Just tried updating itunes and now will not run: apple mobile device failed to start
I was prompted to update iTunes on my Windows 7 PC. Tried to do so but now iTunes refuses to run. An error message continually appears saying that the Apple Mobile Device fialed to startr. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling without success. I would be grateful for advice! I have not had any iTunes issues on my PC before this "upgrade".

I did as Apple suggested and went into my services page and stopped the Apple Mobile Device service. Once it stopped I started it again. I then went through the downloading of iTunes process again, and I got the same error. I have McAfee and Webroot Security, and I am operating on Windows 7. What should I do?
So many people are having this problem! Doehunter's instructions here worked for me! Hope this helps. https://discussions.apple.com/message/23824640#23824640

Tried to update ITunes, but keep getting error: Service "Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
So how do I get my ITunes back?Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Hello, Edward.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I think the best option would be to completely uninstall all components of iTunes in the order specified of the article below. Once this is done attempt to install iTunes again.

When I was trying to install the update to itunes I would get the following message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. I could "Abort" "Retry" or "Ignore" I tried all of them starting with retry first. Nothing worked. I then uninstalled Itunes and tried to reinstall and received the same message. Not sure how to take care of it so that I can use Itunes again.

Can you help with error message on installing itunes on Windows XP: error message MSVCR80.dll not found. Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Error 7 Windows error 126.
Deleting itunes and reinstalling does not fix it.Solving the iTunes Installation Problems in Windows
1. Apple has posted their solution here: iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows- Unable to install or open - MSVCR80 issue.
2. If the Apple article does not fully resolve the problem for you, then try Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - MSVCR80. -
During the installation of Itunes I get the following error: Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privledges to start system service. I then have three buttons abort, retry and ignore. I have hit each button once and got no good results.
Chaps and chapesses,
I too was having the same problem when I tried to update and then unfortunately uninstall and re-install itunes. But, like Nige above me says, you need to uninstall all your Apple software and then re-install itunes.
Have a look at the response given to this forum post:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5819470?tstart=0
I did exactly as the turingtest2 said:
I removed all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Then I restarted my computer, and the install of itunes worked like a dream. None of this ignore, abort, cancel nonsense.
Hopefully all your respective versions of itunes will work soon. Cheers Nigel280
