save on an iphone. How do I move the music from the iPhone into my iTunes library on the computer?

I got a new computer and somehow have lost some of my more recently purchased and or imported music.  I have some of that music on an iphone and some on an ipad.  How do I get the music from those devices into my itunes library without losing everything else?

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • I have audio books as mp3 files.  They will not play on our Ipad.  Is there a conversion I need to do?

We have audio books that are converted to mp3 files. They will not play on our 2-year old Ipad. What can I do to make them compatible?
    Les

Hi - what I neglected to include in the question is that the book was uploaded on Google Drive.  It sounds like I will need to make the book a playlist and upload it.
    Thank you for the response.

  • Just bought a z1 and i have some problems

Hello, i have a z1 for 2 days now and my issues are:
My connection to internet is not stable at H+ all the time but is everytime at H, but then when i use play store or internet it goes to H+ like if the phone was doing that to save battery while not using internet, is that normal? because i want to have H+ all the time..
The phone gets really hot, i live in cordoba in the south of spain and actually we are at 40-43 deegres but the phone gets too hot and even with air con in my house is still very hot, it gets so hot that sometimes when i try to use the camera it wont let my showing me a message telling me that i have to wait for the phone to cool..I dont know if that might be a software problem or the actualisation with kitkat 4.4..
The other issue i have noticed is that when i am playing a game for like 5-10 min the screen seems to turn down the brightness and i havent got the automatic brightness turned on, it may be because of the phone getting too hot and doing that as a measure of security?.
Please help me, i come from a chinese phone that gave me a lot of problems and that is the reason i bought a Z1 and now i have these issues.  I just dont want to send it to repair for being the rest of the summer without phone so please if anyone has experienced these issues and now a solution or tell me that what i am experiencing is a normal thing i would be very happy.  The thing i am more concerned about is the brigtness going down when playing, that really anoyes me because i have automatic brigtness turned off and the brigt to max.
    Thank a lot in advance

    1. that's a network coverage issue, not your phone
    2. that's normal if you are running heavy apps and games and/or if you are constantly syncing multiple accounts
    3. I've seen this issue with other Xperias, it seems that that is indeed the reason

  • I just bought a new mac and want to transfer my old files. I haven't had any luck with migration. any ideas?

I have not been able to recover any of my files, primarily my music. I tried using migration and I still havent been able to find it. I used an external hard drive to back up using TimeMachine. any ideas would be great

There are a lot of unknowns here.
Is the old computer a Mac?
Did you manage your music through iTunes?
If the old machine was a Mac and you use iTunes you should be able to look on the old external drive for a folder called Music. Inside is a folder called iTunes. Copy that folder to the same location on the new computer and your music should be restored. You may have to reauthorize the machine for the music to show up.
You may also just have to open iTunes on the new machine and drag that old iTunes folder onto the music list in the new iTunes and the files may start importing.
A good place to start is http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527

  • I moved my iphone from my parents account to another account on a different computer and i still have some of the music that i dont want from the other account, how can i get it off of my phone without deleting it from the other itunes account?

    Please Help

What type of "account" are you referring to?  An iCloud account doesn't contain music, an iTunes account does.

  • Nikon D5500 generates RAW files as .NEF which Lightroom 5 won't read. How can I convert these on a Mac with Yosemite?

I have tried the Adobe DNG converter (v8.7.1.311) but when I choose the folder where the photos are, it shows an error reading "The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files". I cannot find any other software for Mac which claims to be able to do this. Can anyone help?

Many thanks for that. I've never shot RAW before and am new to DSLRs generally so don't know the relative difference between formats. If I have to convert RAW  to TIFF to be able to use Lightroom, will it have been worth me shooting in RAW at all, or will I do just as well staying with the highest quality of JPEG I can get from the camera? My camera is 24.2M megapixels

  • Just bought my first Mac. I have 1000s of photos on my PC, well organized into folders independent of any organizing software.  I want to do the same on the Mac (i.e., ignore iPhoto) and use basic photo editor. Any suggestions?

Just bought my first Mac.  Have 1000s of photos well organized in files I created in the Pictures folder on my Windows PC.  I plan to copy everything to the Mac and maintain my "independent" collection rather than dump everything into the iPhoto library. Any suggestions for a basic photo editor similar to MS Photo Gallery that I can use on the Mac?

Finally, yesterday I bought a WD My Book for Mac 3TB external HD.
First thing to do is repartition the drive into 1 new partition and reformat as OS X Extended (journaled).  Some WD drives come with software that is not compatible with 10.9 and should not be used. Then follow r4kaufmann87's suggestions.

  • I have just bought the new mac and can't set it up as my main computer for iTunes

I have just bought the new mac and have synced it with my ipod but the ipod is not the primary computoer for itunes.
My old computer is the primary one
I have synced my ipad but the apps did not transfer to my mac
    any help would be appreciated
    thx

You have me confused as to where the apps really are. You mention iPod and mention that the iPod isn't your primary computer. Obviously, it can't be - its an iPod. I'm not trying to be a jerk - I just dont understand what that means.
The you say that the old computer is the primary computer for iTunes. That makes more sense. Anyway, you could have transferred the iTunes library from the old computer to the new Mac, but I assume that you did not realize that.
So ... If the apps are on your iPad - but did not transfer to iTunes when you synced the iPad with the new Mac - transfer Purchases. Connect the iPad to the Mac, launch iTunes, right click on the iPad name on the left and select Transfer Purchases. That will put the apps in iTunes on the Mac.
Movies cannot be downloaded again for free because Apple does not have an agreement with the movie studios to allow for that. At least that is how I understand the way that works.

If both have Firewire ports then you can accomplish your goal by using Target Disk Mode. If this is not possible then you can do using an external drive or if you have a local network connect both to your network and use filesharing between the two computers.
