K8n Diamond SLi 7100 and OCZ PC4800 RAM
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if the OCZ PC4800 DDR600 2.5-4-4-10 Dual Channel RAM works ok in this board?
I know it needs 2.85v which is achievable, but would like to know if it will work with these "picky" motherboards.
The OCZ spec says that it is tested at 2T and will work at 1T in some boards....does this include the Diamond board?
Failing that the next best would be Adata Vitesta PC4800 modules, but these need more volts and run at CAS3....and cannot get higher volts without a mod.
Any info would be great.

Most boards I've used have dual channel on the bank 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 but my board has it on bank 1&2 or 3&4. Is this the usual setup for MSI? Seems a little strange, I was going to buy ram with heat spreaders but I don't think they will fit.
they fit. i have heatspreaders on mine and had no problems. also there are many users using corsairs, which have the bulkiest heatspreader around.

Confused - whats the difference between K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum and Diamond??
MSI web page says the Diamond has:
"Silicon Image's SATA RAID supports another 2 SATA II ports. Transfer rate is up to 300MB/s."
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=638
their Platinum page doesn't list the Silicone Image raid as a feature on the Platinum.
I have K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum and it has the Silicone Image raid - I'm using it now.
Can anyone explain this?
Another question: for both boards it shows: "NV RAID (Software) - - RAID function available for ATA133 + SATA HD drives or 2 SATA HD"
How can the Raid fuction work for ATA133 drives since the cables for SATA and PATA are different? What do the mean Raid for 133?
Thanks!!!

Yep the thread is long winded and a bit bizar in places if you were not in on the original conversation.
However it does give a load of info to work with if you have a Diamond board. We discuss parts, Overclocking and various other topics of interest.
Some say we should publish that thread to put some poor slobs in colledge to sleep.

GeForce 7950 GX2 compatability with K8N DIAMOND(ms 7100, NO PLUS)
hi i would like to find out whether GeForce 7950 GX2 is compatable with K8N DIAMOND(ms 7100, NO PLUS). How well does it work with this motherboard? and also, does it work better than two 7900GTs on SLI mode? whats the recommended powersupply for it if i were to use it. thanks.
I have talked with some folks that have that combo and from what I gather there is no issues with it. I was going to grab one but they were not available so I got the 7900GTX instead. PSU though is an important decission. As far as I can tell the PSU I use and have in my siggy should be fine but I have not tested it as I did not get my card. The amps did show it should be fine so long as I did not use two of those cards in SLi.

K8N Diamond SLI Creative Sound Blaster 24-bit
I have a problem with My MSI K8N diamond SLI 's integrated Creative SB 24-bit sound.
The sound is unaffected by the speaker configuration in control panel>sounds and audio devices>advanced.
For example when playing a 6 channel sound through my stereo speakers, the center channel does not get split between front channels. This means I can hear no voices as they are only on the center channel!
Can anyone with the K8N Neo4 platinum or diamond sli confirm this or does anyone know a solution? If it is a grounding problem it would be within the PCB of the motherboard, the wiring there that either are not connected directly to ground. Or the problem that a ground plane / trace runs to close along a signal trace, causing induction of a signal to what should be a no-signal ground.
As you say, a lack of voltage could also be the problem, if the powerfeed to the chip is fed from the same source as the IDE (as it correlates with IDE activity). Any rapid drops in Voltage (voltage spikes) could result in just the phenomenon as we hear it and as I measured it. But it is less likely than a ground related problem. If there was such a load on the trace to deliver voltate to the chip and some other component, that the voltage would drop, we would see this on the motherboard. The amps would spike and we most likely would have seen a burned out trace.
So it is more likely that there is a matter if impure voltage feed to the circuit. But this is also much less probable than the ground issue. It is not uncommon to get ground issues in audio circuitry, especially in applications and environments where you have PCB traces in which high frequency signals travels close by. (a phenomenon not only contained to audio circuitry, as you probably have seen motherboards with traces run in circles, to get rid of similar problems).
I would not blame creative for this. I have had to deal with many soundcard issues in 10+ years as a computer tech. And I will leave it at that. I have much more to say about the quality of MSI products than the quality of any soundcard from any manufacturer, but that is also something that I will not rant about here.
If you do not get it to work with a stand alone sound card, I would check your PSU so that you do not have any bad or impure voltage there (measured with an oscilloscope, if you know what you should look for during load). I would also check so that the computer really are attached to a grounded outlet to reduce problems with interference. Third I would place the soundcard as far away from the GPU/s as possible (a good source for interference).
In my experience, only soundcards that has been faulty has produced similar sound issues as this motherboards onboard sound produce. Especially bad caps (do not even have to be the leaking kind) tend to induce this behaviour.
But the last part is something I have ruled out on this motherboards onboard audio. If there were bad caps there would be telltale spikes in the the measured signals and voltages. There are none (except for previously noted discreprancy in the output signal when accessing IDE).
I do not have a reciever, so I can not try the Spdif out, to see if that works as it should or not.
Also, I have not tried to remove the IDE devices and use only my SATA drives to see if that removes it problem (I guess it does, but that is a bad solution). -
K8N NEO4/SLI (7100-030)
This board's part number is different from the K8N NEO4/SLI Platnium and I do not find a link for this boards drivers on the site, although it is listed in the products section.
Are the BIOS and other updates the same for both 7100-030 and 7100-020?
Just wondering, wouldn't want the fry it right out of the box!
Anybody else have the NEO4/SLI yet?

K8N Diamond (MS-7220) and Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 RAM issues no POST
So a long time ago in a galaxy far far away I built this little beast and it rocked. Initially had some issues getting the memory into dual-channel goodness and determined the RAM was bunk and Corsair RMA'd it. Since then I've setup RAID0+1, SLI'd the video and life has been high performance gaming loveliness (hey, c'mon, all I play is CounterStrike so it works for me).
Now, not so much. Recently when powering up or rebooting, the D-bracket would stop with only #2 lit green, the rest and angry red. The trusty troubleshooters say it is bad RAM. I occasionally had luck reseating the RAM or moving it to the other slot pair, but now it just refuses to budge, at all, regarless of module combos or slots.
I am in the process of RMA'ing the memory a second time, but before I ship it off does anybody have any other suggestions for what I can try? I already tried resetting the BIOS to no avail.Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 16-August-07, 11:39:07
use 1st two DIMM slots near to CPU socket, remove power cord from the PSU then Clear CMOS again.
try to boot.
if no change test each of memory sticks individually (use 1st DIMM slot) with Memtest86
post back results.
Yeah, tried that. I usually run in slots 1/2... tried swapping modules (put 2 in 1 and 1 in 2), moving both to slots 3/4, swapping 3/4 around, tried individual sticks in 1-4 and all to no avail. Tried resetting BIOS also and still no dice. I think the memory finally gave up the ghost. -
K8N Diamond - SLI woes - I am almost ready to scrap it ALL! DESPERATE!!
OK - story, brothers pc that I built for him almost a year ago, couple of months after the build, purchased another 6600GT to fill the second slot (both MSI 6600GTs) worked a treat, SLI, boom boom, no dramas. The card was removed from the system (borrowed) a couple of months later to fit to another system as a test card, and he was without it for a couple of months and just running the one 6600GT again. Since then the card has been returned to his system, but I can't for the life of me get the freaking SLI to work again
System-
MSI K8N Diamond
Athlon 3200
MSI 6600GT x 2
2 x 512mb PC3200 PQI
1 x WD SATA II 250GB
1 x LG 4167B DVDRW
TT Soprano + 400w TT PSU
This evening I have literally tried everything I could think of, started with driver cleaner and then reinstalled the 84.21 drivers I'd had working with it originally but no go.
Then installed the 91.31 drivers in vain knowing full well the result would be no different.
Removed both the cards, flipped the SLI config card and tried each card seperately thinking maybe one of them was dicky, nope.
Put them back with card two in card one's position and vice versa.
Cleared CMOS
Format C: reinstalled XP, thinking maybe coolbits had dicked something up or there was something yuk in the registry from when I originally removed the second card but HADN'T DISABLED the SLI multi GPU feature in the Nvidia control panel before I shut down and pulled it out.
SP first boot installed all drivers Nforce, sound, network between reboots and then 84.21 again, no joy.
Desperation sets in
So I'm looking at the piddly TT 400W psu wondering if maybe the couple of months 'work' it had done between the card being removed and then refitted could have been enough to wear it down to a point where it wasn't going to play the 'SLI game' anymore, yep, really clutching at straws by now.
Unplugged it all and fitted up an Antec 480W TruePower 2.0 I had sitting brand new in box for a rainy day, but alas.
So now I sit here typing this rant, staring across at the system to my right which is idling away and smiling at me while it displays the NVidia SLI config box with Nvidias little speel about adding a second graphics card for significant improvements in rendering technology with no option to enable SLI and I'm left thinking, what the hell do I do now arrrghhhhhhhYeah I'm 100% sure this is hardware as opposed to Windows, though it would be nice to know what the PCIE VGA Link Width should be reported as for both a single card and SLI... I've never flashed the BIOS on this, irrelevant considering the SLI WAS working all peachy.
Yeah the SLI switching card has definitely been reversed and re-reversed... I know because I take my time doing it cause I've seen people bend pins in teh slot by putting it in at the wrong angle. I've also had it out and back in a couple of times since to make sure that it wasn't a seating issue.
So my SLI switch is in the right way and my bridge is sitting on top of my two cards but it still won't play ball. Although I've turned the bridge around as was suggested I can't see that would make a difference because I reckon it's the same both ways, the bridge, not the switch that is.
I really don't want to have to RMA the damned thing, bahhhhhhhhhh this will be the second (seperate) Diamond I've had to send back to my wholesaler for RMA !!! -
K8N Diamond SLI...no more than 2070MHz?
Can anyone here shed light on why my new K8N Diamond will only run with a BUS Speed of 230 MHZ with my Venice (0517) 3000+?
230x9=2070Mhz...pretty poor.
I have 2.75v VDIMM
1.45v +3.3% Vcore
3x HT (16 up 16 down)
Spread spectrum is off
Cool & quiet is off
Dynamic O/c is off
The 1GB Corasir PC4400 Dual channel TwinX memory is at 1T 1:1 (200MHz) at 2.5-4-4-8 (230 Mhz is well below it's 275Mhz rating)...all auto configured.
I am running BIOS 3.4/1.4 (Both do the the same thing)
CPU Temp is 28 to 31°C, System Temp 26 to 29°C after running for an hour or so.
Anything more than 230 MHz HTT and the machine will not even post.
I have even changed the memory for a new set from the supplier...still behaves the same!
My machine specs are in my Sig at the bottom.
All I can think of is that the BIOS revision is holding the system back.
I was hoping to run the HTT BUS at 275 to get the max bandwidth for my RAM at 1T.
Anything between 2.4 and 2.7 Ghz would have been sweet!
I was careful to buy the best components for this new machine...even waited for Venice.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Oh, and when cold booted, the machine can take 3 or 4 attempts to post, but it's fine when warm booted/reset....hence my suspicions of the BIOS.
K6dudeNot got round to re-flashing the BIOS, but used ClockGen yesterday and got a stable 9x280=2520MHz at 1T with a 3x HTT multi for 6 hours, no crashes or hang-ups....all on stock voltages for RAM CPU and NB.
CPU TEMP Max got to 33°C, case TEMP to 30°C.
The BIOS is definitely not stable in itself.
I know it's a dodgy thing to do unless you have a BIOS Savior (not available in my country), but has anyone ever tried using the DFI Lanparty BIOS in an MSI Mobo?
Mostly same accessories apart from Creative sound, just maybe? After all an Nvidia "Award" based system should be uniform in most respects shouldn't it?
I once used a Toshiba BIOS in a Compaq to get extra settings on a laptop and it worked a treat. All I lost was the ability to "see" the LAN socket, but a small price to pay I think.

MSI K8N Diamond - SLI-switchcard plastic piece broken
Hi.
I have MSI K8N Diamond that has SLI-switchcard. It is being held down with that nasty plastic piece. Now I can't make the plastic piece hold any longer. Dear Customer,
Please have the SLI Bridge set for SLI Mode enable and retest with only the 1 video card into slot #2.
If this works then it indicate the PCI-E slot is fine and the SLI Bridges are the cause.
If it did not work at all then the PCI-E slot #2 has problem which the mb needs to be serviced:

MSI P7N SLI Platinum and OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition
Hello,
I have a MSI P7N SLI Platinum nForce 750i SLI motherboard and I would like to inquire if it is fully compatible with OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition memory? Firstly, I do not seem to get the correct timings with the default settings, speed is not very good, after 5 hours of running Memtest86+ there was 30 errors. I have never had the memory crash and games seem to run fine, but the memory feels much slower than it should be. Is the memory supposed to work fine with this motherboard and I'm just imagining everything? I don't know if I'm also supposed to be worried by the errors Memtest86+ returned?
Thank you in advance for any help.Quote from: Del UK on 07-September-08, 05:44:14
If memtest returned errors, yes
Well, there does not have to be a problem with the memory just because it returned errors. There could be many other explanations why there are errors.
Quote from: Jack the Newbie on 07-September-08, 08:04:45
Jacobl, please post full system specs. Read the >>Posting Guide<< to get an idea of the details you should provide.
How many modules of what capacity do you have? What are your current RAM-related BIOS settings?
If you have more than one stick of RAM, please test each stick seperately with memtest86+ and see if the errors are caused by one of the sticks only. Otherwise there is no way to tell if there is a compatibility problem or just a faulty memory stick.
Please post a link to the OCZ product site and also a screenshot of the CPU-Z "SPD" tab.
I have this memory: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_sli_ready_edition_4gb_dual_channel.
This is the rest of the components as instructed by the forum post you linked to:
Intel E8200
MSI P7N SLI Platinum
OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition 4GB Dual Channel
Gigabyte Geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI
500GB Western Digital SATA
SATA DVD burner
Windows XP SP3
Antec 500W PSU
I usually troubleshoot components step by step - eliminating all possible reasons until I have found the solution. My first step was to post here to find out if there are any known compatibility issues with the motherboard and memory. I adjusted the memory timings with a slight overclock because the motherboard did not load the default timings by default. I will start by adjusting the BIOS settings, check if the memory is inserted into the right DIMM slots and then test the memory sticks one by one. But to answer my own question: I think the motherboard and memory should have no compatibility issues and it must be something else.
Quote from: Freestate on 07-September-08, 23:06:36
I have the OCZ 6400 Fatal1ty modules 2x2 GB that is very similar of the ones you ask.And they are running perfectly but i must set the epp latency and voltaje values in BIOS! The simple modules of ocz are in the memory compatibilty list i thought that the SLI and Falal1ty modules are just the same with a little boost.
I had to set the right timings also. As far as I know, the SLI and Fatal1ty modules are probably the same, just with a little boost. I think it would be very strange if a module with the name "SLI-Ready Edition" and a Nforce 750i motherboard would not be compatible together.
Anyway, any other advice on what steps I should take? I assume by now that the motherboard and memory should work together without problem. Sorry if I started out bad by not following the posting guidelines on the forum. -

New K8N Diamond SLI or ?Plus
Hi,
Need you help here with a question ...
I am looking to buy a K8N Diamond and want to mount it in a Lian-Li PC-V1000 which means the MOBO has to be inverted (upside down) will this affect my cooling pipe??? Am I able to use it in that configuration?
Also anyone have any 'drawbacks' about this MOBO ?
Thanks in advance ... JimThat's a head-scratcher
I would think that turning it upside down would cause the cooling medium (whatever's in that pipe) to flow AWAY from that heatsink. Since the whole thing's based on the principle of heated material rising because it becomes less dense...
But you're right in questioning it though. Wonder how many haven't bothered to think about that one.
Actually the company (ASUS too - they use a simliar design on their 2x16 mobo) hasn't even thought that through - if that's indeed that way it works, they ought to warn people not to invert the mobo!
BTW, jimbob - add "Plus" onto Diamond in the subject. The "old" Diamond isn't made that way... -
K8N Diamond SLI with FX-55 (San Diego) and 2 sets dual-channel RAM @ 400MHz ?

ap1978,
It comes down to how well the Memory Controller on your CPU can handle 4 sticks of RAM.
Btw, could you tell us what you will be running that needs 4Gb of RAM?
