Just Upgraded to iTunes 8.2 - it Duplicated ALL my songs

After upgrading to iTunes 8.2, it Duplicated my ENTIRE library, so now I have an extra 6700 songs. Can someone help me remove all of the duplicates? I noticed that there were some programs out there, but I don't know which ones work and which may hurt my PC. Any help would be great.

Did the duplication happen just today or recently? Right click at the top of any column in your library and from the list choose Date Added. Click at the top of the column and sort it to bring the latest dates to the top. If for example it happened today all your duplicates should have today's date. Select all the tracks with today's date and delete them.
You could also have a look at Teridon's iTunes Scripts, Robert has a script in there for dealing with duplicates which might be of some help: Teridon's iTunes for Windows Scripts
Just note: The duplicate eliminator in Robert's scripts package only works for these two kinds of duplicates:
1) Multiple copies of the exact same file (e.g. "Song.mp3" and "Song 1.mp3", where "Song 1.mp3" is simply a copy of Song.mp3
2) Multiple entries in the iTunes Library for the exact same file.
The script does nothing for duplicates that are the same song, but different files (e.g. encoded by someone else, has different artwork or other tags, etc.)
Alternatively there are some third party programs out there, like "Dupe Eliminator" that might help in more complicated cases. If you do a quick web search I'm sure you'll find more: Dupe Eliminator

  • Just upgraded to iTunes 9.1 and Airtunes no longer works

So I just upgraded to iTunes 9.1. Have external speakers hooked up through my Airport Express to play my music wirelessly over AirTunes. The Airport Express option still shows up in the dropdown in iTunes, but when I select it and try to play music, there's no sound coming from my external speakers. Internal computer speakers still work. I've already tried restarting iTunes, my iMac and AirPort. Any other ideas? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with iTunes 9 and Airtunes now. Is there a solution to this problem? It's driving me crazy!
Since a week, I've been using an iMac, with external speakers connected to my two Airport Expresses. Airtunes used to work fine on my recently deceased Windows PC+iTunes 8, until I bought my iMac which came with iTunes 9. Tried downgrading to iTunes 8, but doesn't work, because then iTunes won't accept my iPod Touch anymore (only with iTunes 9).
Another weird thing is that iTunes 9 seems to mess up my playlists when syncing with my iPod Touch. Selected playlists won't appear in my iPod Touch, while other playlists do appear in my iPod Touch, but empty. It's now solved by adding some extra (irrelevant in my opinion) rules to the playlists, but it's madness that one has to go through all these efforts just to correctly sync your playlists. What happened to user-friendliness?
Anyway, if anyone has a solution to the iTunes9/Airtunes problem, please let me know!

So, I have managed to fix the problem.
I found that the upgrade had replaced my library files with empty ones.
So I restored the backup I made of them before the upgrade and
now all my media is back.
    Great..
For those who run across this therad and haven't taken the effort to make a backup here is another approach that should work.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • I just upgraded to itunes 7.3 runs fine for 5 seconds then locks up

Hello, I am terribly sorry for botheriing you, but I have a problem. I just upgraded to itunes 7.3 and now it runs for 1 second and then locks up completely. Any idea what could be causing this?
    Gateway PC   Windows XP

This happened to me a couple of months ago. The way I solved it was by recreating my iTunes library (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313).
See if that helps you out.

  • TS1363 Just upgraded to iTunes 11.1.4.62 now my device (iPhone5) won't sync but shows up under Windows Explorer.

Just upgraded to iTunes 11.1.4.62 now my device (iPhone5) won't sync but shows up under Windows Explorer. When I plug the phone in it asks if I want to trust the computer. I say yes but it hasn't asked me that since the very first time I received the phone.

    This resolved my issue.
Thank you for the suggestion. This worked for me. No more trust this computer messages and itunes now recognizes my ios7 iphone.
Reinstalling the usb driver in win7 by going to device mgr/ portable devices and then directing the computer to search the apple folder ...
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. did the trick.

  • Just upgraded latest Itunes version & it doesn"t Sync

Just upgraded latest Itunes version & it doesn"t Sync  I tried reinstalling Itunes with the virus checker off. Also, I used cables instead of wifi but my ipad & Iphone still don't sync.  Any ideas  Thank You

    Hi am33m,
Sounds like iTunes Match hasn't sync'd the songs properly. Am I correct that on iOS devices the songs appear greyed out? I've had this problem as well recently. You could try going back to the computer you added the songs on, selecting them from your iTunes library and deleting them but telling iTunes to keep the files.
I did have some luck following the steps at https://discussions.apple.com/message/18597236#18597236 however that was short lived and stopped being effective shortly after. You may have more success.
    1. List all your songs in your library and right-click the column headers to show iCloud Status
    2. Sort by this column and look for all of the tracks at Waiting Status
    3. Select all of the tracks at Waiting Status, right click and delete them, click Delete Items on the first prompt as shown below (This won't delete your music from your computer):
    4. IMPORTANT: At the second prompt that appears after you click Delete Items select Keep Files
    5. Select Add to Library from the File menu and navigate to your iTunes folder in the Music under your Home folder.
Leave iTunes to rebuild your library (it might take a while if you have a lot of tracks that were at waiting status). Once it is complete, update iTunes Match once it's finished and it should upload the tracks
Following that process should rebuild the song information for those tracks in your iTunes library and may help iTunes Match sync up properly. If it doesn't let me know as there are some people including myself that haven't had much luck lately getting past this issue.

when i tried to open iTunes the license agreement came up and then disappeared in like two seconds.
are you getting no error messages whatsoever? are you also seeing similar behavior when you try to open your QuickTime?
if so, you should check for infestation of your PC by Qoologic adware. the free trial version of Ewido has been catching and killing that for most people:

  • I just upgraded to iTunes 11.1. It "freezes"

I just upgraded to iTunes 11.1.0. When I try to get my new podcasts, it does not give me the option of "updating podcast" as it used to in the previous version. Then iTunes "freezes".

Same thing was happening to me.  Crashed yesterday 5 times in about 4 hrs for no known reason.  What "seems" to have worked was turning off iTunes Match and then turning it back on???  Zero crashes so far today (since I did it in fact).  Not sure if it'll work for others here (assuming you even have iTunes Match) but I thought I'd share anyway.

  • I upgraded to iTunes 11 and I got all of the songs on my families' other computers. How can I stop this from happening?

I upgraded to iTunes 11 and I got all of the songs on my families' other computers. We all share the same AppleID, that's why this happened in the first place; but, I do not want their songs on my computer, how can I disable this without deleting the songs forever or making a new AppleID?

I did not upgrade to the newest version of Itunes on my PC.  I just now went to my Library were Music is listed. Under that is Movies, TV Shows, ItunesU, etc.  When I opened my music list, each song was in numerical order.   If I have the songs listed alphabetically, they are in numerical order.  If I change my listing to album or whatever, the first song is listed in numerical order just as I showed in my original question.  They are also numbered on my Playlists.  I have my favorites in two different playlists.  One of them was minus a song.  I was able to see which one was missing because they were in numerical order.  I know I could have just copied to correct one into the incorrect one and just skipped the duplicates, but I chose to do it this way.
So, the songs are listed numerically in my music folder under Library on my older version of Itunes.  But, on my newer version, they are not listed numerically under music.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong?????
Thanks so much for your help.  I wish they would just leave things alone.  I would gladly go back to the older version on my other computer, but????
    Again thanks.
    Marie
