Just installed OS X 10.4 tiger
Well good news i finaly got tiger the cd version. I installed xpostfacto4 in OS 9.2.2 opened the OF options and clicked use old NDVR"S i think its called. but any way i clicked install and it installed files and restarted and it started the installer it installed great but only with the orignal 24x cd rom,
With the pineer DVR-110D the installer would just stall out but not lock up. so any way tiger is installed now . I turned it off and reinstalled the pioneer DVR-110D and powered back up and i ran software updater and updated everything i needed and even the combanation 10.4.3 update. All whent fine here and it restarted fine booted back into 10.4.3 all was great till i put in a cd. It didnt mount so i tryed a dvd the same result so i opened system profiler and it seen the pioneer DVR-110D so i clicked disk burning and system profiler locked up.
So i did the 3 finger salute and booted to OS 9.2.2 and left the Mac there running wile i went to work and came back i booted into tiger to see if i can find out why it wasnt mounting any cd's or dvd's so i put a cd in the drive and it mounted so i tested a dvd and it to mounted. I opened up system profiler and clicked disk burnning and it came up this time.
I dont know what happened but it is working now so im not going to ask questions cause it is working without a hitch. Tiger is installed on the Mac in my sig and is running way better than i would thought
I gave up trying and nuked 10.4 off my system. went back to 10.2.8 and everything is running great i can mount cd's and dvd's any time i want, i dont have to reboot with a cd in the drive just to use me drive only for about 20 minutes before it becomes inop again like in tiger and my internal screen isnt going blank and freezing the system like in tiger
i think most of my problem is that my Pioneer DVR-110D isnt apple branded and dont have the apple firmware. the only thing i can boot from and install is the OS 9.2.1 install cd. i cant even boot the 10.2 jag install cd 1 only way i can do that is be holding command-option-p-r or o-f before i turn it on and let up as soon as the screen pops up. Then it will boot the jag install cd but it will lock up during when it is copying the files during the install.
The same goes for tiger hek tiger wont even start to copy files it gets to where it say's configuring files and have set there for an hour and nothing. I guess i should have bought the one from OWC insted of saving money. the only way i can boot and install either if i take out the pioneer drive and put the orignal 24x apple that came with the AIO
This is the last time i will try to install a non supported OS on my Beige G3. Apple can keep there panther and tiger that dont support the Beige G3 cause they are greedy and want people to buy the $2500+ new Mac im not going to fall for that.
OS 9.2.2 and 10.2.8 is all im going to do cause 10.2.8 supports my system and have no problems with 10.2.8
And what is the since of buying a new ppc Mac to only get shafted again when the intel Mac's come out for one i cant afford that kind of money and 2 i wont buy a mini cause i think they are juunk cause of the slot loading optical drive

Just installed tiger, can't shutdown
Hi I just installed Tiger on my Emac. It works great. Just that when I initiate shut down, screen stays on. everything quits o.k. after finder quits all I have is the desktop picture, and the computer stays on.
I am able to shutdown by pressing power button and since all apps closed o.k. there is no data loss. I do not have Classic running when this happens. I have restarted from Tiger disk and run "verify" and "repair" disk permissions.
Any other ideas what is going on?
thanksAlso, I would try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption.
Repairing the hard drive is different then Repairing Permissions.
Here's a no shutdown tip sheet that covers what macjack helpfully provided in more detail;
This is for a Mac that won't shut down. Launch Activity Monitor (or Process Viewer if you're running a pre-Panther OSX) and see if there are any active applications besides Activity Monitor ( items with icons next to the name), select them, and click Quit Process.
If an app won't quit by clicking Quit, click Force Quit. Then try shutting down again.
If that does'nt work start killing off system-managed programs ( items without icons ) . Be sure to quit only the programs your user account is running; don't quit anything identified as "root" or "nobody" in the User column- and whatever you do, don't quit any of the following : loginwindow, Window Server, ATSServer, or SystemUIServer, which make up the foundation of Mac OS.
Quit one process at a time, and then shut down after each kill until you find success!
I wish you luck!
p.s.If you install two of a single user licensed third-party application on different computers which are networked, this symptom may occur. If that is the case, a solution is to perform "Erase and Install" for both computers.

Just installed Tiger and having problems
I just installed 10.4.3 with an Archive and Install. Since then I have had a host of problems and tried a variety of fixes. Some have worked yet in general the machine freezes or slows down to an incredibly slow pace. And then I have to restart.
What I have done:
Initial Archive and Install
* Office 2004 products not working, restart cpu, get blue screen
* Start up in Safe mode and get rid of MIcrosoft Office Database Daemon in Start-up Items
* Computer restarts but still sluggish have to Force Quit
Other problems:
Printing to Epson Printer
* Get a message "the printer "(null)" could not be found in your list of printers.
I don't have a printer "(null)"
FYI - I am printing via Airport and have added the printer to the list and picked the driver.
I switched to Mail and ical because of the Entourage problems.
* Mail seems slow and when I am loading a simple no attachment message, I get a spinning wheel.
* Mail Help window has disappeared.
Safari/Firefox
* Slower loading than 10.3.9. Spinning Wheel.
What I have tried:
* Fixed permissions
* Booted from the Tiger disk and repaired the disk. No repairs were done.
Each of these steps solved the problems immediately but as soon as I start multitasking between mail, Office 2004, Safari everything is slow and often ends up Force Quitting at least on program.
What would you do next?
1. Should I reinstall 10.4.3 from the disk with a Basic install? And then upgrade to 10.4.6 to see if that will fix my problems?
2. Or should I do an Erase and Install? (which I am trying to avoid?)
The majority my work is done in email and Office products. Thanks in advance for any help or advice that will get me out of this quandary.
Powerbook G4 17" Mac OS X (10.4.3)Welcome to Apple Discussions!
First see if upgrading Office to the latest release fixes issues. If not, verify that Spotlight has finished indexing by seeing if opening the Spotlight menu reveals that it is indexing or not. If it isn't finished indexing, wait for it to finish.
If that does not solve issues, see this article on fixing font issues. Many have had trouble with whose fonts aren't working right:

Just Installed Tiger , what happens to Panther ?
I have just installed 10.4 and updated , what happens to Panther 10.3.9 , do I have to delete or trash it somehow to save hardrive space or does it just stay on the computer ?
True; however, its best to wait a few days prior to trashing the old system folder. The reason why that old system folder is there is in case you need anything out of it or if the new OS fails, so you have the old system folder to fall back on.

Installed apps from Macbook Pro Tiger disk to a Powerbook G4
I bought a used powerbook G4 that came with Tiger installed, but no tiger disk included in the sale (so i'll have to buy my own copy of it if i want to reinstall anything). Everything on the machine worked perfect... until one day.... okay here's the dumb thing i did: My friend has a new Macbook Pro (with Intel) and i hoped i could install programs from his Tiger disk that i didn't have on my computer (like Garage Band). So i put in his Tiger disk that came with his Macbook Pro (even though someone had advised me that it wouldn't work on a G4!) and in it i found a package of optional applications. I couldn't find and select Garage Band separately on the disk so i decided to just install all optional apps from that package. I figured my computer wouldn't let me even start all this if the Tiger disk was incompatible with my G4. Well, it did proceed along and I watched as it installed a bunch of standard programs i already had on my computer. But oh well i figured it wouldn't hurt anything to reinstall apps like that. Then, I just couldn't find a way to list and select individual programs to install, so i just gave up on the whole idea of getting my friend's Garage Band.
The next day some of my apps were acting funny. Had problems with Mail, Safari and Itunes. Fortunately, doing an update online fixed mail and safari. But itunes continues to not act right and it's always crashing and i have to force quit. Also my netzero software has become corrupted 2 times since the messing with the Macbook Pro tiger disk, and i've had to reinstall the ISP software. If i buy my own Tiger disk for G4 then i can reinstall itunes completely and hopefully that would solve it's problems. But i'm worried that when i messed with the Intel tiger disk i may have put some code on my hard disk that's harmful and useless to a G4 and could cause further problems down the road.
So my question is: Has anyone heard of this happening before and what would be the best thing for me to do? And i hope that if i must reinstall the whole OSX tiger, that i can use the "archive and install" mode so i won't lose any 3rd party software on my powerbook.
Thankyou for reading.
powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7) 10.4.6 installed then updated to 10.4.7I would not advise an Archive and Install because it will preserve components of the old system such as your users folder (unless you opt not to do that) which may contain items that are now not compatible. Archive and Install also keeps applications that now are incompatible.
I would recommend the following:
1. Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button, then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now proceed with OS X installation. -
I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and upgraded the memory and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program. I can see the hard drive in the disk utilities window however it wont let me do anything.
It is a seagate 1TB SATA II drive however it is displaying it as a 7.3 TB.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
I have tried to erase and partition and get the same error message each time, 'Input/Output error'.
I have tried starting the thing with the install disk which is Mac OS X (Tiger?) which came with the computer. No good.
Anyone?Thats correct. I can see it in the list however when I attempt to erase it or partition it it's like it's not being found or recognised and it throws up the input/output error message. I am pretty sure that the sensor it attached correctly and it is a SATA drive. I can see all the infor regarding the drive when disk utility is open and it all looks good but I cant access it or do anything with it. It's taunting me!
The install disk is in the drive and the install program runs right up to the point where you have to select the location for the install and there is just nothing in the box where you have to select the hard drive icon.
I have my suspiscions about the drive but any help would be appreciated. -
I just upgraded my older G5 from tiger to leopard and it is now at 10.5.8, I was unaware that the new system did not support the classic envoirnment and cannot access my 6.0 version of Photoshop, which I use often...how do I get P.S. up and going again?
Niel...
I installed Leopard 10.5.6 and then it upgraded to 10.5.8, when I installed it I had the old info saved to a "previous systems" folder, where most of my artwork, etc. were saved, I have a one terabyte Lacie backup that unfortunately did not work as it was intended...it saved the new info and not the old. I did look into the system preferences folder and found the classic file, of course it wouldn't launch...but I have the old G 5 startup discs and will try to do it as you stated. I will try also to move it out of the previous folders file to my hard drive and see how that works.
thank you for your time and help,

How do I source install media to upgrade from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5
My aim is to upgrade my macbook to snow leopard 10.6 from Tiger 10.4. I bought the media for 10.6 but didn't realise that my macbook should be at a minimum of OS X 10.5 to be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Does anyone know if 10.5 upgrade media is still available?
My Macbook has a 1.81Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 1GB Ram, is that enough for Snow Leopard? Anyone else in this situation?
Any help and advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.Hi hdereland, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Does anyone know if 10.5 upgrade media is still available?
You have to call Apple to see if they still have it available, the Stores no longer have it.
My aim is to upgrade my macbook to snow leopard 10.6 from Tiger 10.4.
Many just install it anyway from 10.4 -
I have just installed Tger, Safari doesn't work
I have just installed Tiger and did software upgrades to get to 10.4.6. Now Safari doesn't open, It gives the warning box "You cannot open the application Safari, because it may be damaged or incoplete."
Now what do I do? There is no file on Downloads to reinstall the app....the Tiger installer will not allow me to re-install anything.
Helpred53215,
1. How did you install Tiger?
2. Have you repaired your startup disk?
3. What version of Safari is installed?
4. Tiger has a Custom Install feature, have you tried that?

just installed airport extreme and all iphones are on and good but not my laptop???????? used the laptop to install the wifi then deleted it from my laptop as soon as i had connection on my phones. plese help!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to Apple Discussions, RipapArt!
Any ideas why this has suddenly happened...
Possibly a corrupted file. If you have not already done so, you might considered booting you computer from the Tiger Install disk, holding down the "c" key. Select your language and then from the Utilities menu, select Disk Utility.
In the left pane of Disk Utility, click on your hard disk. In the right pane, click the First Aid tab and then near the bottom click Repair Disk. If any errors are found, it will try to repair them. Re-run repair disk until it reports zero errors. Then click Repair Permissions. Afterwards, reboot the computer normally. Launch Disk Utility from the Utilities folder and Repair Permissions.
Launch a browser to see if you can get online. If the problem persists, launch System Preferences and then Network. Click Assist me and use the Assistant to create a new location and follow the prompts.

Installing OS 9 and jaguar on Seagate hard drive I've just installed
I have just installed a seagate 120Gb ATA hard drive. I've configured it as 'slave' and initialised it. I want to install OS 9 on it and then jaguar. I have tiger on my master drive. Everytime I try to restart my computer on the slave using the OS 9.04 software install disc that originally came with my computer it refuses to load. I aim to install the OS 9.04 and use the updater I have on disc to update it to 9.1 and then install jaguar.
I recently updated the firmware when I installed a processer upgrade. Is this preventing the disc from installing 9.04? Or is there something else I should be doing?Hi Alison,
Coming back to you about your queries:
So if I install OS 9.1 on the same drive as OS 10.2 I
don't need to partition?
No, you don't need to partition.
Or do I? If so, how big should I make each
partition?
If you still want to partition, then the relative sizes of the partitions depend on the total drive space available plus what you actually want to put on them. If you don't have to partition, I wouldn't, as it tends to lock away drive space (you can't save files across the drive volumes).
I have tiger on the other drive so that's not a
problem.
Yes, and you can still set up Clasic to boot up off the OS 9 that you will have installed in your other drive.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!

I just installed Lion on my mac and now Safari will not open. Keep getting this message: Safari quit unexpectedly, it gives me an optionto reopen or just click ok. I click reopen and it gives me the same message, with a long report of information. Ran disk permissions repair and still does the same. I can't even figure out how to copy the report into this question. Please help!

I just installed a second, larger hard drive. Can I copy all of the files?
I have a G5 Tower with an 80GB Seagate hard drive. I just installed a 160GB Seagate in the second bay. It seems to be connected. I partitioned it. Can I now simply copy everything that was on the old hard drive onto the new one? Do I then tell the computer to boot from the new larger hard drive, and it will boot and operate automatically from the new hard drive, as if I was still using the old hard drive? Will everything work simply by copying (dragging) all of the files from the old drive to the new one?
Hi James_ Nindel;
I answered your other post.
Double posting the same problem is a good way to confuse everyone.

I just installed iTunes on my new laptop. When I click on the desktop icon I receive a pop up that says "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". I have no idea what this means or what to do about it. I can't even find a file on my computer like the one referred to in the pop up. I am currently considering keeping my old laptop if it is the only way for me to continue to access iTunes. What should I do to fix this?
What version of iTunes are you using? An .itl file is something that Windows uses, or very old versions of iTunes on Mac. The library file on Macs is now .xml and has been since late iTunes 4.
Is iTunes running ok without any problems after you OK that message? If it is, then you may be able to ignore it if you can't account for why you're getting it. But make sure you take backups in case something happens in the future. -
I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect", which is Windows lingo for "missing package dependencies". All the computers at my company with 2010 loaded seem to do OK. When I do a Dependencies Walk I get missing Visual C debug dll's missing plus IEshims and wer which both have a whole tree of dependencies missing on my machine. The Windows install is the same "Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 3" on my PC and the working PC's. So I'm thinking I have to uninstall 2011 and go back to 2010. Is this correct? Those VC debug dll's were installed on the machines with 2010 in them but were not installed in mine.
I've heard the advice to recompile the dll with debug turned off but I don't have access to the source code.
Thanks in advance.u87 wrote:
Thanks for the reply. This at least tells me that going back to LV2010 is not likely to solve the problem. The missing dll's are:
MFC90D.dll
MSVCR90D.dll
IESHMS.dll
WER.dll
And, once again, IESHMS and WER have other dependencies. So perhaps i need to install the Visual C++ development environment.
IESHIMS.dll is an Internet Explorer DLL that gets usually delay loaded by shdocvw.dll. As delay load it can not cause DLL load errors but only runtime errors. Maybe your DLL has it as direct dependency but that is unlikely since it does not have a documented interface.
WER.dll is Windows error reporting for Vista/Win7.
MFC90D.dll is the Microsoft Foundation classes and MSVCR90D.dll is the MS C runtime library, both as debug variant.
So all the DLLs you mention are actually MS DLLs! You haven't identified the DLL that you try to access in LabVIEW that causes these error messages. IESHIMS and WER are usually delay loaded by any component that needs it and should not likely be used by non MS code.
What is the DLL you try to load into LabVIEW and by whom? Get the provider of that DLL to provide you a non Debug build of the DLL. Installing Visual C on all the machines just to make the DLL load is not a solution, besides that it is likely not legal since I doubt you have that many licenses.
