You may not have the iPod's Music tab set up in iTunes, which is how you tell iTunes how to automatically sync your iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes. There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary). Click on Music there.
To use automatic syncing, the checkbox for Sync Music is checked. Below that, you can choose to sync Entire music library, if it fits. Otherwise, you can choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres.
With the latter choice, you can create a selection of songs to sync to the iPod by selecting (checkmarking) playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres on the Music tab. For example, you can make a playlist in iTunes with all the songs you want on the iPod. That new album needs to be on that playlist, if you want those songs synced to the iPod. On the Music tab, checkmark that playlist.
When you Apply the change, your selection of songs sync to the iPod (replacing its existing content). Going forward, any changes in the iTunes Music library that are related to your selection of songs on the Music tab sync automatically to the iPod when you connect it, or when you click Sync.
Therefore, if you create a playlist with songs you want on the iPod, and select it on the iPod's Music tab, you can simply update that playlist in iTunes (add and remove songs), and those changes sync to the iPod automatically at the next opportunity. -

I just upgraded to itunes 64 bit 12.1.1.4 on Windows 8.1 and it does not recognize my devices
ITunes was working fine but it kept prompting me to upgrade which I did. After the upgrade it took a very long time to identify my iPod classic, but it finally did and I was able to download one song I had purchased. I have 3 iPods. I then put in my second iPod and iTunes could not find it. I researched the options from Jason via his very good link but the suggestions do not work. Windows sees the iPod (all of them just fine) the cables are good, (I used them on another computer running iTunes under windows XP and they recognize the ipods with no problem. The Apple Mobile Device shows up fine under USB controller and the ipods show up under Portable devices. After much back and forth, restarting, powering off both iPod and PC, iTunes still will not recognize the old ipod, but once - it said -" It did recognize that an ipod was connected but it could not verify the identity". It asked me to dis-connect, power off and try again and if the problem persist to call tech support. I discontented and powered off and tried again and it will not see any ipod. In all of this Windows 8.1 sees the ipod just fine. I decided to uninstall the new update and go back to the old one. I uninstalled iTunes and attempted to install my original ITunes which is itunes64bit.exe dated 1/25/2015, but now the installer will not work - it goes to a screen that says "ITunes Installer Completed - Errors occurred during installation before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To complete the installation run the installer again". I have tried 4 times each time with the same message and no indication o f the error. I would like to call tech support but find it hard to pay $29 to call them about an upgrade Apple basically forced me to take that has created this problem. I am not sure what my next step should be - I have 3 ipod and 2 ipad, and right now no working iTunes. It used to work, even up to a few a hours ago but once I took that upgrade from ****, it has not worked since.
The fix was to completely remove all Apple Software following guides in previous posts.
Then download and re-install latest iTunes 64-bit, making sure to Run As Administrator.
This fixed it. Now the next thing seems to be that as I move from one device to another to close and restart iTunes between each one. Treat it gently. It seems to break easily and a lot. -

I have just created a new playlist, at the same time I have updated the ITunes software and that of my ITouch. My problem is that today I have been trying to edit the playlist and the edit playlist is greyed out please help.
I have been in preferences and checked manually edit etc and still no joy. I must be missing something.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs. -
I have just upgraded to Yosemite, and when trying to update Pages, get the message incompatible update!
If you are using track pad, please use mouse and see if your issue is resolved.
Moreover, this issue has been resolved in PSE 13. You can give it atry as well.

The document I can't get to is the spreadsheet of my passwords. Go figure. When I check the storage under "about this Mac" it says I have 150 GB of 249 GB. I have a MacBook Air. Help please. I just upgraded to Yosemite on my mac from 2010. Everything seems to work, accept Photos. When I try to open it i push the "Get started" button, then the picture with "Preparing Library" comes up. Then a message appears with the text "An unexpected error has occurred. Please quit and restart the application." I have done this several times, but nothing happens. What do I do?

iMovie wii no longer share with iDVD. I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 and now I can't get iDVD to work properly. Any thoughts? This is what comes up.....
iDVD does work with Yosemite although, as Kappy pointed out unsupported for 2 years, so try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents of IDVD'S cache folder: User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
If iDVD crashes again post the first 50 lines of the crash report. Don't post a screenshot but copy and paste the actual text.
To get a movie from iMovie to iDVD it should be exported out of iMovie as 480p and added manually to iDVD. -
Just upgraded to Yosemite, now Final Cut Pro doesn't work
Hi I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10 on a 2010 MacBook Pro, and the only major tool I use on there now doesn't work.... Final Cut Pro 10.0.9.
The icon in the tray has a line through it and when you click on it, a panel opens advising that I can't use it because I have the wrong version. It doesn't advise what I should do. How can I get Final Cut Pro working again..... urgently! I've seen a temporary fix somewhere on a forum which involves going in to applications and launching from somewhere deep in there, but not ideal. Whats the proper fix please and why would Apple allow something like this to happen without covering it? Its an apple product on an apple machine and Im a video producer and I have been let down with this...Thanks to all your lovely help, advice and support I have now found the purchases section of my App Store account and in the Purchases section is the offending NOT PIRATE! copy of FCPX and next to is a button which says INSTALL. I can only image that is the upgrade route - it doesnt say. I have now hit the install button and hopefully that will be it. Would I be correct in saying that Compressor also needs a similar upgrade or am I going to get abuse for asking that as well?

I just upgraded to Yosemite, had to upgrade my iPhoto so downloaded iPhoto 9.6. My photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this new version of iPhoto but when it started to upgrade, this prompt appeared -Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup.
Suggestions?Try download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
