Just Updated to Firefox 26.0...Hanging Worse Than Ever.

I just updated to FireFox 26.0 a few hours ago, and now when I visit a site like Wonkette.com, the browser hangs are worse than ever before...and they were bad before. My browser is hanging (becomes completely unresponsive) minutes at a time before it either loads the page, or tries to load it and I get a script error (which takes more minutes to pop up while the browser's unresponsive) before it loads.
God help you if you go anywhere with an IntenseDatabase commenting system or any kind of embedded video player. I have on no add-ons or plug-ins, so it is not that (and they are all up-to-date, anyway, but that's irrelevant).
No, this is not something solved by going into Safe Mode - the seeming catch-all cure that never works, either - so don't even offer that up as a solution. Thanks.

Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>

*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.

  • Lost server connection hang worse than ever

    I thought 10.5 was supposed to address the problem of a Mac hanging if a server disappears before being unmounted? I installed Leopard on my G5; now, if I accidentally disconnect a mounted server (e.g., my iMac goes to sleep or my PowerBook is disconnected), the G5 becomes completely unusable. Under 10.4, I had a good chance of getting it back after a minute or two; under 10.5, it's gone--I have to restart with the power button.
    What could be going on that this is happening?

  • Just updated to firefox 3.6.8 and now my laptop's hard drive failed after subsequent firefox crashes.

    I just updated to firefox 3.6.8 this morning after getting prompted to update as I started firefox. The firefox update successfully installed page said that I should update to the latest adobe flashplayer, so I did that as well, although that installation failed for whatever reason. I figured that I would update it later. I started watching live streaming videos on a website, and it was working for awhile, but firefox started to not respond. I tried opening up task manager, but even that started to lag and took minutes to open. The problem seemed resolved for awhile, but firefox started to not respond off and on, task manager stopped responding completely, explorer crashed, and my computer blue screened. It wouldn't even get off the blue screen after minutes of waiting, so I shut my laptop down manually. I'm positive that this couldn't have been a virus, since I only visited my usual websites, and I have both adblock plus and noscript installed. As for my laptop now, it won't boot to windows vista. I tried the hard drive test and failed. Now my laptop isn't even able to turn off no matter how long I hold down the power button. It's not an old laptop, so I doubt that it was just time for it to die.
    I have always been a fan of firefox, but this is just horrible. I don't know if it was firefox's fault but it sure seems like it...
    I'm currently on my older laptop, since my other one is obviously dead now. My broken one had vista installed and again, firefox 3.6.8 version.

    I have the same problem. I have never had a problem with Firefox before, and use it as my main browser. However recently, after updating to 3.6.8, its been crashing all the time. Up to 20 times an hour. Usually it occurs when I click a link from a Google search, or in Yahoo. Even if I send in a crash report and restart Firefox, it crashes as soon as the same page is brought back up, or the same link is clicked. I have also had it crash when completely idle. Its very frustrating as it is my favorite browser. I've resorted to using Google Chrome for the time being.

  • Just updated to Firefox 23... now I cannot see.......

    Hi .... I just updated to Firefox 23 on my black macbook running 10.6.8 Snow leopard...... and now when I open the Firefox preferences window I cannot see the very bottom part of the window....and there is no green dot in upper left corner to enlarge the window to possibly see the bottom portion with last setting options...only the red dot to close window or yellow to hide in dock is present...where the green dot to expand window is it's just a blank un-colored dot??.....the window shows only about 1/8 or 1/4 or less of for instance under privacy tab the "location" settings at bottom of window....same thing with other setting tabs ...the window does show the complete purple question mark in left lower corner, but not the complete last preference options at the very bottom... why is this I cannot expand the window to see everything???? !
    I hope someone can help please!!!!......thanks, Steve
    black macbook SL 10.6.8

    Hi, thanks to both of you for reply and attempted help, I tried both suggestions as good as I could a few times but no luck fixing issue.... ,also I was told from another person and I did not know that the green expand button for pref window in v23 FF was not supposed to be there and to work as usual to expand the window....is this true??? ...... maybe yes because I tried moving the window around screen and does not move up and around so that would not fix prob either.....I've tried starting in safe mode and removed plist and trashed it as you said and did what what both you said to try above a few times and no luck, still the same.......
    '''Maybe I should trash Firefox 23 and all the other older FF apps still on my HD then do a clean install?.... (but leave the apps in trash until I get this resolved??) I noticed when I first tried to install v23 FF last night (I updated from 3.6.? or something...I have not used FF in a long time as you can see!) it downloaded FF v22 first.... then it auto updated to v23???? weird it did that...is it normal?? ....then I dumped the v22 into my trash but did not empty it yet.....I'm still a Mac dummy still after 10+ yrs using them unfortunately....so complex answers kind of go over my head and also reading complex web links do too.... so all suggestions should be written for a Mac dummy like me....hopefully some more simple step by step instructions would be appreciated if possible....
    I have quite a few brain farts at my semi-advanced age....to much screwing around during the 60's-early 70's if you know what I mean :-D had a good time living in So. Cal growing up.... but my two or three brain cells that are left are a bit of grey matter now!!! try to forgive my slow and simple mind.....
    here's a screen shot of what problem looks like

  • I just updated my Firefox browser to Firefox 8. I am a college student and practice with HTML and CSS for class assignments. The fonts in all my html documents are being overwritten online by your script typeface. How do I resolve this issue?

    I just updated my Firefox browser to Firefox 8. I am a college student and practice with HTML and CSS for class assignments. The fonts in all my html documents are being overwritten online by your script typeface. I did not have this issue in the older version. I use an iMAC running OS10.6.8. How do I resolve this issue?

    Starting with this, you have errors in your CSS code.
    body {
      margin-top: 0px;
      margin-right: 0px;
      margin-bottom: 0px;
      margin-left: 0px;
      color: 151515;
      font-family: "Gill Sans", "Gill Sans MT", "Myriad Pro", "DejaVu Sans Condensed", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
      background-color: EFF5F8;
    body {
      margin:0;

  • I just updated my Firefox version to 3.6, but I can't find any detials in My Bookmarks now? Where are they?

    I just updated my Firefox version to 3.6, but I can't find any detials in My Bookmarks now? They are not in the Favorites folder which is in the local drive either.

    1. The version of Firefox that you posted here with looks like Firefox 2.0, based on the UserAgent string this forum read from the browser being used. Is that what you updated from? <br />
    ''See this to fix your UserAgent string - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Websites+or+add-ons+incorrectly+report+incompatible+browser ''
    2. If you ever used a Firefox 3.0+ version in the last three years and then went back to the Firefox 2.0 version, the 3.6 version you now have is using your old bookmarks file from when you previously had a Firefox 3.0+ version in use.
    3. Firefox doesn't use the IE Favorites folder for storing bookmarks. Firefox bookmarks are stored in the Profile folder, in the file format appropriate to the version of Firefox being used. Firefox 2.0.0.x and earlier versions, it was the '''bookmarks.html''' file and in Firefox 3.0 and newer version, it is the '''places.sqlite''' file.
    4. What do you want to do as far as bookmarks go? <br />
    Import your IE Favorites into Firefox 3.6? <br />
    Or, restore the bookmarks that you were recently using in Firefox 2.0?

  • Just updated to Firefox 3.6.9, I'm building a site and the Dreamweaver CS3 Preview feature no longer works in previewing my pages. Any fixes available?

    Just updated to Firefox 3.6.9 this morning. I'm building a site using Dreamweaver CS3 for a class and the Preview feature was working fine before the update. I can preview my pages in other browsers successfully, but now if I choose Firefox, no window opens.
    I have a Macbook Pro, OS X.

    Sorry, Mozilla did a security fix that broke Dreamweaver with Firefox. Virtually no other programs were broken with that fix, and considering the age of Dreamweaver (~5 years since it was last updated) they decided not to back-out that security fix for one old, elderly program. This problem was discussed at length back in January and February after Firefox 3.6 was first released.

  • Just updated to Firefox 8, can only connect 1 User at a time, how can I fix this so both users can connect to Firefox at the same time??

    I have just upgraded to Firefox 8. I have 2 user accounts on my computer. Since the upgrade, only 1 user can access Firefox at a time. I am able to use IE on 1 and Firefox on the other. I have to close Firefox on 1 user before I can open it on the 2nd.

    I also have gone back to V 7, which fixed the issue. I have stopped the automatic updates so the issue doesn't hapen again.

  • I just updated to Firefox 4.0 and how do I change the Add-ons window from opening in a tab (I prefer the old window style)?

    After updating to Firefox 4.0, I am unable to get the Add-ons tab (ctrl-shift-A) to open in a separate window like it did in 3.6. Where may I find the option/plugin/addon to be able to do this?

    Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • Mozilla just updated to Firefox 4 and disabled my F5 access. I can no longer work from home!

    I'm trying to connect to my work network from home, but Firefox automatically updated to Firefox 4 on my home computer and disabled my F5 software which was what I was using to remotely login to my work computer. F5 Networks VPN client is standard stuff issued by my Federal Government job to allow me to work from home.

    Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

    For an unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:

  • After one more Windows update Firefox became VERY heavy - worse than IE (search has no paging any more - just 1 gigantic list of things, etc). Any solutions?

    My notebook is 5 years old, but works good and I dont want to change it now. Yet, the more Window updates I do the HEAVIER is the work with web browsers.
    I gave up on IE and switched to Firefox because it was much lighter for a long time. But since a few days ago even simple image search with Firefox gets up to 200 000 kb of my CPU (just like IE used to do) compared with 100 000kb with the very same Firefox just a couple of months before. And so, Firefox now slows my computer enormously.
    Is there any way lighter versions of Firefox or some way firefox can recognize older computers that can't tackle so much of weight? Or perphaps uninstalling some plug-ins will help?
    Example - things like searching for Video or Images, which, since recently, bring pageless results, where you scroll down forever, slows my computer a lot....
    ps. I really don't believe it is a virus.

    Tsiqa,
    Try FF4 it's miles qucker the 3.6.*. I loaded FF4 because 3.6.13 was so slow. Also try removing it and re-installing (3.6.13). There are still some sites that won't fully work with FF4, that's why I'm still running both.

  • Just updated to Firefox 29.01 it doesn't work at all. When i open it no sites will load it just shows the busy circle going around forever. It is unusable.

    Firefox 28 was working fine, but when I was asked by a pop up upon opening firefox to update to 29.01 i found there were lots of security issues for 28 so i manually updated to 29.01 by going to "about, check for updates,etc." Once it downloaded 29.01, and told me to restart, I restarted firefox. When I opened it, I found it is unusable. It won't open a single website. It won't load my homepage. It has all my favorites from before on the favorites toolbar, but I can't go to anything. I closed it and tried to run cc cleaner as I always do, but I keep getting the message "firefox is taking too long to close would you like to force a shutdown" but the forced shut down doesn't close it either. I opened task manager to try and shut it from there, but firefox isn't showing up. I have no idea what to do. I am typing all this from Chrome b/c I cannot use the latest version of firefox.I've never had this happen before. I also ran it in safe mode and the same thing happened. Please help, and please answer in layman's terms, because I am not a computer expert. I took a couple screen shots I will attach. Actually i don't see anywhere to attach an image so I can't. I also don't understand the green "automatically add" button that is underneath this box on the mozilla support page. Also, when I went to the help, about page in the top corner of firefox just now to check the version it says "firefox is being updated by another instance." What the heck does that mean? Never seen that ever. Appreciate any help.

    From the Firefox help files;<BR><BR>
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

  • I just updated to Firefox 6.0.2 and it is still freezing intermitantly. It lasts for 30-60 seconds. Before the update it froze intermitantly for more than 60 seconds. Help me unfreeze firefox!

    Firefox will crash and say NOT RESPONDING at random. This happened when I updated to 6. I don't want to have to break into my system to make it work when Firefox 5 and under worked fine.

    The freezing just happened again, only it was shorter this time only around 10 seconds, might be something to do with flash?
