If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.

Go to Settings/General/Reset - Erase all content and settings. the connecto to iTunes and restore as a New phone. Do not restore any backup. If the problem persists you have a hardware problem. Take it to Apple for exchange.
This assumes that the phone is not hacked or jailbroken. If it is you will have to go elsewhere on the internet for help. -

I have had an issue that I have been dealing with for about a year that sounds just like this. I found they were due to poor electrical connections. Check and clean all the electrical connection contacts for the battery to the phone, and the phone to the cord. Because I had plugged and unplugged the phone so much, the hole for the power cord was very dirty and had become quite worn and was bigger than it should have been. I first did like you and got a new cord, this helped but I still had issues. So because I was cheap and did not want to send the phone out for repair to replace the worn parts, or get a new phone, I spent some time and rigged it up nicely. After cleaning the contacts on the phone, I started working on the cord to tighten it up. So with the charger unplugged from the wall and the phone, I very carefully pried up on the contacts that plug into the phone so they would stick out a little more. This helped, but not good enough. I then tried to tighten up the worn hole. At first, I used a small piece of trimmed electric tape that made the plug thicker, this worked, but the tape kept coming off. When I finely got tired of that, I cleaned the tape off of it and started building up several thin layers of superglue making sure not to get it on the contacts. After I was sure the glue was fully dry! I plugged the cord in the worn out hole and it fit, and worked like new. That was almost a year ago. I have had to re-apply glue once after it had wore down some. I also found that a desk charger where the phone stands up works pretty good. It still has and issue from time to time. I just have to wiggle it a bit and I can get it to work.

thanksIf your external drive has the right ports, you should be able to plug it up to your Mac and copy over your photos and wav files. You'll probably (I don't know this for sure as it's been a long, long time since I've dealt with wav files) need to convert the wav files to MP3 or some other format (but I would try opening them directly from iTunes, first - wait a second... yes, iTunes will open wav files).
There are only a fixed number of ways that Windows drive can be formatted and a Mac can read (though not necessarily write) them all. So you should have no trouble with that.

I turned on my new phone and the message tells me "Your iphone could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reached. Try connecting your iphone to itunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes."

Ask the Verizon store to exchange your iPhone for a different iPhone 4.

Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware. -
Just got a new iphone 5. When I plug in the ear buds, the audio still comes out of the phone itself. How do I transfer the audio to the ear buds?
Make sure it's plugged in all the way, because it clicks when it's no all the way In and many users get confused. If not try turning it.

Just got a new iPhone 6, selling my 5 to Amazon. Trying to follow Apple instructions to erase content before sending but 5 will not connect to iCloud so I can't proceed - when promoted to enter password I keep getting "Verification failed. every once in a while my iPhone 5 fails to recognize my Apple ID. I don't have to go all the way to Restore to Factory Settings, I just have to turn off the phone. (Hold down top button until screen asks to slide if you want to turn it off.) Give it a few seconds, turn it on again.
