  • Pioneer sata dvd-rw not recognized

I have a Pioneer sata dvd-rw not recognized problem.  I installed a new Pioneer dvd burner.  It is Sata.  It works fine, but every time I boot into Win xppro  sp3 I get the found new hardware, it lists the correct drive and has the error that it cannot be installed.  Just have to cancel that message, but yesterday I went to install a new copy of windows on another drive connected to the the pc, the windows cd booted up asked the usual questions and then started setup and message came up and said it could not continue, because there was no cd drive.  Once I quit laughing and pointing to the cd drive,   I figured I better find out if it came be fixed.  I also have a sata hard drive connected internally to the pc.  This works fine also.  If I boot to the sata drive the sata dvd burner is recognized and it is installed. Works fine.  Does anyone want to tackle this one?  I tried showing the windows cd where the  burner was and expained to it that it was inside the drive already, but it just won't listen.  The pc worked fine with the old ide drive.  Thanks in advance.

  • Installing SSD Drive - SATA 3 connection not working

Trying to install a new Samsung EVO 850 SSD Drive. The motherboard is MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine). I can get it to work on the white, dark blue, and light blue SATA connections. The yellow SATA connection (I think labeled SATA 3) does not work. It does not work when I connect it to anything in the computer. I need all four connections. Two hard drives and the DVD reader are already using the white, dark blue, and light blue SATA connections.Does anyone know how to get the yellow SATA connection (SATA 3) to work? Thanks! It's been a long night....

Thanks for the suggestion. I too had noticed the motherboard diagram. I tried and tried all three SATA connections over and over again with no progress. I tried everything I could think of. Changed wires, checked the BIOS, etc.I was just ready to give up when my wife received a call from the Microsoft store notifying her that the install of Windows 10 on her laptop was done. She put the computer tech on the phone, I described the problem and he suggested that I try what I had been contemplating - reinstalling Windows 10 all over again. So I plugged in the SSD drive, both regular hard drives and said to myself, "After this many hours, I've got nothing to lose!" Reinstalled Windows 10 from my USB flash drive and everything worked like a charm. I couldn't believe it!It appears Windows 10 reads your entire hardware configuration on the initial install through the Internet. Which takes forever!Windows 10 doesn't like changes. So those of us who like to upgrade our computers with new SSD drives, memory, etc. are going to have to re-learn how to do it. It used to be so easy! Learning Windows 10 and how it reacts to new hardware configurations certainly sucked up many hours of my time! Thanks for the on-point advice.

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

    Hi,
A DVD drive that is not working after many years not used:
most probably dust on the little laser lens.
Take the drive out and if you can reach this lens: clean it with pure alcohol on Q-Tip.
Many people throw away cd or dvd players all the time because they stopped working, and very often it can easily be fixed by cleaning this lens.
I used to have a G5, where I couldn't access that lens. It was very sensitive to dust.
I have fixed it several times with compressed air. One time I didn't have canned air, but a bikepump did the trick.
If you have another mac, I'd try to access the G4 internal disk with firewire target disk mode.
    good luck

  • Can I restore my system from install discs when DVD is not working?

Can I restore my system from install discs when DVD is not working?
There is a disc jammed in the drive and when I try to do an install in Target Firewire mode using a G5 Tower I get an error saying the software cannot be installed on this machine, before I can even select the iMac's drive. I'm using the grey software install discs that came with the iMac.
Is my only option to open up the iMac and get the jammed disc out?
    Thanks

Problem solved - I posted on the general Tiger Discussions as well.

  • [SOLVED] SATA DVD-RW not in /dev (IRQ problem?)

I have an nForce550 Gigabyte M55S-S3 motherboard, with a SATA HD and a SATA DVD.
I am able to use the HD, but somehow the DVD will not come up in /dev.
Now the HD is present as /dev/sda.
I have played around in the BIOS (as I had to disable some stuff to get sound woring), and I've found that if I disable IEE1394, than Arch will find the DVD drive as /dev/sda, but the HD will be gone (leading to a kernel panic).
Below is the - possibly - relevant part of dmesg. I don't know what the problem might be, but I suspect it's related to some IRQ thing, as enabling/disabling firewire enables/disables the DVD/HD. (Same thing happened with ide/paralell port and the sound card).
Any idea / help is welcome!
EDIT: I've just booted into a Knoppix live CD, with noapic pci=bios, and the DVD was mountable, worked just fine
The same params. did not help in Arch.

Well, after countless reboots, bios & sata cable tweaking, I made it work
I don't know what the problem was, but putting the HD on SATA II 1, DVD on SATA II 2, plus disabling paralell port in bios, the system booted fine [dvd and sound working too].
The strange thing is that Arch thinks the DVD drive is a HD, and tries to mount it at boot, but I'll live with that.

  • Satellite Pro A30: CD/DVD drive not working - How to restore OS?

I want to run the recovery discs to restore my laptop to original condition but the cd/dvd rom is not working.
Does any one have an idea how I can do this either by connecting my laptop to another pc or is there a programme on the web I can access to do this for me.
Bacically even after running CCleaner and other programmes the laptop is still running slow and struggling.

    Hi mate
Im not quite sure if the old Sat Pro A30 is able to boot from USB drive. In such case you could try to install the OS from USB flash stick.

  • Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller not working out of the box

    Dear all,
I'm using, for my tests, an old server with a supermicro X7DBN Server motherboard.
This motherboard comes with an embedded Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller.
When I try a native installation from the technical preview DVD it sees the RAID1 volume that has been created (2 disk mirror) but when I select it to proceed with the installation there is an unknown error stating that it's impossible to write to this disk.
The same installation works perfectly with 2012R2 and the out of the box driver provided bin the install media.
An update from the previously installed 2012R2 to the Windows Server Technical Preview also works without problem.
It would make sens for MS to revert to the driver version embedded in 2012R2 for Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller which is:
    Name : Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller
    Date : 10.08.2010
    Version : 8.6.2.1025
    inf section : iaStor_Inst_RAID
    Device ID : PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104

    Hi,
Thank you for the information. As you said from the behavior it seems that the build-in drivers of Windows Server Technical Preview will not work with the specific motherboard hence the RAID1 cannot work well.
    I'll log the issue down.

  • Optical DVD drive not working properly: HP notebook g61

Game disks and dvd movie disks not working consistently. Sometimes detected as empty dvd disk and asks if I want to burn to the disk. Other times does not read that there is a disk in the drive. Computer is about one month old. On one of my game disks, I have to reinsert 4 or 5 times before it will read properly. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you use the disk drive a lot. Before we panic and recommend a new drive, try a DVD lens cleaner you can pick up at any place that sells a lot of DVDs, like even WalMart. Run the cleaner disk and see if that helps.

  • DVD drive not working with win 8.1

Hi. I have HP pavilion 15-e020TU notebook. My DVD drive worked with windows 7 and windows 8. After upgrading to windows 8.1 , the DVD drive is not working. Windows device manager can find the DVD drive but shows a yellow error mark. I selected "Update driver software" and then "Search automatically for updated driver software" . Then the name changed from "Mitsumi CD drive" to "hp DVD A DU8A5SH". And still not working. I installed the firmware update from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv481en&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jum... • DVD drive not working on Satellite Pro U400-142

My DVD drive is not working. I insert a disk, can hear the drive working for some time but then nothing happens. I checked 'Device Manager' - under DVD/CD-ROM drives it shows: MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ862AS, but there is a black exclamation mark on a yellow circle next to it. I opened the 'Properties' dialogue box and under device status it says:

I'd like to try to try to solve the problem by re-installing the driver. I have checked the Toshiba website for the driver, but cannot find it.

What you can do is follow:
Remove optical disc drive from device manager and restart your notebook.
The drive should be recognized and installed properly. If the same happen again try please > http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ8101LA0000R01.htm
