K8N Neo 4 Platnium SLI mobo issues **DEAD**

My first K8N Neo 4 Platnium SLI mobo got RMA'ed due to the fan on the nvidia chip stopping. This replaced board is now getting RMA'ed as it just fried on me. No idea what is gone on it, but I had a local shop diagnose that it was the mobo.
So is anyone else having issues with the K8N Neo 4 Platnium SLI mobo? I've asked MSI RMA dept to replace it with a Diamond Plus mobo as the K8N Neo 4 Platnium SLI mobo is oviously crap.
Do they still make the K8N Neo 4 Platnium SLI mobo or is it now discontinued?

OK, I'm starting to understand this dual rail thingy.
Bass, did you mean THIS or THIS Powerstream?
Also, since I have your attention, what about this Enermax
I ask as it is cheaper.
Those OCZs are the same, just a different color.....
Look at the spec's for the 520W, 33A @ 12V.
As for that Enermax, it's one of those Dual-rails ones....I would not go there.
The Enermax EG651-VE is way better, but beware, it doesn't have the SLI videocard connectors, so you may need special inbetween-cables.
If you planning to build an SLI system, better go for the OCZ Powerstream 520W, the blue one, as that one has the SLI connectors.
Other then that, they are both the same

    not heard of that one.
    But it's easily sorted :-
    Bios - Onboard Devices
    OnBoard Sil3132 RAID
This setting controls the onboard Sil3132 RAID chip. Setting options: [Enabled],
    [Disabled].
    OnBoard Sil3132 Mode
This setting allows you to select either SATA and RAID mode for the onboard
Sil3132 RAID chip. Setting options: [SATA], [RAID].
just set OnBoard Sil3132 RAID to disabled.

MSI K8N NEO 4 PLAT SLI

i was wondering woud i need to update the bios 1st or will the stock bios that comes with the motherboard will work with the venice. I am getting all these parts from Zip Zoom Fly, accept the PSU. Thanks for your help.

Only BIOS 1.4 and above support Venice & San Diego. However BIOS 1.4 has shut-down issue with RAID. It is suggested that you let your reseller help you flash BIOS to the latest version 1.5. After flashing BIOS, Loading Optimized defaults is needed of course. Good Luck!
Support new features in that cpuid yes. But that is not the same as you are not able to boot/post your system
    with an earlier bios .
I booted up a venice on a K8N Neo2 with an aged 1.3 bios (with no venice SD support) just fine .
If the bios supports 90nm cpu it will post .
    New CPUID added means :
    Shown on post (display)
    And e.g new model spesific features (like e.g SSE3 ) enabled .
Use the CPUID instruction to properly identify the processor.
    • Determine the processor type, stepping, and available features by using functions 0000_0001h
and 8000_0001h of the CPUID instruction.
    • Boot-up display - The processor name should be displayed according to the processor name string
defined in CPUID Guide for the AMD Athlon™ 64 and AMD Opteron™ Processors, order#
    25481.

  • K8N Neo 4 Platinum Sli & Athlon 64 3200

Somebody know if the mobo "K8N Neo 4 Platinum Sli" can work good with an Athlon 64 3200 (939)

    Quote from: jrb357 on 10-March-05, 11:29:32
It'll work just fine with a 3200+. Just use some quality TCCD ram. If you plan OC'n some people are having some difficulty getting over a 220fsb. It seems that the newer cpu's are more prone to this, ones with a manufaturing date of under 0451 seem to OC better.
    Aint that the truth!
IF you are planning to o/c then forget about this board for the moment, until a new bios is available......
That is the only downside to this board, otherwise its a very stable board!
I have corsair 4400 and cant get over 220 fsb with it....

Looking for feedback on K8N Neo NF4 Platinum SLI, LUV THIS BOARD

Im no pro but with your raid setup you need to stay with bios 3.0, 3.1 or 3.2.  I understand that 3.3 & 3.4 causes problems but the new 3.53 beta bios fixes the problems in 3.3 & 3.4.  See below:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=80933.120
Regarding your pcie clock, if you are using coolbits and nvidia drivers only (no MSI drivers at all), then I have used nvidia's ntune to help set the clock.  For my x1 msi 6600gt, working backwards from the bus speed optimization it equalled to 106...but I am really not good at this and you should post your question under the VGA portion of this forum for a better answer to that 1 question.
However, using MSI's DOT works well too and its automated.
Btw, the pcie setting has nothing to do with your cpu/memory overclock.

  • Problems with the Neo4 Platnium/SLI Mobo

    Hey all,
Well I just got my mobo up and running today and I have a few questions.
    1st. Why is my PCI-E only at x8 ? I have a 6600GT and I know it supports x16?!
2nd. Why every time I boot into windows, it tells me it found new ide controllers but when it tries to install it gives me errors. I try to install drivers from cd but I get the same error, I download drivers from their website but same problem. It only started happening after I installed the latest bios v3.7. I use the ide stuff for my cd rom
3rd. I read that is bad for memeory to run in 2T. When my system boots up it says something along the lines of Dual Channel 400 2T. I read that it should run in 1T but I have no idea where to change it. I have OCZ Premier Series ram (2x512)
That is all for now. Any help would be great.

  • K8N Neo USB Problem + Boot/Shutdown issues

I just bought the K8N Neo and I am having problems with it.
First problem is usb. Sometimes when I boot up my mouse and keyboard won't work. That only happens sometimes though. The bigger problem is, that usb devices (mouse and keyboard) fail randomly. Like I'd be playing a game, then I suddenly hear the sound that windows makes when you disconnect a usb device, keyboard and mouse are dead, and then 10 seconds later I hear the sound for plugging an usb device in and all is back to normal.
I've read some of the older threads where other people are having that problem too but I have not found a solution to this yet. I'm using the two usb ports that are attached to the mainboard. Also I tried to disable "allow windows to shut down this device to save power" (or whatever it says) in the hardware device manager for the usb hubs as somebody on this forum suggested. Didn't help.
Usb keyboard/mouse support is turned on in the bios and I have the newest drivers installed for everything.
My second problem is that when I start windows (XP) I would see the loading screen but it's very very dark and nothing is happening (like it's frozen). About 15 seconds later it suddenly is brighter and I see the "loading bar" moving. Also, whenever I try to restart or turn the pc off I get a similar freeze. After clicking on Start->Shutdown the mouse cursor turns into the sandclock and I can't do anything. Can't click on any icon nor the taskbar. Takes about 5 minutes for anythingto happen. That's when I get the "turn off, restart" screen. After clicking on something I'd see "please wait while windows is shutting down" for another 5 minutes to so. Any ideas as to what could be causing this behaviour?

@gamecock: How do I get the drivers for IDE back to the Microsoft version? Do I have to run the Nvidia Setup again and remove the driver or is there a different way? (btw I'm booting from the IDE drive)
Go to your device manager, then IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, and double click on the NVIDIA nForce3 250 Parallel ATA Controller (v2.6).  You can try to roll back driver and see if it puts you back to Microsoft.  If you've upgraded from 2.5 then you will only go back with an Nvidia driver again.  If so, then choose to Update Driver instead,  at Welcome etc choose No, not this time, Next, Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), Next, and then click Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install and Next.  At the Select device driver, you should have checked Show compatible hardware and several drivers should show in the Model window, at least the Nvidia and the Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller.  The standard is the Microsoft driver.  Choose the standard driver and Next.  You will have to reboot  and hopefully things will be better.  To put it back to Nvidia you only have to repeat process about but select Nvidia or run their install again.  Later....

Any ideas greatly appreciated as I don't want to rebuild my machine as it is exactly how I wanted it I feel I have checked everything but maybe someone can shed a little light.
Anyone want a spare mboard or two ?? I now have three !

Your Tagan's behavior was typical of a failing PSU... but the Turb-Cool model you mention doesn't exist at the PCP&C web site; in fact there are a total of five other 510 models, some of which have only an 8-pin CPU power connector, so it's impossible to figure which one you have.  Does your PSU have a 4- or 8-pin CPU power connector and, if the latter, how do you have it connected to the mbrd?  The only 8-pin CPU power connector I've seen could not be connected to a 4-pin socket, which your mbrd has... or does your mbrd have both 4- and 8-pin?
The only other thing I'd remark is that Vista will not run satisfactorily with your nForce3 mbrd and an ATI video card.

  • Anyone here using an Enermax Coolergiant 480watt PSU on their K8N Neo 2 Platnium?

Hello, I just got the K8N yesterday and have have some stability issues when OCing even just a little bit.
Last night the PC crashed and I could not even get some much as a tiny fan spin out of it when turning it on...even the extra fan on the Coolergiant PSU would not so much as move a peep when I turn on the PSU....I reset the Cmos and unplugged everything and rested it for about 10 min...still nothing.
I went to sleep and woke up this morning and it fired up on the second try.
The MSI core center is telling me my 12V rail is around 11.79 and I have seen it dip to about 11.60
I know I probably did not give enough information to tell but do you think there is a chance the Coolergiant 480watt PSU just cannot handle this mobo?
I can return it to Monarch computers but really I am going to lose any money I saved if I do this...I can also try calling Enermax.
Is anyone else using the Coolergiant 480 watt PSU with their K8N Neo2 Platnium motherboard?

Here is my thought. Folding @home is simular to Prime95 in pushing a machine to it's max. I have been running F@H for six months now, 24/7 and have yet to have a single glitch. Now from all reports my MB takes a tad more juice to run than does the NVidia equiped units you guys have. So you can see why I am a proponant of the big single rail jobs for max stability. My sig does not show all my toys either so while I don't have the high end power hungry vid card I do have a few things that make the balance a tad more even.
We learned early on over in the Via area that the dual rails basically suck. I have since revised my estimate of them for some machines due to what folks have reported here. However if you want to max out on toys then you may want to go the way of the single rails while they are still on the market.
This is all about the best stability you can based the rest of the system on. Think about this a bit and maybe you will see my point.
Oh ya and I agree. Core Center lies. I have said this for almost a year now. My estimate of it is based on meter readings as well. I should dig out my scope as well just to show noise factors. However CC has enough issues that I will never use or trust it again. MBM5 is fairly accurate but it is not deadly accurate either. However you do not need deadly accuracy with these utils. So long as they are in a fair ballpark you are just fine.

  • K8N Neo 4 Plat/SLI Hanging

Hey all, been a couple of months since I threw together my system, and everything has been working extremely well. This morning I rebooted my computer, and upon reboot the system hung and gave me no post. I checked my D-bracket and noticed that it was stuck on the "Detecting on board memory state." I've tried different RAM (that I know works), reseating everything except the processor, clearing CMOS, and running barebones. None of it has gotten me a post or progressed the system past that D-bracket step.
I'm sorry to have to make a new thread about it, but I'm really at a loss for what it might be. Has anyone else had a system crap out on them suddenly for no (apparent) reason? I leave the system on for about 3-4 days at a time, I'm not sure if that's pertinent or not. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Specs:
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI Rev 1.1

    Lite-On DVD-RW
    Hitachi 80GB SATA2
    WD 250GB IDE 7200
    All at default clocks

What BIOS are you using.  There are significant issues with USB in any BIOS below 3.6.  I flashed mine to 3.7 using Winflash with no problems, and now it is running sweet.    Also, that PSU you are using isn't too hot.  Before you flash the BIOS, read the threads about this issue and how to properly flash using Winflash.  And before that, try disconnecting all USB devices and disable "Boot from other devices" in the BIOS.

  • K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030) RAM Issues

I shut my computer off last night (I almost never turn it off) and when I tried to start it in the morning, all it did was start beeping (1s beep with 2-3s pause between beeps). I figured it was some sort of RAM problem, so I started fiddling with my 2 RAM sticks (512 MB each), sticking them in different slots, etc. I found that the only way I could get it to boot was with 1 stick only in the 3rd slot. Any sticks in other slots causes the same beeping issue at boot. I think it half booted (Windows didn't finish booting before it locked up) once with RAM in 1st and 3rd slots, but since then it just beeps with that combination. I'd really like to be able to use the full 1 GB of RAM that I am used to, but at this point it won't work. Anyone know what could have happened overnight and what I should do to fix it (other than buying new RAM, I'm broke at the moment)? Thanks!

I tried this and got it to flash something on the screen for a second about a failed BIOS Checksum and something about floppy drive A: I then made a floppy with the 1.7 BIOS on it and the flash utility set to run in autoexec and tried putting that in the floppy. I can tell that it starts to read to floppy right when that messge comes up, but it then immediately shuts off. Any ideas on how to make it not shut itself off and actually flash the BIOS?
    Yes....
You will need Two Floppys !
One with DOS only and one with the flash tool and the bios.
Insert DOS untill you get the A:>
Take out the first and insert the second floppy
type the flashutility.exe to get it up and type the biosversion you wnat to flash.
BTW...this info is included in the Readme when you download the bios.

  • K8N Neo Platnium not detecting PCI cards

This is my second K8N Neo 2 Platnium board.  Both of them have failed to detect the cards in the PCI slots.  I know for sure that both of the cards work in my old system since i had to switch back to my old parts when i was getting my first board RMAed. The two cards are:
Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card
    Promise 100TX ATA controller card
I've disabled the onboard audio in BIOS, but that wouldn't matter since its not detecting either card.  I've done the "search for new hardware" wizard in Windows XP Pro w/ SP2 and all updates as of Sept 26, 2005.  I've tested it both inside and outside of the case so it isn't shorting.
    I am P*ssed off.
Frankly, this is unacceptable.  Not only that, but upon inspecting the second board right out of the package, I saw that it has been ran before.  Long enough for dust to collect on some caps and on the SATA slots around the nForce chipset.  Also, there were little rings around the mounting holes from where screws have obviously been screwed in before.
Not to mention i had to call them to send my RMA out.  Website said it was ready to be shipped on 9-14-2005, I called on 9-20-2005, and it finally shipped out the following day.
I am not happy with my MSI purchase.  This coming after hearing so much good about this company.  Unless this problem is resloved I doubt I'll ever buy another one of their products again.

I had a similar problem with a 945p neo platinum board.  Anything I plug into any PCI slot didn't detect.  I solved the problem by flashing to the latest BIOS for the board.  Now everything seems to be working fine.
Maybe that might work for you?

  • What are all the extra ram timings in K8N Neo V2.0 H?

I've been having issues with setting up my memory on my MSI K8N Neo V2.0 H mobo.  I've 1gb chip of ram with a timing of 3.0-3-3-8.  Now in my ram settings there are extra setting that I have no idea how to use.  So what are these settings : Trrd, Trc, Trfc, Trwt.  And how do i set them up for my ram and where is the command timing setting at?  I have the system setup for the settings i know of 3-3-3-8 but it keeps running T1 and I need T2, and the other settings i have left alone due to not know what they are.  Any explanations would be helpful.

Well I originally had problems with board, I installed the board, install 2gb of ram, the Athlon 64 3200+, and an ATI Sapphire X1650 Radeon.  I got Window XP Pro Sp2 installed on it and began to install the msi drivers.  After installing all the drivers, the system was stable and so I started updating using MSI Live Update.  It updated all my drivers, then said there was a newer bios version available for my mobo so I downloaded it, created the flash diskette and proceeded to restart to do the flash.  Once the program started to flash it then failed.  So i had to find my bios for it, which they do not post or put in live update anyway.  I had to call MSI and have them email my original bios which happens to be 9.0 due to my board being the K8N Neo V2.0 H (MS 7030 Ver 3.0).  I reflashed the original back on with no problem and have had nothing but trouble since.  Now everytime I run Prime 95 it will run between 2-5 min then say i have a hardware problem.  It will also lock up at random as well.  I've at one point gotten the system run it for 18 min.  I don't think it sets up the ram timing correctly so i have it partially done.  I had to do it on another system that built that is identical to this system but its a Biostar, it gave similar issues until I did manual setting of the ram.  Now it is rock solid with no problems at all.  My MSI board has more ram settings than Biostar but there a few that I have no idea what to set them at.  Like for instance the following - Trrd, Trc, Trfc, Trwt, and MTRR mapping mode.  I've looked up what they are but nothing tells me how to use them to setup my ram.  This where I am stuck.  I hope this better explains the situation I am in now.
